Customizers have many unique skills and one of them is the ability to look at figures that large toy companies are producing and repurpose them into amazing looking figures. Take EniamRej's Custom Star Wars Darth Malgus figure, for example. He took a Marvel Legends Electro figure and was able to create a killer Star Wars figure that would rival anything that the major toy companies are putting out right now. First, the sculpting of the armor on the chest plate and other parts of the suit are superb, especially for a 6" scale Star Wars figure. Historically, Star Wars figures are produced in 3.75" scale but they are now starting to make larger figures with their Black Series. In addition, this figure has a variety of accessories as well as an additional head, which changes up the look of the figure. The eyes on the figure on both head sculpts are captivating and engaging. EniamRej's Custom Star Wars Darth Malgus figure is available for Buy it Now on eBay so make sure to snatch it up while you still can!
"You don't know the power of the dark side!!!" I have always thought that Darth Vader kept his armor pretty clean while gallivanting all over the galaxy but Stronox has depicted the dark lord of the Sith as a war torn leader with his Custom Battle Damaged Darth Vader figure. I always thought it would be cool to see Vader's mechanics as his armor was blasted and chipped away. There are very subtle aspects this custom that make it great and add to the realism. For example, on Vader's left leg, you see where the metal meets the flesh where the lower leg connects to the meaty part of his burnt thigh. The figure also comes with a removable helmet, which looks like it has taken a licken too! To see more photos, check out Stronox's Custom Battle Damaged Darth Vader figure!
Since it is Father's Day, I saw it fitting to feature custom that fits in with the theme of the day and mod-ulicious' Custom Cosplay Steampunk Darth Vader Helmet fit the bill. If you are into Steampunk, Star Wars, and Cosplay, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship and the start of your own Steampunk Darth Vader costume. The coloring and riveting job done on this helmet is stellar and if I could imagine what a Steampunk style Darth Vader helmet would like like, this would it. Imagine what you could do with this! Happy Father Day to all of the Dad's out there!
As I Am Boba Fett said, "The Elomin species has never been made in action figure form by Hasbro," and I think I have to agree with him. Building upon comic art from the Star Wars Expanded Universe comes this Elomin Female Slave Custom figure. According to Wookiepedia, "The Elomin were horned humanoids from Elom who lived on the surface of the planet while another sentient species—the Elom—lived underground. An interesting factoid but I am more interested in the customizer's interpretation of this figure, which, if you have seen the comic art, it pretty dead on. I love the fact that a customizer is adding to the line up rather than Hasbro as attention to detail that customizers pay to figures is by far SO much better! I Am Boba Fett sums this figure up nicely when he said, "Need another slave girl for your Jabba the Hutt scene...or a female alien for your Cantina scene...here you go!" If you are, in fact, in dire need of a new figure to add to a cool new scene or just add to your collection of rare figures that will never see the light of day from Hasbro, check out I Am Boba Fett's Elomin Female Slave Custom Star Wars Expanded Universe figure.
"We are the Death Watch, descendants of the true warrior faith all Mandalorians once knew. Now my people are living in exile because we will not abandon our heritage. Our people were warriors. Strong. Feared! Now they're ruled by the New Mandalorians who think that being a pacifist is a good thing. They've given away our honor and tradition for peace. Duchess Satine and her corrupt leadership are crushing our souls, destroying our identity. That is our struggle."
―Pre Vizsla introducing the Death Watch to Darth Maul on Zanbar
The Star Wars Clone Wars series is a fantastic way for customizers to visualize new and exciting figures from the Star Wars Universe and Parasite Collectibles has create a killer set of Custom Mandalorians from Death Watch, which includes Pre Vizsla and two Mandalorians. It is always great to see new figures added to the line, especially when they are Mandalorians.
One of Darth Plagueis' greatest contributions to the Star Wars Universe was training Darth Sidious in the ways of the Sith and the dark side of the Force. By doing this, he enabled Palpatine to take control of the entire galaxy and bring about an age of the Sith along side of Darth Vader. Darksider80 has epitomized this iconic Sith Lord with his Custom Star Wars Darth Plagueis 3 3/4" figure. Uniting the concept art from various sources, it looks like this Darth Plagueis is an amalgamation of various comic forms of the Sith Lord into one cohesive and great looking figure. The skin texture that appears in the concept art was brilliantly translated onto the figure, giving him an Old Republic styling. Thanks to Darksider80 for giving us a glimpse of what Darth Plagueis would have looked like as an action figure!
