Xaviercal is at it again creating killer G1 customs and he has gone big this time! Paying homage to the classic Protectobots is his Custom Transformers Generations Combiner Wars G1 Defensor. Adding new feet and articulated hands, Defensor resembles the 1980's version with one small twist. You might notice a new member on the right leg. Rook is his name and Xaviercal used a SWAT vehicle and painted the figure accordingly, breaking up the classic red, white and blue color scheme. Even with adding a new figure into the mix, he still retains the look and feel of the figure by attaching the motorcycle to the SWAT vehicle in combiner mode, retaining the original design of Defensor while giving him a fresh new look.
I love when customizers take their own liberties with paint choices and colors as it makes the design uniquely their own. The individual figures look just as good in both robot and alternate modes. Xaviercal's work is top notch so don't miss out on his Defensor Custom Transformers Generations Combiner Wars G1 Figure.
Metroplex dwarfs other bots in comparison and living up to his role as the living embodiment of Autobot City is Xaviercal's Custom Transformers G1 Metroplex figure. Completely repainting in the classic G1 color scheme, Metroplex is painted and detailed in a very unique way. This figure looks like it has seen many a war and lived to tell about it with the massive amounts of scoring and grunge that is infused into him. Most of the customs I see are pristine versions of a repaint or a sculpted version of a figure that is a million times better than what you can get off the shelf but rarely to do you this level of battle damage. My favorite part of this customs is the cracked chest piece and the shattered look and feel overall. Xaviercal is one of the best in the business so check out his Custom Transformers G1 Metroplex figure before it is too late!
LEK has a knack for making plastic shine like metal and his Custom Transformers Generations Megatron is no exception. There are some customs you can look at and instantly make a connection with and LEK's craftsmanship is stunning. Even though Megatron is mostly silver, the way that the paint is applied makes each individual part stand out. This Megatron has some serious detail and a paint app that is applied with precision. The silver and grays work really well against each other, making the paint look alive. To offset the tone of the figure, reds and oranges were used to accentuate Megatron, giving him depth and dimension. In alternate form, you get a great sense of how well this figure was painted. In addition to a killer paint app, LEK also added articulated fingers, which adds a human touch to the leader of the Decepticons. Adding an LED to the gun barrel brings this figure to the next level. Overall, this is one of the best Megatron's I have seen and I am sure Megatron appreciates a color scheme worthy of his leadership!
LEK is famous for his realistic paint apps and he prides himself with delivering the best looking customs he can possibly create and his Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus Mastperiece MP-22 figure delivers! Painted in classic G1 red, white, and blue, Ultra Magnus' has a metallic and distressed look. Sinking effort into every nook and cranny he can, LEK's version of the trailer is the most detailed I have ever seen.
The trailer overall is absolutely impressive. If you look closely, you see gold accents integrated into the trailer detail, bringing a realistic look and feel to the figure that the off the shelf versions are missing. I have been following LEK's customs for quite some time now and they just keep getting better and better as the years go by! This Ultra Magnus Masterpiece MP-22 Custom Transformers Figure will not disappoint and should make a glorious addition to anyone's Custom Transformers collection. Don't miss out on this one!
Jetfire has always been my long time favorite in the Transformers Universe and D.M. has taken a Revenge of the Fallen figure and has given a G1 makeover. You will notice the classic color scheme that is very fitting for Jetfire. The aspect I really love about this figure is the distressed paint app. This is one of the most unique Jetfire figures I have seen in a long time and the Generation 1 colors brings out all of the unique detail that the off the shelf figure kept hidden.
Growing up in the 80’s, I had most of the Transformers toys and there was always something that bothered me about the G1 Megatron! After seeing Xaviercal’s Custom Transformers IDW Megatron figure, I think I have figured it out! The 80’s Megatron is not bulky or massive enough. Xaviercal has fixed this issue with one of the best Megatron’s I have seen of late. He gave Megatron such much needed additions to bulk up his legs and shoulders. Giving him a new fusion cannon and and a tank barrel to resembler his Walther P38 appearance in robot mode cements the look! Interesting to see that he chose to go with a dark gray color scheme but it works surprisingly well! There are also very subtle aspects of the figure that you might notice. For example, instead of using a purple Decepticon symbol, he chose to go with a metallic gray symbol that almost fades into the background.
Just like the 1986 Transformers movie, Vampiregirl04 has reconstructed a Combiner Wars Megatron into this Custom Galvatron figure you see before you. Using the classic Generation 1 color scheme of purple, grays, and oranges, the modifications that were done to this figure fit into the current line while retaining that old school look that started the Transformers craze. The aspects that stands out on this custom are the modifications that were done to the chest and head, which include resculpted facial features, the addition of head crests, a Revoltech joint for the neck, resculpted and modified chest/torso, and a sculpted and modified cannon. I love the emotion that is conveyed in Galvatron's face and the way that the left eye and expression was created gives it a more lifelike look. To view more photos and to place a bid, head over to eBay and check out Vampiregirl04's Custom Combiner Wars Galvatron figure!
