Scratch Built Custom Transformers Movie Barricade Figure by TimShinn

Barricade Transformers Movie Custom 2007 movie

TimShinn has an awesome Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure up this week.  The aim of this work of art was to get close to the movie version and pick up the slack where Hasbro left off.  The hands are one of my favorite parts of this figure as they really capture the feel of the movie.  Imagine getting chased by this figure!  Here is TimShinn to tell you what went into this figure:

“Built over several months using a 1:25 scale Revell 2006 Mustang GT model kit and modified Bionicle parts for the skeleton into this articulated representation of the Barricade character from the 2007 Transformers movie. The model kit was cut up into over 200 pieces, cleaned, sanded and painted. The hands and head are mostly scratch built from sheet styrene and other found objects (Gundam bits, etc). 15 points of articulation. Stands at just under 9 inches tall. Hand painted and detailed. High quality custom decals were created by Reprolabels for this custom figure to duplicate the look of the movie character. 2 panels on the chest are removeable for access to the power switch and batteries for the working police lights.”

I alway love hearing how customizers build thier figures.  TimShinn’s listing has many pictures of the work in progress so you can see the different stages of this custom so check out his Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure up on eBay.

Blackout Transformers Movie Custom 2007 movie

Not happy with how the Transformers Movie figures turned out, timandashley2005 have redesigned and custom created this Transformers Movie Blackout figure to be accurate.  Although this Transformer is not transformable, he felt that the need to go above and beyond to create this great looking figure and the best part is that 10% of the proceeds from this auction go to help the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.  I think it is great that customizers deviate from the norm and make tradeoffs for the best of the custom and the fans.  Let’s read more about this great custom:

“You are looking at a custom leader class non-transformable Movie style Blackout. Blackout out was created out of a need to fill in my movie collection. He was painted in Citadel acrylics and made from scratch. The base of this figure is Leader class Megatron, arms cannons and other bitz came from other transformers and model kits. His left arm rotor is removable for display and shipping purposes. Blackouts face was hand sculpted.”

Manana109 pays homage to one of the most, in my opinion, undercustomized figures of the line with his Custom Transformers Leader Class Brawl figure.  I love the camo job as it is really detailed and the browns really stand out on the figure, giving it more definition.  If you want to see more photos, head over to eBay!

Optimus Prime Leader Class Transformers Custom 2007 movie

l.designs is not short on creativity this week and it shows with his Custom Road Warrior Optimus Prime crossover figure.  What a way to put a Voyager Class Prime to good use.  There are several aspects of this custom that are great.  In vehicle mode, he designed a custom cow pusher, which is used as a shield in robot mode.  There are also parts of the tanker that are used for his killer shoulder spikes.  Let’s read more about this great custom from l.designs himself:

Initially I was just planning on doing an all out G1 style repaint of this guy. Anyhow when I finished the matte black undercoat I saw the tanker from Road Warrior. After that I searched for a suitable tanker in the proper scale and everything. I went all out for the paint and weathering on this one. Made some custom scale barbed wire for the top (careful sharp) and scratch built the cowpusher that locks onto the grill. Just so happen that when I found the tanker it was the type to light up and has some great sound effects of a running truck to add to the fun.

Optimus Prime Transformers Custom 2007 movie

Creg is back in full force and has a movie accurate Custom Optimus Prime Leader Class figure to feast your eyes on.  Creg has really captured the personality of Optimus Prime and this shows in this custom.  Sculpting a new face for Prime, he was able to capture the concerned look of the Autobot leader, giving this figure his own persona that adds to the display capabilities of the figure.  To do this, he created two heads for this figure and added articulation in the form of ball jointed neck.  Don’t underestimate the tilt of a head to give the figure a new look as this also adds some human aspect to the figure and ability for it to change emotion with each tilt of the head:

Although Creg said that he has not made a Transformers custom in a while, you would never know it from this work of art so head over to eBay and see the vast photos of his awesome Custom Optimus Prime Leader Class figure.

Starscream Transformers Custom Movie Figure crefigz customizers

In the 2007 Transformers Movie, Starscream chooses and F-22 Raptor to disguise himself until the time is ready.  When he gets the call from Frenzy, he mobilizes and heads straight for the Hoover Dam to wreak havoc.  The introduction of Starscream in the movie was a high point for me (1) because I like military vehicles and (2) the movie did a great job in translating Starscream into a robot.  Crefigz has captured this same feeling with his Custom Transformers Movie Starscream figure with his unique painting technique and skill.  The realistic paint aps is what makes this figure awesome!  The weathering the carbon scoring that is applied to the figure is in all the right places.  Again, he makes the plastic look like metal that has been through a few battles.  To view more photos of the detail he puts into his figures, head over to eBay and check out Crefigz Custom Transformers Movie Starscream figure.

Optimus Prime Movie Custom Sabrina 2007 movie

Sabrina Ng has gone above and beyond with her latest homage to the great leader of the Autobots with her Custom Leader Class Optimus Prime with trailer.  This custom is jam packed with detail, as well as a uniquely designed MP-02 Trailer and a custom Battler Roller (remember that six wheeled little guy…yup…he is in there too!).  I love the way that Sabrina can turn plastic into metal and she has a great eye for the color palette.  Here to give us more detail is Sabrina herself:

“This figure is one the main reasons why I wanted to take up customizing initially. I’ve always wanted to do up a full repaint of the Movie Optimus Prime but it was too complex at first. The multiple layering of colours as well as flames made it a nightmare for most customizers. My G1 Prime enabled me to  understand the toy’s design better while I planned for a colour concept that would be unique to him. 6 months after my 1st custom, I belief that I’ve managed to recreate a Movie version of Optimus Prime that is truly aesthetically pleasing.  This auction includes Movie Optimus Prime, an MP-04 trailer, the MP-02 Commander Set, the TFC-EX002 Battle Roller as well as an extra weapon for Optimus Prime.  Optimus Prime was given many shades of colours that range from sunset yellow to orange, red and blue. Most of the colours blend smoothly into one another. He was also given a Mirror Chrome finish on certain parts of him. Do note that this is the Hasbro version of Optimus Prime. He does not initially have any Chrome parts unlike Takara’s Premium mold.  The MP-04 trailer was covered with styrene to emulate an actual truck better. Only the autobot logo from the original trailer remained. Flames that matched Optimus Prime were painted on the exterior and the internal compartment was dry brushed with silver and detailed accordingly. The upper, front and rear ends of the trailer were given a post and pre-shading treatment for a weathered look. The repair dock was painted in a metallic blue shade.  The Mp-02 Commander Set was repainted to match Optimus Prime’s colour scheme as the original colour was meant for Ultra Magnus.  The TFC-EX002 was given a chromy metallic blue finish as well as a pair of articulated fists that holds an additional weapon. His joints have been tighten for more stability as compared to the vanilla version.”

Head over to eBay and don’t miss this once and a lifetime opportunity to own one of Sabrina’s masterpieces so check out her Custom Leader Class Optimus Prime with trailer.

blackout custom transformers movie figure 300x224 2007 movie

I have to hand it Encline Designs for his latest in his series of Transformers Ultra Class figures.  His Custom Transformers Movie Blackout transcends any custom in this class this year.  This figure is the third in his lineup and I was happy to cover his other two earlier in the year, which were his Custom 15″ Optimus Prime and his Custom 13″ Bonecrusher figures.  Let’s take a look at some of the aspects that puts this figure in a class by itself.  First, the led lights in the figure make it unique and add another dimension to the figure, which replicates the way that Blackout was portrayed in the movie:

blackout custom transformers movie figure2 300x222 2007 movie

The huge chest cannon is massive and looks like it could cause massive damage.  Made from a mix of model helicopter parts and other figures, Blackout’s blades give the appearance of a mid-transformation where is then breaks out the huge canon and opens a can of whoopass on the base in Qatar.  I seriously was in awe watching the first live action Transformer come to life and Encline Designs has captured the true essence of the movie figure with his massive creation.  Here is what the figure looks like standing next to Megatron:

I never get tired of seeing customizers pay homage to the great leader of the Decepticons and jcartwork does an excellent job with his Custom Leader Class Transformers Movie Megatron figure.  The shadowing and black washing on this figure is amazing and his technique makes the plastic cast a battle scared metallic look.  The gold accents are in all the right places and add another dimension to the figure.  Let’s take a closer look at some of the fine detailing:

Custom Transformers Movie Accurate Ratchet by Sabrina Ng

ratchet transformers movie custom 300x195 2007 movie

I love the 2007 Transformers Movie but I was very disappointed with the quality of the toys that Hasbro produced.  It is customizers like Sabrina Ng that have brought the toys back to life and reinvigorated the toy line with accurate figures like her Custom Transformers Movie Ratchet figure.  I would call Sabrina’s paint aps bullet proof because they look so life and the metal shines like it is real.  Let’s get more insight on why Sabrina wanted to customize Ratchet:

“Ratchet’s something that I’ve longed dreamt of doing as I felt that the Hasbro/Takara molds do not do him justice at all. Even the Metallic/Best buy Ratchet was not even anywhere near droolsome. He was meticulously detailed and even his butterfly axe had the red patterns repainted. Ratchet was painted with a special paint mix of 80% yellow and 20% green. He was shaded and drybrushed, panel marked and had anti UV gloss smacked on to him. Well, that’s that. Always wanted to re-do Ratchet. And I’m really happy that I’ve finally done it!! And among all my customs, I dare say that these pictures do not do Ratchet any justice as he seriously looks twice as nice (at least in my opinion. hehe) as he is resting on my work desk right now. I’ve also  included 3 pictures of WIP in the slideshow to show how it looks like without the black background and lighting.”

If you want to bid on a high quality custom from one of the best customizers out there, head over to eBay and check out Sabrina Ng’s Custom Transformers Movie Ratchet figure.

Jazz Transformers Movie Custom Figure by Sabrina Ng

jazz transformers custom zoom zoom 300x156 2007 movie

Ever wonder what Jazz would look like if Jazz came across a different dealership and scanned a red Pontiac Solstace?  Sabrina Ng applied her signature painting technique to make a version of the Transformers Movie Jazz you will never find anywhere.  It is great to get into customizer’s heads so let’s learn more about this great figure:

“The last of my red customs (I think. hehe). Zoom Zoom!!!! I was inspired to take on this project when I realized that some Mazda cars on the road actually had the word Zoom Zoom written on them. He’s been given some extreme metallics as well as an additional head, recasted to pay tribute to his Binaltech inspiration. I’ve always been amazed by how Jazz can look so good in red (or any colours for that matter). Deluxe Premium Jazz was given a nice shade of red metallics to emulate Zoom Zoom. As always, I take great pains to clean the figure of any factory residue. He was primed and was given a base coat of supper black to bring out the strength of the metallics. He’s got approximately 7 layers of red and 3 layers of anti-UV gloss to keep him in great condition for the years to come.”

Bonecrusher Transformers Movie Custom 13″ Legends Style by EnclineDesigns

bonecrusher transformers movie custom 218x300 2007 movie

A month ago, EnclineDesigns created a Custom 15″ Transformers Movie Optimus Prime and this week he has his next installment of movie accurate customs with his Custom Bonecrusher figure that stands 13″ tall.  With a work of art like this, EnclineDesigns had to sacrifice the transforming function for this Decepticon legend, which is fine because if you look at the result, you will not want to transform this figure into a vehicle.  The detail on this figure is amazing and EnclineDesigns is the first, that I have seen, to pay homage to this great Decepticon warrior in the scale he deserves.  Let’s read more about how he created this behemoth:

“Thank you for checking out my second HUGE custom from TRANSFORMERS live action movie. This time around I bring you Bonecrusher in all his angry Autobot hating glory. I am not even sure at this point how many figures, models, stryrene sheets, clay, or live animals I used to make this. But it was a lot!!! I have tried to make him as movie accurate as possible. But of course with doing this, he does not transform. I did make his arms and shoulders with up, down, in, out joints. They are also able to extend out like the toy and other pictures but never did in the movie. Bonecrusher also has his Mega Claw with 13 points of articulation. The wheels on his feet do roll!!! He has been airbrushed with enamel paints for durability. Then I added all the little details with brushes. Please remember, this guy has been built with a collector in mind. PLease note he can be posed but in mainly for display. I will have a few special features coming up later this week, but let’s just say that he in battle damaged for a reason.”

Ironhide Transformers Movie G1 Custom by Sabrina Ng

ironhide g1 transformers custom 300x225 2007 movie

Those who grew up in the 1980’s remember Ironhide as a a red and orange minivan.  Sabrina Ng has taken the classic paint aps of the Generation 1 figure and fused it with the 2007 Transformers figure and you get her Custom Transformers Movie G1 Ironhide figure.  Airbrushed figures are some of the best painted customs I have seen and if you are lucky enough to come across a customizer who uses this technique, you are in a for an eye candy treat.  One aspect of the 2007 Movie Transformers that needed special attention was the look of the metal and steel and Sabrina has done an awesome job creating a realistic look of metal with her painting techniques.  To tell you more about this G1 Ironhide, here is Sabrina herself:

“A weapons specialist, a tough soldier and one of the oldest Autobots. My fondest memory of Movie Ironhide is when he wanted to blow the dog away with his canons for peeing at his legs :) This is a very special custom to me as I took some time experimenting in combining airbrush shading with dry brushing to bring out a more shadowed steel look. After my G1 Optimus Prime, I felt that Ironhide deserved a G1 makeover as well.  Ironhide was soaked, washed, cleaned and primed before painting. I made sure that the icky sticky factory finish did not interfere with my paint scheme. I applied three layers of shading combined with five shades of dry brushed silver. I gave him a very special metallic vermillion colour for his vehicle mode and topped it off with his G1 yellow stripe which is of a darker and more metallic variation of the typical sunset yellow. Various detailing were done but I was careful not to make Ironhide appear overly ‘colourful’. I ended this custom with several layers of anti UV gloss coat in order to protect and retain his vibrant colours for years to come.”

Bumblebee 1974 Camaro Transformers Movie Custom by Crefigz

bumblebee custom transformers movie 224x300 2007 movie

It seems like everything Crefigz touches, turn to gold and his Custom Transformers Movie Bumblebeeis no exception.  Putting Crefigz’s signature touch on this 1974 Camaro version, he has brought out the richness of color and detail in Bumblebee.  The original Hasbro produced figure pales in comparison and is really only used as the base model for this custom creation.  One aspect that I really love about this custom is that the great detail was paid to make this custom movie accurate, even down to the rust on the car mode.  Crefigz has a unique talent to make plastic look like metal but don’t take my word for it.  Here is how Crefigz explains his process:

“Took over ages to complete this one and it will be the unique one and only from Crefigz.
Airbrushed with the IMPROVED signature shading style by Crefigz.  Completed with worn out effects based on The Transformers Movie 2007.Different perspectives of view under high or low lightings show different tones of shadings done on most of the parts.  This figure is not only special in the shading, it also has a layer of coating that makes it look ultra realistic and protects the paints from wearing off.  The whole figure has been painted all over again to bring out the realistic feeling the moment you look at it.”

