Michael Amore has displayed his talents once again with his Custom Marvel Legends Thor figure.  As he said, this figure is “Made from the parts of several Marvel Legend figures…and has been seamlessly crafted and sculpted into one powerful looking custom figure!”  That is one aspect that I really like about Michael Amore’s customs…he has the ability to take pieces of several figures and make them into one fantastic looking figure.  Another aspect that is great about this custom is the comic shading and texturing that was done to the figure.  It actually looks like this figure was plucked from the comic in the way that it was made, making this figure very true to the art that it was made to replicate.  To check out more photos of Michael Amore’s Custom Marvel Legends Thor figure, head over to eBay!

Custom Marvel Legends Ironman 1990 Style by Michael Amore

Ironman1990 786579 iron man marvel legendsMany of the Ironman customs I see are based off of the 2008 Ironman Movie but Michael Amore chose to go the classic route with his Custom Marvel Legends Ironman done in the 1990’s body armor style. Michael is an excellent sculptor, and it shows with this Ironman. The eyes and mouth really set the tone for the figure and are just the right size and shape but if there were any variations to the facial features, that would give Ironman a very different look. The armor is nicely proportioned The figure has a nice gloss to it, as if it was real armor. The paint aps mirror the look of the comic and the yellows and reds are spot on, which also blend nicely with the articulation points in the figure. The leg articulation flows nicely from upper thigh to lower leg and the biceps into the shoulders meld nicely. This Ironman is an all around great figure and would make a very nice addition to anyone’s Ironman collection, especially for you completest’s out there you need every version ever made!

Black Knight Custom Marvel Legends Figure by Michael Amore

Tags: , , , , ,

Black Knight 702955 marvel legendsMichael Amore has two awesome customs rolled into one auction this week with his Custom Marvel Legends Black Knight and Namor, the Sub Mariner, figures. I first wrote about Michael’s Namor figure back in May and what struck me about that custom was how accurate the flesh tones were. He is continuing to add depth to his current Black Knight figure by doing what he does best, focusing on the tones and delivering an awesome custom! For example, Michael has created a very realistic looking chain mail on this figure, which is a type of armour or that consists of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. Mail armour provided a highly effective defense against the weapons of the Medieval Period. The sculpting is always semetrical and the colors compliment each other nicely.

Namor1 708974 marvel legendsNot satisfied with either ML version of Namor, Michael Amore has risen to the occasion and created a work of art with his Custom Marvel Legends Namor figure. One of the aspects about this custom that makes this unique is the custom flesh tone and the sculpting on this figure. The speedo is even hand sculpted and Michael rounds it out with a trademark N. Another great aspect of this custom is that Michael is able to capture the human element in action figure form. The way the muscles flow, especially from the neck down, makes this custom truly realistic, an aspect that is extremely difficult to capture in a figure but there are a few who can pull it off and Michael is one of them. The second photo below really shows off the superior level of detail. Let’s read more about how Michael made this figure in his own words:

“I really wanted the flesh tone to be realistic and not to rub at all when you move him…so I made my own custom flesh color and attacked his joints by: cutting, scrapping, grinding, sanding and smoothing…he is fully possable, plus he has two sets of hands…one of which holds ah custom trident I fashioned…the other has jointed fingers…and I lined his Speedo w/green felt on the inside so his legs would not rub…thus he retains ALL of his perfect paint apps!!!….His feet and head from the neck up are from the later version or Namor from the last FF line…I used putty and apoxy-scultp to make them seamless w/the rest of the figure…I also sculpted his Speedo to be comic book correct…and dry-brushed his Speedo and ankle wings to give them an awesome look!…you got yer gold gauntlets…yellow belt…gold N for ah buckle…pointy ears…who could ask for anything more huh!!!…all hand painted…mostly custom colors…gloss, semi-gloss and flat pants used!!!…this figure took forever to make…”

Custom Marvel Legends Nightwing by Michael Amore

Tags: , , ,

Nightwing3 729109 marvel legendsI had the opportunity to interview Michael Amore back in December and I was impressed by his attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship. This week, he has a Custom Marvel Legends Nightwing up for sale and I continue to be marvel (ha ha) at his customs. What I like about this custom are the paint aps as they look really smooth and have a gloss finish. The colors really compliment each other and the lines are of particular note as there are many straight lines on this custom that flow really nicely together. The figure looks like it is peering through you, an aspect very hard to pull off in a custom. All in all, Michael Amore has created another hit which I am sure will please fans.

AFC Interviews Michael Amore Customs

Michael Amore1 764665 interviewsThe talent of Michael Amore is highlighted in our fifth interview in the series. Michael’s excellent sculpting ability and passion struck me at first when I first reviewed his figure so I thought it would be great for everyone to get to know this talented customizer. You can view Michael’s work at his website as he as some awesome pieces there.

AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself
Michael Amore:
Michael Amore2 730018 interviewsI was born in 1973 and grew up in a small New England town. As a child I loved comic books and action figures. I was into Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, MEGOs and any hero based action figures I could get my hands on. In 1984 I bought my 1st Spider-Man comic book and that was it for me. I began going to my local variety store every week looking for the the latest issues. Though I did not know it at the time, I was reading reprints of the original 1960’s classic tales. I loved the characters and the art and that is when I began really drawing/writing my own stories, and customizing my own figures. At first I would add armor to my Lego figures, holsters to my G.I. Joes, rip apart my Secret War’s figures and make new characters…that kind of stuff. When I got older I got into all kinds of art and my influences included musicians and writers and all types of artists. After High School I attended art school for a few semesters but ran out of funds to finish so…after that I spent the next decade or so writing and publishing books of poetry, along with drinking, getting in trouble and breaking my own heart!

AFC: When did you start making customs?
Michael Amore: I finally got sober a few years ago and really began customizing in earnest. I’ve been at it almost two years now and have worked hard to hone my craft to the highest level! I feel that these characters helped me so much in my youth, and now as an adult, here they are again helping me overcome a pain in the ass addiction…so my work is really important to me, these characters are really important to me and I really want to recreate them to the best of my ability…the way I would like to see them done!

AFC: How many customs do you work on at one time?
Michael Amore: I like to have 4 or 5 figures going at a time…this allows me to jump from one to another while I’m painting and drilling and sanding and grinding and sculpting…that way I don’t over work any one figure. Right now due to a lot of special orders and some unfinished projects I have over a dozen that are in various stages production!

AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?
Michael Amore: Hmmm…I really love my new Nighthawk at the moment.

CustomMarvelLegendsNighthawk1 769890 interviews

AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?
Michael Amore: Marvel Legends of course!

AFC: What customs do we have to look forward to in the future?

Michael Amore: I have orders for: the Enchantress, the Molecule Man, Nightwing, Battle Armor Thor, Mocking Bird…and some personal projects that include repaints of: Angel (with new wings), two Doom figures, 5 Iron man figures, the Sentry…and an all new Black Panther and a super surprise version of the thing!

AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?
Michael Amore: Do what you like, not what you think will sell.