Billmeister gave the leader of the Autobots a finish that he deserves with his Custom Transformers MP-10 Metallic Optimus Prime figure. Not happy with the stock coloring of the off the shelf version (who is really???), he gave Optimus a metallic look that more closely resembled the G1 version from the cartoon.
Just to give you an idea how amazing this paint work is, here is a close up (see above) of the cab area. He was able to create glow effects, which makes it look like the windows on his chest are actually lighting and dimming. You will also notice that the rivets on Optimus are painstakingly painted to perfection. He also gave the glow effects to his Axe but you will have to check that out on eBay!
DarkCave Customs gives us a glimpse of an alternate Autobot Universe where this soldier is a jet with his Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus jet figure. There are several aspects of this custom that caught my eye. First, the paint app and styling DarkCave used gives the figure much depth and dimension. The classic G1 Ultra Magnus blues and whites compliment the figure nicely. The grays that were used to out line the figure really make all of the parts stand out from each and it gives it a fresh from war look with all of the carbon scoring. Second, DarkCave made use of a 3D printer to make a new head for the figure, completing the look. To check out more photos, head over to eBay and take a gander at this Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus jet figure.
The Stunticon's were a world class set of riff raff Decepticons always out to cause trouble. When they terrorized the Autobots, boy did they cause mayhem. Capturing the menacing side of these 4-wheeling bad asses is LEK's Custom Transformers Menasor Combiner figure. Standing a towering 14" tall, LEK has captured the Generation 1 look and feel that we grew up with while giving the figures a mode edgier feel with the paint color choices. The individual figures, although plastic, have a metallic look to them, which makes the figure even more appealing. Paying homage to the original head sculpt by adding horns that flare out to the sides, LEK's version is a modern combiner with that old school feel. The face is well executed and the expression on Menasor's face is priceless.
With the next installment of the Transformers movie coming out in June, Billmeister Customs is getting a head start designing his version of the classic Dinobot with his Custom Transformers Age of Extinction Grimlock figure. Mixing the old with the new, this custom blends the classic G1 colors of red and yellow with the harsh metallic look of the new generation Transformers style. The entire figure has been stripped down and repainted, enhancing the contrast in the various parts of Grimlock's body. I love the yellow accents when the figure is in T-Rex mode as well as the subtle colors in robot mode. I am looking forward to seeing more Transformers Age of Extinction figure in the coming months and if Billmeister's Custom Grimlock in any indication of the quality of these figures, I can't wait!
The Platinum Edition Transformers are doing a real justice to the classic line from the 80's and Billmeister has taken one of the figures and given it a killer paint job with his Custom Transformers Grimlock that is styled after the coloring found on the box art as well as the CGI representation found in the Transfomers game. This repaint boasts bold coloring such as steel silver, silver aluminum, and, and chrome chest and neck pieces. The desired effect he was going for was a glow and he achieved that and then some!
Adding to the Masterpiece line, Colosal Customs creates a 9 inch version of one of the main Decepticons from the original Transformers Movie from 1986. This Custom Transformers Masterpiece Scourge figure captures both the classic feel of the character with an updated look. The lines on the figure are sharp and the iconic mustache and goatee are nicely done. There is a ton of articulation in the figure, even in the wings so you can pose the figure in many different ways. Comparing the figure to the original version, you will see many differences but the overall sleeker look is appealing to me and fits in with the rest of the more updated Transformers line.
With Colosal Custom's Titan Metroplex Custom Trasformers figure, it is all in the fine details. Since the 30th Anniversary Metroplex figure came out, I have been waiting for customizers to get their hands on this behemoth and some have answered the call. In addition to the simulated weathering and glow effects, there are numerous smaller details that really make this figure stand out. For example, the addition of lacquer to the labels to seal them down as well as LED eyes make this figure come alive. A lot of the nooks and crannies in the figure are detailed, which give the figure a look like no other. To view more detailed photos of this amazing figure, head over to eBay and check out Colosal Custom's Titan Metroplex Custom Trasformers figure.
Xaviercal has outdone himself this week. Not only has he created a fully transformable massive figure but he also added a sibling to the Transformers Universe with his Custom Transformers Grand Maximus G1 city. Standing taller than the Generations Metroplex at 24" (that is two feet for those who are metrically disadvantaged), Grand Maximus contains a killer paint app as well as loads of articulation. The paint app is stellar and the way it was crafted brings out the weathering detail you would expect from a humongous Autobot city. Here is more from Xaviercal himself:
Grand Maximus has being made by using a brand new Fortress Maximus, This Grand Maximus custom has being customized to include articulation for his knees, neck, shoulders , arms and new articulated hands and fingers. He stands very stable with his own two feet. Standing taller then generations Metroplex at actual 24" height, He stand taller then the new generation Metroplex (please note that Genernation Metroplex photo are only for reference only not included in this auction). Grand Maximus has being painted based off his cartoon appearance but with a modern realistic color schemes and tones and it being weather effects for the appearance to make him look huge and an massive robot.

