Warpath Brawl Redstorm Custom Transformers Figures by Chonosmoon
Get ready for an all out tank battle with some metal to metal bashing with Chonosmoon's Custom Transformers Warpath, Brawl, and Redstorm armored trio he has up for sale this week. The paint app on these figure is superbly done to give the figures a fine depth and dimension to them. My favorite parts of these customs were the way the plastic was painted to look like real metal, a detail that can't be overlooked when customizing a Transformer. It is two Decepticons (Brawl and Redstorm) against the Autobot Warpath in this artillery soaked battle for good and evil.
It is great to learn the inspiration and back story for the figures that are created. For example, the Redstorm figure, as Chonosmoon describes,
"When I first saw Hailstorm, the mold this custom is based off, I wanted to customize it. It would take a couple months to figure out how I would go about customizing the figure. I didn't want to do realistic and make it look like the M270 Military Vehicle the mold was based on as seen to the right. So instead, I used War for Cybertron Warpath as my main source of inspiration. Considering my Redstorm's personality the color red turned out to be a fitting color in the end. Redstorm is basically completed; he just needs to have his decepticon logos put on and some better pictures taken. To make this, I used the Hunt for the Decepticons (HFTD) Hailstorm mold."

Shattered Glass Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure by SonOfNemesis
SonOfNemesis takes the leader of the Autobots to the dark side with his Custom Transformers Shattered Glass War for Cybertron Optimus Prime figure. Going the battle damaged and worn torn look, this figure feels like it was just in battle with several battle gashes and scrapes. This Optimus looks like one mean S.O.B. In addition to the roughed up metal, the figure was also painted with glow effects to represent an Energon flow, which makes it look like the lifeblood of his power is flowing through his veins (well, I guess they would be tubes, hoses, etc.). If you flip the figure around, you will see a very cool glowing Autobot symbol that is nontraditional but it works well. Typically the Autobot symbols are the regular ones you would find on figures but just done in purple like the Decepticon logo but SonOfNemesis is exercising his right to be creative and doing it differently, which I applaud. This figure is fully transformable so if you want to view more photos of SonOfNemesis' Custom Transformers Shattered Glass War for Cybertron Optimus Prime figure, head over to eBay.
Highbrow Custom Headmasters Transformers Figure by Colosal Customs
Harkening back to the Transformers Headmasters cartoon comes Colosal Customs Transformers Headmasters Highbrow Custom figure. As part of an Autobot strike unit led by Fortress Maximus, it makes sense that the color scheme and styling complements the Autobot giant. Keeping with the G1 styling of the 80's, this figure, made from a mix of several figures (G1 Highbrow, Classics Jetfire, Movie Blades, and others) pays a nice homage to the cartoon figure. Headmasters are an interesting concept as they are a type of symbiotic variation on the Transformer lifeform in which a smaller being, frequently but not exclusively organic, transforms into the head of a larger robot. One aspect of this custom that makes all of the difference is the articulation in the figure. If you grew up with toys from the 80's, articulation was not their strong point so thank goodness for customizers like Colosal as he has made the figure with 360 degrees (that is a full circle for those who failed Geometry) in the waist and elbows as well as providing rotations and bends at the knees. To view more photos, head over to his gallery. Colosal Customs Transformers Headmasters Highbrow Custom is a figure you need to add to your collection!
Custom Menasor Transformers Prime Figure by Jbarb78
The Stunticons are one of my favorite Decepticon combiners and Jbarb78 or procustomizers.com has a treat in store for you Transformers Prime fans with his Custom Menasor Transformers Prime figure. Due to the nature of the figure, it is an Action Masters style, meaning that the individual parts do not separate from the figure but the concept and execution of this amazing nonetheless. Bringing in the style and look and feel of the Transformers Prime universe. I love the look of the face and the chest plate on this one as it a very simple yet effective design. Here is more from Jbarb78 himself as he describes more about the figure:
"I started with a leader class Cybertron Megatron, and grafted on various TF Prime figures to each of his limbs, with the goal of creating the ideal combined mode without looking like was wearing "car-pad" armor. I also used various parts from other Prime figures like the leader class Optimus, and what ever fodder I could find to simulate Motormaster's truck parts."
To see more photos of Jbarb78's Custom Menasor Transformers Prime figure, you can catch it on eBay or check out more photos in his gallery over on procustomizers.com.
Galvatronus Transformers Custom Figure by Deceptipunk
I am a huge fan of original concepts and Deceptipunk has created this Custom Transformers Galvatronus figure for you to feast your eyes (and your wallet) on! Made from the Beast Hunters Shockwave and other Transformers figure, he imagines a Galvatron becoming increasingly more powerful (and cool looking) as he has acquired and unknown Energon source. This figure looks like it is a cross between colors found in Unicron, Galvatron, and Megatron with the orange, golds, and purples and the canon mode is reminiscent of both Galvatron and Megatron. Deceptipunk alludes to more characters being created from this concept in his auction page so go check out his Custom Transformers Galvatronus figure a look!
Megatron Custom Transformers Hybrid Figure by Shinobitron
When Shinobritron calls this a hybrid figure, he is not kidding! Combing several Transformers Universes together as well as one Autobot leader is a recipe for one killer looking figure. His Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron effectively combines styles from Generation 1, the Transformers movies, as well as the latest Beast Hunters line. As Shinobitron mentions on ProCustomizers.com, this figure is also a mix of "various other parts and pieces from around my work zone/ fodder bins." The Generation 1 aspect comes out loud and clear to me in robot mode. The addition of Meg's fusion canon was a very nice touch. While using the Beast Hunter's Optimus Prime figure as the base, the Transformers Movie comes out when the figure is in vehicle mode. If you remember, Megatron was a really decrepit oil tanker truck and aspects of this are present in the grill and the smoke stacks which are inherent in the base figure. Shinobitron always takes really close up detailed photos so check out his Custom Transformers Hybrid Megatron or his photo gallery to see more!
Catilla Custom Transformers G1 Pretender Figure by Primos Customs
Back in 1988, Catilla was part of the Pretenders lines. The outer Pretender Shell which contained his robot form can transform back into a yellow saber-toothed tiger with red and silver robotic armor. Armed with a large grey laser rifle that can be mounted on the top of his mechanical tiger form, this mechanical feline is ready for battle! Primos Customs has recreated and updated this beast with this Custom G1 Transformers Catilla figure. If you recall, I also featured his Pretender Prime custom, which was a similar genera of toy where a robot "pretends" to look like an organic being. I think bringing back the Pretenders was a great idea on Primos part as this is part of the Transformers line that does not get much attention. Beautifully executed, this figure retains the classic Generation 1 nature but the styling is light years beyond what the late 80's had to bring us. My favorite piece of this figure is that armor that sits atop of the feline, a great homage to the figure of yesteryear. In the original figure, the face shield was silver and I love the use of black instead on the figure makes the cat look more bad ass. You can check out super highly detailed photos over at his gallery or place a bid on his auction here!
Diaclone Devastator Custom Transformers Combiner by Xaviercal
Using the Shattered Glass TFW Hercules Perseus figure to create his Custom Diaclone Devastator Transformers Combiner, Xaviercal brings out the color and styling of this precursor to the Transformers line. I find it fascinating to learn the origin of words, phrases, and pretty much anything. For example, the phrase "the whole nine yards" comes from a World War 2 reference where aircraft machine gun belts were nine yards long. Relating this to the Transformers Universe, Diaclone is one of those words that is great to know the origin of. What is Diaclone? Well, before the Transformers brand was introduced, Takara directly exported some Diaclone toys to North America under the brand names Diakron and Kronoform, but those lines met with very little success. In 1983, Hasbro representatives discovered Diaclone and Microchange toys at the Tokyo Toy Show, and soon struck a deal to create the Transformers brand.
The colors really pop on this figure and brings the classic Diaclone look and feel with the primary use of reds and yellows. Xaviercal has numerous photos of his Custom Diaclone Devastator Transformers Combiner over at his auction page where he has taken single pictures of each figure close up as well as combined into the mighty behemoth we know as Devastator.
Takara Vehicon AM-14 Custom Transformers Hot Rod Rodimus Figure by Billmeister
The Takara Vehicon Transformers is an interesting concept as there are 4 distinct vehicle modes in the line up but they all look the same in robot mode. Billmeister has taken the Takara Vehicon AM-14 figure and did a total transformation into this Custom Transformers Hot Rod Rodimus figure. Using a custom head by Fakebuster, the figure's look is completed by a total repaint and additions of the classic Hot Rod flames on the front of the hood. Painted in a metallic reds, oranges, silvers, blues, and blacks give this figure a distinct look but reminiscent of the classic G1 Hot Rod.
Here is Billmeister to explain more about this killer figure:
Inspired by Jinsatoume's version using the same mold, and Fakebusker's headsculpt
I used metallics, and a dark shade of metallics, detailed areas with gradient on headlights, eyes, gun, and grid sections and some other minor areas as well. The flame was tricky to figure out how to make one that would fit into this universe. The flame was inspired by the Elite guard symbol, and Animated Rodimus. The orange stripe is inspired by smokescreen's triple stripe for this universe line. to add more flavor i did something new to the windshield and windows that i've never tried before. I used metallic stages toning darker towards the way up. Being the first of it's kind that i make, i felt i needed to do something special with the details and set a new milestone for my custom work, as i did for myself with my first ever custom which was SG Rodimus
You can also check out more detailed photos over at his gallery too!
Pretender Prime Custom Transformers Figure by Primos Customs
I thought this Custom Transformers Pretender Optimus Prime figure was a very cool concept! The story is amazing so without further ado I will let Primos take it from here:
After being severely damaged in battle with Bludgeon and the Mayhem Attack Squad on the ravaged planet Klo, Prime in put into a repair bay to heal his injured body. His Power Master body has suffered extensive damage.
Prime starts to remembering how many countless times this has happened. Looking at Ratchet "What is it all for? Megatron, Bludgeon, Shockwave, there’s always another enemy luring on the horizon. Always one step closer to putting out my spark for good."
Ratchet: " This is why you’re our Prime, you’re the answer to all these evils. Just relax Optimus. We’ll have you fixed up in no time " Prime: "Like so many times before"
As Prime slips into sleep he hears the Matrix calls him…Engulfing him into the light and pulling him to another time.
Prime is shown a savage war. Prime thinks to himself “Is this the past or the Future?”.
He’s watches a courageous Transformer named Primal. Both organic and machine on a somewhat familiar world. His body is something Optimus has seen before. Much like the Pretenders we developing on the Steel Haven from the stolen plans of Scorponok.(The Transformers (Marvel US) #40, "Pretender to the Throne!" )But these beings did not use it for disguises, they were both organic and machine as one.Prime see’s flashes of battles, Organics and Transmetal soldiers. The uncertain future of Cybertron. The namesake of Megatron and Prime live on into the future..or is this the past?
Then he sees the Ark, where he and the Autobots laid dormant for so many years. He’s see’s a new tyrant named Megatron lining up to destroy him. "Why are you showing me the past ? Has this already transpired"? Booom
Flash of Light. Clearing the landscape, he see’s Primal protecting his spark from Destruction. Combining it with his own "He’s saved me, before I awoke so long ago."Prime seen how they were together as Optimal Optimus as they shared his spark. His existence is a direct reflection of Primal’s own determination. That determination will protect his resting soul in the past. It’s a circle he can’t escape from. The Future and the past is one. The burden is to be shared!
"PRIME" He hears Ratchet calling. Losing focus and brought back into Ratchets repair bay. "Your Powermaster armor is pretty much destroyed" Were re-scanning you. Teletran-1 is rebuilding your original earth Alt mode. it will take some time before you’re ready to Roll Out". Prime: "Wait, I have an idea. Contact Maximus on the Steel Haven, Tell him I want initiate the Pretender process for myself until my body is repaired."
Rachet: "You, an Organic human? Don’t you think you would need something with a little more..bulk?" Prime: "Human? not exactly".
Pretender Prime!
Cyclonus Custom Generation 1 Transformers Figure by Captain Cosmics
Being second in command is a hard job. Created by Unicron, Cyclonus is a pretty intense Decepticon. Like Starscream was to Megatron, Cylonus is to Galvatron and Captain Cosmics' Customs has brought to life the Decepticon who is hell bent on destruction with his Custom G1 Transformers Cyclonus figure. The paint app is stellar on this figure! Using metallic paints, Cosmics' goes on to say, "Cyclonus has been lavishly painted from top to toe in beautiful metallic pearl t9 give this loyal and respected decepticon the physical presence he deserves, complimented with violets, reds, greys and a plethora of airbrushed metallics." The flow of purple on the figure was very well done as it is not a uniform solid color, which gives the figure a much more interesting appearance. The greys also have a similar effect, which make it look like this Custom G1 Transformers Cyclonus has just returned fresh from battle! If you are looking for a G1 Cylonus that captures the look and feel of the Transformers Cartoon Movie, then this is the one! If you want to see more detailed photos, head over to Captain Cosmics' gallery featuring his killer repaint!

