LEK has a knack for making plastic shine like metal and his Custom Transformers Generations Megatron is no exception. There are some customs you can look at and instantly make a connection with and LEK's craftsmanship is stunning. Even though Megatron is mostly silver, the way that the paint is applied makes each individual part stand out. This Megatron has some serious detail and a paint app that is applied with precision. The silver and grays work really well against each other, making the paint look alive. To offset the tone of the figure, reds and oranges were used to accentuate Megatron, giving him depth and dimension. In alternate form, you get a great sense of how well this figure was painted. In addition to a killer paint app, LEK also added articulated fingers, which adds a human touch to the leader of the Decepticons. Adding an LED to the gun barrel brings this figure to the next level. Overall, this is one of the best Megatron's I have seen and I am sure Megatron appreciates a color scheme worthy of his leadership!
Growing up in the 80’s, I had most of the Transformers toys and there was always something that bothered me about the G1 Megatron! After seeing Xaviercal’s Custom Transformers IDW Megatron figure, I think I have figured it out! The 80’s Megatron is not bulky or massive enough. Xaviercal has fixed this issue with one of the best Megatron’s I have seen of late. He gave Megatron such much needed additions to bulk up his legs and shoulders. Giving him a new fusion cannon and and a tank barrel to resembler his Walther P38 appearance in robot mode cements the look! Interesting to see that he chose to go with a dark gray color scheme but it works surprisingly well! There are also very subtle aspects of the figure that you might notice. For example, instead of using a purple Decepticon symbol, he chose to go with a metallic gray symbol that almost fades into the background.
Featuring a custom head sculpt by Arte Loco customs, ThyVipera has epitomized one of the most recognizable villains in recent history with his Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Megatron figure. Standing 12" tall, this is how the leader of the Decepticons should have been made. Created from a Masterpiece Megatron MP-5 figure, ThyVipera has added tons of articulation as well as rebuilt parts to make this the best G1 Megatron I have seen in years. Although this figure does not transform, Megatron really looks better in robot mode anyway so there is not loss without the ability to change into the Walther P38 from yesteryear. The head sculpt immediately grabbed my attention as the face almost has a human quality to it. This is really an outstanding figure and kudos to to great customizers, Arte Loco and ThyVipera, working together to pull of this amazing figure.
One of the pivotal scenes in the original Transformers movie from the 1980's is when Megatron is reformed into Galvatron and Boskoes Toys has captured this moment with this Custom Transformers Reformed Megatron figure. Megatron really took a beating in the movie and the battle damage and the transformation is captured very nicely in this homage to the leader of the Decepticons. The gashes and the carbon scoring on the figure give it a multidimensional effect and combined with the translucent purple on various parts of the figure make it look like he is caught in the middle of the transformation.
I am a huge fan of original concepts and Deceptipunk has created this Custom Transformers Galvatronus figure for you to feast your eyes (and your wallet) on! Made from the Beast Hunters Shockwave and other Transformers figure, he imagines a Galvatron becoming increasingly more powerful (and cool looking) as he has acquired and unknown Energon source. This figure looks like it is a cross between colors found in Unicron, Galvatron, and Megatron with the orange, golds, and purples and the canon mode is reminiscent of both Galvatron and Megatron. Deceptipunk alludes to more characters being created from this concept in his auction page so go check out his Custom Transformers Galvatronus figure a look!
When Shinobritron calls this a hybrid figure, he is not kidding! Combing several Transformers Universes together as well as one Autobot leader is a recipe for one killer looking figure. His Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron effectively combines styles from Generation 1, the Transformers movies, as well as the latest Beast Hunters line. As Shinobitron mentions on ProCustomizers.com, this figure is also a mix of "various other parts and pieces from around my work zone/ fodder bins." The Generation 1 aspect comes out loud and clear to me in robot mode. The addition of Meg's fusion canon was a very nice touch. While using the Beast Hunter's Optimus Prime figure as the base, the Transformers Movie comes out when the figure is in vehicle mode. If you remember, Megatron was a really decrepit oil tanker truck and aspects of this are present in the grill and the smoke stacks which are inherent in the base figure. Shinobitron always takes really close up detailed photos so check out his Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron or his photo gallery to see more!
