Totally rethinking one of the toughest Decepticons from the 2007 Transformers Movie is Barbershop Customz with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Barricade figure. Using a Masterpiece Prowl as the base for the figure, he reimagined the character using the movie paint scheme. The gold face really pops against the darkness of the figure. I like the angle that Barbershop took with the figure where he chose not to change the face to the style of the movie figure. I think this was a good call since all of the Masterpiece figures are based on the G1 Transformers line. I have been a fan of Barbershop for many years and if you are too, come check out the past articles I have written about this fantastic customizer!
The Diaclone line from Takara was known for their alternate paint schemes and PumkinGonzo's Diaclone Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure mirrors this point in history. Using a brand new MP-10 Optimus Prime figure as the base, this figure is meticulously painted in finish resembling a subdued metallic look. No detail is spared on this figure, even down to the minute rivets that adorn the figure, which makes Optimus look even better! Let's hear more about this stellar looking custom from PumkinGonzo himself:
"This was an amazing experience to paint such a great figure but certainly a test. Took well over 40 hours to paint. Despite prep work, I'm listing this as a professionally painted robot display piece. It will transform but I've totally concentrated on the robot mode. Lots of thin coats of primer, using a very soft, smooth style. A build up then mixture of colours. He has got a slight metallic look to him. Metallic blue, metallic black on the lower legs. It's not a real shiny obvious metallic look however. There's loads of detail, all the rivets painted. The gun also has detail and matches the slight metallic vibe and the axe has a subtle two tone colour. Airbrushed and hand painted finished with a gloss varnish."
If you want a killer custom from one of the best, look no further than PumkinGonzo and his Diaclone Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Figure.
LEK is famous for his realistic paint apps and he prides himself with delivering the best looking customs he can possibly create and his Custom Transformers Ultra Magnus Mastperiece MP-22 figure delivers! Painted in classic G1 red, white, and blue, Ultra Magnus' has a metallic and distressed look. Sinking effort into every nook and cranny he can, LEK's version of the trailer is the most detailed I have ever seen.
The trailer overall is absolutely impressive. If you look closely, you see gold accents integrated into the trailer detail, bringing a realistic look and feel to the figure that the off the shelf versions are missing. I have been following LEK's customs for quite some time now and they just keep getting better and better as the years go by! This Ultra Magnus Masterpiece MP-22 Custom Transformers Figure will not disappoint and should make a glorious addition to anyone's Custom Transformers collection. Don't miss out on this one!
PumkinGonzo shows us what it is like if the leader of the Dinobots was played for the other team with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Grimlock figure as a Decepticon. Painted in a classic black and purple scheme, this figure could very well fit into the Shattered Glass line where in 2008, the Transformers franchise introduced an old sci-fi warhorse of an evil alternate universe, (akin to Star Trek's Mirror Universe and DC Comics' Earth-Three) where the bad guys are good, the good guys are bad, and (mostly) everyone has different paint schemes. One thing you will notice about the paint app in this figure is its smooth as silk appearance. There are also other fine details that make this custom stand about among the rest. For example, the silver rivets that adorn the figure give it a more industrial look, which works great for this type of the figure. Sacrificing the electronics to get the look that he wanted is what customizers have to do sometimes as the sword, crown and other accents are painted in that classic Decepticon purple.
Billmeister gave the leader of the Autobots a finish that he deserves with his Custom Transformers MP-10 Metallic Optimus Prime figure. Not happy with the stock coloring of the off the shelf version (who is really???), he gave Optimus a metallic look that more closely resembled the G1 version from the cartoon.
Just to give you an idea how amazing this paint work is, here is a close up (see above) of the cab area. He was able to create glow effects, which makes it look like the windows on his chest are actually lighting and dimming. You will also notice that the rivets on Optimus are painstakingly painted to perfection. He also gave the glow effects to his Axe but you will have to check that out on eBay!
The fans choice Masterpiece figure was voted Star Saber and paying homage to the original G1 Japanese Brainmaster is Xaviercal's Masterpiece Black Star Saber Custom Transformers MP-24 figure. This figure looks so much better as a Decepticon and Xaviercal nailed the G1 style and coloring. The finish on the figure looks smooth and the colors are all in the right place. To tell us more about how this custom was made and what inspired him to make is Xaviercal himself:
"Star Saber keeps most of the features the original G1 toy had, the main difference being in how the Brainmaster gimmick works: Saber's face is in the main body rather than in the Brain of Courage figure. Also he comes with an extra accessory that was not in the original figure, the shield Star Saber used in "Showdown! The Fortress vs the Victory Unification", which doubles as a "flight stand" for the figure when in its alternate mode. He also comes with two swords, one scaled for Saber and one scaled for Star Saber. I completely took this guy apart and repainted him into e-Hobby exclusive colors of evil redecos. I wanted to do the same but with the MP Version."