Custom Transformers Prime Optimus Prime First Edition by Sagedad1306
What a difference an accurate paint app makes! Not only has Sagedad1306 created a show accurate figure with his Custom Transformers Prime Optimus Prime figure but he also integrated the G1 coloring that we all grew up with.
As you can see from the comparison photo, the dark brown plastic parts were painted with a nice metallic silver color, which makes these features pop, especially in the torso region. The choice of red that was used blends nicely with the G1 color scheme. The same attention to detail was paid to the guns and accessories as well. These were given a small amount of black washing which gives the guns a cool effect. To see more photos of the accessories and the more shot of the overall figure, head over to eBay and check out this cool Custom Transformers Prime Optimus Prime figure.
AFC Interviews Steve’s Customs
AFC has the pleasure of interviewing Steve's Customs! Enjoy meeting this talented customizer:
AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself
Steve: My name is Steve. I am 41 years old but I'm still a child at heart. I love customizing action figures because I am never happy with the way they look from the factory. I am an active member on Procustomizers.com and I am also active on facebook. I have a website as well: http://www.stevescustomfigures.webs.com. I am married to my beautiful wife Grace, I have 2 daughters, Kate 22 and Kira 16. I am also a grandfather of 3. Aiden 3, Carly 2 and Sophia. 2 months.
AFC: When did you start making customs?
Steve: I started doing customs when I was about 13. I think it was Voltron. I had a small version that didn't come apart but I wanted to have the lions disassemble. So I took it apart and made legs and painted the little guys.
AFC: Can you describe your workspace?
Steve: I have a work table in my shed. It's not the greatest place to work. I do have electric though. Bless the invention of the extension cord. LOL I can't do anything in the winter. It just gets too cold out there.
AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?
Steve: My absolute favorite line is The Transformers. They are usually easy to take apart and reassemble.
AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?
Steve: The custom I am most proud of.........That's a tough one. My WFC Megatron because it's the first figure I've ever put an LED in. Also my WFC Nemesis Prime. I love all the add ons I made for it.

AFC: What customs do you have lined up?
Right now I'm doing FOC Grimlock. I'm working on the LEDs right now. I put a new on/off switch in it and an LED in the robot head. Working on finishing it up right now. I have about 10 projects in various stages. For whatever reason, I haven't gotten around to finishing them yet. One day......
AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?
Steve: Be patient. If you rush something, you're going to mess it up. Also, learn as much as you can. You can only improve with time.
Soundwave and Laserbeak Shattered Glass Transformers Custom by Chonosmoon
Chonosmoon has given the Decepticons communication officer a really clean look with his Custom Transformers Shattered Glass Soundwave and Lasserbeak figure. In the original figure produced by Hasbrol, the color scheme washed out any of the detail on the drone but Chonosmoon has fixed this with an impeccable paint app and custom styling. The decision to lighten the figure up was a great one and the G1 blue that adorns the figure is there to bring out the subtle detail and, in my opinion, pay homage to the Generation Soundwave we great up with. This is a great example of how the smallest details can really make or break a custom and it just goes to show you that sometimes being subtle is all you need!

Motormouth Custom G2 Transformers Go-Bots Figure by Jin Saotome
Originally released as a Go-Bot figure, Jin Saotome has brought this Generation 2 Autobot into the styling of Transformers Prime with his Custom Transformers G2 Motormouth Go-Bots figure. Part of the first wave of Go-Bots, Motormouth transforms into a Ford F150 Flareside pickup truck. Using through-axle construction for his wheels, he is compatible with most "Hot Wheels" and "Matchbox" playsets and tracks. As for the history of the Go-Bots lines, In 1991, Hasbro took over Tonka, and thus the Gobot trademarks; the molds for the action figures remain the property of Bandai, having only been leased to Tonka, and some were reissued in 1993 for the European Robo Machines line. Since then, the trademarks have been used several times—a character called Gobots was released in 1993, a range of figures in 1995 were called the Go-Bots.
As for Jin's figure, this bad boy won't fit into any Matchbox or Hotwheels play sets. Keeping with the G2 styling, you will notice the gold rims that the orginial figure sported back in the day as well as two arm saws mounted on 5mm posts that can detach and be used with other Transformers as well as a giant rifle to blast away the enemy. To place a bid on this cool blast from the past, head over to eBay and check out Jin's Custom Transformers G2 Motormouth Go-Bots figure.
AFC Q&A with Customs by Z: Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Custom Shockwave
AFC: What is the custom you have up for sale on eBay this week?
Customs by Z: Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Shockwave
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
Customs by Z: The eye! It seriously needed some life added to it, so I hooked it up with a dual LED look! Both red and yellow operated by the same switch.
AFC: How was this figure made?
Customs by Z: This was just a standard repaint. I used a custom mix of Kustom Kolor lacquer paint and some enamel paints for detail. I also added a custom LED/electronics setup that gives Shockwave both a Red and Yellow eyes and a high intensity red LED in his canon.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
Customs by Z: Actual working time probably around 10 or so.... but with paint curing times and my overall procrastination a week from start to finish.
AFC: Is there any other interesting information about the process of making this custom that you would like to share with your fans?
Customs by Z: Nothing out of the ordinary... but with electronics, it is best to map your path PRIOR to installation!