Featuring a custom head sculpt by Arte Loco customs, ThyVipera has epitomized one of the most recognizable villains in recent history with his Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Megatron figure. Standing 12" tall, this is how the leader of the Decepticons should have been made. Created from a Masterpiece Megatron MP-5 figure, ThyVipera has added tons of articulation as well as rebuilt parts to make this the best G1 Megatron I have seen in years. Although this figure does not transform, Megatron really looks better in robot mode anyway so there is not loss without the ability to change into the Walther P38 from yesteryear. The head sculpt immediately grabbed my attention as the face almost has a human quality to it. This is really an outstanding figure and kudos to to great customizers, Arte Loco and ThyVipera, working together to pull of this amazing figure.
I am always a sucker for a meticulously detailed custom and Xaviercal continues to deliver high quality customs that simply make me drool. Take his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure, for example. Xaviercal mentioned that he gave Optimus a realistic appearance and he was not kidding! The plastic is painted to look like real metal and fine details on this figure can't be overlooked. He gave the leader of the Autobots a very gritty, automotive feel to him from head to toe. No nook and cranny was overlooked. Even went as far as applying some rub details to the tips of the feet as well as making his windshield look all grimy as if the windows had not been cleaned in a while. If you are looking for someone to lead your Autobots to battle, I would highly consider Xaviercal's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure as this ranks very high on my list of Optimus Prime figures. Don't let this one get away!
The combiners are always a site for sore eyes and I am happy that a talented customizer has tackled one of the coolest figures ever made. ForgottenForest has created this massive Custom G1 Transformers Predaking figure. Sometimes it is hit or miss whether customizers include how they created the figure but lucky for us, ForgottenForest wrote a ton so let's take a look:
"Standing at a massive 16.5 inches (42cms) tall to the top of his head and about 21 inches to the top of his gun barrels with a wing span of over 20 inches(51cms),Predaking will tower over any autobot and be the pride of your collection. One of my all time favourite transformers this custom took months to create and i have Designed him to be in scale and fit perfectly with the classics/generations/henkei figures. Built with an eye for detail ,Predaking is largely scratch built so you will not be able to find him elsewhere. His custom scratch built parts include his hands which are ball jointed at the wrist and on every finger as well as having an extra joint on every finger allowing for an incredible range of motion. Predaking also has scratchbuilt hip and thigh armour (which is moveable) as well as his wings which were designed to be very generation one acurate as well as having individually posable feathers which fan out to really catch the eye (the wings are also posable to allow for greater movement). Predaking also comes with a custom scratch built head that is unique and modelled after his generation one appearance. As an added free bonus Predaking comes with G1 acurate re creations of his arm mounted cannon weapon as well as his massive sword which is 11 inches long all by itself."
This figure brings back memories to the G1 greats of the past. The colors are spot on with the classic orange, yellow, and black color scheme that we all know and love. To check out more photos, head over to eBay check out this killer Custom G1 Transformers Predaking figure.
Xaviercal, using the Generations Metroplex, created this Custom Generation 1 Metrotitan Decepticon figure. This figure is right up my ally! I am not sure if you know but I took up Astrophotography as a hobby and this figure reminded me of that. Constructed on Saturn's moon Titan, Metrotitan is a massive Decepticon warrior, commanded by the villainous Violen Jygar to destroy the Autobots. The paint app really pops on this figure, bringing out all of the detail. The metallic look to the figure gives it a very polished look. The small details really make this figure come together. For example, the choice to place gray on the knuckles or adding red accents on the knees give this figure depth and dimension and make it very interesting. To view more photos or to place a bid on this great figure, head over to eBay to check out Xaviercal's Custom Generation 1 Metrotitan Decepticon figure.
One of the pivotal scenes in the original Transformers movie from the 1980's is when Megatron is reformed into Galvatron and Boskoes Toys has captured this moment with this Custom Transformers Reformed Megatron figure. Megatron really took a beating in the movie and the battle damage and the transformation is captured very nicely in this homage to the leader of the Decepticons. The gashes and the carbon scoring on the figure give it a multidimensional effect and combined with the translucent purple on various parts of the figure make it look like he is caught in the middle of the transformation.
Sacrificing transform-ability for a killer look and style is Kishimoto's Custom Fall of Cybertron Metroplex figure. This Metroplex is thick and as Sir Mix A Lot says, "I want 'em real thick and juicy.!" All jokes and quotes aside, I love the styling of this figure. The way the legs were designed harkens back to the G1 Autobot city from the 80's with a modern look and feel. The figure stands a towering 18" tall and is an astounding 12" wide. Now that is big and it definitely fits with the persona of Metroplex. As Kishimoto says, "The figure is made from a shell from an existing figure with the use of both corrugated cardboard and carton cardboard. Only a few parts were made from scultpy and plastic. It is very stout and pretty solid in most areas but none the less has to be treated as a collectible piece and not a toy." This figure embodies all of the aspects that made Metroplex great so check out more photos of Kishimoto's Custom Fall of Cybertron Metroplex figure over on eBay!
Sculpt-bot's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Perceptor is the focus of this weeks featured post! Let's get more detail on this amazing custom in this virtual sit down with the creator of this great piece:
AFC: What is the custom you have up for sale on eBay this week?
Sculpt-bot: It is a Masterpiece Scale Perceptor Figure.