This figure is hot and is already going for over $250 on eBay so better place your bid while you still can!
I live for one of a kind customs and figures that are inspired by imagination and creativity, which brings to today's featured Custom Transformers Masterpiece Reaper Seeker Jet figure by PumpkinGonzo! This figure has a classic look and styling to it. The use of purple and blacks reminds me of the G1 Transformers line. I really like that the wings are painted a metallic color as they pop on the figure and make them stand out. Focusing in the smaller details, notice the purple engine fans on the chest, a great color choice to compliment the rest of the figure, which also shows up on the sides of the head, tying it all together.
The story behind this custom is great! From what inspired the creation of this custom to the help he got from family and friends. Here is more about how this custom came about:
"I had an idea of a demon looking seeker, and got heavily involved in this one and it was great fun to do! Brand new Sunstorm bought. Totally concentrated on robot mode. It will transform done carefully, but with the weapon and cloak it's all about a high quality professionally painted robot display piece. Airbrushed and hand painted. Numerous coats of primer. Very carefully, slowly painted with a build of a shades. Mainly a rich black, with slight metallic mixed black and steel wings with purple and red detail. The head is a dark steel/black mix to match the wings.
The cloak is a black fabric that attaches around the neck. The base is a mixture of black, steel, metallic black, purple and red all blended. High quality Decepticon symbols and finished with gloss varnish.
This is the first seeker in a set of three I have planned in this style. Next one will be late April, along with a black and purple Decepticon MP Grimlock. Special thanks to my wife for making the cloak. To Stormvaper, Stevil33 and TigerBlade (TFW2005) for their help with names and general chat."
What goes around comes back around on eBay and ThyVipera's Custom Masterpiece G1 Scorponok figure is making an appearance once again. The fan who bought this custom back in April 2011 is putting him up for sale and now is your chance to grab this bad boy! I originally featured this amazing custom so you can read the original article to get the details or head over to eBay and place a bid!
I am always a sucker for a meticulously detailed custom and Xaviercal continues to deliver high quality customs that simply make me drool. Take his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure, for example. Xaviercal mentioned that he gave Optimus a realistic appearance and he was not kidding! The plastic is painted to look like real metal and fine details on this figure can't be overlooked. He gave the leader of the Autobots a very gritty, automotive feel to him from head to toe. No nook and cranny was overlooked. Even went as far as applying some rub details to the tips of the feet as well as making his windshield look all grimy as if the windows had not been cleaned in a while. If you are looking for someone to lead your Autobots to battle, I would highly consider Xaviercal's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure as this ranks very high on my list of Optimus Prime figures. Don't let this one get away!
Custom Masterpiece Soundwave, Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Rumble, Laserbeak and Ravage Transformers Figures by Frenzy.Rumble
Up for only 3 days is Frenzy.Rumble's Custom Masterpiece Soundwave, Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Rumble, Laserbeak and Ravage Transformers figures (boy that was mouthful). Adding and LED to Soundwave's visor gives the Decepticon communicator a very unique look and adds to the persona that only the 1980's cartoon could match. Painted in the G1 color scheme, the deep blue body is a great match to the original figure, which plays nicely off of the silver, yellow, and red colors. Soundwave would not be complete without his spies so he included Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Rumble, Laserbeak and Ravage, which are fully customized as well. There is no better custom Transformer figure than Frenzy.Rumble so head over to eBay and check out his Custom Masterpiece Soundwave, Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Rumble, Laserbeak and Ravage Transformers Ffigures before they are gone!
Sculpt-bot's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Perceptor is the focus of this weeks featured post! Let's get more detail on this amazing custom in this virtual sit down with the creator of this great piece:
AFC: What is the custom you have up for sale on eBay this week?
Sculpt-bot: It is a Masterpiece Scale Perceptor Figure.
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
Sculpt-bot: With the design similarities between G1 Soundwave, and G1 Perceptor, I thought it was a natural transition to convert MP Soundwave into MP Perceptor.