You have to admit that a large robot walking through the desert with a "disguise" over his head was a stretch but it gave Megatron a unique look for the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie. Capturing this look in stunning detail is Andy Hibb's Custom Transformers DOTM Megatron. Using ROTF Leader Prime and ROTF Leader Megatron parts as well as many scratch built parts using styrene, Andy has created a super detailed movie version and combining one his favorite scenes in the movie, he has also made a mini diorama! Here is Andy to tell you more about his creation:
"The figure can be posed in many different ways and is very articulated! I have studied many movie stills and pictures to create a very movie accurate custom which will be a perfect addition to any serious collectors collection. I have also scratch built the remains of Abraham Lincolns statue which Megatron half destroys and then sits down in which is one of my fave scenes of the film."
To take a look at more photos and to place a bid on his Custom Transformers DOTM Megatron and Lincoln dio, head over to eBay!
You have to admit, Megatron as gotten the short end of the stick in all of the Transformers movies. After being resurected from his frozen tomb, he got his Deception tail kicked and dumped in the Laurentian Abyss in the first movie, he is scrapped together with random parts in the 2nd movie, and then contracts some machine eating virus in the 3rd movie.
That said, Andy Hibbs has captured the look and feel of the Leader of the Decepticons with his Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Megatron complete with his little lackey! Andy has created an Action Masters version, meaning that the figure does not transform but what is lost in the inability to convert the figure is definitely made up in the ingenuity and creativity of the custom. Using a combination of ROTF Leader Prime and ROTF Leader Megatron parts as well as many scratch built parts using styrene, this figure is movie accurate and amazing! If you look real closely, you will see Igor, Megatron's twisted little wretch, whoIgor hung around at Megatron's Decepticon refugee camp in Africa, where he was weird and crazy, eating the occasional minerals that Megatron gathered and brought back to him and the hatchlings. No detail was left out and he even captured the detail in Megatron's head where it seemed to be disintegrating right before your eyes. Andy has also made a killer video so check it out when you click over to view his Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Megatron figure.
One of the pivotal scenes in the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movie was the epic battle in the forest between the forces of good and evil! Megatron and Optimus Prime were engaged in a fierce entanglement and Encline Designs has captured the moment where the great leader of the Autobots lost his spark with his Custom Leader Class Megatron and Optimus Prime diorama. Encline Designs is at the top of my list as one of the best customizers out there and his diorama really captures the somber mood and climax of Optimus Prime as he clings to life's last moments before he goes dark. It looks like this dio might have been a commission piece that someone is selling so lucky for you!
When I first saw Andy Hibbs' Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica, I thought I was looking at the real deal from the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie. This is a very different Transformers custom than people may be used to as the figure does not change into robot mode but the extreme amount of detail, raw material, blood, sweat, and time that was put into this 1:16 scale makes up for it. This is the best replica of the Tanker Truck I have seen to date. Spending 7 weeks working on this custom, the detail that was put into every inch of this replica really shines through when you when you look closely at the vehicle:
Andy also made a very cool video showing off his amazing Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica so go head over to eBay and check it out!
With the release of the Transformers Prime figures, customizers now have a new canvas and outlet for their creativity. This week, Zildjian focuses his efforts on creating the best Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure he could! First, the paint style and application are stunning. The carbon scroing look that he gave the figure is lightyears beyond what the toy company's can mass produce. Here is a close up look at the brush strokes that were used to create this cool effect. If you look at the before shot of the figure (on the right), you will see a very drab and boring color scheme. Contrast that with Zildjian's Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure (on the left) and you can see the world of difference. If the paint app wasn't enough to make you buy this one, he also wired the figure with purple and red LED's to give the give that extra something special.
Standing an impressive 11" tall and scratch built from the concept art from Josh Nizzi comes ForgottenForest's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron figure. this figure was designed with detail in mind with sculpted 3D rust effects, pistons that expand and contract, and lots of mechanical details that are hidden all over this design. The rust effects add a very cool effect on Megatron that mirrors his look in the movie, completing his decrepit and decomposing body he is trying so desperately to save. The pistons add realism and the addition of moving parts to a figure is always a plus. A special secret lies within his gun and to tell you more about this effect is ForgottenForrest himself:
I love the G1 effect as it is like and Easter Egg that only you (and the readers of this blog) will know! To view more photos of ForgottenForest's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron figure, head over to eBay!