Megatron Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Figure by Boskoestoys

Tags: , , , , ,

megatron leader class custom 300x241 2007 movie

“Insanely detailed realistic-movie accurate paint job” is the only way to describe Boskoestoys latest masterpiece.  This Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatronranks on the top of my list as one of the best movie versions I have seen to date.  The paint aps are so accurate and applied in such a way that the figure looks like metal.  Check out all of the detail that went into this awesome Megatron:

“Next the Blue LED eyes- the biggest problem with movie Megs is that his eyes didn’t light up. We fixed the problem by installing a tiny blue LED system in his head. The whole light system is contained in the head and works on a push putton. Push it once and it goes on a pulse. push it again and it stobes, push it a third time and give Megatron a steady glowing blue gaze- finally push it a forth time to turn it off. The LED system runs on 4 small watch bateries, and they are replaceable infact we’ll include a spare set. The head mod doesn’t change up any of Megatrons transformation, and aestheticallty is very discret.  Claw fix- We fixed it so it shoots out when you push the button.  Fushion Cannon Fix- Removed the spring so you can just flip it open and it stays that way until you fold it back in.  Fairy wings- We didn’t remove them ’cause we like’em. If you win this custom but want them removed they’re as good as gone.”

I would highly suggest that you head over to eBay to check out all of the great pictures of Boskoestoys’ Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatron figure.

Transformers Movie Optimus Prime Custom 15″ Figure by Encline Designs

optimus prime transformers custom 300x199 2007 movie

Sometimes you have to sacrifice an aspect of a figure to make a truly amazing design.  Encline Designs did what needed to be done and created a work of art with his Custom 15″ Transformers Movie Optimus Primefigure.  To pay great homage to Optimus, he had to make a non transforming Transformer but the end result is unreal.  Scale is one aspect that Hasbro has grappled with ever since they started producing toys but it is customizers like this show them how the proper scale can really add a tremendous amount of value to the design.  Capturing the grit and mechanics of the movie, Encline Designs balances emotion with realism.  Let’s read more about what inspired this amazing figure:

Hello fellow Transfans and collectors. Have you found all your movie Primes lacking something? I thought Hasbro really broke some new ground with the Transformers movie toys. Leader Prime is great. But, he is lacking one thing. SIZE!!!!! Up for auction is my scratch built 15″ MOVIE OPTIMUS PRIME. He was scratch built and made from a number of figures, spare parts, and even styrene for parts I had to create. He does not transform. But, with out transforming, I was able to add a bit more to get the bot I wanted. I built him how I want him to be. He has various truck parts for body parts. I built him from the inside out. I airbrushed the truck body with a mix of red and copper pearl, then faded from back to front with a red candy. The blue is a mixture of blue, purple pearl, and silver. I then hand pinstriped the flames. I then did multiple brushing techniques for fine details. He has been painted with automotive paint and clear coated. I also added some damage and hieroglyphs to his face.He has about 30 points os articulation including his waist and chest. His head, shoulders, and wrists are on ball joints. One of my favorite shots in Transformers in after Prime rips the top off of the Sector 7 Escalade and we are looking up at Prime and you seethe silhouette with the headlights shinning. So, I installed a battery pack inside that runs off of 2 AAA batteries. The pack lights up the headlights, eyes, and yes, THE MATRIX OF LEADERSHIP!! This guy was built for a collector. I have taken great care in construction to make him safe to pose with careful adjustments.

As I said earlier, the scale of this figure is awesome so head over to eBay and check our more photos of this Custom 15″ Transformers Movie Optimus Prime figure!

Crefigz, in another one of his signature shading jobs, has created a Megatron that will make fans drool over.  This Custom Transformers 2008 Movie Megatronhas to make the execs over at Hasbro cringe when they see great work like this and it is a shame that they can’t make toys as good this but then again, customizing is an art form so I would not want them to make figures this good.  I still love a good Megatron and this is one of the best.  For more photos and to own this awesome piece, head over to eBay and place a bid for Crefigz’s Custom Transformers 2008 Movie Megatron or check out the other Custom Transformers while you are there.

Sabrina Ng has taken the Premium Leader Class Prime a step up and made it her own with her Custom Transformers Leader Class Movie Optimus Primefigure in Generation 1 style.  It is really great when customizers go back to the G1 roots.  The way this custom was painted gives it a metallic look that only a true artist can achieve.  The truck actually looks like it has rivets in it.  The color red is a very nice and richer than I have seen in most custom Prime’s but the color goes well with the figure.  Here is how Sabrina made this work of art:

“I’ve airbrushed, painted, dry brushed, weathered and highlighted the entire figure to be as realistic as possible!!! Well, let’s see. After washed and dry, I gave him a coat of primer followed by a base coat of steel and gold. Anyway, I then gave him a nice overall chrome silver coating as well as 2 layers of gloss coat before I started on his primary colours of specially mixed red and blue paint. MP-01 had a chilli red colour scheme but I felt that it was too common and doesn’t do this figure justice. Thus, I settled on a more intense shade of red and blue to give him a deeper character. Body parts were painted with a shade of silver and dry brushed for the steel effect. After all was done, I gave him another layer of gloss coat to seal in the paint before I started on doing some weathering and detailing for him. Before I ended the job, I gave him a glossy UV protection coat to prevent the colour from fading over the years. The end result, an ultimate work of art.”

Custom Protoform Optimus Prime Allspark Gold

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this figure was ‘royalty’ and Crefigz has dressed Optimus Prime in his finest with his Protoform Optimus Prime Allspark Gold Custom Transformers Movie figure.  The protoform mould is perfect for this kind of interpretation with Prime’s crown-like head, which is painted very well, bringing out the royal look of the figure.  The gold accents outlining figure also add to this effect.  This is one the most unique Protoform Prime customs I have come accross and you know when you buy from Crefigz, you are getting top quality!

Crefigz explains some of the back story that went into the thinking behind this unique Protoform Prime: “This Protoform Optimus Prime has went through evolution made by Crefigz. Got this inspiration after listening to the Transformers Movie 2007 : The Scores – “Arrival To Earth” and wanted to repaint something royal / kingly and it came out to be this so called Golden Prime son of Optimus Prime – The King Of Autobots. I have always been a fan of the Protoform figures but they were lacking something…a good paint scheme and Crefigz solves this issue with his Custom Transformers Movie Protoform Optimus Prime figure.  One of Crefigz’ strengths is his shading technique and he really goes to town on this figure.  The technique he uses gives the figure much depth and brings it to life.  The paint aps gives this figure a metallic look that was lacking in the original design.

Sonray Customs has found a great use for the Star Wars Transformers figures with his Custom Optimus Prime G1 ‘pre earth’ figure. What a great idea to take a Star Wars Transformers Commander Cody and turn it into a G1 legend, Optimus Prime. I like Sonray’s take on this figure as it pays a nice homage to Optimus Prime’s earth likeness and what he may have looked like rolling down the streets of Cybertron. The G1 colors are great and the pin striping on the sides and the silver pipes gives this figure a very distinct and familiar. Sonray describes more about how he made this great figure:

“Basically I saw this awful SWTF toy in a store and saw that despite all its design flaws it had some potential to make a pretty good looking, pre-earth G1 Optimus Prime. So i took it home and painted him up with high quality acrylics and enamels in a pure G1 style, added a Movie voyager Prime head, and attached on some old 20th Anni’ prime smokestacks i had saved. This is a great looking custom and very unique. Its fully poseable as you can tell by the pictures, and the paint is very durable.”

Jazz Custom Transformers Movie Figure by Sabrina Ng

Sabrina Ng is new to customizing but you would not know it from looking at her Custom Movie Tranformers Jazz figure. It is great to see emerging talent in the customizing world, especially with Transformers. With the Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen due out in 2009, I am expecting high quality and unique work from the customizers out there. What struck me about this figure is the rich silver color that she was able to create and the finish on the figure is one to behold. The detailing on the circuitry in robot mode is a very nice touch as well, which was lacking in much of the original toys produced by Hasbro. I will be keeping an eye on this up and coming customizer as she already possesses the skills to deliver what fans want and need! Here she is to explain more about her Custom Jazz:

“Tried to give him a more accurate colour scheme faithful to the movies. Buffed, polished and waxed to get a very smooth finish. Managed to get some weathering in as well in certain parts of the body. Also, rest assured that all the pictures taken are not doctored or edited in any way to give it a more than accurate representation.”

Through advances in CGI, Optimus Prime was able to exhibit emotion in the movie with various facial and mechanical expressions. To achieve emotion, the eyes and mouth are typically manipulated so that human emotions are mimicked, giving Optimus a persona that the 1980’s cartoon could never achieve. That is one thing to capture that emotion for a multi million dollar movie but it is equally as difficult to capture feelings through sculpting a toy. Not only does this figure have amazing detail, CREG captures the raw emotions of Optimus with two types of custom heads: one with a mouth guard and one without. The head without the guard, really does a great job at capturing various looks of Optimus and, depending what angle you look at him, the figure will appear to exibit different emotions.

Custom Stealth Starscream Transformers Movie Generation One Figure by Chih

Starscream Skywarp Custom1 765784 generation 1 transformersA stealth aircraft is an one that uses stealth technology to make it difficult to be detected by radar by employing a combination of features to reduce visibility in the visual, audio, infrared and radio frequency spectrum. Well known examples include the United States’ F-117 Nighthawk and the modern F-22 Raptor fighter, which was the vehicle mode of choice for Starscream in the 2007 Transformer Movie. The stealth bombers I am familiar with have a black deco, like the Custom Stealth Starscream figure by Chih!

Starscream Skywarp Custom2 765815 generation 1 transformersChih’s not only provides him with a stealthy paint job, but he also pays a nice homage to Skywarp, a Decepticon Seeker Jet that has a purple and black Generation 1 deco. The nose cone and the wing trim give this figure its signature G1 appeal and Chih even went as far as coloring the cockpit glass the classic yellow/gold that topped the 1980’s classic seeker jet. Megatron Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Figure by Chih

Tags: , , , , , ,

Megatron 757387 2007 movie Chih is heating up the Transformers category with his Custom Megatron Transformers Movie figure. I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not but I have seen a decrease in Transformers customs with the introduction of the Premium Series Transformers. I must say, the Premium Series is a slight improvement to the figure line but they do not hold a candle to the talent, craftsmanship, and artistic ability of the customizers out there and Chih ranks very high on my list of people that consitantly create quality pieces for the fans out there.

Megatron2 757421 2007 movie For toy companies, it would seem like a simple task: Create a figure that comes close to their movie likeness. I guess that was what they were trying to achieve with the Premium Series line but they have to realize that they need to up the quality of the figures if they are to compete. Fans are growing tired of repaints and poor quality figures and that is where customizers fill the gap. Chih’s Custom Megatron is a great example of Megatron was supposed to look. A very nice silver with bronze accents gives this figure that war torn battled look that the original toys were lacking. Chih’s Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatron figure is available on eBay so head over and place your bid now!

Barricade Custom Transformers Movie Figure by Jin Saotome

Barricade 784049 jin saotome customizers 2
The custom transformers section on eBay has been a bit quiet but Jin has woken it up with his Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure. Some of the things I really like about about Jin’s customs are his quest to make it accurate, his attention to detail, and the quality and craftsmanship is light years beyond most. For example, in this Barricade figure, he has added a ball joint to the head, claws, and an LED kit so that the police lights work. My favorite part about this custom are the claws. I know it is a really small detail to be excited about but the original hands on the Barricade figure bugged me (well, most of the figure bugged me as it was not very movie accurate to begin with).

“Strength is more than physical”

Springer is a wise-cracking, easy-going, sharp-witted and somewhat caustic fighting Autobot. He has an unfailing optimism and good humor and courage beyond known bounds, and with it all, the willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends and the sake of his mission. Jin Saotome brings this G1 Classic figure to life with his Custom Transformers Springer figure. First appearing in the cartoon version of the Transformers Movie, Jin has given this figure a fresh look while retaining it’s G1 nature. The original Springer figure left much to be desired and was a very plain Transformer but Jin has given this figure a new life by using the Transformers 2007 Movie figure, Incinerator.

Chris Morada shows us how he can take customizing to the next level with his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Beastbox figure, made from the Transformers Movie XBOX Controller. It really takes a keen eye to see a figure on the shelf of a store and know that it will become a work of art when completed. The base figure is perfect for a Beastbox custom and if the paint aps look as flawless as they do in the pictures, the winning bidder will sure be in for a treat! I love the departure in color as Chris has made this custom in classic Decepticon purple, giving this figure a fresh look. The twin cannons on the back complete the classic G1 homage to this mini cassette tape.

Ironhide Custom Transformers Movie Voyager Class Figure by Crefigz

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Ironhide1 793636 transformersCrefigz gives a slick look that is movie accurate with his Custom Transformers Ironhide figure. What is really great about this figure is that it (1) looks very much like the Movie version and (2) the metal detailing looks very realistic. Here is a close up:

Ironhide2 723820 transformersMy favorite aspects of Crefigz’ Ironhide is that the truck mode and robot mode compliment each other very well. With some other customs I have seen, too much effort was spent on making the robot mode look great but when it is transformed back into truck mode, something just does not look right. Crefigz’ made sure that Ironhide looks awesome in both modes, which will make this custom very sought after. Ironhide is up for bids on eBay so head over here and check him out for yourself.

AFC Interviews Customizer Shinobitron

Tags: , ,

shinobitron 300x259 2007 movieShinobitron is one of the most talented Transformers customizers I have met thus far. He also makes customs for Marvel Legends, Video Games, and GI Joe but I am drawn his work with the Transformers. If you are looking for a one of a kind custom to proudly display on your shelf next to the originals, you need to check out his work! I have blogged about several of his customs, including Highbrow, Beachcomber, Rampage, and the latest, Dragstrip. Please check out all my reviews of his figures on his dedicated page. I was lucky enough to get some insight and learn more about Shinobitron so please enjoy!

AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself.

Shinobitron: My real name is Justin and I currently reside in north western Pennsylvania. I’m 28 years old and work in a stock room for the Pittsburgh Steelers when I’m not making customs. I’m big into Anime and classic 80s toons. Not only do I customize figures I also make costumes. I’ve been Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, the Hobgoblin, and Soundwave! Soundwave could actually transform and the chest opened to reveal a cassette that also changed into Lazerbeak. LB had magnets in his feet that let him attach to my wrist!