AFC: How was this figure made?
Sculpt-bot: I scavenged a lot of parts from the original G1 Perceptor figure. Mainly the "microscope" portion, but I also used a razor saw to cut off many thin panels to add to the base figure. I extended the microscope barrel slightly to add a little size (still magnifies!) This wasn't really an issue in bot mode, but it looked a little too small in his alt mode. I also heavily modified the original G1 chest piece to upsize it to fit the MP mold. The clear portion of his chest was a challenge, as no matter what I did, I couldn't build a perfectly clear "lens" for his chest. I finally settled on a fogged crystal look, that still provided some translucency, but didn't need to be perfect. I shortened his legs slightly at the knees so that he was slightly shorter than Soundwave and Prime in bot mode. I wanted his head to be a combination of the G1 figure and cartoon design, so I built a new one up using the Soundwave head as a base. This gave his head the same articulation as the base figure. I built his G1 toy weapons out of scrap parts and some styrene. He was then painted up using custom mixed acrylics and enamels to match his trademark colors.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
Sculpt-bot: I probably put about 20-25 hours into him.
strikealpha247 brings us his Legendary Custom Masterpiece Transformers Ultra Magnus figure. Standing a towering 15" high, this figure boasts massive amounts of articulation as well as a very clean painted look to him. The coloring really brings out the classic nature of the G1 figure and pays a really nice homage to Ultra Magnus from yesteryear. I love hearing about how these figures are made so here is strikealpha247 in his own words:
"Using the Popular Classics Figure figure a new complete overhaul and turn him into the legendary Masterpiece! Ultra Magnus was carefully prepped and then airbrushed with various coats of the highest quality automotive grade paint available to bring out the realism for his main body, a truly awesome one of a kind piece perfect for any transformers Collection! Ultra Magnus is Fully transformable from truck to Robot mode, he comes with his exclusive fire power. He measures about 15 inches tall and very articulated. He has a ball joint head which come off when transforming to truck mode and ball joint hands that come off as well when transforming to truck mode. His power up fire power pack screws on to his back of his neck when in robot mode but can screw off for truck mode."
This is a fully transformable figure, which is fantastic given the size and scale of the entire figure. Typically figure of this size are more of the Action Masters type but not this Legendary Custom Masterpiece Transformers Ultra Magnus figure.
Starting with Hasbro's MP-10 version of the leader of the Autobots, ThyVipera has built upon a solid foundation and made it even better with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure. With the limited paint app from the original figure, I can see why ThyVipera decided to change up the colors to make them more deeper and richer. For example, in Hasbro's version, the blue looks more pastel and the colors make the figure looks like plastic. With ThyVipera's version, he has selected darker colors, even going as far as darkening the Autobot symbol on the figure's arms, which is a great, but subtle, addition to the overall look and feel of the figure. The inside of Optimus' trailer looks amazing as it got a first class paint app, bringing out the richness and detail of this hidden gem. An excellent job was done retaining the G1 feel while changing up the colors for this Custom Masterpiece Transformers Optimus Prime figure!
The Masterpiece Seeker Jet figures have been a popular canvas to create unique characters and Wilestbilame has used this mould to create this visually stunning Custom Transformers Masterpiece Smokestorm figure. The figure touts 3D fire and smoke effects and I must say that it delivers on that aspect so much that if the figure smelled charred metal I would call it 4D! The flame effects actually make the figure look like it is on fire, an effect that is extremely difficult to replicate in plastic and paint. The smoke effects are all over the figure in the right places. To hear how this concept came to life, let's read what inspired Wilestbilame to create this great figure:
"Smokestorm is the realization of a concept created by a fellow TF fan and good friend a while back that really grew on me as it's own character and a truly awesome addition to the ever popular rainmaker seeker army, being a smoke based seeker himself, smokestorm is not only able to withstand temperatures that would melt even the thoughts of other decepticons, but also manipulate the smoke and molten metal to adegree that he is able to use it to his advantage for stealth, and recoinassance missions, as well as give the full feeling of a "warm" welcome to any foolish autobot that dares come close! Smokestorm was customized with the highest quality automotive grade lacquer paint available and was modified on his hips to remove that undesirable hip kibble which when fixed not only gives him a more complete and streamlined appearance but better poseability not possible before! utilizing a unique method, I was able to replicate truly awe- inspiring three dimensional flame/fire effects on his wings, sidefins and tailfins through a very systematic modification process utilizing real fire for a really authentic burning metal appearance!"