Darth Plagueis, Star Wars, Custom Star Wars,
Growing up, Star Wars and GI Joe were the mainstays in my toy collection. I never really thought to cross the toy lines in battle. It never occurred to me to have Stormtroopers battle Duke and his gang of merry Joe's or have the Battle Android Troopers take on Luke Skywalker. When I first saw Psychotropic76's Custom Stellar Stiletto Rebel Starfighter, I knew there was something familiar about this one of a kind vehicle. After I remember its origins as a Cobra vehicle, I thought how cool is this!
Aside from the general shape of the Stellar Stiletto, this custom does not even resemble its former self pictured above. Giving the vehicle a Rebel scum makeover, this Starfighter looks like it belongs in one of the movies (in fact, if you look at the last picture, Psychotrpia76 has placed it in a cinema scene)! The carbon scoring and classic burgundy accents gives it the feel of a classic Star Wars vehicle. There is even a cool back story on this vehicle to make it fit right into the Star Wars Universe so head over to eBay and check out Psychotropia76's Custom Stellar Stiletto Rebel Starfighter and while you are there, place a bid to add this crossover to your Rebel alliance!
Mirko is a painter, sculpter and model film-faithful re-creator who specializes in creating film-inspired pieces. This week, Mirko has taken a very cool vehicle from the Star Wars universe and made it a thousand times better with his Custom MTT Droid Carrier and STAP. The Trade Federation Multi Troop Transport is actually a very cool vehicle but one of the aspects that is usually missing from off the shelf toys is that weathered and battle damaged look, which Mirko has added to this great vehicle. Taking a page out of the Sculpting the Galaxy book, Mirko has applied his skill and made a killer looking MTT that is sure to enhance your Star Wars collection. Not only did he do an amazing job weathering the scoring the outside of the vehicle but as much attention to detail has been paid to the inside of the vehicle. To see what I am talking about, head over to eBay and check out Mirko's Custom MTT Droid Carrier and STAP.
Taking the Sideshow Clone's to the next level and giving them a human look and feel is Darth Vegas' Custom Utapau Shadow Trooper and Clone Commander in 12" scale. I love when customizers build upon great figures and make them even better. I have a special affinity towards customs that look like actual people and Darth Vegas has mad skills in that department. I will also plug his Commander Ganch Head sculpt he has up for sale as well because that looks like a real human face!
According to Darth Vegas, "figure has been modified and weathered to help make it stand out in one's collection. An official Sideshow Toy Clone sculpt has been customized to give the trooper some character beyond the helmet. Admittedly, this particular one was influenced by the AMC show "HELL ON WHEELS"… gruff and scoundrel like, a true gun slinger amongst his ranks… It is a one of a kind rendition and will not be cast." The Hell on Wheels influence definitely gives this clone a unique look.
Custom Zero has solved one of my main issues with the Star Wars vehicle line...SCALE! I know that it is impossible for Hasbro to build vehicles that scale with the 3 3/4" figures but this is where talented customizers come in and this Custom Star Wars AT AT Walker stands 3.5 feet tall and is 4.2 feet long. This scale surpasses the Super Deluxe AT AT Walker that was produced in 2010 by over 1.5 feet! Custom Zero's AT AT Walker has some awesome battle damage and weather effects. Combined with LED's in various places and a one of kind design for the cockpit and the interior transport cargo area, this AT AT Walker is how I envisioned the Star Wars vehicle line to be some day. For now, Custom Zero is filling the gap with his 3.5 foot tall Custom Star Wars AT AT Walker.
Re-imagining the Star Wars universe in the Steampunk era styling is Sillof's Custom Star Wars Steampunk Bounty Hunter set. Sillof is a very talented and creative customizer who focuses on creating many different styles of Star Wars customs that range from Steampunk (like these figures) to West Wars (Star Wars characters fashioned to look like the Onld West) and World Wars (characters that look like they were from the WWII era). Recreating the Bounty Hunter line up from the Empire Strikes Back was a fantastic idea and all of the characters lend themselves to Steampunk style (yes even Bossk and Dengar)! To view each figure and to find out their Steampunkian names, head over to eBay and check out Sillof's Custom Star Wars Steampunk Bounty Hunter set!
"We will disperse into the galaxy in small numbers, masking ourselves, hiding amidst the enemy. We will infiltrate governments on every planet. All must be brought down for something new to be created. Together or alone, we will slip onto worlds and strike from the shadows. We will be invisible. We will be patient. All that exists will be torn apart from within. Darth Krayt's vision of the galaxy remade will be realized. He lives in us. The Sith will prevail."
―Darth Nihl (Star Wars: Legacy War 6)
- Katosuki has brought one of great Sith Lords to life with his Custom Star Wars Darth Nihl in Marvel Legends scale. Translating the concept art into plastic reality, this figure is a great blend of concept art from various imagery. I love the way the face was painted. The shoulder spikes molded to the armor bring out the comic like appearance of this Sith. If you collect Marvel Legends Star Wars figure, Katosuki's Custom Star Wars Darth Nihl in Marvel Legends scale figure is one to add to your collection!