My artist name comes from 2 things 1) Shinobi, one of my favorite video games of all time. Not only that but the remake for the PS2 had Hotsuma, the main character, in one awesome looking uniform. 2) Tron, not for the old movie but as in Megatron. I’ve always like the bad guys more. I currently started a website called Shinobitrons Dojo
http://www.freewebs.com/shinobitron/index.htm

I can be contacted there or thru my regular email at:
shinobi13j@aol.com

AFC: When did you start making customs?

Shinobitron: I started making them in 1999. This all started with my love for Resident Evil. I bought the entire set of figures from Toybiz and was mad no Wesker figure was made. I used a Toybiz Johnny Blaze and remade him into Wesker. That’s when this all started I then took it into Gundams, Various models kits, and random figures for practice. I got the heaviest into it however when the Marvel Legends released and have been very steady ever since.

AFC: How many customs do you work on at one time?

Shinobitron: For the most part I try to keep all my focus on one figure at a time. This lets me give all my attention to one item and let me give one figure my all. I do however base coat figures that up for painting while working on another figure. This let any sculpty or glues I have on my main project harden and keeps me from sitting idle. (I do cave and treat myself to some PS2 or PC games in between phases though)

AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?

Shinobitron: I have to go with Transformers on this one. First of all each piece can end up being super easy or one heck of a challenge. After you finish one of the pieces you get a great sense of accomplishment, knowing that you made not one but two toys in one project. You got a badass looking robot and a sleek vehicle that looks equally badass.

Another reason I like TFs is the fans reaction. TF has a diehard fan base that love their bots. When you sell a figure to a person and he/she says that your piece is proudly displayed in their collection for everyone they know to see it give you a great sense of pride.

AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?

Shinobitron: That’s a tough question. I would have to say a very rough tie between my Darkstalkers, Ghost in the Shell, Galvatron, and Hotsuma figures. These piece have a special place for me as they are major display pieces on my shelves.

Galvatron 707779 2007 movie

AFC: What customs do you have lined up for your next ones?

Shinobitron: My minds always working on what to make up next. I’m a real spur of the moment kind of person and even though I set myself a list of figure to make I usually end up doing something else cause I just got a great base fig I “have” to use right then and there. Heres a tenative list: Goldbug, Movie Beachcomber, Hoist, SHS Venture Bros figures, Animated Deadpool, Female Junkions, gears, The entire Cowboy Bebop cast, Bludgeon, Anime X-Men, 8″ Master Cheif, Hellsing characters, G2 Grimlock, and more Sigma 6 Cobra members.
Believe me there so many I can’t even remember them all.

AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?

Shinobitron: Practice, Practice, practice. I know that Jin says this but its the truth. Never be afraid to use new techniques, screw things up or break things. Doing this is sometimes the best way to learn. Try new items, new paints, and new parts. Just remember to have fun doing it and never give up.

Chih has gotten back to military basics with his Custom Transformers Incinerator figure. Although this vehicle appeared in the Transformers Movie, it was not a central part of the storyline nor did it actually transform into anything, I feel this figure is a nice addition to the Transformers Movie line. With respect to Chih’s overall plan for this figure, it is spot on. I love the military grey and the Air Force decals really make this figure stand out. The copper accents are a great touch as they highlight the parts that are lost in the original release of the figure. If you want to own a custom from the one of the premier and best Transformers customizers out there, Chih is your man so head over to eBay and place a bid on his awesome Custom Incinerator Transformers figure!

Custom Transformers Leader Class Brawl Movie Figure by l.designs

Tags: , , , ,

Brawl1 774398 transformers l.designs is showing his diverse talent with his Custom Transformers Leader Class Brawl Movie figure. One of things I really like about this Brawl is the depth that this figure has with l.design’s paint ap technique. The camo art is very well done and the tank looks down and dirty. The blackwashing on the figure gives it a realistic feel and the mud on the tank treads makes it look like Brawl has traveled a long way to open a can of whoop ass on some unsuspecting Autobots. Let’s get some more insight on how this Brawl was made:

“A lot of time and attention to detail went into making this as accurate as possible to available reference material I could dig up, but of course has my spin on it as usual. I started out in tank mode and took the approach of a real war worn tank. After creating a factory finish paint job from top to bottom I weathered this sucker as accurate as possible. The wheels were rusted a bit, then shined back up where it would naturally rub and thus be polished from use. Finally touches of mud were caked on top of that. The tracks themselves have dirt in the crevices, but then the exposed portion that would be rolling along several types of terrain have been scratched into a slightly polished look. All hinges and areas around hatches and edges and what not have a weathered metal look as the paint would be worn from these areas as well. There is soot stain across the paint job from years of battle and use as well as scratch marks here and there. The robot mode has had much the same treatment, with several types of metallic paint to give real depth to the metal areas.”

Custom Transformers Stockade Sector 7 Movie Figure by chih

Tags: , , , , , ,

Stockade1 744944 transformersOne of my pet peeves with the Transformers Movie toys is that Hasbro keeps making toys out of vehicles that did not transform into robots but chih makes up for this by making a kick ass Custom Stockade figure. I guess Hasbro can still pumping out toys as this gives customizers a nice canvas to work with.

What I really like about this custom is that chih made the robot mode look a million times better with weathered steel, copper accents, and a dull black that makes gives the figure a fresh from battle look. Sometimes the showroom shine does not do a figure justice and chih has a great ability to make a blase Transformers and make turn it into a masterpiece.

Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus Leader Class Movie Figure by frenzy.rumble

Custom Ultra Magnus 1 701906 2007 movieFrom the creative mind and hands of frenzy.rumble comes his one of a kind Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus.  Taking a Leader Class Optimus Prime as the base of this figure, frenzy.rumble has created a truley unique custom and is in a class by itself. To be honest, I was speachless when I saw this custom you will see why in the coming photos and description. To kick it off, I will let frenzy.rumble do the honors:

“This auction is for the leader class Autobot Ultra Magnus, which stands about 12″ tall in robot mode. Created entirely from my imagination. Every single wire, detail, screw and millimeter has been carefully and perfectly detailed.”

Custom Ultra Magnus 2 724216 2007 movieEvery aspect of this custom is amazing and from what frenzy.rumble has disclosed about the paint aps it must be bullet proof (8 layers + 3 coats of lacquer). I will first start off by commenting on the ‘Magnus’ robot, which is blue and white (pictured above). This is one of the best looking metallic paint jobs I have come accross and the blues and whites really pop, creating a cohesive looking color scheme for the base of Ultra Magnus. In truck mode, I love the huge silver Autobot symbol screams louder than a semi’s horn and is a great addition to the base Magnus figure. In his own words, he describes how the base is made:

“I built this custom starting with a leader class Optimus Prime, which I completely took apart, removed any factory paint, and primed with plastic primer, which provides a very durable protective under paint. All paint you see is 100% enamel. It’s harder, and more durable than the customs you’ll see painted in acrylic. Also, enamel paints are ‘color-fast’ meaning they will retain their original color for 10+ years, where-as acrylics typically fade after 2-3 years. The white paint used here is 8 layers thick including 3 layers of lacquer (clear coats) producing an INCREDIBLE shine (it’s even waxable with car polish). The first robot you see (in only blue/white) is called “Magnus.” The silver metal robot parts on him were painted in 6 shades of silver, to give the ultimate metallic look. This was done for the blue areas also.”

Custom Ultra Magnus 3 787443 2007 movie To turn Magnus into Ultra Magnus, frenzy.rumble has outfitted this Autobot with custom armor and has armed him to the teeth! Anyone could have stopped at this point and called it good with an Optimus repaint but frenzy.rumble has taken it to the next level.

Custom Ultra Magnus 5 739170 2007 movie The custom head sculpt and armor are what makes this custom unique and why this should be the Ultra Magnus to add to your collection. By donning the armor and head, the former Magnus figure takes on a totally new look and a bad ass persona. This is one of my favorite customs to date and to let us in on more detail, here is frenzy.rumble:
Custom Ultra Magnus 4 723793 2007 movie

“Armored Ultra Magnus: This mother is armed to the teeth. There’s enough firepower on him to melt the decepticon army in a few blasts. All armor seen, was created using spare and extra parts from other transformers and action figures. The armor actually snaps or is magnetically attached to the base figure. His smokestacks were actually made from a woman’s make-up applicator! The gun (shown in one of the last photos) actually winds up moves. The custom head was made from spare ZOIDS parts and a knock-off Transformer, and sits magnetically on the neck base.”

He leave us with teaser that only the winning bidder with get to enjoy so head over to eBay and secure your spot in the running to own this Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus figure:

“To make Magnus into Ultra Magnus, you’d need to actually perform a 3rd one-of-a-kind transformation (which I will provide to the winner).”

Custom Transformers Brawn Generation 1 Movie Figure by Warmachine

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Custom Transformers Brawn 785462 2007 movieI love the latest wave of Transformers Movie figures as they have revived the customs and have people putting on their thinking caps to see how they can turn ordinary figures into extraordinary works of art. Warmachine demonates this with his Custom Transformers Brawn done in G1 style. I really like the way Warmachine sculpted the head to give Brawn an updated, more menacing look than the cartoon counterpart. He used a combination of acrylic, and enamel paints as well as utilizing the drybrushing, panel lining, and highlighting techniques to achieve a more detailed look. The colors came out spectacular and this custom pays a great homage to this classic minibot.

custom transformers brawn 300x197 2007 movie

Brawn 737538 2007 movie Brawn looks on Earth as essentially a hostile environment – and he loves it. He is the most macho of the Autobots. He delights in challenges and when he faces one he becomes fully alive. He is strong, rugged and very agile – which is why he is frequently teamed with Bumblebee when the Autobots are in a mountainous environment – but it is his enjoyment of the challenge that makes him valuable to his leader, Optimus Prime. He won’t be discouraged and that helps the morale of the rest. He is hardy and enjoys a good joke, if it is not too subtle. His main fault is that he tends to be contemptuous of those not as tough as he.

Custom Brawl Transformers Movie Figure by frenzy.rumble

Custom Brawl Final Battle 705244 2007 movie frenzy.rumble displays his talent with his latest Custom Transformers Movie Brawl as he was seen the final battle with Jazz. Not only is this is Movie accurate paint scheme, he also took it one step further and added much needed battle damage to the figure. The damage is the right amount to give him a war torn look without going over board. Sometimes, less is more and frenzy.rumble has done just that adding the slashes, bullet holes, and blood in the right places. The paint aps are a great shade of military green and and he has even gone as far as detailing all of the metal components and adding “energon blood”, which he describes more below. Overall, this is one of the best Custom Brawl figures I have seen in a while and I am glad that he took this project on. frenzy.rumble describes how he created this great custom:

“This auction is for the leader class decepticon Brawl, which stands about 12″ tall in robot mode. The figure has been meticulously detailed with 14 shades of military green, an array of metallic colors, and many other colors. EVERY detail is painted to perfection… even the underside of the main turret. Dirt, sand, mud, and grime have been added to the tank’s treads and front areas. All ‘battle damage” was carefully added on using special apoxy materials, tools, and more, giving it a very accurate damaged and burnt look. Some damage even has color-accurate energon blood (the Transformers’ version of blood, but glowing, and blue) All paints used in the process were 100% enamels, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t leave throw it around!) I finished him off with some Testor’s clear coats, all matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations.”

Highbrow Custom Transformers Generation 1 Figure Made From Incinerator by Shinobitron

Highbrow1 799329 2007 movieThe new Voyager Class Transformers Movie figures are giving customizers a fresh canvas to work with. I really loved the Voyager Class Incinerator mold and I have been chomping at the bit to see what this next wave of custom Transformers brings. This week, Shinobitron has remade a Generation 1 Classic Headmaster with his Custom Transformers Highbrow made from the Transformers Movie Figure Incinerator. What a great mold to make for Highbrow as the Incinerator mold comes very close to the G1 representation of Highbrow. The colors match very well and the figure even comes with his Nebulan counterpart Gort.

Highbrow5 726561 2007 movie

Highbrow considers warfare a barbaric solution to problems, worthy of only the most primitive sentient creatures. He believes civilized folk should talk about their differences, a talent for which he seemingly has an endless capacity. Hardhead claims that Highbrow’s voice box burns enough fuel by itself to power all the Nebulan Autobots for a year. Although that is doubtful, Highbrow does talk a lot and uses a lot of words that nobody understands. Even Chromedome often finds himself fruitlessly searching through his extensive vocabulary. Highbrow considers himself intellectually superior to the Nebulans and other Autobots. They think he’s a self-righteous snob. Highbrow’s biggest disappointment in life is that circumstance has forced him to lower himself to participate in the very activity he most loathes – fighting. Gort, Highbrow’s Nebulan partner, is quite a contrast. He’s a cheerful young man with never an unkind word for anyone. Spurred by concern for protecting his planet, he overcame his working-class origins as a stable boy for an exclusive Nebulan country club that catered to the aristocracy to join the elite ranks of the Headmasters. He is much admired by his comrades for his earnestness, common sense and courage – except for Highbrow, who finds it a humiliating, humbling experience to be binary-bonded to such a commoner. Young women all over Nebulos are attracted to the boyishly handsome hero, but Gort remains steadfastly faithful to his long-time girlfriend, Marita. Gort is the All-American boy of the Nebulan Autobot Headmasters.

Onslaught1 731042 2007 movieHot on the heals of his Custom Deadend, warmachine has come back swinging with his Custom Transformers Onslaught made from a Transformers Movie Voyager Class Optimus Prime. What struck me about this custom was the unique repurposing of an Optimus Prime figure into a kickass Decepticon from one of the coolest combiner figures: Bruticus. The colors on this figure really bring out the Generation 1 style of the original figure and the extras are simply amazing. Not only has me made Onslaught, he also made Swindle, another Combaticon. The custom trailer and missles pay hommage to the original G1 figure with a great execution and vision for the potential of the Voyager Class Optimus Prime. I really hope he makes more Combaticons and completes the set of combiners. Warmachine explains more about how he created this classic:

onslaught 300x225 2007 movie

“I custom painted the movie voyager size version of Prime but modded his original head by cutting away and trimming parts not needed, and then fabricated new parts with Milliput(modelers putty) and styrene. Custom Ironman Marvel Legends Style by Jin Saotome

IronManCustom2 742146 2007 movieHitting theatres 5/28/2008 is the Ironman movie which I am sure will be a huge hit and preempting the movie release is Jin Saotome’s version of Ironman in Custom Marvel Legends Style. Jin’s Ironman is highly detailed with a finish you don’t find on many customs. The figures is painted in a metallic style and really shines, giving the figure the illusion of being made of iron. The head is custom made perfectly proportioned. Another great feature of this custom is the rocket pack, which is originally found on the Classics Jetfire Transformers figure, which was painted great and washed with black detail. I wonder what Jin has in store for a Jetfire sans rocket pack…anyways…here is how he created this great looking figure:

“To celebrate the big screen event of our metallic hero I give you my version of Iron Man. He’s been painted with metallic red and yellow (ignore the somewhat green tinge to my camera lighting) and has a high gloss shine. Different sections are blacklined to show depth and there’s natural shading/highlights when the light hits him. His head is custom made and he has articulated fingers! There’s no Iron Man like this one available and it’s not one of the movie figures either, it’s a one-of-a-kind custom figure. Even though he’s completely poseable I’d handle him gently as his armor has a high gloss shine to it and you’ll want to avoid scratching it. Plug on the Stark MG720 rocket pack and he’s ready to head across the globe, into space, or wherever the Avengers need him! The rocket pack also converts to combat mode by sliding the back sections that reveal two spring-loaded lasers cannons.”