What do you get when you cross a ROTF Optimus Prime, ROTF Megatron, TFTM Megatron, ROTF Human Alliance Sideswipe, numerous Zoid parts, and several McFarlane Cyber unit figures? You get the first Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron that stands 12 inches tall and looks like it was right from the movie! This is a great example of art imitating life where the Megatron in the movie was remade with a conglomerate of parts. Due to the nature of this figure, it does not Transform but that is a small price to pay when you have a highly detailed scratch built Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron to feast your eyes on. The detail in this figure is something to behold. Zildjian has brought out the rough, ruthless, and raw side of Megatron communicated through this amazing figure. The way the head was crafted gives the figure that battle damaged look from the movie that made Megatron a force to reckon with. To view more photos of Z's Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron, head over to eBay!
Megatron is rearing his ugly head again as the Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon movie looms in the distance. As the toys slowly make their way to toy shelves and fans clamor to be the first to own the new designs, customizers have already worked their magic! By turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, Zildjian brings us his Custom Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon Megatron! From the photos below, you can clearly see that Zildjian's custom brings the figure more in line with the Movie Version as it will appear on screen. Taking the figure to the next level, he has created a real cloth tarp, bringing more of the realism out in the figure in vehicle mode. It is this attention to detail that makes figure like Zildjian's a cut above the rest. I am a fan of soft goods mixed with plastic as it adds a different dimension to the figure. The paint apps give Megatron that grimy and weathered look that can only be achieved by talented people like Zildjian.
Zildjian has possibly created the coolest Transformers/GI Joe Crossover figure with his almost two feet tall Custom Transformers GI Joe Megatron figure/vehicle. Using the concept art of Don Figueroa as a blueprint for this amazing piece, Zildjian has outdone himself as this Megatron was completely scratch built from the ground up. Using joints from a Cybertron Metroplex, and Energon Omega Supreme, as well as potions from Energon Omega Supreme, he was able to craft a figure that not only looks awesome but can function as a vehicle for Destro and his troops.
The remaining 80% of this figure was custom built using styrene plastic, industrial grade plastic fusion adhesives, custom built joints, and numerous screws. With a figure like this, it is not meant to be read but seen so here is a video of all of the special features of Zildjian's Custom Transformers GI Joe Megatron:embedded by Embedded Video
It is a great achievement when customs bring out emotions and feelings and Hotwire Customs has achieved the feeling of combat and conflict with his latest customs. When I think of war, I think of grit, grime, dirt, explosions, carbon, and soot and Hotwire Customs brings these feelings to fruition with his Custom War for Cybertron Megatron and Soundwave figures. If you can imagine a time where machines are waging war against each other, oil and sludge would be spewing everywhere with each blast or each punch that was thrown and these figures bear the marks of veterans of a Cybertronian battle. The weathering technique that was applied to these figures is some of the best I have seen, which makes them look like they are fresh from the video game. The scoring and battle effects on the figures makes each part stand out and also makes the plastic appear like metal, which is a very cool aspect to achieve. Hotwire tells me that he has War for Cybertron Autobots on the way too and if they are as great as these figures, I can't wait to see what he has in store!
I can't believe it has been over 3 years since the first live action Transformers movie hit the silver screen but we are still seeing great customs coming from that movie. Granted, the figures have improved since then but one of the worst figures in the line at the time was the 'iced' Voyager Class Megatron. Customizers had a field day with that one and MeCoolJazz has improved the look and utility of this figure with his Custom Voyager Class Transformers Movie Megatron figure. The silver and gold detailing masks the figure's powder blue and gray original factory paint scheme and the removal of the ice from Megatron's body is a significant improvement. In fact, if I looked like that, I would want to stay in an icy tomb myself but I digress! One cool feature of the Megatron is that the canon is also removable and snaps right into the vehicle when Megs wants to fly to his next battle.
Transformers War for Cybertron is a third person shooter that was released this year and Speedlees Customs has translated the leader of the Decepticons from the video game into this killer Custom War for Cybertr on Megatron figure. What is great about this figure is that the paint aps look like metal and the colors look like the video game version. Along with the paint aps looking very realistic, the colors have a weathered, battled look to them. Here is a close up shot:
Speedlees using a great technique that accentuates the lines of the figure by by weathering the main parts of the figure while using deep colored lines along the seems of the figure. This gives the figure more depth and adds to the realism. To check out more photos, head over to eBay and check out Speedlees Custom War for Cybertron Megatron figure.