Darth Krayt served as a Jedi Master in the waning days of the Galactic Republic. Eventually falling to the dark side and proclaiming himself Dread Lord and Dark Lord of the Sith, he took the name "Darth Krayt". Stronox, using his skill and talent, has made this Dark Lord from the Expanded Universe with his Custom Star Wars Darth Krayt figure. What I love about customizers is that they are always trying to improve their figures and themselves. For example, here is how Stronox has modified this design:
"Darth Krayt's shoulder pads have been modified for better positioning giving his upper arms a better range of motion, has had his waist modified so he is a bit taller, and he has also been given articulated ankles for better poseability."
The armor on the figure is intricately designed, giving the plastic a metallic like look and feel. Another aspect of this custom that is really cool is that the helmet is removable, revealing the face of this Sith! To check out more photos or to place a bid on Stronox's Custom Star Wars Darth Krayt figure, head over to eBay!
I have seen some pretty cool mashups in my lifetime but sometimes customizers surprise me and think of unique combinations of figures and his Custom Deadpool Madalorian Star Wars Marvel blends the worlds of Marvel and Star Wars like you have never seen them before. Using two very popular figure concepts, the Deadpool figure comes through loud and clear in the color palette and the design of the helmet, which represents the mask. Underneath the helmet, you can see Mr. Wilson's pock marked scarred face. Overall, I love the concept and it was very well executed!
The 12" line from Sideshow Collectibles is wildly successful but sometimes customizers out do the professionals and Mattman1968's Custom Star Wars 12" Furry Chewbacca is one of those figures that is nicely executed and very well done! What a great idea to add fur to the Chewbacca figure and it makes him look so realistic. What is a Wookie without fur anyway? The way that the fur is applied makes the figure look like a costume and if you did not know the scale of the figure, it is easy to fooled by this figure. In the picture below, you can also see that Chewbacca is nicely scaled to fit with the Sideshow line.
Straight from the Brother's episode of Star Wars the Clone Wars comes Thinkinink1972's Custom Cyborg Darth Maul figure. I was excited about the reintroduction of Darth Maul into the Star Wars Clone Wars universe but I was not sure what to think after I saw the episode. I actually felt sorry Maul as he looked so pathetic and nothing like his former self as seen in Star Wars Episode 1, The Phantom Menace. That feeling of sorry carries over to this figure as Thinkinink1972 has done a tremendous job capturing the cartoon version of the Cyborg Darth Maul and his spider'like self. The limbs were fabricated from wire and clay and allow for a range of articulation. Recreating the mechanical spider legs and abdomen demonstrates Thinkinink197's creativity as well as skill as he has mastered fusing metal and plastic together to create a great work of art and a Star Wars figure you will definitely not be seeing in the stores! I really like the way the metal weaves around the legs and throughout the torso, creating the effect of many intricate parts making up the walking mechanisms that Maul scrounged from the galactic dump. There are many more photos over at Thinkinink1972's eBay listing so go check out his amazing Custom Cyborg Darth Maul figure.
There is not enough Star Wars to go around for my lifetime or any fan's lifetime I am sure of that! The movies are one thing but the story lines of the video games, books, and the television shows really bring the Star Wars universe to life. Customizers, like Katosuki, bring the on screen video game persona's to life and his latest Star Wars Old Republic Custom Marvel Legends Female Bounty Hunter is a testament to that. This figure is not in your typical 3 3/4" scale but a 6" figure more in keeping with the Marvel Legends scale figures. I provided a comparison shot in the photo above and as you can see, the figure that was created did a great job at capturing the overall look and feel of the figure while taking some liberties with the design - as customizers should! The Bounty Hunter definitely looks ready for action so if you want to check out more photos, head over to Katosuki's Star Wars Old Republic Custom Marvel Legends Female Bounty Hunter as he has some great shots of the figure!
Tonight (technically 12:01 am on Friday) marks the re-release of Star Wars Episode 1 so I thought I would feature a Star Wars Custom in honor of the movie premier. Tonight, Mastercloner has a Custom Shadow Airborne Trooper up this week that also doubles as an ARC Trooper. When I first saw this custom, I thought it might be a repaint of an Airborne Trooper from the ROTS line but as I dug deeper and investigated, it turns out that Mastercloner casts his own helmets, which are designed to pop on and off and fit perfectly on the bodies. I don't think Hasbro has produced a solid cast Airborne Trooper head so this may be the first. I thought the Shadow Airborne Trooper was a great idea because the figure lends itself to more stealth action.