Grimlock Shattered Glass Custom Transformers Fall of Cybertron Figure by Wilestbilame
The Shattered Glass Transformers features a twisted world where do-gooders are evil and villains are saints. Wilestbilame has brought the leader of the Dinobots into this bizzare universe with his Custom Transformers Shattered Glass Grimlock figure. When you dig deeper, the figure is an amalgamation of the Fall of Cybertron, Shattered Glass, and G1 worlds where the paint app and styling pays homage to the largest transforming dinosaur Decepticon Trypticon. With the freedom to make the figure how he wanted it, all of the styles combine into one amazing looking figure. I thought it was a cool idea to design the figure after a G1 Decepticon, which really makes the figure fit in to the "dark side" of the Transformers Shattered Glass scheme. To hear more about what inspired this great creation, here is Wilestbilame to tell you more about it:
"Having enjoyed the Fall of cybertron video game I had an absolute blast playing as Grimlock, there's nothing cooler than being a prehistoric powerhouse raining fire all over my foes! LOL so I felt more than motivated to give the incredibly awesome and recently released voyager figure a spin, and having seen some cool looking customs done in his game accurate color scheme I wanted to take a different approach for my personal attempt by bringing back one of his coolest incarnations, The Evil Shattered Glass Universe Grimlock! based on the extremely popular mirror universe where autobots are evil and decepticons are heroic, one concept that really stood out to me was that of Grimlock appearing in colors that homage Trypticon, although he was given a darker grey color than his G1 persona, I always thought Grimlock would look better in black to truly bring out the trypticon within him."
Custom Masterpiece Optimus Prime Transformers MP-10 G1 Figure by ThyVipera
Starting with Hasbro's MP-10 version of the leader of the Autobots, ThyVipera has built upon a solid foundation and made it even better with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure. With the limited paint app from the original figure, I can see why ThyVipera decided to change up the colors to make them more deeper and richer. For example, in Hasbro's version, the blue looks more pastel and the colors make the figure looks like plastic. With ThyVipera's version, he has selected darker colors, even going as far as darkening the Autobot symbol on the figure's arms, which is a great, but subtle, addition to the overall look and feel of the figure. The inside of Optimus' trailer looks amazing as it got a first class paint app, bringing out the richness and detail of this hidden gem. An excellent job was done retaining the G1 feel while changing up the colors for this Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure!
AFC Q&A with Xaviercal: Custom Transformers Masterpiece Soundblaster
Ever wonder the effort it takes to make a custom but were too afraid to ask? AFC interviews Xaviercal to find out more about his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Soundblaster figure:
AFC: What is the custom you have up for sale on eBay this week?
Xaviercal: Well this week I will have a inspired Masterpiece G1 Soundblaster custom from the Headmasters cartoon series.
AFC: How was this figure made?
Xaviercal: This figure was a MP-13 Takara Soundwave, repainted using ,metallic black & red both from Tamiya Color as well as a bit of custom blending to give Soundblaster a very nice look such as a Henkei figure but not overdone that It could fit with other stock Masterpiece and Customs. As painting techniques goes, one big step that is mainly key factor is the disassemble to every little bit and cleaning each piece from stock paint or else the new paint might react to it and well come out terrible or everything will need to redone. The key is always to take time in preparation in cleaning the figures especially if you are going for a clean look.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
Xaviercal: Hmm I would guess with taking it apart, cleaning it, painting, masking, paint some more, wait for it to dry, putting it back together and final taking photos of it, would say a good 48 hours about. It is hard to keep track, especially with other projects going on at the same time.
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
Xaviercal: Well had come across a MP Soundwave and thought about doing a Normal Soundwave but why not Soundblaster? Actually now that I think about it, I hardly see any Soundblasters around, but yes he has a cool color scheme, black with red with some blue in it.
AFC: Is there any other interesting information about the process of making this custom that you would like to share with your fans?
Xaviercal: Well there are sometimes design changes that happen at the last minute. For example, I painted Soundblaster's chest a translucent red; however when it came to the photos, his chest was too dark to tell it was red so I went back to repaint it a solid red now, which now has better impact in the overall design.
AFC Q&A with Frenzy.Rumble: Custom Masterpiece Revenge of the Generation One Starscream
AFC sits down with Frenzy.Rumble to get the latest info on his Custom Masterpiece Revenge of the Generation One Starscream figure:
AFC: What is the custom you have up for sale on eBay this week?
Frenzy.Rumble: Masterpiece Revenge of the Generation One Starscream
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
Frenzy.Rumble: I'm a huge fan of both Generation One and the movie stuff. Why not mash the aesthetics of both designs
AFC: How was this figure made?
Frenzy.Rumble: This creative and unique Masterpiece Starscream is a hybrid / mash-up of Generation One Starscream and Movie-verse Style Starscream. I hand painted (no stencils!) his jet mode's tattoos using references from the movie and existing figures. Starscream is painted in a barrage of grays. Really happy with the way he turned out. Original figure was iGear's Thundercracker, which has superior sliding tail sections, better joints and other neat Easter eggs.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
Frenzy.Rumble: Starscream took about 20 hours from start to finish
AFC: Is there any other interesting information about the process of making this custom that you would like to share with your fans?
Frenzy.Rumble: The "tattoos" are all free hand painted. I post up near my work station some reference images and load up my brush with paint and get painting.
Overlord Custom Transformers GI Joe Crossover by GetRightRobot
You really can't go wrong when you combine the two most successful toy lines in history with each other. GetRightRobot has this recipe down and his Overlord Custom Transformers GI Joe Crossover figure is evidence of this. Taking a vintage Night Raven and HISS Tank, GRR has painstakingly prepared these iconic toys to combine with each other to form a gigantic figure that stands over two feet tall. Here is GRR to tell you more about it:
"There were 283 pieces individually cleaned, prepped and airbrushed for this big boy. He is 26" tall and the Mega Jet alone is over 2 feet long! There are 53 moving parts including 37 ratchet joints. The neck alone has 3" of optional travel, 3 ratchet joints, and a nice stiff ball joint in the head to allow superhuman range of posing. The legs slide (HISS tank halves) onto pins and then snap into place and ABSOLUTELY cannot fall off accidentally. The drone or piggyback jet fits securely onto the Night Raven (Mega Jet) and into the right hand by interlocking into the thumb and finger. Utilizing a stern peg in the 'trigger' to prevent falling. This guy was BOLTED together using mostly 8-32 screws and nuts. This massive custom needed more than glue. The aesthetics of the robot mode were inspired by Overlord's appearance in Last Stand of the Wreckers and the head was modeled to reflect that design. The front of the jet/shield attaches to the left arm via a heavy, interlocking peg that sits on a swiveling ratchet joint. The Zarana (Mega) and Zartan (Giga) features G1 toy paint schemes and 'backpacks'. Their packs can post into Overlords chest as the G1's did. Either figure can pilot any of the 5 available cockpits. Any 3 and 3/4 GI Joe is compatible with this set."
Combining the two color schemes inherent in the Transformers and GI Joe lines, this crossover figure represents the best of both universes. Add to the fact that any GI Joe can fit in these vehicles, you have a recipe for one amazing custom! To view more photos and to watch a really cool video, head over to eBay and check out GRR's Overlord Custom Transformers GI Joe Crossover figure.
Piranacon Custom G1 Transformers Seacons Combiner by Scultp-Bot
You have probably gathered by now that I have an affinity for combiners done really well and Sculp-Bot has created his version of a Custom Transformers Piranacon combiner that will blow your mind. I don't know if you think about how much work goes into making these customs but Sculpt-bot has spent over 100 hours pouring his heart and soul into this amazing work of art. Sometimes, customizers have to sacrifice the transformability (ok I made that word up) of the figure to create these tall figures but, in this case, he sought out a team of 6 Decepticons. I love it when customizers tell the entire story of how they created this great figures and, lucky for us, Sculp-bot has provided it so here it is:
"This team is the result of 3 years of parts scrounging, modifying, and scratchbuilding, and has over 100 hours of work, and too many individual parts to name invested into it. Included is Snap Trap, Nautilator, Overbite, Skalor, Tentakil, and Seawing. All combine to form the super robot mode of Piranacon. Most of the figures in the set owe their existence to no less than four different toys (in some cases up into the double digits in donor figures) and all have an element of scratchbuilding as well. I found the original "Sea Monster" concept kind of silly, and have changed up the creatures to be a little more menacing (doing away with Tentakil's "Sigmund the Sea Monster" mode, and changing Skalor's Coelacanth monster to the far more powerful and intimidating Dunkleosteus.) I also made a conscious effort to have the bot-modes represent different body types (slim, stocky, short, tall, etc.,) because it adds a little visual interest to the set, and mirrors one of the few things I like about the recent selection of retail sets (Animated, and Prime series showcasing different bot body styles.) I also limited the color pallette to a total of 4 base colors to further unify the group, and serve a more cohesive combined mode. I also did away with the weapon modes for each, as they looked like an afterthough on Hasbro's part with the originals, and I did not want mine to suffer the same issue (3 modes were hard enough to come up with!)"
One aspect that Sculpt-bot nailed was the colors. Granted, the original color scheme of these figure from the G1 era were not that great but somehow he made these colors work on the figure. He did this by toning down the pastel look to the figure that the G1 figures had an abundance of. The really cool thing is if you head over to his auction page, you will find a link to over 100 photos he has taken of his Custom Transformers Piranacon combiner so check it out!
Omega Supreme Custom WFC Transformers Figure by Xaviercal
Go big or go home! Xaviercal is taking that mantra to heart with his Custom Transformers WFC Omega Supreme figure. Striving for a game accurate War for Cybertron color scheme, Xaviercal has gone above and beyond and created this figure with more detail than the actual game. Here is some background on the figure from his creator:
"War for Cybertron Omega Supreme has being created by Planet X's PX-01 Genesis. Planet X's PX-01 Genesis: it one of best figure in personal view; is one of the most detailed and very accurate especially for its size and weight. This figure has more detail then the actual video game model. Omega transforms into a space craft as seen in the video game but also a secret base mode as well that represents G1 Omega launching rocket pad. I have taken him completely apart every limb and section for the preparation for paint... I have completely repainted him inside and out to more game accurate colors scheme, and keeping with his video game feel of War for Cybertron. Everything has being detailed painted and extend panel lining into the red veins or black depending on the pieces. He is an amazing figure full of fun and is an awesome piece to any collection."
The colors on this figure truly make it a work of art. You can tell that Xaviercal takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows. He has even gone as far as filling in tiny paint details in some of the smaller groves of the figure, which bring out the richness and depth makes the figure pop! There are more detailed photos on his auction page so head over to eBay and check out this amazing Custom Transformers WFC Omega Supreme figure.
Custom Transformers Prime Galvatron Figure by Zildjian
I can't believe that I have been featuring work by Zildjian (back then that is what he called himself) for over 5 years now and his customs get better and better as time goes one. Take his Custom Transformers Prime Galvatron figure, for example. He has gone by Customs by Z for a while now but if you want to look up his older customs, just go here! In a collaborative effort with Fakebuster, another talented customizer, they have produced one of the best Galvatron figures I have seen to date. Capturing the raw essence of the character from the 1980's Transformers Movie, the rough edging of steel makes it look like the paint is peeling off from battle. The LED's give the figure an ominous and sinister feel and I could imagine Galvatron lighting up as he was just about to blast a fireball through his iconic orange canon. Here are some more details about the figure from Z himself:
"GALVATRON stands approximately 6"-7" inches tall. This is the second of two extremely novel figures that was completed with a unique set of add on parts that were made exclusively by none other than FAKEBUSKER! Through a very generous agreement with one of my best and most loyal commissioners, I was able to obtain 2 additional sets of the Galvatron upgrade kit."
For your change to own this rare Custom Transformers Prime Galvatron figure, head over to eBay! While you are there, scroll all the way down to the end of the listing and check out the before and after photo to see how amazing Zildjian's craftsmanship and execution is.
Starscream Fall of Cybertron Custom Transformers Figure by Billmeister
The latest iteration of Megatron's lackey blends two different generations and two distinct universes into iconic figure. I am referring to the hybrid style of the shape of the figure, which looks mostly like a jet but has that unique triangular shape to it as if Starscream was back on Cybertron. A great looking figure that Billmeister has made even better with his Custom Transformers Fall of Cybertron figure. Painting the figure in a classic motif of reds, blues, steel, and yellow, this figure is reminiscent of the 1980's style with a fully updated modern look. The metallics add a different depth and dimension to the figure and give it a more rugged and fearsome appeal, which looks ever so menacing in robot mode.
Custom Transformers Fall of Cybertron Grimlock by Billmeister
Fresh off the shelves and into Billmeister's talented hands come his rendition of the Fall of Cybertron Grimlock figure. Taking the spirit of the FOC game into account, he tried to make the figure as accurate as possible. Being a sword and shield brawler in the game, the figure captures this feeling with the additions of a highly detailed flaming orange blade and shield. The colors on the blade and shield almost look like embers glowing from a crackling fire, a feature that blends in with the rest of the figures motif. The overall image of the figure looks like Grimlock has been to hell and back, with detailed weathering, scoring, and metallic coloring. This figure looks even more impressive in robot mode so to view more photos of Billmeister's Custom Transformers Fall of Cybertron figure, head over to eBay! One last thing...when you look at the photos, check out the killer Autobot symbol on his chest as it is a twist on this iconic symbol from 1980's.
Fortress Maximus Custom Transformers Figure by Colosal Customs
Grant it, I am a sucker for ginormous Transformers and Colosal Customs' Fortress Maximus fit the bill! Standing at a towering 2 feet tall, this figure is definitely worthy of the Fortress Maximus title. Colosal Customs makes some amazing figures and he has outdone himself with this one. The figure is painted to the nines and resembles comic art for the Transformers artist Dan Khanna. This figure is fully transformable with some great additions, including plethora of articulation and joints to make this figure more poseable. Looking just as good in fortress mode, Colosal's Custom Transformers Fortress Maximus figure is definitely one to add to the collection!
Broken Mirror Custom Transformers Devastator Original Concept by Encline Designs
Original concepts are what keep me searching for my next topic to write about and Encline Designs has delivered with his Custom Transformers Broken Mirror Devastator in a Dinobot color scheme. You may be asking yourself, "What is Broken Mirror and how did I miss this?" Well, to explain, here is that Encline Designs had to say:
"So I am doing my own version of the "SHATTERED GLASS" idea. Broken Mirror..or whatever. I don't care about the name. ha.. I used the AWESOME MAKETOYS GIANT as a base. He stands 12" tall gesalt mode. I know all G1ners feel the same, DEVASTATOR vs The Dinobots. To me they are like Optimus and Megatron. So it just seemed the natural thing to do is switch the colors. The best part, that color scheme also works to create an OMEGA SUPREME in gestalt mode! So this is my homage to DEVASTATORS two mortal enemies."
Giving this figure 3 distinct looks, Encline Designs has made 3 custom heads (Devastator, Dinobot, and Omega Supreme) in order to carry out his concept to the fullest. His work is of the utmost caliber and quality and you will be hard pressed to find other customers that match his skill and talent.
If you are into hearing more of the back story on the concept and figures, here you go:
"Searching deep into the future of other planets, evil mad Scientist Autobot Ratchet has discovered the most powerful vehicles on a distant planet called Earth. As his usual ways of experimenting on the Heroic Decepticons in cruel, twisted, and ultimately, with fatal results just to see how much they can take. The Rag Tag group of Megatron elite skilled force is now the subject of torture at the hands of Ratchet. Giving them earth construction vehicles in hopes of creating the most powerful slaves he can control, Ratchet has drained most of the Energon in his lab. The results? Not death. But powerfeul, fast, agile, intelligent, and very very angry bots. One would think that with the combination of the highly skilled Constructicons combining together could only mean one thing:DESTRUCTION. In an odd turn of events, instilled in the gesalt mode is a code that allows for three scenarios: Protection of all life and self sacrifice, Skilled warrior, and the most terrifying, Primative force. Each serves a purpose. While Protection is a humble and loving being, his dominating force is a strong hatred for the Evil Omega Desctructor. Protection is ofter in a constant state of turmoil at the fact the feels such emotions for such a being that he used to be so strongly connected. Warrior is there when this powerful gestalt needs to be fast, smart, and agile. He prefers to use his speed in battle but is also able to negotiate with reasoning and stun other bots mentally and telepathically. PRIMITIVE FORCE: The last to be used. When all else is failing and the Decepticons are facing a loosing battle; the anger, hatred, and all out beast with in will surface."
Custom Transformers DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime by Wylun Customs
If you ever wondered where Prime's trailer comes from when it magically appears when he transformers, Wylun Customs gives you hint this his Custom Transformers DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime figure. Taking a ROTF leader class Optimus Prime and combining the figure with the DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime trailer, Wylun fused the armor to the figure and integrated it into key areas to make this killer Optimus Prime figure. This is the first time I have seen the Trailer integrated into a figure like this and I have to say that the enhancements it makes to the overall appearance of Prime makes him look even better!
As you can see, you can get a great look at the trailer detail from the back of the figure. In addition to the enhanced look of Prime, Wylun also gave him an ion canon and a cool removable helmet, which makes Prime look almost like a Roman Gladiator. With all of the detail that was poured into this figure, the transform-ability had to get sacrificed but that is a small price to pay to get a figure this detailed and stunning. Megatron Custom Leader Class DOTM Transformers + Lincoln Chair Dio
You have to admit that a large robot walking through the desert with a "disguise" over his head was a stretch but it gave Megatron a unique look for the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie. Capturing this look in stunning detail is Andy Hibb's Custom Transformers DOTM Megatron. Using ROTF Leader Prime and ROTF Leader Megatron parts as well as many scratch built parts using styrene, Andy has created a super detailed movie version and combining one his favorite scenes in the movie, he has also made a mini diorama! Here is Andy to tell you more about his creation:
"The figure can be posed in many different ways and is very articulated! I have studied many movie stills and pictures to create a very movie accurate custom which will be a perfect addition to any serious collectors collection. Blackout Transformers Scratch Built Movie Custom by drive_95bd
I have to admit, I think I may gone overboard when the first Transformers movie came out by watching it 6 times in the movie theater but I awe struck when I first saw Blackout transform on the silver screen. This week, drive_95bd has a scratch built Custom Transformers Movie Blackout for sale this week and I must say that this figure brings back a lot of memories. Created from 6 different transformers, this figure looks a lot like the movie character appearance. When you get down to the details, the finer machine parts look so realistic (see below).