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
Sculpt-bot: With the design similarities between G1 Soundwave, and G1 Perceptor, I thought it was a natural transition to convert MP Soundwave into MP Perceptor.
AFC: How was this figure made?
Sculpt-bot: I scavenged a lot of parts from the original G1 Perceptor figure. Mainly the "microscope" portion, but I also used a razor saw to cut off many thin panels to add to the base figure. I extended the microscope barrel slightly to add a little size (still magnifies!) This wasn't really an issue in bot mode, but it looked a little too small in his alt mode. I also heavily modified the original G1 chest piece to upsize it to fit the MP mold. The clear portion of his chest was a challenge, as no matter what I did, I couldn't build a perfectly clear "lens" for his chest. I finally settled on a fogged crystal look, that still provided some translucency, but didn't need to be perfect. I shortened his legs slightly at the knees so that he was slightly shorter than Soundwave and Prime in bot mode. I wanted his head to be a combination of the G1 figure and cartoon design, so I built a new one up using the Soundwave head as a base. This gave his head the same articulation as the base figure. I built his G1 toy weapons out of scrap parts and some styrene. He was then painted up using custom mixed acrylics and enamels to match his trademark colors.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
Sculpt-bot: I probably put about 20-25 hours into him.
Giving a much needed facelift to an Autobot Triple Changer, Xaviercal has applied his talent and gave an IDW and G1 feel to his Custom Transformers Wrecker Sandstorm figure. Giving a metallic look and feel to the figure pays homage to the Generation 1 figure with the coloring and styling. In the original Voyager Class figure, the colors are a bit bright for my tastes which mutes the details in the overall figure but Xaviercal has found a way to bring out the features and make this figure better than the original. The addition of the metallic dark silver accents are a welcome addition to the figure. To view more photos, check out Xaviercal's Custom Transformers Wrecker Sandstorm figure!
strikealpha247 brings us his Legendary Custom Masterpiece Transformers Ultra Magnus figure. Standing a towering 15" high, this figure boasts massive amounts of articulation as well as a very clean painted look to him. The coloring really brings out the classic nature of the G1 figure and pays a really nice homage to Ultra Magnus from yesteryear. I love hearing about how these figures are made so here is strikealpha247 in his own words:
"Using the Popular Classics Figure figure a new complete overhaul and turn him into the legendary Masterpiece! Ultra Magnus was carefully prepped and then airbrushed with various coats of the highest quality automotive grade paint available to bring out the realism for his main body, a truly awesome one of a kind piece perfect for any transformers Collection! Ultra Magnus is Fully transformable from truck to Robot mode, he comes with his exclusive fire power. He measures about 15 inches tall and very articulated. He has a ball joint head which come off when transforming to truck mode and ball joint hands that come off as well when transforming to truck mode. His power up fire power pack screws on to his back of his neck when in robot mode but can screw off for truck mode."
This is a fully transformable figure, which is fantastic given the size and scale of the entire figure. Typically figure of this size are more of the Action Masters type but not this Legendary Custom Masterpiece Transformers Ultra Magnus figure.
Xaviercal's Custom Optimus Prime Speaker Tower is living large! This one is a first for me as we don't see Transformers to this scale but Optimus stands a glorious 3 feet tall plus and instead of transforming into his classic G1 big rig, this leader of the Autobots was turned into a booming speaker system. You can get a great sense of the scale by comparing it to the Transformers movie Optimus in the photo. This thing is HUGE! If your wife/girlfriend or significant other has an issue with you displaying your collection in the home, just tell them that you bought a speaker for the family room and display this Custom Optimus Prime Speaker Tower loud and proud! You can check out more photos and see the LED's in action by heading over to Xaviercal's item page.
Paying homage to the last episode of the G1 Transformers cartoon, Solrac333 has created this stunning Custom Transformers Cybertron Primus Rebirth figure. This figure captures the period when peace descended on Cybertron, which shone with a healthy golden glow, distinguishing the period as the Golden Age. As you can see in the photo below, the planet mode is painted in hues of silver and gold representing the transformation. The execution on the paint app is flawless and the technique used gives the figure a very even and seamless texture. As an added bonus, Solrac333 created a video so you can see this amazing figure in action, which you can view by heading over to view his Custom Transformers Cybertron Primus Rebirth figure or you can view more detailed photos in his gallery.
Harkening back to the Transformers Headmasters cartoon comes Colosal Customs Transformers Headmasters Highbrow Custom figure. As part of an Autobot strike unit led by Fortress Maximus, it makes sense that the color scheme and styling complements the Autobot giant. Keeping with the G1 styling of the 80's, this figure, made from a mix of several figures (G1 Highbrow, Classics Jetfire, Movie Blades, and others) pays a nice homage to the cartoon figure. Headmasters are an interesting concept as they are a type of symbiotic variation on the Transformer lifeform in which a smaller being, frequently but not exclusively organic, transforms into the head of a larger robot. One aspect of this custom that makes all of the difference is the articulation in the figure. If you grew up with toys from the 80's, articulation was not their strong point so thank goodness for customizers like Colosal as he has made the figure with 360 degrees (that is a full circle for those who failed Geometry) in the waist and elbows as well as providing rotations and bends at the knees. To view more photos, head over to his gallery. Colosal Customs Transformers Headmasters Highbrow Custom is a figure you need to add to your collection!