Custom Transformers Movie Blackout by kingokrap

CustomTransformersMovieBlackout 761705 transformers

The custom Movie Transformers keep on getting better and better, and kingokrap’s version of Blackout might be the hallmark for achieving movie accuracy. Blackout was the first on the scene to open a big can of whoop ass in the Movie and this Custom Transformers Movie Blackout looks like he is ready to do some serious damage. One thing that kingokrap’s custom Blackout has that most are lacking are the armaments and accessories that were seen in the movie. The guns were a great addition to beef up this bad boy and the blast effects are too cool for words. Kingokrap goes into a bit more detail on how he created this great piece:

CustomTransformersMovieBlackout1 761650 transformers“First off, Blackout was completely repainted with a weathered look. Multiple layers of washes and highlights were added. I even added the silver scrapes to his rotors. He was given decals to match the writing/markings from the movie. Now for the accessories. First off, I completely repainted Scorponok to match his look in the movie. Blackout was given a mini-gun with firing effect, and EMP Cannon with EMP blast effect. Two small shoulder rocket launchers that look good in either vehicle or robot mode. A larger shoulder rocket launcher with firing missile effect. A shoulder mounted machine gun with firing effect. A chest turret that screws into a hole on Blackout’s chest and moves up and down, comes with firing effect. And finally I’ve included a rotor weapon for Blackout’s arm, just like in the movie. All the arm attachments attach using powerful magnets, and they are sturdy.”

Nemesis Prime Custom Leader Class Transformer by chih

NemesisPrimeLeaderClass6 759684 transformersEver since I saw Chih’s Custom Transformers Nemsis Prime the first time, I have always been meaning to write about it. One thing that draws me to Chih’s Customs is his mastery skill at the paint aps and the gobs of weapons he makes for each one, which reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the 2007 Transformers Movie when Simmons says, “Big guys with big guns.” Chih is not afraid to arm his customs to the teeth with weapons galore that look like they really belong with the figure. The guns are really well made and crafted with intricate details that set them apart from each other.

Besides a great paint job on the figure, I really like the smaller details that are missing from some Nemesis Prime customs. For example, I dig the Decepticon mudflaps! If you are looking quickly at this figure you will miss them but I had to do a double take but it is this kind of attention to detail that makes Chih’s customs special. The combination Prime/Decepticon Symbol is a nice touch as well and completes the tanker, which, again, is missing from most Nemesis Prime customs.

Custom Transformers Movie Smokescreen G1 Style by frenzy.rumble

Smokescreen2 746365 2007 movie

frenzy.rumble had the vision to take the mediocre Transformers Movie Jazz figure and crafted it into a Generation 1 masterpiece with his Custom Transformers Movie Smokescreen figure. When I first saw this figure, I was thrown back by the craftsmanship that went into this one. I really thought I was looking at the original G1 Smokescreen as the colors and decals are a perfect match to the original. The paint almost has a glass appearance and it is really obvious that this figure was meticulously painted and matched to the original.
The G1 redeco’s are my favorite of the Transformers customs as the customizers who make these have a great vision for what will look great and frenzy.rumble’s customs rank up there at the top of my list! One of the aspects that sets other customizers apart is the ability to enhance their figures by seeking out parts that will take the figure to the next level. Let’s see how frenzy_rumble made this great looking figure:
“Smokescreen was built off a TFTM Jazz figure, G1 reco mold. His head comes from Armada Blurr, with some slight alterations. In order to compete against the spring on the head section, I installed a small peg behind his chest plate, this ensures that the head area and neck stay on a straight angle. Jazz’s ‘hands’ were no good, so I dremeled them off at the wrists. I drilled into the wrist a tight hole for a steel rod, and attached Gundam model fists onto the rods. They are articulated (spin) yet remain very tight. I removed some of the detail in his knee area, filled it in with some apoxie sculpt and painted with a deep metallic-red high gloss enamel. The pistols he weilds are from a clearance toy found at WalMart. I had the decals for the hood and doors custom made using a high quality 3M vinyl. The exterior was painted with Krylon Fusion Red and Blue, then robot mode was painted with about 99% enamels, so the finish is very durable. I finished him off with some Testors clear coats, all matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations.”

Custom Dead End Stunticon Transformers G1 Style Movie Figure by grapes4mapes

Tags: , , , , , , ,

DeadEnd 774992 generation 1 transformersHere is another great example of the many uses of the Bumblebee Concept Camaro with grapes4mapes Custom Transformers Stunticon, Dead End. Keeping with Deadend’s G1 likeness, the head is fashioned after the cartoon version and not the toy. I actually like the cartoon head better as the toy looked too human and had a gold face. Although there is a deviation in color (the cartoon version and the toy were maroon), I like his color choice better and it compliments figure nicely.

DeadEnd2 724410 generation 1 transformersYou can add this Custom Dead End to your Transformers Bumblebee collection as this excellent piece is available on eBay!

If you want to read more about Dead End, please do so below.

deadend1 generation 1 transformersSullen and fatalistic, Dead End sees little reason to continue the Autobot-Decepticon War since all Transformers eventually become inoperative anyway, even though it might take tens of thousands of years. Yet he spends more time keeping himself unmarred and shiny than any of his fellow Stunticons, an irony not lost upon Motormaster, who speculates that Dead End wants to at least make sure he leaves a pretty wreck when he dies. This vanity leads to a lot of teasing and derision directed toward Dead End, which just makes him feel worse. The only thing that can lift his spirits is blasting Autobots in battle, despite what he says about the pointlessness of it all. It seems he’s too busy trying to save his own life to get depressed about the possibility of losing it.

About Chih’s Custom Transformers Workshop
I had the pleasure of interviewing Chih so here is more about this talented customizer (here is a link to the original interview)AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself

http://chihcustomworkshop.blogspot.com/, and my eBay ID is: chihhsiang408. Feel free to email me through eBay or my hotmail: chih408@hotmail.com

. About myself…. People call me SUPERMAN because I look like him: big, tall, and handsome. :) AFC: When did you start making customs?

Chih: I just started in September this year. Within two months, I met so many good friends on eBay, and received their great support. I used to do lots of WWII airplane and tank models. Since I love the Transformers movie & the figures so much, I started customizing them right after the movie came out.

AFC: How many customs do you work on at one time?

Chih: I work on about 2~4 at a time, and some times more, because I got a lot of people’s special requests for my work.

AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?

Chih: So far for my best work is the Nemesis Prime Tanker, because many fans emails just keep coming in for that one!

AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?

Chih: The New Movie Version Transformers, since the new figures have a lot of fine detail, and the custom paint job looks great on them!

AFC: What customs do you have lined up for your next ones?

Chih: I plan to use Cybertron Transformers next. The first one is my Ultra Magnus. It’s turning out great and I like it very much, so I will use more Cybertron version Transformers.

AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?

Chih: If you want to produce better work, you need to get better quality tools :) If you don’t have good tools, sometimes a great idea will be a disaster, so get some good tools to help you turn out your great ideas! ;)

“A couple of months ago, I saw a custom Unicron action figure go for several hundred dollars on eBay. Since it’s the holiday season, I figured why not try and catch lightning in a bottle again by doing the same thing for a good cause?
The figure pictured is a Transformers Armada Unicron toy, which has undergone a special two-step customization process involving my car (patent pending). I guess you could say he looks somewhat like he did at the end of Transformers: The Movie.

Custom Transformers Hot Rod Generation 1 by deathwind000

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Hot Rod 3 725175 generation 1 transformers “My actions speak louder than my words.”
deathwind000 takes the run of the mill Bumblebee 2008 Camaro and turns it into a Generation 1 Classic with this Custom Hot Rod. This is another great example of a talented customizer taking a great base and doing something extraordinary with it. In robot mode, I like the way deathwind000 did the metal paint aps on the arms and legs, giving them a weathered look and a feeling that Hot Rod has seen some action. He chose a great shade of red and the flames pay a nice homage to this G1 classic. An awesome license plate decal which says “Hot Stuff” rounds off the figure as well as the great head choice. This Custom Hot Rod ranks as one of the best G1 customs made out of a Transformers Movie Bumblebee. I know it is the holidays but put deathwind000’s Custom Hot Rod on your watch list on eBay and be sure to make this one your own!
Hot Rod 4 725195 generation 1 transformers
More about Hot Rod
Hot Rod is the all-American-boy Autobot. Not too sweet, not too sharp, not too snotty… not a goodie-goodie, but basically a typical adolescent who has dreams of doing great stuff and being as heroic and important as Optimus Prime and other famous and revered top Autobots. He tends to follow rules until they bug him – and he sometimes learns, to his regret, that disobeying wasn’t exactly smart. And he often acts without thinking in an effort to do the right thing – and this gets him and sometimes his friends in trouble. But he’s not afraid when trouble does arrive and is a brave and honorable fighter and friend. He is especially close to Kup, the grizzled old mentor of an Autobot, although he sometimes resents hearing “wisdom.” And he likes Daniel, the Earth kid, a lot. (In a way, Hot Rod is big brother to Daniel – a role model – and Hot Rod knows it and takes the responsibility seriously.) In robot or automotive mode, Hot Rod is sometimes hot-headed, but always a well-meaning, admirable “lad” and popular with all who know him.

Custom Transformers Movie Ironhide
TransformersMovieIronhide350 719996 2007 movie Auction Description: This auction is for an 8″ tall custom Ironhide figure with twin arm cannons and four missiles. He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Ironhide in all sorts of awesome Decepticon-blasting poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms just like the store-bought one and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. Instructions are included because let’s face it, these suckers are like skill-puzzles! You came here for an action figure right? Something you can play with that’s not just a statue? Well that’s exactly what you’re getting! Now you can have the best of both worlds. By now you’ve probably seen the Transformers movie, right? You may of noticed the store-bought Ironhide, while an excellently sculpted figure, is pretty much all one color and is missing the wear and tear that the oldest Transformer should have. That’s where I step in! Ironhide has been repainted to accurately portray his character on the big screen. Every individual panel, gear, hose, and robot section has been hand-painted. He’s been carefully and realistically detailed with different metallics, shading, highlights, and mechanical tones. All the details in his face have been repainted and you can really see the fine sculpting of this figure now.Iron’s head is now on a ball joint and can look around in all directions giving him some great poses! As mentioned before you can transform Ironhide without damaging the paint job and he will look great on your shelf next to the rest of your collection as an accurate portrayal of the movie character. Did you want a tough ol’ hombre to play shoot-em-up with your Decepticons? Know someone who would get a kick out of a Topkick? Then don’t pass this auction up!

Transformers Movie Bumblebee 2009 Camaro
TransformersMovieBumblebee350 787877 2007 movie Auction Description: This auction is for a 6″ tall custom Bumblebee with removable weapon-arm, alternate arm panels, new detailed head, and battle-mask head! He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose BB in all sorts of awesome Decepticon-battling poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms just like the store-bought one and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. (You will need to remove the new head first however as it’s wider than the normal one) He comes with instructions because these figures can be like skill-puzzles. You came here for an action figure right? Something you can play with that’s not just a statue? Well that’s exactly what you’re getting! This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Handle it, pose it, just don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. It’s Bumblebee! This time the bee sports a new look with a new movie-accurate head and removable arm-cannon. He’s been repainted and detailed to look like the movie character with different effects such as shading, highlights, metallic paints, and weathering to his robot parts. Slip his right arm off at the shoulder and you can replace it with the cannon-arm, also jointed at the elbow for maximum poseability.Need to go into battle with the Bee? Pop on his battle-mask head! It’s hand sculpted and painted with great detail to resemble the one in the movie complete with little eye grates. You also get your choice of alternate arm panels in case you didn’t want the clunky doors hanging off there. Bumblebee transforms like the store-bought toy but it’s best to remove his new head so you don’t get it banged up underneath the vehicle, it’s a bit wider than the old one. So, were you looking for a super-detailed Bumblebee with a face anyone can love? Know a friend that needs a hand? A cannon-hand? Heheh.. Then don’t pass this auction up!

Transformers Movie Final Battle Jazz
TransformersMovieJazz350 787845 2007 movie Auction Description: This auction is for an 6″ tall Custom ‘Final Battle’ Jazz with crescent rifle, robot-guts, and rip-in-half action! He has multiple points of articulation meaning you can pose him in all sorts of awesome “I got 20 seconds of fight time before I was torn in two” poses and he’ll look great in every one. Transforming Jazz won’t affect the paint job…and even if it did you’d just have more battle-damage, Ha! *Ahem* He converts from robot to car mode easily. Instructions are included, you just need to snap his waist together when you’re ready for robot mode. Poor Jazz, he got all beat up in the movie. I’d post a big ’spoiler’ message here but if you haven’t seen the movie yet you’re probably not looking at this auction. Jazz gets ripped in half by Megatron in his gloriously short amount of fight time and looked pretty roughed up. Now you can have the figure that pops apart too, complete with hanging robo-guts and blue-blood detailing for all you morbid types. I’ve seriously nicked, scratched, dented, and dinged Jazz here for some pretty believable battle damage.

He’s been painted with various metallic shades, grime, weathering, scuffs, shadows, and highlights. You’ll notice his car-mode is damaged, check out the detailed crack-patterns on the windows! Missing lights, cracked headlights, gouges from Megatron’s claws, it’s all there. He comes with his screen-accurate Crescent-cannon that’s painted just as detailed as he is and fires a cool energy bolt. So, wishing you had a Jazz that was equally banged up in both modes? Know a friend who would weep like a baby if you showed them this? Then don’t pass this auction up!

They informed me that they had one in the works a few weeks ago and I have been waiting for this day. First off, the scale is huge! Check out the regular Blackout next to this one and you will soon see exactly how large this Transformers is. Hasbro take notes! Second, the Movie accurate paint job is another reason to be the sole owner of this one of a kind custom, which, will not be reproduced again so you will be getting a 1/1 steller custom from boskoestoys. A couple other noteworth features includes the original headsculpt, which is very accurate to the movie and the super poseability of the figure allows you to pose Blackout in several natural positions.