Custom Transformers Ultimate Leader Class Ironhide by Xaviercal
Looks like someone is trying to offload one of Xaviercal's coolest customs on eBay this week! This Custom Transformers Ultimate Ironhide in Leader Class scale. Irohide is a master of weaponology and this rendition of the figure really pays homage to the kick ass nature of the Autobot who got little airtime in the movies for how cool he is. Eighteen LED lights adorn this amazing figure, which are located in the Head, Headlights, fog lights, cab lights, stock guns, and 3rd part weapons, to name a few. The paint app is impressive and really highlights the metallic looking parts on a plastic figure. Not only does the figure look intimidating in robot mode, but it looks just as cool in vehicle mode! Custom Transformers Generation 1 Metroplex by Primos Customs
Primos Customs has outdone himself with his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Metroplex figure. Not only has he captured the feeling of one of the greatest large scale Transformers of all time, he made it his own. This is what customizing is all about. Using his creative freedom while retaining the Generation 1 classic we grew up with, this figure is a more slimmed down, taller version of the Autobot City. By making this figure larger, it makes the figure more intimidating and impressive! The weathering on the paint job makes the figure look like it has been in some fierce battles and with two other modes (City and Battle Station), Primos has created one of the greatest Metrplex figures I have come across. To view more photos of this amazing figure, head over eBay to check out his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Metroplex figure.
Galvatron Masterpiece Transformers G1 Movie Figure by Nemesis Customs
Aiming to create the most G1 accurate figure, Nemesis Customs has crafted this amazing looking Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Galvatron custom. When I first saw this custom, I thought the paint looked silky smooth, an effect that helps bring out the cartoon look and feel Nemesis was looking for. The flat finish really brings home that G1 cartoon feel. There are numerous modifications to this figure that make it top notch, including G1 hip panels, a painted Masterpiece Matrix with steel chain, and a detachable arm canon to name a few. The figure looks just as great in canon mode!
Metroplex Masterpiece Scale Custom Transformers Figure by Colosal Customs
Colosal Customs is living up to his name with his Custom Masterpiece Scale Transformers G1 Metroplex figure. Staying true to the G1 look and feel of the Classic figure we loved from the 80's, this figure stands 18" tall with great articulation. I remember the G1 Metroplex being a cool figure but the joints had little movement, which basically meant that you could moves the arms up and down and the legs from front to back. As you can see in the photos, this Metroplex is ready for action with some killer poseability. Some of the features that I enhance the look of the figure are the way the dark lines were painted in the figure, which gives the figure depth. For a mostly white figure, this was critical. Sixgun and Scamper also accompany the figure so head over to eBay to view the two other alternate modes this Custom Masterpiece Scale Transformers G1 Metroplex figure transforms into!
Smokestorm Custom Transformers Masterpiece Figure by Wilestbilame
The Masterpiece Seeker Jet figures have been a popular canvas to create unique characters and Wilestbilame has used this mould to create this visually stunning Custom Transformers Masterpiece Smokestorm figure. The figure touts 3D fire and smoke effects and I must say that it delivers on that aspect so much that if the figure smelled charred metal I would call it 4D! The flame effects actually make the figure look like it is on fire, an effect that is extremely difficult to replicate in plastic and paint. The smoke effects are all over the figure in the right places. To hear how this concept came to life, let's read what inspired Wilestbilame to create this great figure:
"Smokestorm is the realization of a concept created by a fellow TF fan and good friend a while back that really grew on me as it's own character and a truly awesome addition to the ever popular rainmaker seeker army, being a smoke based seeker himself, smokestorm is not only able to withstand temperatures that would melt even the thoughts of other decepticons, but also manipulate the smoke and molten metal to adegree that he is able to use it to his advantage for stealth, and recoinassance missions, as well as give the full feeling of a "warm" welcome to any foolish autobot that dares come close! Smokestorm was customized with the highest quality automotive grade lacquer paint available and was modified on his hips to remove that undesirable hip kibble which when fixed not only gives him a more complete and streamlined appearance but better poseability not possible before! utilizing a unique method, I was able to replicate truly awe- inspiring three dimensional flame/fire effects on his wings, sidefins and tailfins through a very systematic modification process utilizing real fire for a really authentic burning metal appearance!"

Jetfire Masterpiece Transformers G1 Custom by Darkcave Customs
Jetfire is one of my all time favorite Transformers to this day. In fact, I still have the G1 version sitting in my closet in the hopes that this great figure will be on display somewhere in my house some day. Taking what we know and love from the Generation 1 series and figure and fuzing it with IDW Stormbringer concept comes Darkcave Custom's Masterpiece Transformers Jetfire figure. Capturing and creating the multiple looks the character had through the years is captured in this piece. An homage to the G1 Transformers cartoon is shown above while the figure as portrayed by the toy that was produced in 1985 is shown below. While capturing all these looks, Darkcave was able to custom sculpt the head and have a helmet to accompany the figure. I have always been in pursuit of a bright white Jetfire figure but Darkcave decided to paint the figure with a ton of carbon scoring and weathering detail, which adds to the genuine feel of the character. Darkcave Custom's Masterpiece Transformers Jetfire figure is truly one of a kind so head over to eBay and check out this amazing figure.
Bruticus Transformers Fall of Cybertron Custom Combiner by Xaviercal
Inspired by the Fall of Cybertron box art from San Diego Comic Con, Xaviercal has created this stunning action masters style Custom Transformers FOC Bruticus figure. What drew me to this figure was the sharp lines and vibrant colors. Looking at in game screenshots, art work and trailers, Xaviercal has translated the fluid movement in the game and used this to articulate the figure. Here is more about this great figure from Xaviercal himself:
"The inspired for custom FOC Bruticus came from the box art that appears on the SDCC FOC Bruticus set. I wanted to aim for what appears on the box art. I want to recreate that fantasy art work. Make the art work come alive in this custom FOC Bruticus figure. Further more it should had being the FOC Bruticus we should have gotten. Custom Transformers G1 Insecticon Combiner Pestilence by Colosal Customs
The Insecticons were an interesting breed of Decepticon robots. These creatures, along with the Dinobots, were the first Transformers to deviate from the machines that made up the bulk of the Autobot and Decepticon characters. Taking this concept to the next level is Colosal Customs' Transformers G1 Insecticon Combiner that he dubbed, 'Pestilence.' The name is a great play on words and if you are familiar with the Bible, Pestilence symbolizes plague (contagious disease) in some interpretations of the book of Revelation. Taking Napalm, Kickback, Bombshell, Shrapnel, and Shellshock, Colosal has created a super Insecticon combiner that is 15" tall! A fantastic concept that is well executed, this combiner retains its G1 look and feel with the use of purples and yellows. This figure really looks like it could go head to head with toughest of Autobot combiners. Here is the back story on Pestilence:
"We lay in wait in the dark places, dank places. We exist to cause chaos and destruction. Our hive mind was perfectly suited for Megatrons combination process. We serve him now, but there is another. We felt his influence durring the process, we feel him now... So we will bide our time awaiting his arrival. Untill then, we are Pestilence and we are HUNGRY!!!"
If you click over and read more about Colosal Customs' Transformers G1 Insecticon Combiner, you will find out more great facts about this menacing figure.
Airachnid Transformers Prime Custom by Cheetimus
Emulating Airchnid's appearance on the Transformers Prime cartoon as closely as possible, Cheetimus has modified this figure into the spider like creature it was intended to be with his Custom Transformers Prime Airachnid figure. Originally designed to be a helicopter (hence the 'Air' in the figures name), Cheetimus has crafted her half-spider mode with detachable extra legs. The legs were also given more range of motion and are able to support the full weight of the figure. The cockpit has been painted with finer detail, which is sometimes and afterthought since the you can't see it when the cockpit is closed. Cheetimus has created a very fine figure that a ton more detail than the off the shelf version!
Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Movie Figure by TB Productions
The first thought that came to mind when I saw TB Production's Custom Transformers Optimus Prime figure was, "Go ahead, make my day!" With custom built forearms, jetpack with articulating gas tanks, feet with mechanic details and balljoint, legs with outer heavy armor, chest/abs torso armor with balljoint, and shoulder armor, this Optimus Prime is ready to kick some Decepticon tail! Looking at the intricate detail and paint application, it is no wonder why this Prime is a nontransformable figure as TB poured his heart and soul into making the best Optimus he could.
Hellstorm Transformers Masterpiece Original Custom by Frenzy.Rumble
From the depths where fire and brimstone unite to form comes Frenzy.Rumble's original Custom Masterpiece Transformers Hellstorm figure. The coloring could not have been more dead on for this type of figure. The amount of charring mixed with the sulfer yellow tones compliment each other very well. Unlike his Custom Masterpiece Sunstorm figure, there is a minimal amount of melted metal effects, which you can see on the wings and the legs. Frenzy.Rumble tells us a little more about this character:
"He started as a MP Skywarp, and was painfully detailed and camouflaged with an array of dark reds, blacks and grays. I accented some parts with a nice glowing brimstone and char effect. I also tweaked the Decepticon symbol to give it demon horns. Hellstorm also has 2 custom built swords which slice and dice through his victims like a hot knife on butter. Nothing makes Hellstorm happier than an Energon drenched weapon."
I love seeing original characters as it expands the universe of figures and takes the toy lines to new heights and Frenzy.Rumble's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Hellstorm figure is a great example of imagination meeting ingenuity and creativity.
Omega Supreme Custom Generations Transformers Figure by Xaviercal
Giving this giant of the an Autobot a fresh, updated look, Xaviercal has created a killer Custom Transformers Generations Omega Supreme figure. By combining the best of the Energon and G1 Omega Supreme's, the overall look is a more modern version of this gentle robot. In order to achieve the look that he wanted, transformation has been sacrificed thus turning Omega into an Action Masters version. The dark colors play very well off the yellows and oranges, giving the figure a strikingly different look than we are used to seeing. To top it off, he also sculpted the head and put a ball joint on it. I also thought it was a great idea to make the tracks blend in with the overall figure! More detailed photos can be found over on eBay so head over and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Generations Omega Supreme figure.
Optimus Prime Masterpiece Transformers Custom MP10 by Jbarb78
There is nothing like seeing a G1 Optimus Prime to bring back all of those amazing memories as a child and Jbarb78 has applied a stunning paint app to the one and only Takara MP10 Transformers Optimus Prime figure. Entirely disassembling the figure, he brought out all of the detail in this larger than life icon. Some of the detailing is exemplified by the silver accents on the insides of the legs. In the original design by Takara, the leg pieces are just blue but in Jbarb78's design, you can see a more mechanical version, bringing out the robot detail that was hidden. You can also see this in the arms as well as the pre-customized version has a solid red arm between the forearm and the shoulder and the customized version has a layer of silver applied. You can see more detailed photos over at his auction page so head over and check out Jbarb78's Takara MP10 Transformers Optimus Prime figure!
Grimlock Custom Transformers Large Scale Figure by Kenjo
It is a widely accepted theory that the Dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid that collided with earth over 65 million years ago but Kenjo's Custom Transformers Grimlock looks like it has arisen from ash and fire from that fateful day. There is a gritty appeal that drew me to this custom. A unique design for Grimlock has this figure standing as tall as the Unicron figure that came out years ago and from the looks of it, pieces of the robot devouring planet were used to construct this beast. I love the paint app as it looks like Grimlock has been in a raging battle that has left his metal scarred and burned. A great concept that is sure to do well! If you want to see more photos of Kenjo's Custom Transformers Grimlock, head over to eBay!
Menasor Custom G1 Transformers Combiner by JCartwork
It is always a blast from the past when I see the G1 Transformers in a new light! JCartwork, building on experience from 2 previous Stunticon combiners, has really hit a home run with this Custom G1 Transformers Menasor combiner. The vivid colors really capture the look and feel from the 1980's version but with a very updated look. Some of the subtle aspects that I like about this custom are the silver accents on the purple feet and the LED's in the eyes, which gives the figure a Menacing look (no pun intended)! JCartwork provided a back story on this custom so let's see what was said:
"This is my 3rd combiner project Menasor ,after devastator and defensor . Accumulating from my previous experience in building a combiner ,I have really taken a mile stone ahead in getting less kibble and tighter joint done .Besides all those precious experience I have gain ,I have also accepted critics in improving my previous job and also inject new ideas in my current and future project .Stunticons are always my favourite character during my childhood days where I used to collect 1 by 1 to make them combine as menasor .Making 1 menasor alive do reminisce me to the old days .It took me a few months to get those pieces of job combine into 1 and also I have spent some very good quaity time in making those individual stunticons alive by giving them a detail paint job .I coated them with a very thin layer of lacquer paint and diffuse it lightly with some very define detailing process .Took me almost near to 2 months in getting the paint job done .Its really a painstaking proccess but after seeing the overall result ,all the hard work are paid off."
A job well done indeed! To place a bid on this killer Custom G1 Transformers Menasor combiner, head over to eBay!
Custom Transformers G1 Movie MP Rodimus Prime Figure by xleonx007
Whenever I see a custom inspired from the G1 Transformers movie from 1986, the soundtrack plays on a running loop in my head. It is a blessing and curse sometimes but the words "You've got the touch...you've got the power," have a special meaning when it comes xlean007's Custom Transformers G1 Movie MP Rodimus Prime figure as it was customized in honor of the new leader of the Autobots in the colors from the movie. I love when customizers provide their inspiration for creating figures so here is xleonx007 in his own words:
"The new leader of the Autobots and star of the 1986 animated film made this character my all time favorite. So I knew I had to make my own custom the way I wanted. He had to look tough and fearless. However, Hasbro/Takara just came out with their version, although it seems to be the best rendition of Rodimus Prime to date, like Optimus it is just too cute and plain. After all, the Autobots were soldiers in a war for peace. The masterpiece figure looks like a robotic butler rather than a soldier. So I had to create my own rendition, So what I did was make a custom that didn’t move away from the original but mirrored the original at a larger scale with a lot more modern technology and better proportions. Pretty much my main goal was to create a g1 figure that was more g1 than the original, 80’s style, with 2011 technology and this is the solution I came up with. A Masterpiece Rodimus Prime."
The reds and oranges play really nicely off of each other and create that nostalgic look from the cartoon that was so awe inspiring on the big screen. Some other modification include a Diecast chest with matrix storage room in robot mode, a transforming trailer attaches and detaches with ease, and articulation overload, including head on ball joint, articulated hands, arms and legs. This is a fantastic figure that sure brings back memories! If you want to see more photos or purchase this figure, head over to eBay and check out this great Custom Transformers G1 Movie MP Rodimus Prime figure.