There is nothing like seeing a G1 Optimus Prime to bring back all of those amazing memories as a child and Jbarb78 has applied a stunning paint app to the one and only Takara MP10 Transformers Optimus Prime figure. Entirely disassembling the figure, he brought out all of the detail in this larger than life icon. Some of the detailing is exemplified by the silver accents on the insides of the legs. In the original design by Takara, the leg pieces are just blue but in Jbarb78's design, you can see a more mechanical version, bringing out the robot detail that was hidden. You can also see this in the arms as well as the pre-customized version has a solid red arm between the forearm and the shoulder and the customized version has a layer of silver applied. You can see more detailed photos over at his auction page so head over and check out Jbarb78's Takara MP10 Transformers Optimus Prime figure!
I have always wondered where Soundwave stored all of the cassettes that ejected from his chest! That question has plagued me ever since the 80's but I will have to let this one go because Colosal Customs has diverted my attention to his Custom G1 Transformers MP Soundwave with, as he calls them, minions! The line up includes Ravage, Ratbat, Slugfest, Laserbeak, Headstrong, and Razorclaw. With LED's in the eyes and chest compartment, this Soundwave is not only unique looking but it gives the figure a different depth and dimension. The grip that I had with the original Soundwave from the 80's was the lack of articulation but Colosal Customs has fixed that with his added telescoping waist, ball joints, and hands that rotate 360 degrees. There are a plethora of photos over at his auction page so head over to eBay and check out his Custom G1 Transformers MP Soundwave and you will also get a closer look at the gaggle of cassettes that come with this figure!
Building upon the little known fact that Skywarp can warp to and from places in the blink of an eye, Wilestbilame brings us his version of this seeker jet bending space and time with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Midwarp Skywarp figure. Inspired by the customizer Frenzy.Rumble, this figure was created using the clear masterpiece mold while adding his own personal touch to the figure by painting the figure in an electric blue. It is this technique that gives the figure the illusion that it is ripping through worlds faster than the speed of light. To hear more about this figure, let's read more from Wilestbilame himself:
"Skywarp has always been an iconic transformer to me, while he retains the exact same appearance as starscream and thundercracker, it is the fact that he was given a unique personality and abilities that really made him a seeker all his own, amongst this was the very little known fact that skywarp has the ability to "warp" between spaces in the blink of an eye, giving him a strategic advantage in battle, if only he knew what to do with it! LOL, well keeping this notion in mind and inspired by a prior custom piece made by FR, I created this skywarp using the clear masterpiece mold, I took advantage of the clear areas while solidifying others in a way not just depicting him being in the middle of manifesting his warping ability but also in a more dynamic aspect, as if he were ripping through the fabric of space and time itself!! for this he was custom painted with the highest quality automotive grade lacquer paint available, his warping ray was Handpainted with several shades of blue to achieve a truly awesome electrical effect between his solid to clear areas for a more believable transition."
The overall electricity effect is what attracted me to this figure. The blending of the clear pieces along with the crackling electric blue ripples throughout the figure complete the look and transformation of a normal looking Masterpiece Skywarp figure into this amazing Custom Transformers Masterpiece Midwarp Skywarp figure.
Looks like Wilestbilame's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure flew too close to the sun and with a temperature of 15.7 million kelvin that type of heat is sure to do some damage to your system! The first time I saw this type of 3D effect on a repainted and custom Starscream was on Frenzy Rumble's version that he made a little over one year ago. The melted effect that is applied to the wings gives Sunstorm his personality and helps to achieve a really cool 3D effect that not many customizers are doing. He also changed up the shape of the wing, which I will let him tell you about:
"Sunstorm was also heavily modified his wings into a new batwing like shape to give him a more menacing look and his side fins were permanently attached to his now modified hips for a better look that sets him apart from his seeker brethrenhe was detailed by hand to bring out the detail on panel lines in his body and circuitry details and was also applied with a subtle flame camo on his body that might not be so apparent in the pictures, then again it wouldn't be camo if it wasn't subtle! lol."
For more photos and to place a bid on this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure, you know where to go!