Continuing the Masterpiece theme from yesterday, JAF has a kitbash that is very unique. His Custom Transformers Masterpiece Megatron Flak 88 kitbash figure crosses several generations. The robot mode is remeniscant of the G1 Megatron that we all know and love but the alternate mode many may not be familiar with. One of my favorite hobbies is also catching up on World War 2 history and the alternate mode of this figure is a Flak 88 cannon:
I love the originality of this figure! Remember in the storyline for Revenge of the Fallen, Jetfire was talking about the Decepticons being there for a long time and this figure would fit into the the 1930's and 40's era as being hidden in plane site. A great use of Megatron and incorporating some history in the figure is a big plus for me! To view more photos of Megs clashing with Prime, head over to eBay and check out JAF's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Megatron Flak 88 kitbash figure.
Crefigz is back with a kick ass version of the leader of the Decepticons with his highly detailed Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Megatron. This has to be one of the most detailed Megatrons I have seen thus far from the ROTF line. If you look at the photo above, there is scoring, many levels of paint shading and he even added molding to Megatron's head to achieve a more movie like look. Pictures do tell a thousand words so head over to eBay and view the many photos he has over on his Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Megatron page.
The Nissan Z is a sweet ride and Sabrina Ng has put her showroom shine on this Custom Transformers Alternity Megatron Binaltech figure. The paint aps on the figure brings out the detail and gives Megatron the much needed personality. The original figure looked really muted ad boring but Sabrina knows just where to place the right colors to make the figure pop. This figure is the first in a long line of Alternators coming from Sabrina so be sure to head over to eBay and check out her Custom Transformers Alternity Megatron Binaltech figure because there are more great figures to come!
It is great when customizers take figures in different directions and Dubz has done just this with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron version with rust. I always wondered how the Autobots and Decepticons can go from dirty and greasy in robot mode to showroom shine in alternate mode? This brings me to the rust version of Megatron that Dubz has made. If I was sitting at the bottom of the Ocean waiting for a gang of Decepticons to liberate me from my watery resting place, I would look in very bad shape. This version of Megatron is what he would look like if the Movie obeyed the laws of physics and chemistry. Dubz has plenty of photos over at his auction page and check out his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure.
Xaviercal is kickin' it G1 style with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron in Generation 1 color scheme. The way he painted this figure makes the parts stand out. For example, the tank treads and the gun are so muted in the original figure because everything is the same color. By adding black, red, and gold accents to the figure, it helps to bring out the classic nature of the figure and remind us of the Megatron that we grew up with. The red accents really define the sections of the figure and call attention to the arms and legs. You will also notice the absence of the toothpick arm on the original figure as he gave Megatron two new arms, which go well with the figure and make Megatron more menacing as he looked kind of pathetic with a thin arm. If you want to check out more photos, head over to eBay and see Xaviercal's Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure.
Resurrected from the depths of the Laurentian Abyss, Crefigz has an excellent version of the leader of the Decepticons with his Custom ROTF Megatron figure. I am very impressed with the way this figure has been painted. For example, he has made the metal look worn and warped, like Megatron has been sitting on the bottom of the ocean waiting for someone to rekindle his spark. There are some great additions and mods to this figure, which include a crystal added to Megatron's blaster and ball joint for his hand. Crefigz is excellent at layering on the paint to make the figure look as realistic as possible so head over to eBay and check out more photos of his Custom ROTF Megatron figure.
Megatron kind of got the shaft in the 2007 Transformers movie with getting a cube shoved in his chest and getting dumped liked yesterdays garbage in the Laurentian Abyss but Encline Designs has resurrected the leader of the Decepticons with his Custom Leader Class Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure. This figure has been enhanced, sculpted, and sanded from its original version and I have to say it is such an improvement. To read more about how he achieved this effect, let's hear it from Encline Designs himself:
"As you can tell, I put a ton of work into him fixing the arms. I there are now ratchet joints at both elbows with hands, claws, mandables..(whatever they are) on ball joints at the wrists!!!! The DEATH ARM has 3 options!!!!! You can have the regular arm, attach the gun, or remove the arm all together and snap the DEATH ARM into place. Now with an elbow. Yes, the missile still fires. I sanded down Megatron with 150 grit to give him some texture. He was airbrushed with HOUSE OF KOLOR gunmetal enamel base. I Shadowed with transparent black and highlighted with ALCAD II chrome(that is ground up aluminum). I then did some brush work to add the rust and weathering. He can still be transformed!"