Head over to eBay and check out more pictures of boskoestoys Custom Transformers Movie Blackout Leader Class Ultimate Edition and I would also suggest adding this customizer to your favorite sellers as he does amazing work! I have highlighted some of the details from the auciton, which you can find below. Two months of work was poured into this amazing piece of work! boskoestoys goes on to explain:

Conception of the idea
We waited, and waited to do this figure thinking Hasbro might come out with one, especially after the late arrival of a “Leader class Brawl”. But with the movie buzz dyin’ down, and Hasbro halting production on Transformer movie toys, it looked like it was up to us.In our opinion not makin’ a Leader Class BLACKOUT was one of the biggest oversights in toy makin’ history, and to us just shows how outta touch big toy companies are with their fan base.

Enter Boskoes Toys “exclusive”, custom LEADER CLASS BLACKOUT Transformers movie figure. First we’ll get to his size. He’s actually more like an “ULTIMATE CLASS”, measuring 2 FEET long in helicopter mode, and almost 13 inches tall in robot mode (not including propeller attachment, which makes him even bigger)

Blackout3 714788 2007 movie From Conception to Reality: Features of this Custom Blackout

  • Ultra realistic “movie accurate” pant job
  • We did have to simplify his Transformation process a bit, but there’s still plenty of transformation happening here. His legs spin backward, and filled up underneath him. His legs are very articulated, and bend several places, including swivel at the hips allowing some cool “dynamic” poses
  • The tail piece of the copter detaches using a very sturdy “click in” system. The tail piece also holds a hidden sound FX (lasers, and copter sound)
His arms which fold back and act as his side bars in Helicopter Mode, fold down, and have a wide range of motion
  • Sidebar covers fold out in Robot Mode to reveal large missile
  • Large Propeller from Helicopter detaches, and can be attached to BLACKOUTS back in robot mode
  • Top turret can be swapped with included BLUE LED search light
  • Blackouts head, which is an original “more accurate sculpt” is removed while in Helicopter mode (whirls on a sturdy ball and socket system), and can be stored in a small custom Transformers case
  • Blackout comes with three different exchangeable weapons (rifle, propeller gun, and claw missile launcher)
  • Back propeller can be removed and popped into the front of BLACKOUT large gun to create to propeller gun
  • BLACKOUTS hands are articulated and can be opened and closed
  • BLACKOUT comes with 3 Army soldiers and cargo gear (two fit inside the cockpit)
  • Revoltech G1 Optimus prime is included incase you wanna create a “trick scale” for display
  • We use the Gold standard in paints and Apoxy, Aves, Testors, and Reaper
  • Our figures are super sturdy, and the paint is very durable

Custom Transformers Galvatron Generation One Cartoon Movie Style by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

GalvatronG1 008 793278 2007 movieWho can take a Transformers figure that looked like it came out of a Lucky Charms box and turn it into a piece of Generation 1 Transformers Movie history? You guessed it! Jin Saotome! After Jin’s successful 2007 Transformers Movie Galvatron, he went back to his roots and created this Custom Transformers Cartoon Movie Galvatron out of the ashes of an Energon Megatron figure. I do like the masculine look of this Galvatron as Jin has focused on making him Gray and Blue (instead of the traditional purple). The cannon is a great shade of deep orange which compliments the figure nicely. As Jin states in his auction:

This auction is for a 10” tall custom Transformers ‘Classics’ Galvatron figure with removable particle accelerator cannon, and space-cannon attachments. Galvatron has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count and they all have excellent range of motion even for as large as he is. This means you can pose him in all sorts of awesome Starscream-threatening poses and he’ll look great in every one. Galvatron changes from robot to scrap Space Cannon and transforming him won’t affect the paint job. Just take care when moving his parts around as he’s a very large and hefty figure.
GalvatronG1 002 794389 2007 movieThis custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Here’s another taken on an old favorite, Galvatron done in a ‘Classics’ feel to him. First of all he’s huge, ten inches tall and fairly wide to boot. He has an imposing feel about him especially with his massive particle accelerator cannon aimed at you! The cannon can be attached on two spots on his right arm, on the side for storage and on his forearm for combat. And wow this sucker is a brilliant metallic gloss orange! Galvatron himself has been hand painted with various shades of blues/dark blues, weathered highlights, shadows, metallic sections, and given the full treatment of detailing that all my custom figures get. Even his eyes are two tones of red and yellow, burning with the need to kick Starscream across Cybertron at a moment’s notice.
GalvatronG1 005 729036 2007 movieBut what’s Galvatron without an alt mode? Throughout the years he’s been depicted as different things but it’s back to the oldschool look this time! Galvatron transforms into yes, a massive space cannon, complete with treads. His arm cannon becomes the tip and brings his size to over a foot long. A lot of care and detail was put into this figure to get him the right mix of G1, cartoon, and modern styling here, I hope you like him. So, did you want Galvatron to top off your unique collection of Transformers? Know a friend who would get a kick out of a giant blue robot? (yes, sometimes Galvatron is depicted in purple, but then he’d be competing against the X-men Sentinels). Then don’t pass this auction up!! This figure will ship to you in time for Christmas too, in case you’d like to give him as a gift.

Make sure you check out Jin’s awesome Custom Transformers Movie Galvatron for your chance to own this great piece!

Omega Supreme Transformers Classics Custom by Jin Saotome

OmegaSupreme 005 756982 generation 1 transformers

“Unyielding resolve has no conqueror.”
Jin Saotome, master of Transformer customization, brings us a real treat today. Omega Sumpreme, one of the tried and true Generation 1 classics of our time, is reincarnated into this awesome Custom Omega Supreme, which I will let Jin describe in his own words…
“This auction is for a 10″ tall custom Transformers ‘Classics’ Omega Supreme figure with removable drilling arms, working scrap-magnet, scrap-claw, Dump truck minicon, and flickering light-up smelting furnace. Omega has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count and they all have excellent range of motion. This means you can pose him in all sorts of awesome Decepticon-smelting poses and he’ll look great in every one. Omega changes from robot to scrap metal foundry and transforming him won’t affect the paint job. It’s time for more Transformers Classics customs and this week I give you Omega Supreme Omega features two drilling arms that can be detached into separate vehicles. The right claw opens up and spins via a thumbwheel and the left drill extends and spins when you slide the lever. Add two AAA batteries (not included) and you can have the claw-drill light up and make noise when you spin it. Once detached you can transform Omega into a scrap metal foundry complete with a working scrap-magnet for hoisting metal chunks into his minicon buddy and scrap-claw for tearing apart slagged Decepticon wreckage into smaller bits. Inside Omega’s chest is the smelting furnace that lights up and flickers brightly, ready to process scrap metal into raw materials to repair his Autobot friends. (furnace batteries are included and you can replace them easily) Omega Supreme has been painted with many different shades, metallics, weathering, highlights, shadows, you name it. He’s been styled to resemble his G1 form while playing to the modern ‘Transformers Classics’ theme. So… were you looking for a giant guardian to watch over Cybertron while you were out? Know a friend who will keep trying to attach the two arms to form a rocket? (sorry, they’re drilling equipment this time around, heh) Then don’t pass this auction up!!”
Own this one of a kind custom today by visiting Jin’s Custom Omega Supreme Auction at eBay. If you would like to learn more about Omega Supreme, please read below:
OmegaSupreme 009 745238 generation 1 transformers
Omega Supreme is the ultimate defensive force. Although he has great strength, it is his even greater courage which truly distinguishes him. Against overwhelming odds, he will stand unwaveringly and fight with every last microchip of his mechanical being. His fellow Autobots consider him serious, even grim, but those with insight know the reason why: the enormity of the responsibility placed on Omega Supreme. He is designed specifically as the Autobots’ last line of defense. It is his job to protect the Ark and anything else considered vital to the Autobot cause. He knows that should he fall in battle, chances are there will be no other Autobots left by that point to take over his role. His is a situation Omega Supreme finds both challenging and chilling. He would have it no other way.

BumblebeeDio3 758487 2007 movie

Another Custom Battle Damaged Movie Dio has popped up on eBay! matt1989cars gives us his take on the Transformers Movie with this battle scene dio with an added twist. One of the most exciting parts of the Transformers Movie is when Bumblebee is racing down the streets (with some help of a tow truck) and opening up a can of whoop-ass on Brawl. The aftermath after a hail of high heat sabo rounds and a shelling from bumblee’s cannons, Brawl is left in a world of hurt. There are a couple things that differentiate this dio from others. First, matt1989cars has sculpted Bumblebee’s mask, which you don’t see many out there. The mask adds to the realism and the use of the Bumblebee Evolutions camaro adds extra battle damage to the car. Second, he added much needed battle damage to Brawl, rounding out the intense scene in the movie which leaves Brawl in a heap of scrap metal.matt1989cars goes on to explain a little more about this scene: “This is a custom Diorama with three Custom painted and modified Transformers (deluxe figures). Everything in the pictures is included with this auction. Bumblebee has modifies too his legs, gun, head, and shoulder guns(also a real like chain is included to wrap around him)! Brawl has a lot of battle damage from his foot too his head and of course that fatal chest shot. Longarm was also carefully painted and has a hydraulic was removed from the tow rack, so Bumblebee can be placed correctly on the bumper. The box and instructions will be included for Brawl and Longarm only(carefully opened). Bumblebee was from the target exclusive two-pack. I will include the extra removed parts for Bumblebee in case you want to put him back as original. You will have two replace two knee screws only, which are also included.”This one is newly listed on eBay so here is your chance to own a great custom along with a one of the greatest battle scenes in the movie so go and bid on matt1989cars’ Custom Bumblebee Brawl Movie Dio today.

Custom Transformers Movie Hot Rod by Todd’s Original Custom Designs

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

HotRod1 747264 generation 1 transformersTodd’s Original Custom Designs has a new take on a classic G1 figure with his Custom Hot Rod made from the 1978 Camaro Bumblebee mold from the Transformers Movie line. By using an Energon Rodimus head and matching the paint color pretty close, Hot Rod is reborn. The flames pay great respect to the G1 Hot Rodfigure. The weathering is nicely done and paint aps in robot mode look convincing although I don’t really care for the pinkish/purplish accents. I would have either liked a nice metal or a black for those parts but that said, it is a nice figure and I enjoy seeing movie figure customs as G1 classics.

Masterpiece Starscream Clean Version – How to Guide by revlimiter

MPStarscream2 727808 generation 1 transformers

Although few and far between, the Masterpiece Starscream in G1 deco is becoming a sought after piece. Once again, Hasbro has taken some liberty and deviated from the true G1 paint scheme but there are some clever people out there who figured out how to bring Starscream back to his 1980’s greatness. Building off of a post by Optimus Scourge over at the Transformers World 2005
Boards, revlimiter goes on to explain in his short tutorial:

Masterpiece Starscream Paint Removal 101:
1) Weathering: The weathering is way easy to remove and requires almost no effort. A little rubbing alcohol (I use expensive TARGET brand 95% stuff) and a stiff paper towel make this a 5 minute project. And the panel lines stay there! It’s hard to remove them, but I didn’t want to anyway. You can just rub off the weathering (Gently) and the pretty grey panel lines will remain behind.
2) Nosecone: That silver is really on there. I roughed it up with a green scotchbrite pad before and during paint removal. Just light scuffing to break the paint up, not enough to cloud the blue plastic underneath. And you just use the same alcohol/towel technique. I pulled the nosecone forward and held it with my fingers in one hand (that never touched anything else) and removed with the other. If you happen to touch the cockpit with a alcohol soaked hand, bad things might happen. Clear plastic hates alcohol.
3) Thruster covers: That paint is really on there, but scrubbing and protecting the blue tail fins with one hand got it all clean within about 30 minutes.

Custom Transformers Movie Galvatron by sainte_786

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Galvatron1 781580 2007 movieAnother Transformers Movie Galvatron Custom Custom has surfaced on eBay. Staying true to the G1 Galvatron, sainte_786 has added a cannon which mounts on the arm and the colors compliment the original nicely. I like the way that the orange accents looked weathered, like they have seen fierce battles. The purple is a great shade, which pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 figure from the 1980’s. The Matrix necklace is adds a nice touch to the figure. If Galvatron ever made into the Transformers Movie sequel, as a reincarnation of Megatron, saint_786’s version definitely is one that Michael Bay should note. Go head over to eBay and bid on this awesome Custom Transformers Movie Galvatron!

Galvatron4 777045 2007 movieAs for Galvatron’s history, here is some background on this evil Decepticon: In the year 2005, the Decepticons launched a failed attempt to capture Autobot City on Earth. In the process, Decepticons leader Megatron was gravely wounded, though not necessarily mortally. During their retreat from Earth, the Decepticons had to abandon many of their beaten warriors to cold space, whether or not they were beyond repair. Craving the leadership, Starscream also threw Megatron’s body overboard. Eventually, Megatron was approached by a being of god-like power: Unicron. They talked and a bargain was arrived at. Unicron would save Megatron’s life and provide him with a new body and new troops, and Megatron would destroy the Matrix of Leadership for Unicron. Deciding that a new and more powerful body would be needed, Unicron turned Megatron into Galvatron.

Custom Transformers Devastator Generation One – Destruction of Autobot City by bromen238pxk

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Devastator7 798813 generation 1 transformersbromen238pxk has outdone himself and created a scene that is surely sought after. He brings us this one of a kind sculpture with amazing detail. This Custom Devastator Diorama was built completely from scratch and definitely shows off the talent of this customizer. One of my favorite parts of this diorama is the facial expression he molded for Devastator, which brings out the ruthlessness of this Decepticon. Expressions are really hard to capture with customs, especially ones built from scratch, but bromen238pxk has captured the essence of Devastator’s character and persona. I also like the way bromen238pxk portrays destruction with the flames in the diorama, which adds the realism.

Devastator9 787345 generation 1 transformers

bromen238pxk gives us a little taste of how much effort was put into this awesome piece, “This auction is for my custom built and painted Devastator statue with diorama. I built Devastator from a variety of toy parts, as well as custom sculpted head, hands, arms, and a completely scratchbuilt diorama. The diorama was constructed from floral foam, sealed with plaster, painted and detailed. The entire piece is huge. The figure itself stands around 17 inches tall, with an armspan of about 22 inches. The base is 23 inches across the front, and 15 inches front to back. The tallest building stands 23 inches tall. The sculpture itself represents a scene from the 1986 animated movie. The Decepticons are blitzing Autobot City, and the Constructicons form Devastator to breach their defenses. Devastator has the sheer power to tear the city apart with his bare hands. This piece was a true labor of love, and has hundreds of hours of work put into it.”