Combining efforts from two other customers, Wilestbilame makes his childhood dream of creating a Dinobot a reality with his Custom Transformers G1 Cartoon Style Masterpiece Swoop figure. Using a custom cast kit from Sculpbot, hands designed by Fakebuster, and the ingenuity of Wilestbilame, this Custom Swoop achieved the look and feel that was inspired the G1 cartoon! The shading of the figure sealed the deal for me! Every now and then, customizers provide us with their inspiration for creating these great pieces so let's see what he has to say:
"Ever since I was a kid I always loved the dinobots, and apart from Grimlock I always had admiration for Swoop the truly awesome pterodactyl Transformer that really knew how to be as savage as his Dinobot leader. Sadly we never got a proper update to this legendary bot nor classics or MP, but thanks to master sculptor and customizer Sculptbot, Swoop has now become an awesome reality!! Utilizing a custom casted kit by Sculptbot I combined it to upgrade another transformer into a full fledged Masterpiece swoop and I figured I would bring him into the masterpiece line with a closer to the cartoon appearance than previous toys done a in the past. He features super articulated individual finger seeker hands(special thanks to Fakebusker for designing them), ball joint head, articulated dino head and jaw, wings fold via swivel for easy transition from dino mode to bot mode and for flapping his wings I guess LOL, embossed autobot symbol on dino head. I painted the sword to look as if it were lit up all the time and heating up, I wanted to bring back the glory days of generation 1 by recreating this masterpiece with his Cartoon colors, one of the things. I always loved about the cartoon and comic was that"shine effect" they were drawn with on their windshields and shading on their bodies, sort of as if the metal and glass had it's own shine in cartoon style, so I replicated that effect through a modern method known as "cell shading" and panel lining across his body to bring out a true cartoon style adding a more dynamic color scheme far beyond the simple repaint. Swoop was carefully sanded and cleaned prior to painting, after which he was airbrushed with super high quality automotive grade lacquers and slightly detailed with high quality acrylics, and sealed with UV resistant matte finish to preserve his colors for years to come!"
I will always have a place in my heart for the combiners of the 80's. From Devestator to Defensor, the Transformers had the market cornered on a toy line that was a huge hit on television and an even bigger hit on the playground. Nomad Customs has captured this feeling with his Custom Transformers Denfensor combiner and has done it on a much grander scale. Standing a towering 19" tall, this figure can break down into the five Protectobots. This is how the combiners should have been made many moons ago but thanks to customizers like Nomad, the figures are made bolder, badder, and bigger!
This goes without saying (but I will say it anyway!) that there are differing styles and color pallets depending on the medium which you choose to consume your Transformers addiction. If you are a fan of the G1 television show from the 80's or if you primarily read comics, you will notice stark differences in the styling and features of your favorite characters. That said, Wilestbilame has taken one of the coolest Masterpiece figures and gave it a comic color makeover with his Custom Transformers G1 Comic Color Masterpiece Grimlock figure. The blue, red, and gold colors are so vibrant, really bringing the comic character to life. I always love a great back story on why customers choose to make the figures they do so here to tell us about it is Wilestbilame himself:
"Ever since I was a kid I always loved Grimlock, especially the Marvel comics version, giving Grimlock a more cold, savage and strategical personality to the character as the true king of the dinobots, so since the style I've been using being cartoon style, at times some have dubbed it as more comic inspired than cartoon, I figured it would make sense to bring the comic grimlock into the masterpiece line with a closer to the comics appearance than the MP-08x that came out a few years back, he features one of the coolest gimmicks ever, COLOR CHANGING Blue to Red and Back LED Eyes for both Dino mode and bot mode, with easy access to batteries for easy switching. Special thanks go to fellow Floridian Customizer and Tfw2005 member Big Hank for his masterful LED Work!! I gave him a high contrast cel shading with dark tones of grey, yellow red and of course his comic exclusive blue paint apps, detailed the bolts on his grey areas with a lighter tone of grey for a subtle but welcome contrast and although I kept the light up feature on his arm I painted the sword to look as if it were lit up all the time which dims the light up feature but I think this looks better for the style, I didn't paint the crown of leadership simply because I like it's blingin aspect that gives a good contrast to the cartoon look. I wanted to bring back the glory days of generation 1 by recreating this masterpiece with his Comic colors, one of the things I always loved about the cartoon and comic was that"shine effect" they were drawn with on their windshields and shading on their bodies, sort of as if the metal and glass had it's own shine in cartoon style, so I replicated that effect through a modern method known as "cell shading" and panel lining across his body to bring out a true cartoon style adding a more dynamic color scheme far beyond the simple repaint. Optimus was carefully sanded and cleaned prior to painting, after which he was airbrushed with super high quality automotive grade lacquers and slightly detailed with high quality acrylics, and sealed with UV resistant matte inish to preserve his colors for years to come!"