Custom Deadpool and Transforming Exo-Suit by Frenzy.Rumble
I am a huge fan of crossovers and the blending of worlds that were not meant to be together. Imagining a world where Transformers and the Marvel universes collide, Frenzy.Rumble has created a one of a kind concept with his Custom Deadpool with a Transforming Exo-Suit. The Transforming mech suit that Deadpool controls is a machine of destruction that is ready for action. The Exo-Suit has a massive amount of articulation and a gaggle of weapons The suit sports two magnetically held guns on the backs of his forearms. Like Frenzy.Rumble said, " If Deadpool's going to go big, he's gonna go big with some style." What mercenary doesn't need a killer ride? If you want to check out more detailed photos over his auction page, head over to eBay and view his Custom Deadpool with a Transforming Exo-Suit.
Megatron and Igor Transformers Dark of the Moon Custom by Andy Hibbs
You have to admit, Megatron as gotten the short end of the stick in all of the Transformers movies. After being resurected from his frozen tomb, he got his Deception tail kicked and dumped in the Laurentian Abyss in the first movie, he is scrapped together with random parts in the 2nd movie, and then contracts some machine eating virus in the 3rd movie.
That said, Andy Hibbs has captured the look and feel of the Leader of the Decepticons with his Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Megatron complete with his little lackey! Andy has created an Action Masters version, meaning that the figure does not transform but what is lost in the inability to convert the figure is definitely made up in the ingenuity and creativity of the custom. Using a combination of ROTF Leader Prime and ROTF Leader Megatron parts as well as many scratch built parts using styrene, this figure is movie accurate and amazing! If you look real closely, you will see Igor, Megatron's twisted little wretch, whoIgor hung around at Megatron's Decepticon refugee camp in Africa, where he was weird and crazy, eating the occasional minerals that Megatron gathered and brought back to him and the hatchlings. No detail was left out and he even captured the detail in Megatron's head where it seemed to be disintegrating right before your eyes. Andy has also made a killer video so check it out when you click over to view his Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Megatron figure.