When Shinobritron calls this a hybrid figure, he is not kidding! Combing several Transformers Universes together as well as one Autobot leader is a recipe for one killer looking figure. His Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron effectively combines styles from Generation 1, the Transformers movies, as well as the latest Beast Hunters line. As Shinobitron mentions on ProCustomizers.com, this figure is also a mix of "various other parts and pieces from around my work zone/ fodder bins." The Generation 1 aspect comes out loud and clear to me in robot mode. The addition of Meg's fusion canon was a very nice touch. While using the Beast Hunter's Optimus Prime figure as the base, the Transformers Movie comes out when the figure is in vehicle mode. If you remember, Megatron was a really decrepit oil tanker truck and aspects of this are present in the grill and the smoke stacks which are inherent in the base figure. Shinobitron always takes really close up detailed photos so check out his Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron or his photo gallery to see more!
Back in 1988, Catilla was part of the Pretenders lines. The outer Pretender Shell which contained his robot form can transform back into a yellow saber-toothed tiger with red and silver robotic armor. Armed with a large grey laser rifle that can be mounted on the top of his mechanical tiger form, this mechanical feline is ready for battle! Primos Customs has recreated and updated this beast with this Custom G1 Transformers Catilla figure. If you recall, I also featured his Pretender Prime custom, which was a similar genera of toy where a robot "pretends" to look like an organic being. I think bringing back the Pretenders was a great idea on Primos part as this is part of the Transformers line that does not get much attention. Beautifully executed, this figure retains the classic Generation 1 nature but the styling is light years beyond what the late 80's had to bring us. My favorite piece of this figure is that armor that sits atop of the feline, a great homage to the figure of yesteryear. In the original figure, the face shield was silver and I love the use of black instead on the figure makes the cat look more bad ass. You can check out super highly detailed photos over at his gallery or place a bid on his auction here!
Jbarb76, from ProCustomizers.com, created an homage to little minibots from the 80's. Back in the day, the minibots were the little Autobots that could and Jbarb78 has created one of these blast from past figures in a much grander scale with his Custom G1 Transformers Huffer Masterpiece figure. Using the classic orange and blue coloring, Jbarb has retained the Generation 1 styling we grew up with and also retained the aspects of the figure that make it uniquely Huffer. For example, in the original figure from the 80's, when Huffer transformers into robot mode, the cab of the truck flips behind the neck to reveal the head. To view the figure in scale with a Masterpiece Optimus Prime figure, check out this cool Custom G1 Transformers Huffer Masterpiece figure for more detail!
Polyhex Customs applies a killer paint app to this Custom Beast Hunters Optimus Prime figure. The old G1 and new Beast Hunters styling is present in the features of this old Autobot Leader. For example, the face on the original Beast Hunter's version has a more animated, cartoon styled face and Polyhex has brought the essence of the Generation One face shield back in his repainted version. Also, the coloring is much more accurate, displaying the classic crimson red that Optimus Prime adorns. There are subtle enhancements that make the figure truly exceptional. The repainted sword looks a million times better than the green slime color that came with the original. I get it that kids like bright colors but the type of green that the figure originally came with looks like the green slime from the old TV show Double Dare. To see more photos of Polyhex's Custom Beast Hunters Optimus Prime figure, head over to eBay!
Being second in command is a hard job. Created by Unicron, Cyclonus is a pretty intense Decepticon. Like Starscream was to Megatron, Cylonus is to Galvatron and Captain Cosmics' Customs has brought to life the Decepticon who is hell bent on destruction with his Custom G1 Transformers Cyclonus figure. The paint app is stellar on this figure! Using metallic paints, Cosmics' goes on to say, "Cyclonus has been lavishly painted from top to toe in beautiful metallic pearl t9 give this loyal and respected decepticon the physical presence he deserves, complimented with violets, reds, greys and a plethora of airbrushed metallics." The flow of purple on the figure was very well done as it is not a uniform solid color, which gives the figure a much more interesting appearance. The greys also have a similar effect, which make it look like this Custom G1 Transformers Cyclonus has just returned fresh from battle! If you are looking for a G1 Cylonus that captures the look and feel of the Transformers Cartoon Movie, then this is the one! If you want to see more detailed photos, head over to Captain Cosmics' gallery featuring his killer repaint!Find Cyclonus Figures on eBay!

There is something about nostalgia that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It could be the reminder of simpler days when you were a child with few worries or the first time you opened a G1 Transformer for the first time. I get that feeling when I look at Jbarb78's G1 Inspired Beast Hunters Smokescreen figure. He did a fantastic job with the color palette and capturing the feeling from the 1980's. The very subtle use of the Autobot stickers remind me of the Generation 1 Transformers because most of the toys you pick up today either have the symbol etched on the figure already, which takes some of the fun away from the toys of today. One slight modification is in the size of the #38, which was a good call! In the G1 figure, the 38 took up a bunch of car real estate and detracted from the figure and Jbarb78 has fixed this with his smaller foot print number for this classic character. You can head over to eBay and view Jbarb's G1 Inspired Beast Hunters Smokescreen figure or visit his gallery to see more detailed photos!