Go big or go home! Xaviercal has definatley gone bug with his Custom G1 Masterpiece Transformers Fortress Maximus figure. Standing a gargantuan 2 feet tall, this figure captures the essence of the Generation 1 figure with the updated articulation and scale of the custom designed by a talented individual. There are many feature that have been packed into this great figure, including LED's and scratch built parts. The hands and sword were designed and built from the ground up. A lot of work went into this amazing custom so make sure to head over to eBay and check out Xaviercal's Custom G1 Masterpiece Transformers Fortress Maximus figure.
Completely repainted from head to toe, Xaviercal pays a nice homage to one of the most iconic figures in toy history with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime. Using metallic and base flat paint to achieve a look that this figure deserves, the reds and blues really stand out, which make it look it came right out the G1 cartoon. Not only does this amazing figure have the G1 feel that we all loved from the 80's, Xaviercal has also painted the trailer to resemble G1 color scheme.
Just looking at the figure in truck and trailer mode brings back that feeling I had as a kid when I saw the Transformers cartoon for the first time and Xaviercal's Custom Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime is the one to add to your collection if you want that feeling back in your life. Who knew plastic could be this therapeutic!
Mirage was one of the G1 greats of the Transformers line and Wikkid has produced this amazing figure in a much larger scale with his Custom Masterpiece G1 Transformers Mirage figure. Looking at the figure side by side with the original, it is clear that this enhances the classic version with increased articulation and overall style. A mix of figures were used to create this The base components are alternators Prime, Sunstreaker and Skids re-shelled with a 1/20 scale Ligier JS11 Ford F1. The head sculpt looks more like the G1 cartoon and colors are a great match, rounding out a very nice G1 Masterpiece figure.
Frenzy.Rumble is a customizer with a fountain of ideas and he is never shy about making his concepts come to life, which is evidenced by his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Mid-Warp Skywarp figure. Original ideas are what customizing is all about and this Mid-Warp figure is brilliantly executed! This Mid-Warp figure appears to be changing from translucent to black right before your eyes as the clear plastic blends into the black plastic with a fusion of hot blue in between the pieces. To tell us more about how he achieved this effect, let's hear from Frenzy.Rumble:
"Mid-Warp Skywarp was an idea I executed well a few months ago, using a deluxe sized, universe crystal clear seeker. With rave reviews and comments, and the urge to make it bigger and make it better; I went all out on a Masterpiece class version. Mid-Warp Sky stands approximately nine inches tall in robot mode (22.9 cm). He was built using a rare and expensive "Ghost of Starscream" Masterpiece figure. Spent countless hours removing the factory paint and details, and sanded then polished the clear plastic to a glass-like finish. I also modified his rear tail fins so that they don't hang off his hips and are permanently fixed to his lower legs. His display base is also custom painted, and include a very bright LED light which lights up Mid-Warp Skywarp from the ground up, adding extra effect to his teleportation."
Mid-Warp also looks fantastic in Seeker Jet mode so head over to eBay and check out more photos of Frenzy.Rumble's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Mid-Warp Skywarp figure.
Standing close to two feet tall, ThyVipera has created one of the coolest figures I have seen in a long time with his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Scorponok figure. First of all, the figure is massive and has earned the title of Masterpiece! The detail on each piece really stands out due to the attention to the paint app as the black washing of the colors give each piece of the figure its own outline. Not only has ThyVipera retained the classic G1 color scheme, he has gone above and beyond by giving the figure a battle station mode (see below). Scorponok is not my favorite of Transformers but the way that ThyVipera combined the classic style with a more useful alternate mode makes this one of my favorite customs I have seen to date.
A lot of time and thought has gone into making this custom the best it can be. Some of the cool features of the battle station mode include it being "heavily armed, with 4 double-barrel cannons, and 4 missile launchers." Figure, such as Cyclonus and Scourge that are pictured with the custom, can fit into the turret cockpits and both arm a cannon. Lord Zarak can fit nicely into the cockpit, commanding Scorponok into battle. To check out more photos of this amazing Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Scorponok figure, head over to eBay!