Debuting fully in the Star Wars Force Unleashed video game, Stronox has created an amazing rendition of this Star Wars icon with his Custom Star Wars Expanded Universe Starkiller figure. Actually, you got a taste of the Starkiller character if you owned the Soulcalibur 4 game, which he made his first appearance. There are several aspects of this custom that drew me to it. First, the resemblance to the concept and character are spot on. From the outfit to the facial expression, this figure captures the look and feel of this figure very well. In addition, the way the figure was painted was outstanding. The shading that was applied gives the clothing depth and a feel of soft goods when the figure is actually plastic. Overall, this figure is very well executed! To view more photos of Stronox's Custom Star Wars Expanded Universe Starkiller figure, head over to eBay!
Darth Malgus is one of my favorite of the Sith Lords and Katosuki has captured his likeness with his Custom Marvel Legends Scale Darth Malgus figure. The painting and sculpting technique used to make this figure give it a rough and raw edge. The texture of the armor and the sculpting on the face give Malgus that battle hardened look. I typically like a soft cape to wrap the figure but the hard plastic cape featured here gives the cloak a flowing look that adds personality to the figure. Katosuki also has other custom Sith Lords this week so make sure after you have checked out his Custom Marvel Legends Scale Darth Malgus figure, go see what other surprises he has in store for you by viewing his other customs for sale.
Less than 5 hours away until this Custom Star Wars Old Republic Darth Malgus figure goes away forever (or until the next lucky soul puts it on eBay again). I must admit that I broke down and bought the complete Star Wars Saga on Blu Ray so I am back into the fantasy from the Galaxy far far away... I told myself that I would not buy them but I succumbed to the dark side. At any rate, this Darth Malgus custom is cool on several levels. First, it is not a toy that Hasbro will produce any time soon (or ever). Second, I really like how the face was designed as the figure looks like it has been through hell during the Great Galactic War. I love the pits and craters in the head and face as it reminds me of how Darth Vader looked when Luke removed his mask. The customizer did the video game character justice!
To commemorate the Star Wars Saga launching on Blu Ray in a couple days, I thought I would select my favorite custom in the Star Wars category. Capturing the magic and fantasy of the Star Wars Universe, myaprilsky has done an amazing job taking a model to the next level with his Custom Star Wars Light Up Republic Star Destroyer. Using the Revell model kit, this Star Destroyer contains LED's and fiber optics to achieve the special effects only seen in the movies. Using cutting edge technology, the base was made from scratch using Laser cutting machines and a 3D printer. The placement of the lights looks like it is a fully functioning Star Destroyer making its way through the galaxy. The custom base compliments the model so well as the lights and effects play so well off of each other!
Ever wonder what life would if Hasbro scaled the vehicles to the size of the figures? With Michael Fright's imagination and ingenuity, you can get a glimpse into a Star Wars universe that is the right size for the figures. This Custom AT AT Walker is just one example of Michael's craftsmanship. If you notice at the bottom of the photo, you will see small figures at the base of the feet of the AT AT Walker but these are actual 3 3/4 inch scale figures, which goes to show you how large this AT AT really is. Standing at 4 feet tall, this AT AT is how Star Wars vehicles should have been made!
Along with the scale being grandiose, the detail inside the AT AT is not spared. The photo above is a shot of the inside of the cockpit and there is plenty of room for figures in this amazing Custom AT AT Walker.
You have to admit that it takes a lot of imagination to recreate the Star Wars universe as the toy line lacks play sets to recreate your favorite Star Wars moments and scenes but this is where appspot comes in and he has created on of the greatest scenes from the Star Wars movies with his Custom Emperor's Throne Room Diorama from the Return of the Jedi movie. I have been a fan of appspot's dioramas ever since I came across his Custom Tantive Attack Diorama back on February of 2008. The diorama scales nicely with the figures as the dio is roomy enough to house Royal Guards, The Emperor, Luke, and Darth Vader. A wider shot reveals the scale of the diorama (see below). Measuring over 2 feet deep, this Throne Room is constructed of foam and wood and based on appspot's other Dioramas, it is of the utmost quality and craftsmanship. I can still remember the first time I got a glimpse of the Throne Room in the movie theater in 1986 watching Return of the Jedi and now you can relive this great scene by owning appspot's Custom Emperor's Throne Room Diorama and making it your own!
Sillof's Workshop has taken the Star Wars universe to the Victorian era with his Custom Steampunk Jango Fett 6" Star Wars figure. There are several aspects of the this figure that worth noting. First, the leg, forearm, and shoulder armor are intricately sculpted and the design fits very well with the Steampunk era. Second, I really like the sculpt for the helmet and the way the sides curve in, giving it depth and making it more interesting to look at. The riveting on the armor completes the look of this awesome Custom Steampunk Jango Fett 6" Star Wars figure.