Starting with Hasbro's MP-10 version of the leader of the Autobots, ThyVipera has built upon a solid foundation and made it even better with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure. With the limited paint app from the original figure, I can see why ThyVipera decided to change up the colors to make them more deeper and richer. For example, in Hasbro's version, the blue looks more pastel and the colors make the figure looks like plastic. With ThyVipera's version, he has selected darker colors, even going as far as darkening the Autobot symbol on the figure's arms, which is a great, but subtle, addition to the overall look and feel of the figure. The inside of Optimus' trailer looks amazing as it got a first class paint app, bringing out the richness and detail of this hidden gem. An excellent job was done retaining the G1 feel while changing up the colors for this Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure!
You have probably gathered by now that I have an affinity for combiners done really well and Sculp-Bot has created his version of a Custom Transformers Piranacon combiner that will blow your mind. I don't know if you think about how much work goes into making these customs but Sculpt-bot has spent over 100 hours pouring his heart and soul into this amazing work of art. Sometimes, customizers have to sacrifice the transformability (ok I made that word up) of the figure to create these tall figures but, in this case, he sought out a team of 6 Decepticons. I love it when customizers tell the entire story of how they created this great figures and, lucky for us, Sculp-bot has provided it so here it is:
"This team is the result of 3 years of parts scrounging, modifying, and scratchbuilding, and has over 100 hours of work, and too many individual parts to name invested into it. Included is Snap Trap, Nautilator, Overbite, Skalor, Tentakil, and Seawing. All combine to form the super robot mode of Piranacon. Most of the figures in the set owe their existence to no less than four different toys (in some cases up into the double digits in donor figures) and all have an element of scratchbuilding as well. I found the original "Sea Monster" concept kind of silly, and have changed up the creatures to be a little more menacing (doing away with Tentakil's "Sigmund the Sea Monster" mode, and changing Skalor's Coelacanth monster to the far more powerful and intimidating Dunkleosteus.) I also made a conscious effort to have the bot-modes represent different body types (slim, stocky, short, tall, etc.,) because it adds a little visual interest to the set, and mirrors one of the few things I like about the recent selection of retail sets (Animated, and Prime series showcasing different bot body styles.) I also limited the color pallette to a total of 4 base colors to further unify the group, and serve a more cohesive combined mode. I also did away with the weapon modes for each, as they looked like an afterthough on Hasbro's part with the originals, and I did not want mine to suffer the same issue (3 modes were hard enough to come up with!)"
One aspect that Sculpt-bot nailed was the colors. Granted, the original color scheme of these figure from the G1 era were not that great but somehow he made these colors work on the figure. He did this by toning down the pastel look to the figure that the G1 figures had an abundance of. The really cool thing is if you head over to his auction page, you will find a link to over 100 photos he has taken of his Custom Transformers Piranacon combiner so check it out!
Grant it, I am a sucker for ginormous Transformers and Colosal Customs' Fortress Maximus fit the bill! Standing at a towering 2 feet tall, this figure is definitely worthy of the Fortress Maximus title. Colosal Customs makes some amazing figures and he has outdone himself with this one. The figure is painted to the nines and resembles comic art for the Transformers artist Dan Khanna. This figure is fully transformable with some great additions, including plethora of articulation and joints to make this figure more poseable. Looking just as good in fortress mode, Colosal's Custom Transformers Fortress Maximus figure is definitely one to add to the collection!
Primos Customs has outdone himself with his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Metroplex figure. Not only has he captured the feeling of one of the greatest large scale Transformers of all time, he made it his own. This is what customizing is all about. Using his creative freedom while retaining the Generation 1 classic we grew up with, this figure is a more slimmed down, taller version of the Autobot City. By making this figure larger, it makes the figure more intimidating and impressive! The weathering on the paint job makes the figure look like it has been in some fierce battles and with two other modes (City and Battle Station), Primos has created one of the greatest Metrplex figures I have come across. To view more photos of this amazing figure, head over eBay to check out his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Metroplex figure.
Aiming to create the most G1 accurate figure, Nemesis Customs has crafted this amazing looking Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Galvatron custom. When I first saw this custom, I thought the paint looked silky smooth, an effect that helps bring out the cartoon look and feel Nemesis was looking for. The flat finish really brings home that G1 cartoon feel. There are numerous modifications to this figure that make it top notch, including G1 hip panels, a painted Masterpiece Matrix with steel chain, and a detachable arm canon to name a few. The figure looks just as great in canon mode!