The minibot from the 1980's we have known to grow and love has turned into a biggiebot thanks for FrogDNA and his Custom G1 Transformers Sea Spray figure. Recreating the classic blue and gold vehicle in a grand scale, the head sculpt is brand new, which makes him look like his classic character but with a beefier body. As he explains, "I used matt enamels to get that cartoony look and several screen shots from the cartoon to match the colors and details. I added several shades of a custom blue and yellow, for a deeper look, but keeping the G1 style. All the details were handpainted, it also has several washes to bring out the details and it was finally clear coated with dullcote lacquer, for protection and a nice matt look." Shockwave Custom Leader Class Transformers Dark of the Moon Figure by jacerc130 and Encline Designs
Combining forces to create this Custom Leader Class Transformers Shockwave DOTM figure, jacerc130 and Encline Designs display their unique talents. Kitbashing and sculpting various parts of the this figure, jacerc130 has transformed one of the iconic figures in the Transformers universe into a towering giant. One of my favorite parts of this custom is the large gun, which seems to have tentacles growing into it. This gives the gun a living breathing persona to it, which makes you wonder if it has a mind of its own. Topping the figure off with Shockwave's patented single eye and purple look, this figure possesses both the updated look from the movies as well as the classic feel of the 80's classic. Sealing this look is Encline Designs god given talent in paint application and design. To check out more photos of this Custom Leader Class Transformers Shockwave DOTM figure, head over to eBay!
Sky Lynx Transformers Masterpiece G1 Custom by GetRightRobot
To commemorate the space shuttle Enterprise's ride on top of a modified Boeing 747, I felt it was fitting to feature one of the coolest shuttle Transformers from 80's. Maintaining all 6 original modes (shuttle, tank, transport shuttle, lion, bird, and griffon), GetRightRobot (GRR) has created a masterpiece with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sky Lynx figure. This custom is a marvel in both design, form, and function. Adding 6 LED lights to the figure gives it an added dimension while the colors cast a magnificent array of custom mixed colors of flat white, Ferrari red, and brilliant blue. The scale is quite massive as well and putting regular sized Transformers next to Sky Lynx really highlights the difference. There is also a killer video but you will have to click over to GRR's auction page to view it so head over and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sky Lynx figure.
Devastator Custom Transformers Mighty Hercules Version by TB Productions
Using the Mighty Hercules version of the classic combiners, TB Productions has created a very cool rusted, metallic weathered Custom Transformers Devastator G1 combiner. Custom painted with different shades of green which reflect differently under different lighting, TB has captured the classic feel of Devastator with a rough and raw look. There are super detailed photos over on TB's auction page so head over there and check them out!
Omega Supreme Custom G1 Transformers Actionmaster Figure by Sculpt-Bot
"Unyielding resolve has no conqueror." Sculpt-Bot, creator of one of my favorite Custom Steampunk Jetfire figure, has scratch built one of the biggest Autobots with his Custom Actionmasters G1 Omega Supreme! Taking his custom handle seriously, he has taken styrene and "sculpted" 95% of this figure into a non transformable Actionmaster. Let's read more about it from Sculpt-Bot himself:
"He has 3 independent LEDs, one for each arm, and one in the head that lights the eyes, and the turret on the back of his head. All of the LEDs have a seperate battery compartment, so they can be changed if they run out. The canopy opens to reveal his face, and rotates backwards for a more streamlined look. He stands 2 feet tall at the tip of his wings, and is extremely poseable"
Using styrene gives the artist tremendous flexibility to create accurate renditions of figures from the past and looking at the G1 cartoon and Sculpt-Bot's Omega Supreme figure, he has created a two foot tall amazing sculpture of this massive defense base in robot mode. To check out more photos and to place a bid on this amazing work of art, head over to eBay and check out Sculpt-Bot's Custom Actionmasters G1 Omega Supreme!
Transformers Custom Classics Galvatron by MacrossFA-19
Ok...so there is something really cool about seeing the charred head of Unicron at the feet of MacrossFA-19's Custom Transformers Classics Galvatron figure. As we know from the Transformers movie, Rodimus rips the matrix of leadership from Galvatron's neck while Unicron explodes and his head floats off into space. Creating a custom "Triumph of Galvatron" figure stand, MacrossFA-19 presents an alternate universe where Galvatron is the sole survivor, standing over the obliterated carcass of Unicron. Adding articulation to the neck, giving the figure articulated hands, and scratch building the arm cannon really brings to the life the G1 look and feel we saw on the silver screen back in 1986. This custom ranks up there with one of the coolest looking dioramas I have seen. It just goes to show you that brilliance can come from the right pieces!
Burnimus Prime Transformers Custom Rodimus Figure by Darkcave Customs
Darkcave Customs brings us this Burnimus Prime Transformers Custom figure. Here are the figures and genius that went into this custom:
"Originally a piece intended for my personal collection, it is now available on eBay. Burnimus Prime is a repaint of both the Classics/Universe RTS Rodimus action figure as well as the Fans Project TFX-04 Protector. The original hands have been replaced by 1/100 Gundam hands. His metal applications were made using Chrome for a nice metallic high shine finish. His armory includes the factory issued missile launcher as well as 2 additional weapons: A chrome plated Master Blade, A swap-in Long Range Ion Rifle Barrel, Magnetic connections for handles on both weapons."
For a character called Burnimus, I thought that the figure would take on more of a flaming or scorching scheme but the figure looks amazing in the ice blue that engulfs it. Replacing the hands with fists from the Gundam universe allows the figure to hold the killer weapons that were designed for it. The figure also looks great in vehicle mode as well!
Midwarp Skywarp Custom Transformers Masterpiece Figure by Wilestbilame
Building upon the little known fact that Skywarp can warp to and from places in the blink of an eye, Wilestbilame brings us his version of this seeker jet bending space and time with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Midwarp Skywarp figure. Inspired by the customizer Frenzy.Rumble, this figure was created using the clear masterpiece mold while adding his own personal touch to the figure by painting the figure in an electric blue. It is this technique that gives the figure the illusion that it is ripping through worlds faster than the speed of light. To hear more about this figure, let's read more from Wilestbilame himself:
"Skywarp has always been an iconic transformer to me, while he retains the exact same appearance as starscream and thundercracker, it is the fact that he was given a unique personality and abilities that really made him a seeker all his own, amongst this was the very little known fact that skywarp has the ability to "warp" between spaces in the blink of an eye, giving him a strategic advantage in battle, if only he knew what to do with it! LOL, well keeping this notion in mind and inspired by a prior custom piece made by FR, I created this skywarp using the clear masterpiece mold, I took advantage of the clear areas while solidifying others in a way not just depicting him being in the middle of manifesting his warping ability but also in a more dynamic aspect, as if he were ripping through the fabric of space and time itself!! for this he was custom painted with the highest quality automotive grade lacquer paint available, his warping ray was Handpainted with several shades of blue to achieve a truly awesome electrical effect between his solid to clear areas for a more believable transition."
The overall electricity effect is what attracted me to this figure. The blending of the clear pieces along with the crackling electric blue ripples throughout the figure complete the look and transformation of a normal looking Masterpiece Skywarp figure into this amazing Custom Transformers Masterpiece Midwarp Skywarp figure.
Shockwave Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Figure and Diorama by Scotheking
The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine where an explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe. It is widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster). Scottheking has incorporated this event as a diorama with his Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Shockwave figure like the movie did! With an awesome paint job and a custom cast head, this figure looks like it is right out of the movie, especially when it is posed in the diorama. The diorama was cast from scratch, giving it a realistic effect as Shockwave blasted through it. To see more photos of this killer Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Shockwave figure and diorama, head over to eBay!
Unicron Cartoon Style Custom Transformers Figure by FrogDNA
Going for the most cartoon accurate representation of the planet gobbling planet (I guess that would make Unicron a cannibal), FrogDNA has created this amazing Custom Transformers Cartoon Style Unicron figure. If you remember back to the cartoon, Unicron's colors are very basic given the large representation of grays and oranges, which FrogDNA has replicated very nicely. He even went as far to mix his own custom orange to get as accurate as possible. Removing the teeth from the chest, which was a suggestion from another customizer, Frenzy.Rumble, it helped to retain the overall look and feel from the cartoon. Using sculpting techniques and creating a custom mouth, this is the most realistic looking figure I have seen in a long time. The figure looks more impressive in planet mode!
Shockwave Leader Class Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Figure by ForgottonForest
In the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie, the presence of Shockwave was not only seen but was also felt through the rumblings of earth and the twisted metal that made this character one of the coolest Decepticons on the silver screen. Hasbro only gave Shockwave a Voyager Class figure mold but ForgottonForest has given this beast the leader class treatment he deserves with his Custom Transformers DOTM Leader Class Shockwave figure. Let's read how ForgettenForest made this great figure:
"This custom made Leader Class dark of the moon Shockwave stands at an impressive 11.5 inches tall and is designed to fit perfectly with all other leader class figures. He has been scratch built to be as acurate to the Josh Nizzi concept art and official movie CGI renders as possible. i took great care to build this custom with a sense of power and strength to acurately mirror his appearance in the film in addition to ensuring his menacing and evil aspects were also represented. I wanted Shockwave to be in keeping with the beautiful DMK-01 model kit so i really went overboard on the details, with cybertronion tattoos etched into his gun and sword as well as cables and lots of mechanical details that are hidden all over this design. Shockwave is not just a base figure with extra bits glued on, he is absolutely unique as well as being very beefy and heavy."
I really like many aspects of the design of this figure. The metallic look and feel of the figure is bold, giving Shockwave the menacing feeling he had in the movie. There are many detailed photos to view over at his auction page so head over to eBay and check out Forgotten Forest's Custom Transformers DOTM Leader Class Shockwave figure.
Ultimate Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Figure by TFMAKER
TFMAKER's Custom Transformers Ultimate Optimus Prime is locked, loaded, and ready for action! Redesigned based on Frenzy.Rumble's design and using three different Prime figures (Jetwing optimus prime , Ulitmate optimus Prime, and 2007 Leader class Optimus Prime) to complete this project, I would say the whole is greater than the sum of its parts! The paint app techniqued used for the canons and wings give the plastic a metallic look and feel. There are very subtle effects, like adding a carbon like texture to the end of the gun barrels to give it them a freshly fired look! The wing system has that same look (see below).
Isolating the figure by itself reveals just how much effort was put into every detail on Optimus Prime's frame. The colors on the figure really pop and again give that metallic feel. TFMAKER's Custom Transformers Ultimate Optimus Prime is available on eBay right now and you can see so many detailed pictures so head over there and check it out!
Soundwave Transformers Prime Custom Figure by Jicco
Combing the best of the animated world and continuing the Transformers story line, the Prime series continues to pump out great canvases for customizers. I have to tip my hat to Hasbro for making the Soundwave's alternate form a Drone as this is perfect mesh of today's technology while still keeping the original concept of Soundwave true. I am also tipping my hat to Jicco's Customs with his repainted and redesigned Custom Transformers Prime Soundwave figure. The smallest aspects of the custom can really change the look and feel of the figure. One of my favorite parts of this custom is the wave that is running across the face of the figure. That small jagged lime green line adds a ton of personality and brings the figure to life. I also really like the paint app technique as it gives the figure depth and makes it more interesting. To see more photos, head over to eBay and check out Jicco's Custom Transformers Prime Soundwave figure.
Leader Class Optimus Prime and Megatron Forest Battle Diorama by Encline Designs
One of the pivotal scenes in the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movie was the epic battle in the forest between the forces of good and evil! Megatron and Optimus Prime were engaged in a fierce entanglement and Encline Designs has captured the moment where the great leader of the Autobots lost his spark with his Custom Leader Class Megatron and Optimus Prime diorama. Encline Designs is at the top of my list as one of the best customizers out there and his diorama really captures the somber mood and climax of Optimus Prime as he clings to life's last moments before he goes dark. It looks like this dio might have been a commission piece that someone is selling so lucky for you!
Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sunstorm by Wilestbilame
Looks like Wilestbilame's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure flew too close to the sun and with a temperature of 15.7 million kelvin that type of heat is sure to do some damage to your system! The first time I saw this type of 3D effect on a repainted and custom Starscream was on Frenzy Rumble's version that he made a little over one year ago. The melted effect that is applied to the wings gives Sunstorm his personality and helps to achieve a really cool 3D effect that not many customizers are doing. He also changed up the shape of the wing, which I will let him tell you about:
"Sunstorm was also heavily modified his wings into a new batwing like shape to give him a more menacing look and his side fins were permanently attached to his now modified hips for a better look that sets him apart from his seeker brethrenhe was detailed by hand to bring out the detail on panel lines in his body and circuitry details and was also applied with a subtle flame camo on his body that might not be so apparent in the pictures, then again it wouldn't be camo if it wasn't subtle! lol."
For more photos and to place a bid on this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure, you know where to go!
Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Megatron 1:16 Truck Replica by AndyHibbsCustoms
When I first saw Andy Hibbs' Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica, I thought I was looking at the real deal from the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie. This is a very different Transformers custom than people may be used to as the figure does not change into robot mode but the extreme amount of detail, raw material, blood, sweat, and time that was put into this 1:16 scale makes up for it. This is the best replica of the Tanker Truck I have seen to date. Spending 7 weeks working on this custom, the detail that was put into every inch of this replica really shines through when you when you look closely at the vehicle:

The front grill, with the protruding spikes, the chain, and the grill bring out the realism of the piece

The rusting technique makes it look like the vehicle did in the movie where Megatron was literally falling apart and melting away
Andy also made a very cool video showing off his amazing Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica so go head over to eBay and check it out!
Swoop Custom Transformers G1 Cartoon Style Masterpiece Figure by Wilestbilame
Combining efforts from two other customers, Wilestbilame makes his childhood dream of creating a Dinobot a reality with his Custom Transformers G1 Cartoon Style Masterpiece Swoop figure. Using a custom cast kit from Sculpbot, hands designed by Fakebuster, and the ingenuity of Wilestbilame, this Custom Swoop achieved the look and feel that was inspired the G1 cartoon! The shading of the figure sealed the deal for me! Every now and then, customizers provide us with their inspiration for creating these great pieces so let's see what he has to say:
"Ever since I was a kid I always loved the dinobots, and apart from Grimlock I always had admiration for Swoop the truly awesome pterodactyl Transformer that really knew how to be as savage as his Dinobot leader. Sadly we never got a proper update to this legendary bot nor classics or MP, but thanks to master sculptor and customizer Sculptbot, Swoop has now become an awesome reality!! Utilizing a custom casted kit by Sculptbot I combined it to upgrade another transformer into a full fledged Masterpiece swoop and I figured I would bring him into the masterpiece line with a closer to the cartoon appearance than previous toys done a in the past. He features super articulated individual finger seeker hands(special thanks to Fakebusker for designing them), ball joint head, articulated dino head and jaw, wings fold via swivel for easy transition from dino mode to bot mode and for flapping his wings I guess LOL, embossed autobot symbol on dino head. I painted the sword to look as if it were lit up all the time and heating up, I wanted to bring back the glory days of generation 1 by recreating this masterpiece with his Cartoon colors, one of the things. I always loved about the cartoon and comic was that"shine effect" they were drawn with on their windshields and shading on their bodies, sort of as if the metal and glass had it's own shine in cartoon style, so I replicated that effect through a modern method known as "cell shading" and panel lining across his body to bring out a true cartoon style adding a more dynamic color scheme far beyond the simple repaint. Swoop was carefully sanded and cleaned prior to painting, after which he was airbrushed with super high quality automotive grade lacquers and slightly detailed with high quality acrylics, and sealed with UV resistant matte finish to preserve his colors for years to come!"
Tripticon Transformers Custom Supreme Class Figure by TB Productions & Xaviercal
Call them the dynamic duo! From the fascinating, colorful and throbbing city of Bangkok, Thailand to the roaring shores and sun bleached state of California, TB Productions and Xaviercal have teamed up once again to bring you this Supreme Class Custom Transformers Tripticon figure. Working on the custom detailing, Xaviercal added new, detailed arms, extended the legs, added much needed articulation. Adding the Accented with purple, turquoise, gold, silver, and yellow, and his signature shading, TB productions had a great canvas to work with and the finished product looks fantastic. I have said this before but when customizers team up, they can make some really great figures come to life and this Supreme Class Custom Transformers Tripticon figure is another example of putting two great minds together to produce something fans will go nuts over!
TFC Hercules Devastator Custom G1 Transformers Combiner by Xaviercal
Hot off the heals of his Custom Shattered Glass Devastator comes Xaviercal's TFC Hercules Custom Transformers Devastator in a Generation One color scheme. Using the 3rd Party Transformer as the base for the figure, the classic nature of the G1 yellow-green paint app really shines through. One welcome addition to the color palette is the use of purple on various parts of the individual figures. For example, on Mixmaster's cement mixer and Bonecrusher's bulldozer front end. The addition of the color purple help to break of the overbearing green that the typical Devastator radiates. In addition to the awesome paint app, Xaviercal has also created a G1 inspired gun for his Custom Transformers Devastator so head over to eBay to take a peak at this homage one of the greatest combiners!
Galvatron Cyclonus Scourge Custom G1 Transformers Figures by FrogDNA
Call it the trifecta of the post Megatron Transformers universe where Unicron's spawn's rose up from the twisted metal from the heated battle of Cybertron. FrogDNA has created custom cartoon G1 versions of Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge, which is a first in his customizing career. One of FrogDNA's strengths is getting that cartoon look and feel just right. The way that he paints the figures and shades them bring out every detail. Due to the fact that Galvatron was kitbashed and, in his own words, "some kind of Frankenstein," the alternate mode was sacrificed to make the robot mode as close to the cartoon as possible. I am cool with that given that the finished product looks amazing.
Omega Supreme Custom Transformers Supreme Class Figure by Decepti-Punk
In the G1 Transformers cartoon, it appears that Omega Supreme is the largest Transformer. Decepti-Punk has made this a reality with his Custom Transformers Supreme Class Omega Supreme figure. Standing a towering 20" tall, this figure is one behemoth of a custom. Not only one, but two Energon Omega Supreme's and one G1 Omega were used to make this fully transformable figure, which is a feet in an of itself. Usually, when you build figures this tall, some customizers sacrifice the transformability of the figure, usually called an Action Masters, but Decepti-Punk used his skill to create a massive battle station. Keeping with Omega's G1 color scheme, this figure is one of the best Omega Supreme figure's I have seen to date.
Megatron Transformers Prime Custom Figure by Zildjian
With the release of the Transformers Prime figures, customizers now have a new canvas and outlet for their creativity. This week, Zildjian focuses his efforts on creating the best Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure he could! First, the paint style and application are stunning. The carbon scroing look that he gave the figure is lightyears beyond what the toy company's can mass produce. Here is a close up look at the brush strokes that were used to create this cool effect. If you look at the before shot of the figure (on the right), you will see a very drab and boring color scheme. Contrast that with Zildjian's Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure (on the left) and you can see the world of difference. If the paint app wasn't enough to make you buy this one, he also wired the figure with purple and red LED's to give the give that extra something special.