Custom Classics Trailbreaker #2 Made from Movie Figure Dropkick. Figure was Dissembled, Washed, Masked and airbrushed. Legs and arms were than painted with chrome detail and battle wear. Custom stickers professionally printed on Vinyl were then applied. Custom packaging made to resemble the past with a piece of the future. Custom Optimus Prime Transformers Movie Custom Voyager Class Figure by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

OptimusPrimeFB 005 700199 jin saotome customizers 2Jin Saotome is on a roll with his latest Transformers Movie Custom Battle Damaged Optimus Prime in Voyager Class scale. One aspect of this Optimus Prime that sets it apart from the rest is the removable truck back! With the Voyager Class Optimus Prime, the original figure suffered from hunchback syndrome but Jin has found the key to making this figure tolerable: the removable truck back! Removing the hood from Prime’s back really makes this figure sleek and agile. The paint job reflects one heck of a battle that happened at the end of the movie and what always puzzled me was that Prime’s Truck mode (and all of the Autobots) looked immaculate even after a opening a big can of whoop a$$ on the Decepticons. Jin’s truck mode actually reflects what Prime would look like before he had a chance to hit the car wash. The cracked windshield is a nice touch too (I wonder what auto insurance Prime has…).As Jin states, “This auction is for an 8″ tall custom ‘Final Battle’ Optimus Prime figure with removable truck back (ah hah, finally!) removable gun-hand, and twin missile firing smokestacks. He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Prime in all sorts of awesome Autobot-leading poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms just like the store-bought Voyager Optimus Prime and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. Instructions are included because let’s face it these suckers are like skill-puzzles sometimes.

OptimusPrimeFB 003 705338 jin saotome customizers 2This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Handle it, pose it, but don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. Oh man, Prime looked like he was almost down for the count at the end of the Transformers movie, all dinged up and beat to hell! Now you can own a true battle-damaged Prime with a super-detailed paint job that will rival anything you’ll see on the shelves. Prime here has been painted with multiple layers of shadows, metallic detailing, highlights, battle wear, scuffs, mud splatters, oil splatters, burn marks… you name it and he’s been through it. But it’s not just the paint, Optimus Prime’s sculpt has been changed to reflect all the damage he took fighting Megatron, looking like he stepped right off the screen with gouges, dents, and blast damage! His vehicle mode has been given damage, not just his robot form for true movie-accuracy. You can remove Prime’s right hand for an oversized fusion cannon and actually remove his funky truck-cab-backpack that was hindering the original figure. Prime’s head has been refitted with a balljoint so he can look around in all directions now.

Galvatron Transformers Movie Custom by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Galvatron 002 778021 jin saotome customizers 2From the ashes of the Transformers Movie Voyager Class Megatron comes Jin Saotomes’s Custom Movie Galvatron. Michael Bay should be looking to the talent of the Transformers customizers for Transformers Movie 2 (sequel) ideas. In the movie, Megatron’s remains were disposed of into the Laurentian Abyss by the U.S. Armed Forces, along with the other dead Decepticons. Jin Saotome gives rise to Galvatron, Megatron’s soul embodied into to a new being. Movie Galvatron figure with removable back wings and firing arm cannon/cockpit. He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Galvatron in all sorts of awesome Autobot battling poses and he’ll look great in every one. Handle it, pose it, but don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. By now you’ve probably seen the Transformers movie, right? Then you’re right, there is no Galvatron in there. He may show up in the sequel but this is my own take on Megatron’s second incarnation, mixing movie style and G1 style together with one figure. I created this custom from my own vision, which means you won’t find a figure like this anywhere in the world. He’s unique, purple, and spikey! He features poseable fingers where the wrists extend to give you an upwards/downwards reach, new detailing with spikes and such, a moving containment shield that contains the AllSpark energy that was released when Sam fried a hole in his chest in the first movie (mystical life-creating AllSpark energies not included) and a removable cannon and wing sections. The wings flip out into different positions and he really looks quite menacing despite being a large purple robot. Hey, if the Sentinels can get away with it so can Galvatron!”If you are unfamiliar with Galvatron please read on below:

Jetfire Masterpiece Custom Transformers Made from Yamato VF-1S 1/48 by deafinoneear

the gang 776518 generation 1 transformers(Someone does not belong in this Masterpiece lineup! Can you guess who?)

The Masterpiece line has been a huge hit for Takara and the figure line keeps growing (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Ultra Magnus, Skywarp). What if Takara made a Masterpiece Jetfire? deafinoneear shows you what it might look like with his custom Masterpiece Jetfire from a Yamato VF-1S 1/48.

I think I can speak for most when I say that Jetfire is one of the most popular Transformers from the Generation One line back in the 1980’s. As with any Masterpiece Transformers, collector’s love the scale and G1 molds that are used to portray their favorite characters. This custom is no exception! The scale for this Jetfire is very close to Optimus Prime’s scale (with Jetfire’s armor just reaching Optimus’ head) but without the armor Jetfire comes up to his shoulder. No detail was spared when creating this G1 Classic. For this one, I am letting the pictures do the talking so enjoy the show and make sure you bid on this one of a kind Custom Masterpiece Jetfire!

Wheeljack Transformers Movie Custom Made from 2009 Camaro Bumblebee by darthleon_customs

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

wheeljack5 799049 darthleon customizersUsing the 2009 Bumblebee concept Camaro as an inspiration, darthleon_customs brings us a Generation 1 treat with his Custom Wheeljack

Generation 1 Transformer. This version of Wheeljack is amazing! One thing that struck me about this custom was the excellent repurposing of the 2009 Camaro Bumblebee mold to make a G1 classic.
Wheeljack’s head is very accurate to his G1 counterpart and the faceshield that makes this figure unique fits nicely over the existing Bumblebee head. By leaving the mouth exposed and the top of the head, darthleon_customs takes Wheeljack to the next level by giving him a more robotic look with a human touch. In car mode, the detail on the paint pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 classic. Without overtly putting Autobot stickers on the car, Wheeljack can continue to hide in plain site, a welcome change from the original.
darthleon_customs urges you to bid early as I am sure this one will be hot and very sought after. Check out his Custom Wheeljack on eBay as he has more customs coming!

Beastbox Custom Transformers Generation 1 Movie Style by Fugayzie

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

bb8 782696 2007 movieGeneration 1 customs are always a nice to see, especially when they are repurposed from the Transformers Movie. Since there were only a handful of Transformersin the Movie (Bumblebee, Megatron, Optimus Prime, Starscream, etc.), Hasbro produced figures that were not in the Movie. One of the figures that did not appear in the movie was a video game controller named High Score 100 from the Real Gear subline.

beastbox 723981 2007 movie
If you are not familiar with Beastbox, read more about him below:

Beastbox basic function is an interrogator

His violent temper overcomes his natural curiosity

More willing to whittle down his captives with his fists than with his words

Few survive his interrogations long enough to reveal anything useful

Can record up to 6000 hours of testimony

Equipped with two compression cannons, which crush a target with tons of compressed air

“Speak now if you intend to ever speak at all” bbalt1 747869 2007 movie Fugayzie had a great idea to make a relatively unattractive Transformer in the subline into a icon of the 1980’s. I would like to see more customizers try and stretch their imagination and take the Movie Transformers back to the future and make more generation one icons come back to life. Custom Battle Damaged Bumblebee and Longarm Transformers Movie Diorama by passiondesignsinc

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

BumblebeeDio1 713529 2007 movieOne of the most gut wrenching parts of the Transformers Movie is when Starscream rips through the city and sends a hail of missiles raining down on the Autobots and leaves Bumblebee in disarray in the aftermath. passiondesignsinc has captured the feeling, mood, and what it would be like to witnesses this first hand with his Custom Battle Damaged Bumblebee and Longarm Transformers Movie Diorama

. As he describes in his auction page below, he is really excited to bring something different to the collectors of custom Transformers:
“Now this is a custom that I’m very excited about. It’s a slight recreation of a battle scene with in this summer’s blockbuster movie “Transformers”. “”"”" Spoilers”"” Now Bumblebee gets blasted during the big fight and loses his legs. Next thing you know, his new human friends are straping him to a towtruck and helping him to keep fighting. The minute I saw the Longarm Towtruck Figure I had to do this diorama. But with a slight added bonus Longarm comes with flashing lights, a trick I learned from Jin using Barricade roof lights . Bumblebee has been customized for battle damaged, re-paint from different metallic washes, drybrushing etc …. Longarm also has slight been repaint, the same, but with running lights. This auction is for 2 custom Transformers and the diorama based! . It’s a 3 for 1 deal, get while its hot!!!!!!!”

BumblebeeDio4 759170 2007 movie

I personally love the city scape that he designed as his creation looks like all hell broke loose on the streets (you can even see water effects from the busted fire hydrant). As for the Transformers themselves, passiondesignsinc has taken some liberty in his interpretation of what happened to Bumblebee in the movie (getting ripped at the legs not at the waist) but he explains his decision in his own words, “it’s my creation” and he wanted to keep the ability to transform Bumblebee and breaking the legs simply would not have worked. I actually think this was a brilliant idea as you can do so much more with the dio this way.
BumblebeeDio6 778324 2007 movie
If you notice carefully, he has tried to bring a human element to Bumblebee with the creation of an exposed robotic spine from a Doc Oc tentacle. This really adds a higher level of detail and goes well beyond the interpretation of the movie and delves deeper into the mechanics and underlying construction of Bumblebee. I like the way he used scrap wire to give that freshly shredded look to the wire as it really looks like Bumblebee has a spine that connects and gives him the ability to move his arms and legs.
Go check out passiondesignsinc’s Custom Battle Damaged Bumblebee and Longarm Transformers Movie Diorama as it is a real treat to see something different in the Transformers Customs arena. I am super impressed by his work, making the decision to deviate from the movie, and the overall quality of the custom work as this dio is on steroids and there are so many possibilities for display!

Leader Class Nemesis Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Movie by zildjian

Tags: , , , , , , ,

leadernemesis4 701312 2007 moviezildjian brings us a one of a kind Leader Class Custom Nemesis Prime with a slick black paint job and some extras I wish the Hasbro version came with! The first thing that would strike anyone looking at this figure are the long, chrome smoke stacks that tower over this evil one. Although I do feel the smoke stakes are a bit too long, this would be a very nice addition to the Leader Class Optimus Prime that Hasbro produces. The figure is complimented by chrome and silver accents and the finishing touches are put in by piercing red eyes. This is one of the best Nemesis Prime customs I have seen in a very long time. The paint quality seems flawless and smooth and you can also see some light reflecting off of the hood in some of pictures. Let’s hear how zildjian describes his process for creating his custom Nemesis Prime:

leadernemesis9 789650 2007 movie

“This auction is for a Transformers the Movie custom figure of NEMESIS PRIME!! This figure started out as a Leader Class Optimus Prime produced by Hasbro! I disassembled the entire figure, primed each part, then painted each part with flat black, metallic black, blood red, and a very special MIRROR CHROME on the robotic parts. You will NOT see another figure with this type of chrome look!! This figure had well over 40 pieces when taken apart, and took quite a long time to complete. He was also given new extended, more dynamic and accurate smoke stacks, as well as more firepower that connect to his arms with rare earth magnets.” If you would like to read more about Nemesis Prime, read more about his character as he appears in the comics below.

leadernemesis6 712353 2007 movie

In Transformers Universe, Nemesis Prime was a Cybertronian leader (Most likely an alternate form of Optimus Prime) from another dimension conquered by Unicron. In that reality Prime was defeated by the Herald of Unicron known as Megazarak. Captured, it had its spark tortured and experimented on by the Chaos Bringer. Unicron kept the Prime locked in a state of unbeing, it’s spark separated from body, yet prevented from joining the All-Spark. Tortured for an eternity until pain became indistinguishable from pleasure and the former Autobot longed for only this sensation. Broken, he was reformatted into Nemesis Prime and granted Unicron’s Dead Matrix, the former Primes’ Matrix which during the centuries of torture had rotted and been perverted into a weapon capable of annihilating Primus, just as the Autobot Matrix possesses the power to destroy Unicron.

Transformers The Movie Custom Figure Greatest Hits by pairadocs-design PART 1

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I thought I would celebrate the Transformers Movie DVD release by highlighting some of my favorite customizers and their Movie customs. pairadocs-design, an extremely talented customizer, has made several Transformers Movie customs that are noteworthy. Tonight I will focus on 2 of his superb Transformers:

Blackout2 730813 2007 movieBlackout
Aside from the short introduction on how the Transformers ended up on earth, the first Transformer we see that opens a severe can of whoop ass is Blackout! Blackout and his minion Scorponok are ordered by Starscream to attack the SOCCENT Forward Operations Centre in Qatar, disguised as a MH-53M Pave Low IV helicopter that was apparently shot down over Afghanistan. I was in awe as Blackout destroyed everything in his path and tossed tanks around like pieces of paper. pairadocs-design has truly captured the sinister nature of this evil Decepticon with his Custom Blackout.

ProtoformPrime2 787408 2007 movieProtoform Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime has been an icon for more than 25 years. Before the Movie came out in theaters, there were two sneak preview toys that hit the shelves. Protoform Optimus Prime was one of them. I initially passed on the toys and left them on the shelves but after I saw the movie, my interest in the toys grew and I began collecting the Movie toys. The protoform figures were intriguing but Hasbro let me down with the inaccurate paint job. pairadocs-design has truly done a spectacular job with this custom and here is how he describes his Custom Protoform Optimus Prime: “Full-blown movie Transformers repaint… protoform version of Optimus Prime. Several layers of metallics here – first a metallic black base, then layered drybrushes of Oily Steel, Silver, and a custom mixed metallic light blue. Then accent colors were added in. All screw holes were filled in and sculpted to keep the figure one solid piece with no distractions.”

Bonecrusher Transformers Movie Custom by fugayzie

Tags: , , , ,

Bonecrusher1 796615 2007 movieOne of my favorite parts of the Transformers Movie was when Bonecrusher was chasing Optimus Prime down the freeway and they suddenly transform and Bonecrusher rips through and unsuspecting bus that was between him and Optimus Prime. fugayzie has taken a mediocre Hasbro figure and evolved it into something that you would actually be proud of displaying, capturing the true essence of Bonecrusher’s Movie version. fugayzie has really paid great attention to detail and added a much needed metal look to the claws, legs, and other exposed robot parts. Also, great attention was paid to making sure that Bonecrusher’s face was accurate, a detail that sometimes goes overlooked. He also added a nice weathered look to the automobile mode to give Bonecrusher a fresh from the contruction site look.