What a way to kick off AFC's 600th article! I have waited for this day ever since the announcement of Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen. New movie, new toys, and awesome works of art like Butler's Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure. I can't wait to see the movie but until then I will ogle the amazing customs. Seeing prototypes and photos of the original TF2 Megatron, I was most unhappy with the paint scheme but I then remembered that customizers will soon get their hands on them so that made me smile. The paint aps on this Tf2 Megatron are very well done, smooth, and the highlights are in the right places. Butler has made this figure 1000% better! To view more photos, head over to eBay and place a bid on Butler's Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure.
I never get tired of seeing customizers pay homage to the great leader of the Decepticons and jcartwork does an excellent job with his Custom Leader Class Transformers Movie Megatron figure. The shadowing and black washing on this figure is amazing and his technique makes the plastic cast a battle scared metallic look. The gold accents are in all the right places and add another dimension to the figure. Let's take a closer look at some of the fine detailing:
Head over to eBay and check out jcartwork's Custom Leader Class Transformers Movie Megatron figure!
BoskoesToys has been on a tear creating magnificent customs from all toy lines. When I first saw this custom, I had to do a double take. If you are from the 1980's and remember Megatron's transformation into Galvatron at the hand of Unicron, you will kill for BoskoesToys Custom Galvatron Megatron Fusion figure. Catching Megatron mid transformation is the best way to characterize this figure. The translucent parts that they added to the figure adds to the feeling of Megatron being subsumed by Galvatron. Unicron's hand works, in an artistic way, to hold Galvatron and also put him on display. I give BoskoesToys major credit for creating a unique piece that captures one of the coolest parts of the Transformers Movie from the 1980's with thier Custom Galvatron Megatron Fusion figure.
"Insanely detailed realistic-movie accurate paint job" is the only way to describe Boskoestoys latest masterpiece. This Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatron ranks on the top of my list as one of the best movie versions I have seen to date. The paint aps are so accurate and applied in such a way that the figure looks like metal. Check out all of the detail that went into this awesome Megatron:
"Next the Blue LED eyes- the biggest problem with movie Megs is that his eyes didn't light up. We fixed the problem by installing a tiny blue LED system in his head. The whole light system is contained in the head and works on a push putton. Push it once and it goes on a pulse. push it again and it stobes, push it a third time and give Megatron a steady glowing blue gaze- finally push it a forth time to turn it off. The LED system runs on 4 small watch bateries, and they are replaceable infact we'll include a spare set. The head mod doesn't change up any of Megatrons transformation, and aestheticallty is very discret. Claw fix- We fixed it so it shoots out when you push the button. Fushion Cannon Fix- Removed the spring so you can just flip it open and it stays that way until you fold it back in. Fairy wings- We didn't remove them 'cause we like'em. If you win this custom but want them removed they're as good as gone."
I would highly suggest that you head over to eBay to check out all of the great pictures of Boskoestoys' Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatron figure.
Crefigz, in another one of his signature shading jobs, has created a Megatron that will make fans drool over. This Custom Transformers 2008 Movie Megatronhas to make the execs over at Hasbro cringe when they see great work like this and it is a shame that they can't make toys as good this but then again, customizing is an art form so I would not want them to make figures this good. I still love a good Megatron and this is one of the best. For more photos and to own this awesome piece, head over to eBay and place a bid for Crefigz's Custom Transformers 2008 Movie Megatron or check out the other Custom Transformers while you are there.
I have not come across many unique custom Transformers but when I do it is a really nice change. AshKan has given the leader of the Decepticons a fresh look with his Custom Transformers Megatron figure. This one of a kind Megatron is a nice change to the repaints and there are several aspects of this figure that make this one to add to your custom collection. First, the overall concept scores high marks in my opinion. I can imagine that this is one of Megatron's incarnations when he was waging on Cybertron. As evidenced by Optimus Prime's decapitated head, it looks like Megatron has prevailed. The lines on this custom give this figure a battle torn look as if this was Megatron's suit of armor. The two different styled hands pay a nice homage to the Transformers Movie Megatron but with a totally different style.