Shattered Glass Devastator Custom Transformers Combiner by Xaviercal
The Shattered Glass concept is the mirrored universe where the bad guys are good, the good guys are bad, and everyone has different paint schemes. Xaviercal, using the TFC Toys Hercules set, has added another character to this bizarro world with his Custom Shattered Glass Devestator combiner. The original G1 Devastator had a lovely lime green color scheme. Contrast this with Xaviercal's red and white paint app with red Decepticon symbols and you have a recipe for some Shattered Glass greatness. The red and white scheme is traditionally an Autobot flavor, which makes this custom work so well. So well, in fact, that it is based off of the Shattered Glass comic version. To view more photos, head over to eBay and check out Xaviercal's Custom Shattered Glass Devestator combiner.
Defensor Custom Transformers Generation 1 Combiner by JCartwork
Customizing is an artwork! Customizers, like JCartwork, pour countless hours into projects hoping to achieve and build products that fans will go crazy over. This Custom Transformers G1 Defensor is a great example how perseverance and determination can transform several off the shelf toys into grand masterpiece of a combiner we knew and loved as kids. The figure stands between 20" and 21" tall and has over 20 points of articulation, something the toys from the 80's were lacking. Sometimes customizers share how much effort goes into thier work so here to tell us about it is JCartwork:
"Its been a while since I have any new kitbashes online to share .Recently I have decided to complete my long waited combiner Defensor which I have been working on for almost a year plus, on and off .Its a very anticipated project which I wanted to complete for a long time. Remember the first Defensor which FR and Ryan Uybengkee did it was really mind blowing experience seeing how talented these guys have injected life to those plastic not to mention other talented kitbashers as well which I have missed . I was really inspired and decided to build mine version of Defensor as well . The progress of making this kitbash is painstaking .I have changed serveral joints inorder to make it strong when combined . Took me alot of time doing research and keep on improving until its fixed . I have used the best quality lacqer ,enamel and acrylic paint ,so it can withstand any weather condition . And I have also created decal to make it more G1 accurate .Its the most time consuming and anticipated project I have ever done."
One aspect I am impressed by is the construction of the figure and how this figure resembles the vintage Defensor with an updated kick! The old Defensor was too blocky for my tastes (that did not stop me from buying him) and JCartwork has really gone above and beyond with his Custom Transformers G1 Defensor combiner.
Xovergen Grand Patriot Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure by Captain Cosmic
Using the unique Xovergen Grand Patriot figure, Captain Cosmic creates a highly detailed G1 version of the Leader of the Autobots with his Custom Transformers Optimus Prime figure. The Grand Patriot cast is a very futuristic or Cybertronian style of the Optimus Prime. It goes without saying but the paint app on this figure blends the right amount of weathering and gloss for a war torn, battle hardened look. In addition to the recoloring of the figure, Captain Cosmic has also cast some additional weapons and heads that make this figure even better. Adding Battle Blades that fit into the fuel tanks pay homage to Prime's onscreen movie styling while creating multiple heads adds to the display factor of the figure. In order to ease the pain of swapping heads, they come packed with magnets so you can easily interchange the heads. A ton of work went into this figure so head over to eBay and check out the other photos of Captain Cosmic's Custom Transformers Optimus Prime figure.
Metroplex Custom G1 Transformers Supreme Class by TB-Production & XavierCal
Standing at an impressive 15" tall, TB-Production & XavierCal team up to give you this Metroplex Custom G1 Transformers Supreme Class figure. I love when customizers put their heads together because you are guaranteed a superb figure when it is all said and done. The construction of the figure was done by Xaviercal and he has done a fantastic job at placing articulation where needed and replicating and scaling the large parts needed to pull off a Metroplex custom. The arms and mid torso are my favorite parts of this custom. TB-Productions put on the finishing touches to this great piece by applying multiple shades of white and gray overall and black and gray to achieve a steel like effect. This is one of the best Metroplex customs I have seen to date so if you want to see more, head over to eBay and check out TB-Productions and Xaviercal's Metroplex Custom G1 Transformers Supreme Class figure today!
Reflector Custom G1 Transformers Figures by Colosal Customs
Reflector was an interesting concept and only available via mail away in 1986. If you were lucky enough to save up for points and a nominal fee, you could get your hot little hands on this G1 great. Colosal Customs has paid homage to this Decepticon spy machine with his Custom G1 Transformers Reflector figures. By combining a G1 color scheme fused by a cartoon look and feel, you get an updated style while retaining the classic nature that made these figures great. The original G1 figures all looked different and this custom makes all of the figures look very similar, which is a great concept! I like the continuity that comes with the figures looking the same as the trio act more like triplets than separate robots. I also like the way that the barrel of the camera can be used as either a spy device or a canon (your imagination may vary). To get a closer look at this trio, head over to eBay and check out Colosal Customs Custom G1 Transformers Reflector figures.
Perceptor Custom Transformers Commemorative Titan Class by Area Nifty-One
Perceptor was one of those interesting figures from the 80's. It was not a plane, car, or other cool vehicle. It was a microscope and for some reason, the figure really appealed to me as a child and thanks to Area Nifty-One, he has paid a grand homage to the Autobot scientist with his Custom Transformers Commemorative Titan Class Perceptor figure. Starting off as a Supreme Class Cyberton Metroplex figure, Area Nifty-One received his inspiration from the 25th anniversary re-release of Perceptor. The Metroplex base figure is a fantastic figure to use as the alternate mode looks like a mobile laboratory where the Autobots can analyze any data the Decepticons throw their way. In keeping with the classic nature of the figure, the colors that were used stay true to the original as the reds, blues, and silvers complete the overall look and feel of the figure. To check out more detailed photos, head over to eBay and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Commemorative Titan Class Perceptor figure.
Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Defensor by Nomad Customs
I will always have a place in my heart for the combiners of the 80's. From Devestator to Defensor, the Transformers had the market cornered on a toy line that was a huge hit on television and an even bigger hit on the playground. Nomad Customs has captured this feeling with his Custom Transformers Denfensor combiner and has done it on a much grander scale. Standing a towering 19" tall, this figure can break down into the five Protectobots. This is how the combiners should have been made many moons ago but thanks to customizers like Nomad, the figures are made bolder, badder, and bigger!
Custom Masterpiece Grimlock in G1 Cartoon Comic Style by Wilestbilame
This goes without saying (but I will say it anyway!) that there are differing styles and color pallets depending on the medium which you choose to consume your Transformers addiction. If you are a fan of the G1 television show from the 80's or if you primarily read comics, you will notice stark differences in the styling and features of your favorite characters. That said, Wilestbilame has taken one of the coolest Masterpiece figures and gave it a comic color makeover with his Custom Transformers G1 Comic Color Masterpiece Grimlock figure. The blue, red, and gold colors are so vibrant, really bringing the comic character to life. I always love a great back story on why customers choose to make the figures they do so here to tell us about it is Wilestbilame himself:
"Ever since I was a kid I always loved Grimlock, especially the Marvel comics version, giving Grimlock a more cold, savage and strategical personality to the character as the true king of the dinobots, so since the style I've been using being cartoon style, at times some have dubbed it as more comic inspired than cartoon, I figured it would make sense to bring the comic grimlock into the masterpiece line with a closer to the comics appearance than the MP-08x that came out a few years back, he features one of the coolest gimmicks ever, COLOR CHANGING Blue to Red and Back LED Eyes for both Dino mode and bot mode, with easy access to batteries for easy switching. Special thanks go to fellow Floridian Customizer and Tfw2005 member Big Hank for his masterful LED Work!! I gave him a high contrast cel shading with dark tones of grey, yellow red and of course his comic exclusive blue paint apps, detailed the bolts on his grey areas with a lighter tone of grey for a subtle but welcome contrast and although I kept the light up feature on his arm I painted the sword to look as if it were lit up all the time which dims the light up feature but I think this looks better for the style, I didn't paint the crown of leadership simply because I like it's blingin aspect that gives a good contrast to the cartoon look. I wanted to bring back the glory days of generation 1 by recreating this masterpiece with his Comic colors, one of the things I always loved about the cartoon and comic was that"shine effect" they were drawn with on their windshields and shading on their bodies, sort of as if the metal and glass had it's own shine in cartoon style, so I replicated that effect through a modern method known as "cell shading" and panel lining across his body to bring out a true cartoon style adding a more dynamic color scheme far beyond the simple repaint. Optimus was carefully sanded and cleaned prior to painting, after which he was airbrushed with super high quality automotive grade lacquers and slightly detailed with high quality acrylics, and sealed with UV resistant matte inish to preserve his colors for years to come!"
To view more photos or if you are a fan of this work, head over to eBay and check out this fantastic Custom Transformers G1 Comic Color Masterpiece Grimlock figure.
Custom G1 Transformers Dinobots 5 Figure Set by GetRightRobot
The first of its kind featured on AFC is GetRightRobot's Custom G1 Transformers Dinobot 5 Figure Box Set. Fresh for 2012 are the Dinobots reimagined in their G1 colors in a totally unique 5 bot box set. Customizing the Dinobots in their rare earth mode, this set captures the feel of the dinobots in a task force dubed "Dynamic Infiltration of Non-Biological Operations." In robot form, the figures take on the appearance of the Dinobots but in alternate form, they are hidden in plain site as a force to be recon with. The box art on the set is all original and it is a very cool concept to release a "convention" style exclusive. This set goes above and beyond my expectations and is truly a one of a kind set:
"This set comes in a convention styled, telescopic box that is 20"x10"x5" and features original artwork. The box is extremely sturdy and has 4 1/2" soft foam cut to hold each figure. Included in the box are all five Dinobots, Swoop, Snarl, Slag, Sludge and Grimlock in their short lived Earth modes. A comic strip (also original artwork) included with this set tells the story of why the Dinobots adopted Earth modes to begin with. Each figure is painstakingly painted and comes with guns/missile launchers and swords!"
I have heard from GetRightRobot that this set has attracted a ton of attention and rightfully so! To view more detailed photos of each figure, head over to eBay and check out GetRightRobot's Custom G1 Transformers Dinobot 5 Figure Box Set.
Custom Transformers Movie Classics Black Zarak G1 Colors by Shinobitron
I have always been attracted to Shinobitron's unique styling and artistic prowess when creating customs. So much, in fact, that I have been writing about his customs for almost 4 years! His latest Custom Transformers Movie G1 Black Zarak figure combines the classic colors with an update movie look and feel. Using the Transformers Movie Scorponok as the base figure, he has created a triple changer as this Zarak can transform into a Robot, Scorpion, and a Cybertronian Osprey Helicopter mode. Shinobitron is always thinking of creative ways to make his figures better and better. My only gripe with the original G1 Black Zarak is that the figure is too chunky and stalky but Shinobitron's version gives the figure a more royal look and the body is proportionate in all the right places. To see more photos of this figure in his alternate modes, head over to eBay and check out this Custom Transformers Movie G1 Black Zarak figure.
DA 28 Striker Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure by Koof LED
A first in AFC history, Koof LED has captured my attention and has not even laid a paint brush to his DA 28 Striker Optimus Prime Custom Transformers figure. You read that right, no paint has been applied to this figure! Instead, his talent lies in wiring LED lights all throughout the figure to create the cool effects you see in the photos. Here is a rundown of the LED modifications:
-
Led fiber optic roof lights
-
Led waist lights
-
Blue led eye
-
Dedicated switch located beside the engine sound activation switch
-
Lights gimmick link to the inner circuit, so lights gimmick activated when he speak
-
Shield with white and blue led
-
Headlights in vehicle mode
The figure looks pretty intimidating in vehicle mode. LED's can easily be overdone (especially if you know what you are doing) but Koof LED's work puts the lights in all of the right places.
Sunstorm Custom Transformers P-38 Voyager Class Figure by Lek
Highbrow takes on an entirely different look as Lek uses this P-38 to create a Custom Transformers Sunstorm figure that looks like it is taking to the skies fire! Using florescent paints and applying them to make it look like the vintage World War 2 plane is engulfed in flames, the figure takes on a great look that is a deviation from the usual Sunstorms that cross my path. The flame effects are not overdone, which takes restraint as some tend to go overboard with this kind of technique but the flames are in the right place and are believable. Looking at the figure in color takes on a totally different dimension.
The flames look even better in living color and they appear to be sculpted on as opposed to just painted on. This gives them a 3D effect that looks stellar when the lights are on. I have a soft spot for World War 2 planes and I applaud Lek for thinking outside the box on this one and not just doing a Starscream repaint. To take a look at the robot mode of the figure, head over to eBay and check out this amazing Custom Transformers Sunstorm figure.