Bonecrusher2 757797 2007 movie In his own words, fugayzie describes Bonecrusher: “The original figure looked little to nothing like the movie characters paint scheme and was in serious need of detail, so I hooked him up! Feel free to transform, pose, and play with the figure, the paint is pretty dang durable but I recommend it not be played with by the little ones who might take it out side, or thrown around recreating battle scenes. While yes it is durable it is still a custom. This figure is highly articulated and is transformed just the same as the store bought version. The instructions are included so you wont have to fumble around with transforming it. A lot of time and effort went into this piece to make it as nice and as accurate as possible. Prowl Transformers Movie Generation 1 Deluxe Custom by jin saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Prowl 004 795419 generation 1 transformersOne of the classic Generation 1 Transformers is reborn from the 2009 Camaro Bumblebee Deluxe mold. Jin Saotome brings us this Custom Prowl, modeled after the 1980’s classic Generation 1 Style. What really sets this piece off is the new head that was put on the figure. In the black and white style of the older police cars, Jin really brought the features that make Prowl a force to contend with! With these awesome G1 customs hitting eBay, Michael Bay should be taking notes for future Transformer icons to include in the sequel!

Jin explains this custom Prowl in more detail: “This auction is for an 6” tall custom Transformers ‘Movie Prowl’ figure and soon-to-be-made weapon. I ran out of time before my auction but he will come with a weapon or two. I’ll have them added to the description before the auction ends. Prowl has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Ratbat here in all sorts of awesome Deception-arresting poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms similar to the Bumblebee 08 figure he was based on and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. Instructions for the 08 Bumblebee are included.

Prowl 005 758687 generation 1 transformers
Prowl 001 758712 generation 1 transformers
This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Handle it, pose it, just don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. What do you mean you didn’t see Prowl in the movie? You missed him? Ah-hah, just kidding! While we wish he was in the new Transformers movie we can only hope he shows up in the sequel. However I really wanted to make him and this is my vision of what he could look like. Obviously he’s modeled after the 08 Concept Camaro as Bumblebee is but styled in a police-theme. Prowl has a super-slick-n-shiny paint job, clear red lights on top (sorry, couldn’t make them light up this time, no room for the electronics) metallic weathering and highlights on his robot form, and awesome police-decals! He has an all-new head too and transforms basically like the 08 Bumblebee. You can adjust his chest section if you want but I leave it flat for a more G1/Alternator Prowl look. I’ll include a weapon or two later in the auction, I was pressed for time and didn’t get them finished just yet. I also apologize about the blinding white on him, my camera really picks up light colors and there’s a lot of detail that’s blurry there. Sorry about that! Trust me tho, he looks stunning up close! So, need a cool cruising cop for your collection? Know a friend with a shelf full of police cars? Then don’t pass this auction up!”

cm ratchet1 737352 2007 movieThe Transformers Movie line has really given customizers a great canvas to work from. This week, shyeah has created a beloved great from the 1980’s in his reincarnation of Ratchet!

As he describes his process, “I’ve redone the head to have a more accurate G1 look. Black wash touch-ups were applied to his arms, legs and torso. I also did some metal grey dry brush touch-ups on his roof rack. Besides the head and paint touch-ups, I replaced the original Rescue Ratchet hands with more G1 style hands. Also included are the original Movie Rescue Ratchet instruction booklet (Not pictured). A Big thanks to Jin Saotome for the various custom and painting questions that I had. He’s just awesome!”

Custom Protoform Soundwave Transformers Movie G1 Style Figure by rottensmurftoys

Tags: , , , , , , ,

ProtoformSoundwave 773940 2007 movie In the Transformers Movie, Autobots en route to Earth change their alternate modes into structures resembling comets for space travel. These forms are referred to as “protoforms”. In the Transformers Movie Prequel book, protoforms are the base forms for all Transformers on Cybertron (Bumblebee is portrayed on Cybertron as a protoform and later in the book Starscream, Barricade, and Blackout are seen as protoforms on Mars). Bridging the gap between the Transformers Movie and the Classic G1 cartoon of the 1980’s is the topic of today’s blog: Custom Protoform Soundwave.

ProtoformSoundwave2 745199 2007 movierottensmurftoys describes his custom: “Here is folks my version of Soundwave as a Protoform. He has multiple points of articulation and transformers just like this store bought Starscream counterpart. The two shoulder mount cannons are handmade as well is his head. The paint job made the joints tight so use care when changing. I use high quality Testors Model Master Acrylic paints. This is truly a one of a kind piece…don’t miss out.”

ProtoformSoundwave3 745214 2007 movieI share his sediments exactly! Don’t miss out on this one as I am sure Soundwave will appear in the Transformers Movie Sequel (Michael Bay if you read these take note! We want Soundwave!). Custom Generation 1 Hoist in the Movie Transformers Deluxe Style by strata32000

Tags: , , , , , ,

Hoist1 770986 2007 movieToday we are looking at Hoist, a Generation 1 Style Custom taken from the Longarm Transformers Movie figure. What a great idea! Take a vehicle that was used in the Transformers Movie to haul Bumblebee around and turn it into a G1 Classic. Using the recently released Longarm tow truck figure, strata32000 has created another Generation 1 masterpiece.

Hoist is another great figure from strata32000 (also see his G1 Skywarp too!). He explains more how he made him:

“Hoist was created from Longarm. Much like many of you hardcore Transformer fans I was very impressed with the blockbuster Transformers Movie this summer. I enjoyed the details of the robot modes best and like many customizers out there I decided to lend my own skills to create Transformable custom figures. When I saw Longarm I knew he had to be repainted in Hoist. It was just a no brainier. I took him apart, lightly sanded down the parts that moved/connected so that the figure could still transform without chipping and then masked all parts that I didn’t want painted. I then let it dry a day before I tint the windows blue. In truck mode he resembles G-1 Hoist pretty well, just a regular work tow truck. But in robot mode look out! He looks like a brawler. Hoist looks like he can do some serious damage to any Decepticon that gets in his way. His guns is very detailed and is a large part of his killer new look. I very carefully masked off the Autobot symbol on Hoist’s head. His face is well painted Now that Hoist is finished he needs his own package artwork. I updated his Longarm art in Photoshop. It now has a green face. It looks like it came off the shelf at any local department store. The package is in great condition. The bubble is clear and doesn’t have any scuff marks on it. I wanted to produce an action figure that hopefully Hasbro, Dreamworks, and Paramount Pictures will want to put in the next Transformers movie. This has the potential of being a concept figure. I hope that all you collectors and hardcore fans enjoy this piece.”

Custom Skywarp Movie Transformers in Voyager Starscream Style by strata32000

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Skywarp1 744641 2007 movieOne thing that Hasbro does to death are repaints! The G1 style repaints of Jazz and Starscream are just some example of how Hasbro can extend the life of their figures and give people a reason to come back to the stores.

Hot on the heals of the G1 releases comes this Custom G1 Skywarp made from the Voyager Class Movie Starscream mold. strata32000 goes on to talk more about his one of a kind custom:

“Skywarp was created from a Target exclusive version. Much like many of you hardcore Transformer fans I was very impressed with the blockbuster Transformers Movie this summer. I enjoyed the details of the robot modes best and like many customizers out there I decided to lend my own skills to create Transformable custom figures. When I saw Starscream I knew he had to be repainted in Skywarp. It was just a no brainier. I took him apart, lightly sanded down the parts that moved/connected so that the figure could still transform without chipping and then masked all parts that I didn’t want painted. In jet mode he resembles G-1 Sktwarp pretty well, a great looking fighter jet. In robot mode he looks like he belongs in the next Transformers movie. Skywarp looks like he can do some serious damage to any Autobot that gets in his way. His guns arms are very detailed and is a large part of his killer new look. His face is well painted with chrome and his eye are blood red. Skywarp comes with is original box. I wanted to produce an action figure that hopefully Hasbro, Dreamworks, and Paramount Pictures will want to put in the next Transformers movie.”

Custom Transformers Movie Frenzy by pairadocs-design

Tags: , , , , , , ,

FrenzyAll c 754668 transformersFrenzy is one of the Decepticons you love to hate in the Transformers Movie. His alternate mode is a silver GPX boombox (or a cell phone later in the movie) and his weapons include a small automatic weapon on each hand and CD-like throwing stars that fire out of his chest. His character is manic, and sometimes comedic. Constantly speaking in Cybertronian gibberish is what gives Frenzy a personality you will not forget. Despite his small size, making him useless against the Autobots, Frenzy proves irreplaceable to the Decepticons, single-handedly locating Allspark and freeing Megatron.

pairadocs-design captures the essence of this mechanical maniac with this Custom Frenzy! He goes on to say, “Frenzy was fixed up a bit from his original state… I added a bunch of extra pieces of “metal” detail, using styrene plastic to make him look more like the movie version. Also, I reworked his shoulder joints, adding movable ball-joints, so now his arms move in all directions, not just swiveling around like before! His gun-arm also swaps out, and his “throwing-star” still “ejects” from his chest too. I then painted him with high-grade, model quality acrylics – using several metallics, including a chrome finish… so he looks like a real metal robot!”

FrenzyClose c 742145 transformersThe articulation added to the figure and the realistic paint make this Frenzy one sought after Decepticon. I would invite everyone to check out this Custom Frenzy on eBay and track its progress! Also, go check out ActionFigureCustoms.com for the latest Transformers Customs on eBay!

Custom Barricade and Frenzy Transformers Movie Deluxe Figure by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , ,

BarricadeV3 003 712918 jin saotome customizers 2One of my favorite parts of the Transformers Movie was when Barricade and Bumblebee are screaming down a stretch of road in hot pursuit of each other. You really get to know Barricade and his lack Frenzy as they hunt down Sam Witwicky to find the key to the Allspark cube, and ultimate power to rule the world! Relentless is one way to describe the pair and Jin brings this dynamic duo to life!

This week, Jin is back at it again with his Custom Barricade figure from the Transformers Movie. There are a few details to call out and Jin is one of those customizers that goes the extra mile to get a movie version that spot on. As Jin states in his auction, “This auction is for 6” tall custom Barricade figure with light-up lightbar, Frenzy, and removable Bladewheel weapon. He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Barricade in all sorts of awesome Autobot-battling poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms just like the store-bought one and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. Instructions are included because let’s face it, these suckers are like skill-puzzles! This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off.

BarricadeV3 002 783208 jin saotome customizers 2
You may have noticed the store-bought Barricade, while a sweet ride, doesn’t look a whole lot like its movie counterpart. That’s where I step in! Barricade has been repainted to more accurately reflect his look onscreen with multiple shades of metallics, realistic detailing, highlights, and shadows. The proper 911 lettering is there on him as well. He has an all new set of hands and head, including a ball-jointed neck so he can look in all directions. You can also replace the hand to use his blade-wheel attachment that really spins! As mentioned you can transform Barricade the same way and will not affect the paint job.

Now Barricade comes complete with super-bright strobing red/blue LED police lights! These don’t just blink on and off, they strobe brightly and look exactly like they did in the movie, alternating quickly between colors at different intervals. The LED unit doesn’t get in the way of the transformation, you can replace the batteries when needed, and it even has an on/off switch underneath. Just raise the window and click it on for instant lights!”

Transformers Custom – Ironhide Voyager Movie Figure by digitalworld40

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Ironhide3 704553 2007 movieArriving on Earth at the same time as Optimus Prime, Jazz and Ratchet, Ironhide’s protoform lands in a swimming pool. Ironhide quickly sneaks away to the driveway, scans a family’s GMC Topkick pickup truck and reconfigures his alternate mode to a new camouflaged form (though before he does, he is seen by a little girl who believes him to be, of all things, the Tooth Fairy) before meeting up with the other Autobots at Bumblebee’s location.

digitalworld40 brings us closer to the Transformers Movie figure with his custom Voyager class Ironhide. He gives us a glimpse of how he brought Ironhide to life:
“This figure has been repainted to match his on screen counter part. He has multiple points of articulation, and he transforms just like the store-bought one. Instructions are included because these figures can be hard to figure out. This figure has also been sealed so that you can pose him to your hearts content. But keep in mind this is a custom and no custom is perfect so be careful when posing him. The details in his face really bring the character to life and must be seen in person! Iron Hide will look great on your shelf next to the rest of your collection as an accurate portrayal of the movie character.”

Ironhide2 703758 2007 movieThe attention to details are what makes some customs stand out more than others. For example, the silver detailing on the Autobot symbol on the tailgate of the truck adds a nice touch and really makes the symbol stand out. digitalworld40 sets this figure apart from the original Hasbro release in many other ways. Adding silver detailing to the rims, exhaust, bumpers, and door handles really makes the truck mode shine. In robot mode, much care was taken to replicate the face of Ironhide to match the Movie version. The original version looks lifeless compared to the fine detailing of this custom (see comparison below).

Custom Movie Transformers Optimus Prime by sainte_786

Tags: , , , , , , ,

CustomOptimusAmo 704086 transformersTransformers customs are definitely on fire on eBay! I would speculate more so due to the superb attention to detail by the talented customizers out there and the general lack of supply of the toys themselves in stores.

sainte_786’s latest custom is a Transformers Movie Optimus Prime and there are some very special additions to this figure. First, he added a “real toy miniaturized metal bullets ammo belt” which adds an additional level of detail missing from most Custom Optimus Primes on eBay. Second, the power sword is a weapon that Prime uses to destroy Bonecrusher in an epic battle that spans a long stretch of freeway by delivering the final blow between the chest and the neck. He goes on to say, “The flames were hand painted on the inner sides of the legs…the plasma sword is actually a translucent orange and I made the fist cover to hold it in place which snaps over Prime’s fist like a glove and the sword goes in the space and fits very tightly.

CustomOptimusAmo2 734255 transformers

My favorite addition to this custom has to be the ammo belt and if you look at the picture above, there is a bullet at Prime’s feet. Take a closer look at the level of detail on the ammo belt:

Custom Transformers Shockwave from the 1986 Movie by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

ShockwaveV2 003 772451 2007 movieThe Autobots and Decepticons, during the great Cybertronian War, crash landed on earth. Millions of years later, geological activity revives the warring factions – the Decepticons want to strip the earth of its vast energy resources, and the Autobots seek to protect the inhabitants of earth from that fate. And so an endless battle begins!

Only being 11 at the time of release of the movie back in 1986, I was eagerly awaiting the Transformers to hit the silver screen! I finally saw the movie and I left the theatre wanting to buy more toys! The movie was amazing and I still watch it to this day. The Transformers Cartoon subtly introduced new characters into the plot (for those who don’t know, I am being sarcastic here as the cartoon was well known for gratuitously adding characters to support the ever growing toy line).

Welcome Shockwave
One Decepticon worked behind the scenes on Cybertron and when Megatron lead his troops in pursuit of Optimus Prime and the Ark, Shockwave was to stay behind and guard Cybertron while Megatron was out to conquer Earths natural resources. Shockwave was stationed on Cybertron for four million years. Shockwave carried out his tasks on Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons were entombed on Earth. With little supplies of energy the planet had to dwindle. Shockwave briefly came to Earth and joined Megatrons troops in episode but returned to Cybertron shortly thereafter.