Head over to eBay and see more pictures of AshKan's Custom Transformers Megatron figure. While you are there, place a bid or read more about the artist who created this great figure.
When making customs, Jin not only goes big, he goes above and beyond to create one of a kind pieces that are made to fit in with the genera of choice. This week, Jin tackled a behemoth and the end result was his Custom Transformers Universe Style Megatron figure. He designed this figure to fit in with the Transformers Universe but I do see a hint of G1 in Megatron's eyes. The head sculpt defines this figure as Megatron and Jin has done a great job keeping Meg's classic look and feel. In Tank mode, the barrel of the canon is huge and menacing. I also see a hint of Shockwave in the canon, making it a great centerpiece of the vehicle. The grays and blacks bring out the detail in the figure and red accents are in the right places.
For your chance to own this one of a kind Megatron that you will never see anywhere else, head over to eBay and place your bid on Jin's Custom Tranformers Universe Megatron figure.
Guiltar Custom Transformers Animated Fusion of Megatron and Optimus Prime Generation 1 Figure by Jin Saotome
Adding some spice to Transformers Animated line, Jin Saotome cooks up this bizarre fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron known in the Generation 1 world as Guiltar. Oh yes, don't forget to add a pinch of ghost spark from Starscream and you get a pretty cool figure that I will guarantee will never see the light of day in the Animated line. The molds of Optimus Prime and Megatron were perfect for this creation. When I first looked at this figure, I thought Jin had made two heads for it but when I read more about it, he actually created a movable faceplate that you can operate via a level to show a more rabid look to the figure. This figure looks very well put together for being a fusion figure and one to own for the hardcore Generation 1 fans. Head over to Jin's Custom Transformers Animated Guiltar figure today for your chance to own this great piece.
More About Guiltar (source)
Guiltar, also known as the "Great-Gun Soldier", is a bizarre, vicious fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron, sent to attack both Autobot and Decepticon alike. It is ultimately a lifeless shell created by the Quintessons, animated by the "ghost" spark of Starscream. It has a massive artillery truck mode, as well as multiple gun configurations for its robot mode. Physically, it can hold its own against many of the toughest Transformers.
Chih is heating up the Transformers category with his Custom Megatron Transformers Movie figure. I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but I have seen a decrease in Transformers customs with the introduction of the Premium Series Transformers. I must say, the Premium Series is a slight improvement to the figure line but they do not hold a candle to the talent, craftsmanship, and artistic ability of the customizers out there and Chih ranks very high on my list of people that consistently create quality pieces for the fans out there.
For toy companies, it would seem like a simple task: Create a figure that comes close to their movie likeness. I guess that was what they were trying to achieve with the Premium Series line but they have to realize that they need to up the quality of the figures if they are to compete. Fans are growing tired of repaints and poor quality figures and that is where customizers fill the gap. Chih's Custom Megatron is a great example of Megatron was supposed to look. A very nice silver with bronze accents gives this figure that war torn battled look that the original toys were lacking. Chih's Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatron figure is available on eBay so head over and place your bid now!
Getting back to the basics and really honoring the G1 Style of Megatron, anemis007 has really created a nice homage to the cartoon original with this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Megatron. One thing that struck me about the Takara Masterpiece line was their blatant deviation from what fans are really looking for. Take their MP Starscream, for example, with the color scheme that many found to be distasteful. Another gripe I have heard about the Takara MP Megatron is that the quality is sub par and parts easily break. From what I have seen, anemis007 has taken quality and craftsmanship to the next level with his one of a kind Masterpiece Megatron.
"Megatron's light-pipe eyes glow red now instead of green! Cool as that sounds, there's even more to him than that. Megatron's scope has a high-powered Laser pointer installed in it [Warning, laser radiation, do not look directly into the beam people!] that projects past my block as far as I can tell. Oddly enough the laser has a secondary mode that projects some sort of bizarre UV- blacklight from it. At first I thought it was just a blue LED but I now know it's a blacklight because the clear green eyes of my bionicle figures light up neon-bright in the dark and it will charge my glow-in-the-dark shirt almost instantly. I wouldn't look directly into this beam either as I don't know the specifications of this device. There's two buttons on top that activate each mode separately and you can replace the batteries inside if you need to."