Custom Transformers Beast Wars Optimus Primal by Frenzy.Rumble
Harkening back to the animal instinct that is deep within all of us, Frenzy.Rumble ventures into the realm of the beast with this unique Custom Transformers Beast Wars Optimus Primal figure. Formerly a commissioned custom, Frenzy.Rumble is making this figure available to anyone who will find a great home for this figure. He has the unique ability to transform mediocre figures into epic creations and this Optimus Primal is no exception. The figure has two very distinct looks and there is no question that Optimus is a living, breathing machine when he is in robot mode. By hand sculpting the fur on the shoulders, head, back, and arms, it gives the illusion of flowing hair, making the alternate version of this figure very believable. Menasor Custom Transformers Classics Combiner by ThyVipera
After enjoying some rest and relaxation from a nice long vacation, I am back in action and this week I am a sucker for the G1 combiner homages and ThyVipera has created this amazing Custom G1 Transformers Menasor combiner to feast your eyes on! Standing 16" tall, this Menasor captures the bulky and stalky nature of the original combiner of 80's but with added articulation, this figure does not suffer from the robotic like poses we were stuck with as kids. In some cases, customers have to sacrifice the ability of the figure to reduce down to the sum of its parts but not in this case! ThyVipera has created a true combiner that represents the classic nature of the Stunticons in true Generation 1 fashion!
Megatron Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Figure by ForgottenForest
Standing an impressive 11" tall and scratch built from the concept art from Josh Nizzi comes ForgottenForest's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron figure. this figure was designed with detail in mind with sculpted 3D rust effects, pistons that expand and contract, and lots of mechanical details that are hidden all over this design. The rust effects add a very cool effect on Megatron that mirrors his look in the movie, completing his decrepit and decomposing body he is trying so desperately to save. The pistons add realism and the addition of moving parts to a figure is always a plus. A special secret lies within his gun and to tell you more about this effect is ForgottenForrest himself:

"Megatron also comes with his shotgun which is movie acurate, his shotgun can be held in his hand or stored on his back, as an added feature i have made his gun to fold up and attach to his arm to mirror his gen one appearance."
I love the G1 effect as it is like and Easter Egg that only you (and the readers of this blog) will know! To view more photos of ForgottenForest's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron figure, head over to eBay!
Custom Transformers DOTM Leader Class Ultimate Jetwing Optimus Prime by JCArtwork
The addition of Optimus Prime's plethora of arsenal in the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie gave Prime the ability to fend off the Decepticons and Sentinal Prime in the battle to save eaeth and JCArtwork has captured this version of Prime in fanatastic detail and scale. This Custom Transformers DOTM Leader Class Ultimate Jetwing Optimus Prime captures the vision that movie portrayed in stunning scale and detail. The colors are so vibrant and they look like how they did on the big screen. In addition to the LED's that light up in the eyes, JCArtwork has also put LED's in the weapons as well, giving an energizing effect of powering on. If you are going to buy an Optimus Prime, this one would be the one to own! Combining the best of all Transformers movies into one super scale leader class figure is one of the best homages I have seen thus far to the great leader of the Autobots!
Custom Transformers Liokaiser Classics G1 Combiner by Forgotten Forest
Released only in Japan, Liokaiser is a unique and highly sought-after combiner and Forgotten Forest has recreated this figure in amazing detail with his Custom Transformers Liokaiser Combiner. Designed with a series of custom scratch built parts, including his hands, which are ball jointed at the wrist and on every finger, giving the figure the fine motor skills it deserves. Scratchbuilt hip and thigh parts and a custom scratch built head round out the amazing features of this classic combiner. He even comes with a cartoon G1 accurate re-creation of his spiked hand held weapon in addition to his main gun, which combines from Killbisons turret and Jarugas missile rack just like the G1 classic. The scale of this figure is massive and I wish that the original combiners were made this large. Check out the comparison photo standing behind the G1 Bruticus combiner:
Double Dealer Transformers Dark of the Moon Custom by Andy Hibbs
Inspiration the cornerstone of a great custom and Andy Hibbs' wanted to create a movie version of one of his favorite G1 characters with his Custom Dark of the Moon Double Dealer Powermaster figure. When I first saw this figure, I thought to myself how is he going to pull off making the humanoid Knok and the bat-like Skar forms but he did! Andy Hibbs explains:
"As a Powermaster with three forms, he is bonded to both the humanoid Knok and the bat-like Skar, who transform into engines to allow him to transform from his vehicle mode - a missile trailer - into two other modes. When Knok becomes his engine, he transforms into an Autobot robot, but with Skar in place, he becomes a Decepticon falcon. Armed with an intercontinental ballistic missilecapable of flattening a mountain and a solid-light blaster, Doubledealer uses both his modes to switch back and forth between factions, working for both and neither. Doubledealer is a backstabber extraordinaire – utterly ruthless and treacherous, he is valued by everyone, but trusted by no-one."
I really like the dessert camouflage paint app on the figure as the vehicle mode is a perfect canvas for it. Playing into the story of Double Dealer landing in a decommissioned Soviet scrap yard, the vehicle mode has Russian Stars on it, which goes very well with Double Dealer's persona. Like the Soviets in World War II, they played both sides (signing a non aggression pact with Hitler then joining forces with the allies when Hitler invaded Russia). History is often a great tie in to aspects that customizers choose to add to their works of art. If you want to get a look at the other forms of this figure, head over to eBay and place a bid on this awesome Custom Dark of the Moon Double Dealer Powermaster figure.

Custom Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime by Xaviercal
Completely repainted from head to toe, Xaviercal pays a nice homage to one of the most iconic figures in toy history with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime. Using metallic and base flat paint to achieve a look that this figure deserves, the reds and blues really stand out, which make it look it came right out the G1 cartoon. Not only does this amazing figure have the G1 feel that we all loved from the 80's, Xaviercal has also painted the trailer to resemble G1 color scheme.
Just looking at the figure in truck and trailer mode brings back that feeling I had as a kid when I saw the Transformers cartoon for the first time and Xaviercal's Custom Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime is the one to add to your collection if you want that feeling back in your life. Who knew plastic could be this therapeutic!
Shockwave Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Figure by Sabretooth’s Workshop
Rough, raw, edgy, and built for battle are ways to describe Sabretooth's Workshop's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Shockwave figure. A lot of the parts on the figure were scratch built as to enhance the figure to Leader Class status. The chest is markedly different and I like the protrusion of the rib caged like chest, which gives the figure depth and dimension. The head on the figure, also scratch built, pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 Shockwave figure. The squared off and angled head with the light up eye helps achieve this look. There is also a fusion of purple and metal that weaves itself into the battle worn paint job that Sabretooth has painstakingly detailed on the figure. To place a bid on this amazing figure, head over to eBay and check out Sabretooth's Workshop's Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Shockwave figure.
Custom Transformers Dark of the Moon Sentinal Prime by Dubz
Dubz has given the main antagonist in the Transformers Dark of the Moon film a much needed movie accurate makeover with his Custom Sentinal Prime figure. The fire engine cherry red paint finish looks amazing and is a huge improvement over the out of the box figure. There are other movie enhancements to the figure and sometimes, the small details really add up. For example, the figure has diamond plating on the rear of the firetruck, chrome rails, and reflective mirrors, which add to the realism. Other details that Dubz added to the figure to make it more accurate include spiked knuckles made from metal, diamond plating on the robot mode, copper piping running from the chest to his right arm, and extensive robot mode detailing painted to match the on-screen character. This is what customizing is about...taking a mediocre figure that is off the shelf and turning it into an amazing work of art that you would be proud to display on your shelf.
Shattered Glass Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure by LEK
You can feel the engeron and transformation of good to evil with LEK's Custom Shattered Glass Optimus Prime figure. The design of this figure is really well executed and thought out. The Shattered Glass effect is brought to life with the crackled paint effects on the hood and the cab, giving the figure a feeling of intimidation and power as this benevolent leader is turned into an evil overlord. Some really great additions were made to this figure, including a purple Autobot logo and a really cool gun that makes Optimus Prime look more like Megatron.
Leader Class Megatron Transformers Dark of the Moon Custom by Zildjian
What do you get when you cross a ROTF Optimus Prime, ROTF Megatron, TFTM Megatron, ROTF Human Alliance Sideswipe, numerous Zoid parts, and several McFarlane Cyber unit figures? You get the first Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron that stands 12 inches tall and looks like it was right from the movie! This is a great example of art imitating life where the Megatron in the movie was remade with a conglomerate of parts. Due to the nature of this figure, it does not Transform but that is a small price to pay when you have a highly detailed scratch built Transformers Dark of the Moon Leader Class Megatron to feast your eyes on. The detail in this figure is something to behold. Zildjian has brought out the rough, ruthless, and raw side of Megatron communicated through this amazing figure. The way the head was crafted gives the figure that battle damaged look from the movie that made Megatron a force to reckon with. Leader Class Shockwave Transformers Dark of the Moon Custom by Encline Designs
If you can't get something done the way you want it, do it yourself! That was Encline Designs inspiriation for this amazing Custom Transformers Leader Class Dark of the Moon Shockwave figure. This figure appears like a piece of digital art with the sharp edges and fine lines but looks can be deceiving as this is a scratch built figure made from a host of other Transformers figures. The protruding rib cage and leg armor give this figure an ominous 3D feel and the swivel and ball joints make this figure super poseable. Let's get a feel for how Encline Designs came up with the idea for this amazing figure:
"I have been hoping to see a huge DOTM Shockwave since the first time I saw laid my eyes on that awesome design. Shockwave have always been a favorite of mine. Seeing his movie design was perfect. He captures pure cold, calculating, and logical beast that he should be. I knew the only way to get one is to build it myself. Using a leader class Megatron, Optimus, and a bunch of random parts as a base to start with, I scratch built the body parts using styrene and a torch. Then finished it off with a sculpted head and unique paint job using many shades silvers and steel and then topped of with a slight purple pearl. He glows with great lighting! Standing at 10" tall, Shockwave is sure to make a unique and intimidating piece to your collection."
You can see from the photo above how the figures articulate, giving it the feel from the movie it deserves. This 10" figure must look amazing in person so if you want a chance to own this great work of art, head over to eBay and bid on Encline Design's Custom Transformers Leader Class Dark of the Moon Shockwave figure.