Jin Saotome, as only he can, captures the true essence of Shockwave in his lastest custom. The attention to detail is amazing (as usual) and as he explains:

“This auction is for an 8” tall custom Transformers Movie-style Shockwave with… *deep breath* removable right hand with articulated fingers, silver laser cannon hand, clear red laser cannon hand, light-up unit, missile launching claw with 3 missiles, gatling gun arm with six missiles, twin side shields, twin shoulder-mounted plasma guns, and Space Cannon base. You also get a high gloss black base with solid metal Decepticon logo to display him on, WHEW! He has multiple points of articulation, far too many for me to count so I’m not even going to try. This means you can pose Shockwave here in all sorts of awesome Autobot-annihilating poses and he’ll look great in every one. He transforms just like the store-bought one and changing his form around won’t affect the paint job at all. He comes with instructions because these figures can be like skill-puzzles sometime!

ShockwaveV2 008 734403 2007 movieShockwaveV2 010 734436 2007 movie

This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Handle it, pose it, just don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. It’s time for Shockwave to make an appearance again and this time it’s on a grand scale! This particular figure commemorates my very first Transformer custom ever, a G1ish Energon Shockblast. I have David Willis of Shortpacked to thank for making me realize Shockwave needed a better gun-arm and TFmaster (God rest his soul) for asking, nay, demanding that I host it on Transtopia, thus introducing me to a whole new world of Transformers kitbashes! I decided to go back to my roots and use that same Shockblast figure but needed to make it special this time around. And boy are you all in for a treat!

Shockwave features SEVEN interchangeable parts that attach with rare earth magnets for a perfect fit. His right hand has articulated fingers and can be replaced with any of the weapons too. First you have his classic G1 ‘clear plastic’ laser hand that lights up. Swap that out for a more modern silver laser cannon that also lights up at the tip. Need more firepower? Lock on the rotating cannon claw that fires three missiles! What, need more? Then attach the giant shielded Gatling gun hand that rotates and fires six consecutive missiles! Wait, you need even more than that? Then deck Shockwave out with twin shoulder cannons and replace both hands with his missile-launching weapons. There are tons of combinations here. Shockwave transforms into a massive Space Cannon that you can customize to look as you want it, the twin Gatling gun shields becoming the main laser array and lighting up. It spins, rotates, and looks fairly menacing there on its special tripod stand.

Shockwave has of course been painting with the same detailed applications I’m known for with various shading, highlights, metallic colors, and he’s even been sealed for extra protection. With a little ingenuity you can come up with a gun-mode for Shockwave (check my site and look at the old one) but I won’t show it here because EBay will require me to stick a gaudy orange plug on the end, heh. The light-up unit attaches to his back and can be plugged in to the different laser weapons he comes with. So, were you looking for the Shockwave to end all Shockwaves? I’m not making another like this. Know a diehard fan that would be your willing servant for life if you gave them this? Then don’t pass this auction up! Now for the pics, and there’s a lot of them!”

There is still time to bid on Jin Saotome’s Custom Shockwave Transformer on eBay so get on it!

Custom 2008 / 2009 Camero Bumblebee by Jin Saotome

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

BumblebeV2 003 747836 jin saotome customizers 2Having not seen any 2009 Camero Bumblebee’s in the stores, I am tempted to buy this work of art. After being criticized for the poor condition of Bumblebee’s vehicle mode as a ‘77 Camero, he scans a passing 2009 preproduction Camero and Jin has captured Bumblebee’s movie essence with this latest custom. Aside from the immaculate paint job, Jin has made some other additions that compliment the figure nicely. First, he provided a movie accurate head, which many of the current Transformers toys are lacking. Second, he added a removable arm cannon that slips off his shoulder so you can have increased poseability. It is this attention to detail that makes Jin’s customs very sought after. Jon goes on to explain more about his custom:

“This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Slip his right arm off at the shoulder and you can replace it with the cannon-arm, also jointed at the elbow for maximum poseability. Tho I don’t have his battlemask-head ready yet, it will probably be included in the auction so look for the added pictures later. Bumblebee transforms like the store-bought toy but it’s best to remove his new head so you don’t get it banged up underneath the vehicle. Oh, and no panel lines in car mode! There, he looks nice and clean this time. So, were you looking for a super-detailed Bumblebee with a face anyone can love? Know a friend that needs a hand? A cannon-hand? Heheh.. Then don’t pass this auction up!”

The cannon hand is a very welcome and much needed addition to Bumblebee. I have provided a side by side comparison of Jin’s Custom and Hasbro’s version. The cannon is definitely an addition that will net this custom big bucks in the auction arena:

Custom Transformers Movie Megatron Battle Damaged by aadsmith

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

MegatronCustom 765658 2007 movie
MegatronCustom2 765727 2007 movie
In Transformers the Movie, Megatron appears as a Cybertronian jet. Like all characters in the film, Megatron was heavily redesigned for purposes of realism and focus on an alien aspect of the Transformer race. He appears very bio-mechanical and after crash landing on earth and being frozen in the Arctic Circle for a couple thousand years, aadsmith has captured the carbon-scored look that is lacking from most custom Megatron Movie figures. If you think about it, the re-entry to earth would have been murder on his metal.

What I like about this custom is that the color is not a uniform silver but a blend of five different colors to achieve the just had an Allspark Cube set off in my chest look. As aadsmith stated in his listing:

“A lot of folks are going for a unified silver paint scheme on Megatron. I, instead, opted to use a broader brush for the drybrushing and used gold, bronze, red and brown for details to break up the drybrushed silver.

The bottom coat is Krylon Fusion black gloss, the drybrushed silver is Tamaya silver, the gold is Tamaya gold, the bronze is Testors’ and the brown and red are Games Workshop colors. The entire thing is covered with Krylon standard dullcoat. A VERY TINY amount of flaking occurs during transformation, but it’s mostly the extra black paint in the joints falling out – none of the exterior details are damaged by transformation. He has been transformed 4 times in total to test this.

The wing-folding-during-transformation gimmick still works, although the left wing does not fold out as fully as the right wing does. HOWEVER, with a gentle push, both wings will settle in to place in vehicle mode. Other than that, he transforms just like the original toy. To be honest, I’m really proud of how this guy turned out.”

He should be extremely pleased with how this Megatron turned out. This figure would make a great addition to any collection (even if you already own a Custom Megatron since the coloring is quite different. You can bid on more Custom Transformers on eBay!

Custom Movie Transformers Starscream by Jin Saotome

StarscreamGray2 714399 jin saotome customizers 2
StarscreamGray1 714435 jin saotome customizers 2
Jin is at it again with this excellently crafted and movie accurate Custom Starscream from Transformers the Movie. One thing I really like about this custom is that the gray is spot on to what the military color is and, since Starscream copied a military vehicle for his alternate state, this custom brings that mode to life. Starscream spends a lot of time in the movie in his F22 mode so it is nice to see how Jin brings this aspect of Starscream to life. Let’s see how Jin describes his process for creating Starscream:

This time around I’ve given SS completely new redesigned, fully poseable arms with hands. Finally he can look as menacing as he did onscreen, ready to rip his Autobot opponents apart with deadly digits! The arms can be removed for jet-mode in order to give it a slimmed down look like the real Raptor F-22. Starscream’s head is now on a ball-joint that allows him to look around in all positions as well. The tan paintscheme has been replaced with gray, much like the real F-22’s look and fully loaded with shading, weathering, highlights, and multiple metallic tones on his robot body. Check out his face… Starscream looks downright evil now just as he should! Check out the classic Air Force symbol on his wing in the correct place. So, were you looking for a darker, grittier Starscream for your collection? Know a friend in the Air Force who flies one of these F-22 Raptors? Then don’t pass this auction up!!

I would agree! Do not pass this auction up! The addition of ball joints is a very nice add to the figure as many times Transformers suffer from the lack of poseability. Putting his head on a balljoint was a great detail to add as you can bring Starscreams’s persona to life. You can bid on more Custom Transformers on eBay!

Custom Movie Transformers Leaderclass Brawl by pairadocs

Brawl Tank1 747962 transformers

You can tell which customs go the extra mile and which ones do not very easily. The detail on this Custom Leaderclass Brawl, for example, goes above and beyond simply repainting the figure. As pairadocs states in his listing:

“Brawl was cleaned up and his screw holes were filled in with a high-impact sculpting compound (Fixit Sculpt) and sanded smooth… you’d never know they existed (the two holes to open the battery compartment were left open though, so you can still get in there and swap out the two AA batteries he runs on when they wear out.) This results in a clean, complete figure that looks more like a “transformable sculpture” than a store-bought toy. I then prepped him and painted him from head to toe with high-quality model-grade acrylic paints… a COMPLETE repaint, incorporating actual military colors! The camouflage was done using an airbrush, for a nice subtle, realistic effect. The rest of the detail and weathering was done by hand, and the battle damage was done using various melty techniques… the end result? A Brawl that looks like he’s seen a day or two (or in the middle) of serious battle!”

I am sure this will go for big money on eBay and if you are looking for an excellent piece of art from the movie, this Brawl is the one.

Custom Leaderclass Optimus Prime by Jin Saotome

One of the iconic and classic Transformers of the last 20 years, Optimus Prime is the heroic leader of the Autobots. Although not like the original truck and trailer from the cartoon, Optimus has been reborn into a Peterbilt Semi with some attitude.

Jin Saotome, one of the most talented customizers I have seen, has take this Leaderclass Prime to a level many dream of. In his own words, he describes how he has customized this legend:

“This custom has been painted with an exceptional level of detail, and with paint that’s not going to rub or flake off. Handle it, pose it, just don’t give it to your little brother to play outside with. You’ll find that my custom figure designs are durable and look great as well. Now you can have the best of both worlds. You asked for it, you emailed me, you pleaded, and eventually I had to give in. Your Leader Class Prime is finished! It took a long time opening him up and taking out the gears, springs, and other parts to get inside his head. But it was worth the rewiring and now his eyes LIGHT UP BLUE! This was my #1 goal for the figure because his eyes are blue in the movie, however the store-bought toy featured yellow ones. So a high-powered blue LED was painstakingly installed just for you, the scrutinizing collector. But wait.. what’s Prime without his sword? Fold his hand back and attach the nearly six-inch long sword, powerful rare-earth magnets hold it firmly in place! The magnets are buried out of sight in the base of his hand and you can practically lift the figure up by the sword, they’re so strong! Do not get his right hand near your monitor, hard drive, or any other device that can be disrupted by high powered magnets.

Prime has been carefully repainted with various metalics, washes, highlights, and realistic details that bring out his robotic and vehicle form to their fullest. Screw holes have been filled and sanded smooth for a uniform look. Speaking of details you simply must check out Prime’s face! Not only are the inner sections of his eye painted but also you can see the Cybertronian hieroglyphics on his cheeks. All of Prime’s robot parts have various weathering and detailing done to make them look like real metal. In truck mode each of Prime’s blue lights have been detailed, the grille, rims, and whatever else needed to be painted in order to mimic the onscreen look of the vehicle. Prime has real metal smokestacks!! They can be removed for robot form and are slanted at the tip. Be careful you don’t put your hand down on them because they’re fairly pointy and will punch a hole in you. Now we know why Hasbro gives Prime short stacks each time, heh..”

If you want to own a piece of art, don’t let this one pass you by. You can find this custom and others on eBay!

Custom Transformers Movie Bumblebee by studiosunny

BB002 760399 2007 movie BB008 760434 2007 movieHasbro has never captured the grit and roughness with the Transformers movie toys. I came across this custom that I found on eBay and the seller studiosunny has done a tremendous job getting the fine detail with this 1977 Custom Camero Bumblebee figure. In his own words, he describes his process:

“I spent around 2.5 weeks to complete the little art work with passion and dedication.. The original piece is totally a piece of kid toy, the Bumblebee is without SOUL or Essence…so I focus my art work too add such elements, which turns out to be more realistic and dynamic after finishing…
Coloring is always my first concern, I added substantial weathering, different layers of smoke/dirty/rusting applied to the whole body, and trying to keep a sharp and smart unique yellow for Bumblebee, and I had used acrylic paint, back and forth dry brushing, to balance the weathering look for both classic car and robot mode for Bumblebee, all painting is based on the publication from Transformers movie guides…

I also added all movie like color/weathering/massive modifications to all the mechanical parts from Bumble Bee, for example,6 metallic twistable metal wire *at diameter 5mm are attached around the arms, wrist and legs, and those little work doesnt affect the transformation but certainly looks better afterwards. And the original screw holes are covered by custom made plastic mechanical capes, there may be around 10 screw holes around the body, I don’t remember now, just work and work…

And the original hands, are coming with 2 big holes, totally looks awful…I cut the hands without regret…then I have custom made 2 pair of mechanical hands for Bumblebee: (a) 2 hands with open figures; and (b) 2 hands in close figures.. And you may change the hands easily. These hands could hold the custom made ALLSPARK CUBE . The original AUTOBOT label is not so obvious and sharp so I have custom made it and re-finish from Bumblebee chest…”

This custom is simply amazing and you can check it out more Custom Transformers on eBay!

Transformers Movie Custom Action Figures

Tags: , , , , , ,

megatronhasbrovscustom 2007 movieAs an avid Transformers toy collector from the 1980’s, I was highly anticipating the release of the live action blockbuster, Transformers produced by Michael Bay. Although there have been several versions of the Transformers toys over the past 20 years, it was exciting to see how the movie would transform our beloved heroes and villains into a live action movie. The first time I saw the movie, I was blown away by the level of detail and the creative flexibility that was given for the movie. After leaving the theatre, I was off to buy the toys…

Given the artistic nature and gritty look and feel of the Autobots and Decepticons in the movie, I was expecting nothing less from the toys. Boy was I wrong! I was very unimpressed by the level of detail for the Transformers Movie toys. The paint schemes were very much off and contained very little detail from the movie. Oftentimes, they were just plain inaccurate. This lack of detail gave some promising opportunity for customizers of toys and did they ever take advantage of this.

Enter the world of Transformers Movie Customs
Taking advantage of the lack luster movie toys hitting stores, customizers have taken the Transformers toys to a level only imagined by the movie. Creating detailed and accurate paint schemes from the movie, these customizers have created almost a new art form and fans are paying top dollar to have an accurate piece of the movie. Megatron, for example, was the most inaccurate figure produced to date. As you can see in the Hasbro produced toy does not match the movie version by any stretch. This has paved the way for some very talented and creative people who have capitalized on Hasbro’s inability to give fans what they want by creating almost perfect replicas of the movie version.