Colosal Customs is living up to his name with his Custom Masterpiece Scale Transformers G1 Metroplex figure. Staying true to the G1 look and feel of the Classic figure we loved from the 80's, this figure stands 18" tall with great articulation. I remember the G1 Metroplex being a cool figure but the joints had little movement, which basically meant that you could moves the arms up and down and the legs from front to back. As you can see in the photos, this Metroplex is ready for action with some killer poseability. Some of the features that I enhance the look of the figure are the way the dark lines were painted in the figure, which gives the figure depth. For a mostly white figure, this was critical. Sixgun and Scamper also accompany the figure so head over to eBay to view the two other alternate modes this Custom Masterpiece Scale Transformers G1 Metroplex figure transforms into!
Jetfire is one of my all time favorite Transformers to this day. In fact, I still have the G1 version sitting in my closet in the hopes that this great figure will be on display somewhere in my house some day. Taking what we know and love from the Generation 1 series and figure and fuzing it with IDW Stormbringer concept comes Darkcave Custom's Masterpiece Transformers Jetfire figure. Capturing and creating the multiple looks the character had through the years is captured in this piece. An homage to the G1 Transformers cartoon is shown above while the figure as portrayed by the toy that was produced in 1985 is shown below. While capturing all these looks, Darkcave was able to custom sculpt the head and have a helmet to accompany the figure. I have always been in pursuit of a bright white Jetfire figure but Darkcave decided to paint the figure with a ton of carbon scoring and weathering detail, which adds to the genuine feel of the character. Darkcave Custom's Masterpiece Transformers Jetfire figure is truly one of a kind so head over to eBay and check out this amazing figure.
The Insecticons were an interesting breed of Decepticon robots. These creatures, along with the Dinobots, were the first Transformers to deviate from the machines that made up the bulk of the Autobot and Decepticon characters. Taking this concept to the next level is Colosal Customs' Transformers G1 Insecticon Combiner that he dubbed, 'Pestilence.' The name is a great play on words and if you are familiar with the Bible, Pestilence symbolizes plague (contagious disease) in some interpretations of the book of Revelation. Taking Napalm, Kickback, Bombshell, Shrapnel, and Shellshock, Colosal has created a super Insecticon combiner that is 15" tall! A fantastic concept that is well executed, this combiner retains its G1 look and feel with the use of purples and yellows. This figure really looks like it could go head to head with toughest of Autobot combiners. Here is the back story on Pestilence:
"We lay in wait in the dark places, dank places. We exist to cause chaos and destruction. Our hive mind was perfectly suited for Megatrons combination process. We serve him now, but there is another. We felt his influence durring the process, we feel him now... So we will bide our time awaiting his arrival. Untill then, we are Pestilence and we are HUNGRY!!!"

Giving this giant of the an Autobot a fresh, updated look, Xaviercal has created a killer Custom Transformers Generations Omega Supreme figure. By combining the best of the Energon and G1 Omega Supreme's, the overall look is a more modern version of this gentle robot. In order to achieve the look that he wanted, transformation has been sacrificed thus turning Omega into an Action Masters version. The dark colors play very well off the yellows and oranges, giving the figure a strikingly different look than we are used to seeing. To top it off, he also sculpted the head and put a ball joint on it. I also thought it was a great idea to make the tracks blend in with the overall figure! More detailed photos can be found over on eBay so head over and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Generations Omega Supreme figure.
It is always a blast from the past when I see the G1 Transformers in a new light! JCartwork, building on experience from 2 previous Stunticon combiners, has really hit a home run with this Custom G1 Transformers Menasor combiner. The vivid colors really capture the look and feel from the 1980's version but with a very updated look. Some of the subtle aspects that I like about this custom are the silver accents on the purple feet and the LED's in the eyes, which gives the figure a Menacing look (no pun intended)! JCartwork provided a back story on this custom so let's see what was said:
"This is my 3rd combiner project Menasor ,after devastator and defensor . Accumulating from my previous experience in building a combiner ,I have really taken a mile stone ahead in getting less kibble and tighter joint done .Besides all those precious experience I have gain ,I have also accepted critics in improving my previous job and also inject new ideas in my current and future project .Stunticons are always my favourite character during my childhood days where I used to collect 1 by 1 to make them combine as menasor .Making 1 menasor alive do reminisce me to the old days .It took me a few months to get those pieces of job combine into 1 and also I have spent some very good quaity time in making those individual stunticons alive by giving them a detail paint job .I coated them with a very thin layer of lacquer paint and diffuse it lightly with some very define detailing process .Took me almost near to 2 months in getting the paint job done .Its really a painstaking proccess but after seeing the overall result ,all the hard work are paid off."
A job well done indeed! To place a bid on this killer Custom G1 Transformers Menasor combiner, head over to eBay!
Whenever I see a custom inspired from the G1 Transformers movie from 1986, the soundtrack plays on a running loop in my head. It is a blessing and curse sometimes but the words "You've got the touch...you've got the power," have a special meaning when it comes xlean007's Custom Transformers G1 Movie MP Rodimus Prime figure as it was customized in honor of the new leader of the Autobots in the colors from the movie. I love when customizers provide their inspiration for creating figures so here is xleonx007 in his own words:
"The new leader of the Autobots and star of the 1986 animated film made this character my all time favorite. So I knew I had to make my own custom the way I wanted. He had to look tough and fearless. However, Hasbro/Takara just came out with their version, although it seems to be the best rendition of Rodimus Prime to date, like Optimus it is just too cute and plain. After all, the Autobots were soldiers in a war for peace. The masterpiece figure looks like a robotic butler rather than a soldier. So I had to create my own rendition, So what I did was make a custom that didn’t move away from the original but mirrored the original at a larger scale with a lot more modern technology and better proportions. Pretty much my main goal was to create a g1 figure that was more g1 than the original, 80’s style, with 2011 technology and this is the solution I came up with. A Masterpiece Rodimus Prime."