Another Transformers Movie Galvatron Custom Custom has surfaced on eBay. Staying true to the G1 Galvatron, sainte_786 has added a cannon which mounts on the arm and the colors compliment the original nicely. I like the way that the orange accents looked weathered, like they have seen fierce battles. The purple is a great shade, which pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 figure from the 1980's. The Matrix necklace is adds a nice touch to the figure. If Galvatron ever made into the Transformers Movie sequel, as a reincarnation of Megatron, saint_786's version definitely is one that Michael Bay should note. Go head over to eBay and bid on this awesome Custom Transformers Movie Galvatron!
As for Galvatron's history, here is some background on this evil Decepticon: In the year 2005, the Decepticons launched a failed attempt to capture Autobot City on Earth. In the process, Decepticons leader Megatron was gravely wounded, though not necessarily mortally. During their retreat from Earth, the Decepticons had to abandon many of their beaten warriors to cold space, whether or not they were beyond repair. Craving the leadership, Starscream also threw Megatron's body overboard. Eventually, Megatron was approached by a being of god-like power: Unicron. They talked and a bargain was arrived at. Unicron would save Megatron's life and provide him with a new body and new troops, and Megatron would destroy the Matrix of Leadership for Unicron. Deciding that a new and more powerful body would be needed, Unicron turned Megatron into Galvatron.

In Transformers the Movie, Megatron appears as a Cybertronian jet. Like all characters in the film, Megatron was heavily redesigned for purposes of realism and focus on an alien aspect of the Transformer race. He appears very bio-mechanical and after crash landing on earth and being frozen in the Arctic Circle for a couple thousand years, aadsmith has captured the carbon-scored look that is lacking from most custom Megatron Movie figures. If you think about it, the re-entry to earth would have been murder on his metal.
What I like about this custom is that the color is not a uniform silver but a blend of five different colors to achieve the just had an Allspark Cube set off in my chest look. As aadsmith stated in his listing:
"A lot of folks are going for a unified silver paint scheme on Megatron. I, instead, opted to use a broader brush for the drybrushing and used gold, bronze, red and brown for details to break up the drybrushed silver.
The bottom coat is Krylon Fusion black gloss, the drybrushed silver is Tamaya silver, the gold is Tamaya gold, the bronze is Testors' and the brown and red are Games Workshop colors. The entire thing is covered with Krylon standard dullcoat. A VERY TINY amount of flaking occurs during transformation, but it's mostly the extra black paint in the joints falling out - none of the exterior details are damaged by transformation. He has been transformed 4 times in total to test this.
The wing-folding-during-transformation gimmick still works, although the left wing does not fold out as fully as the right wing does. HOWEVER, with a gentle push, both wings will settle in to place in vehicle mode. Other than that, he transforms just like the original toy. To be honest, I'm really proud of how this guy turned out."
He should be extremely pleased with how this Megatron turned out. This figure would make a great addition to any collection (even if you already own a Custom Megatron since the coloring is quite different. You can bid on more Custom Transformers on eBay!
As an avid Transformers toy collector from the 1980's, I was highly anticipating the release of the live action blockbuster, Transformers produced by Michael Bay. Although there have been several versions of the Transformers toys over the past 20 years, it was exciting to see how the movie would transform our beloved heroes and villains into a live action movie. The first time I saw the movie, I was blown away by the level of detail and the creative flexibility that was given for the movie. After leaving the theatre, I was off to buy the toys...
Given the artistic nature and gritty look and feel of the Autobots and Decepticons in the movie, I was expecting nothing less from the toys. Boy was I wrong! I was very unimpressed by the level of detail for the Transformers Movie toys. The paint schemes were very much off and contained very little detail from the movie. Oftentimes, they were just plain inaccurate. This lack of detail gave some promising opportunity for customizers of toys and did they ever take advantage of this.
Enter the world of Transformers Movie Customs
Taking advantage of the lack luster movie toys hitting stores, customizers have taken the Transformers toys to a level only imagined by the movie. Creating detailed and accurate paint schemes from the movie, these customizers have created almost a new art form and fans are paying top dollar to have an accurate piece of the movie. Megatron, for example, was the most inaccurate figure produced to date. As you can see in the Hasbro produced toy does not match the movie version by any stretch. This has paved the way for some very talented and creative people who have capitalized on Hasbro's inability to give fans what they want by creating almost perfect replicas of the movie version.