The reds and oranges play really nicely off of each other and create that nostalgic look from the cartoon that was so awe inspiring on the big screen. Some other modification include a Diecast chest with matrix storage room in robot mode, a transforming trailer attaches and detaches with ease, and articulation overload, including head on ball joint, articulated hands, arms and legs. This is a fantastic figure that sure brings back memories! If you want to see more photos or purchase this figure, head over to eBay and check out this great Custom Transformers G1 Movie MP Rodimus Prime figure.
I have always wondered where Soundwave stored all of the cassettes that ejected from his chest! That question has plagued me ever since the 80's but I will have to let this one go because Colosal Customs has diverted my attention to his Custom G1 Transformers MP Soundwave with, as he calls them, minions! The line up includes Ravage, Ratbat, Slugfest, Laserbeak, Headstrong, and Razorclaw. With LED's in the eyes and chest compartment, this Soundwave is not only unique looking but it gives the figure a different depth and dimension. The grip that I had with the original Soundwave from the 80's was the lack of articulation but Colosal Customs has fixed that with his added telescoping waist, ball joints, and hands that rotate 360 degrees. There are a plethora of photos over at his auction page so head over to eBay and check out his Custom G1 Transformers MP Soundwave and you will also get a closer look at the gaggle of cassettes that come with this figure!
FrogDNA is the master of creating G1 Transformers customs and this week, he has Soundwave's right hand men in classic Generation 1 style. By sculpting the finest details, like Laserbeak's beak, and applying matt finish to get that cartoon feel just right, his customs always look like they are fresh from the 80's. You can almost hear Soundwave's electronic synthesized voice commanding his army of mini cassettes and FrogDNA's customs makes this a reality with his Custom G1 Transformers Frenzy, Laserbeak, and Rumble!
The minibot from the 1980's we have known to grow and love has turned into a biggiebot thanks for FrogDNA and his Custom G1 Transformers Sea Spray figure. Recreating the classic blue and gold vehicle in a grand scale, the head sculpt is brand new, which makes him look like his classic character but with a beefier body. As he explains, "I used matt enamels to get that cartoony look and several screen shots from the cartoon to match the colors and details. I added several shades of a custom blue and yellow, for a deeper look, but keeping the G1 style. All the details were handpainted, it also has several washes to bring out the details and it was finally clear coated with dullcote lacquer, for protection and a nice matt look." To view more detailed photos, head over to FrogDNA's Custom G1 Transformers Sea Spray figure.
To commemorate the space shuttle Enterprise's ride on top of a modified Boeing 747, I felt it was fitting to feature one of the coolest shuttle Transformers from 80's. Maintaining all 6 original modes (shuttle, tank, transport shuttle, lion, bird, and griffon), GetRightRobot (GRR) has created a masterpiece with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sky Lynx figure. This custom is a marvel in both design, form, and function. Adding 6 LED lights to the figure gives it an added dimension while the colors cast a magnificent array of custom mixed colors of flat white, Ferrari red, and brilliant blue. The scale is quite massive as well and putting regular sized Transformers next to Sky Lynx really highlights the difference. There is also a killer video but you will have to click over to GRR's auction page to view it so head over and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sky Lynx figure.
Using the Mighty Hercules version of the classic combiners, TB Productions has created a very cool rusted, metallic weathered Custom Transformers Devastator G1 combiner. Custom painted with different shades of green which reflect differently under different lighting, TB has captured the classic feel of Devastator with a rough and raw look. There are super detailed photos over on TB's auction page so head over there and check them out!
"Unyielding resolve has no conqueror." Sculpt-Bot, creator of one of my favorite Custom Steampunk Jetfire figure, has scratch built one of the biggest Autobots with his Custom Actionmasters G1 Omega Supreme! Taking his custom handle seriously, he has taken styrene and "sculpted" 95% of this figure into a non transformable Actionmaster. Let's read more about it from Sculpt-Bot himself:
"He has 3 independent LEDs, one for each arm, and one in the head that lights the eyes, and the turret on the back of his head. All of the LEDs have a seperate battery compartment, so they can be changed if they run out. The canopy opens to reveal his face, and rotates backwards for a more streamlined look. He stands 2 feet tall at the tip of his wings, and is extremely poseable"
Using styrene gives the artist tremendous flexibility to create accurate renditions of figures from the past and looking at the G1 cartoon and Sculpt-Bot's Omega Supreme figure, he has created a two foot tall amazing sculpture of this massive defense base in robot mode. To check out more photos and to place a bid on this amazing work of art, head over to eBay and check out Sculpt-Bot's Custom Actionmasters G1 Omega Supreme!