The pairing of two killer customs in a diorama setting is something you don't see very often and ThyVipera has pitted the Autobot and Decepticon cassette bots against each other in breathtaking MP scale with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Soundwave and Blaster figures. In order to create the scale and richness of these 9" figures, ThyVipera had to make them Actionmasters, which means that they do not transform into their alternate modes, which is fine by me as the robot modes are more impressive and nicer to look at, especially the way the diorama sets them off. These customs retain the G1 look and feel we all grew up with as kids and to see how these figures scale in comparison to the figures from the 80's, here is a shot of ThyVipera's Custom MP Soundwave and the G1 Soundwave:
Another very cool aspect to these figures is the diorama, which you don't see very much. These figures are meant to be displayed and a dio can really add so much more to the presentation of the figures. You can imagine this battle raging on the planet Cybertron as Soundwave and Blaster continue their epic struggle to retain their respective titles as the best outdated 80's music players! To view more photos of this dynamic duo, head over to eBay to check out these awesome Custom Masterpiece Transformers Soundwave and Blaster figures.
With 25% of the sale benefiting the Japanese Red Cross Society, Frenzy.Rumble has created this Custom Masterpiece Transformers Acid Storm figure in a charity auction that will help with the relief efforts from the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I agree when he said that he "knew he had to go over the top" when creating this figure and he definitely delivered on that promise. If you remember Frenzy.Rumble's MP Sunstorm, he had created melting effects and he did something very similar with this custom as he has made the figure look like it is being eaten away by acid. The places where I really love the acid effects are on the after burners (as you can see in the photo below) and the two air intakes by the head of the figure. Not only has he created some very cool visual effects on the figure, he applied glow in the dark paint apps, which gives the figure a whole new dimension.
Featuring a cartoon accurate head cast from the talented Frenzy.Rumble, ThyVipera brings us this Masterpiece Action Masters Custom Soundwave figure. Standing 9.5 inches tall, this G1 Soundwave does not transform into the obsolete tape deck from the 1980's but I find when you have a killer robot mode to display, why in the world would you want to transform it? The legs and arms feature a weathered steel look and a in addition to the killer G1 paint app, the cassette door opens and closes so Laserbeak can rest when he is not performing his spying tasks. The photos over at ThyVipera's auction for his Masterpiece Action Masters Custom Soundwave figure are also courtesy of Frenzy.Rumble, which is very cool to see collaborative efforts between the customizers!
Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire! Like the protoform Transformers hurling to earth and burning up on reentry, Frenzy.Rumble has created some killer flame effects for his latest Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sunstorm figure. Imagining how Sunstorm would rocket through the sky, literally on fire, as the metal is pealing and melting off the of robot brings the concept to reality and achieves a look that I have not seen attempted before. It takes a true artist and gobs of talent to pull off the burning, singeing, and fire effects to a plastic figure. Here is a close up of the work applied to Sunstorm's tail wings:
Frenzy Rumble's figure is up for sale this week on eBay so head over there and check out his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sunstorm figure as he has some really cool photoshop effects on some of the pictures where actual flames are shooting out of Sunstorm's hands. I know Frenzy Rumble is great but if he figured out how to make actual fire shoot out of one of his customs, he will be elevated to a God like level in my book!
Shooting for cartoon accuracy on a massive scale, Forgotten Forest brings us this 15" Custom G1 Masterpiece Cartoon Devastator combiner! In the Transformers cartoon from the 80's, the television version, like most of the Transformers at the time, differed from their toy counterparts in very big ways, but that did not seem to worry us as kids. Now that most of us are adults, we are looking to customizers like Forgotten Forest to close the gap in accuracy and realism with their skill and talent. The cartoon version of Devastator was a very blocky looking figure, which went with the animation style back in the 80's and this figure does an excellent job at portraying that aspect in the design. One of my favorite aspects of this figure are the three different head sculpts that were made for the figure:
As you can see, the three different head sculpts, which were scratch built, give Devastator the much needed personality that appeared in the cartoon. Not only does this add to the poseability of the figure, it brings the figure to life. Another aspect that I love is the scale of the figure, which you can see once you make the jump over to eBay to see this Custom G1 Masterpiece Cartoon Devastator combiner as a photo was taken with a G1 Bruticus figure.
Tapping into the evil bizzaro world of the alternate universe of the Transformers where good guys are evil, Xaviercal takes on this Custom Masterpiece Shattered Glass Transformers Rodimus Prime figure. This version of Rodimus works well as a Shattered Glass figure as the trailer doubles as a gun turret so Rodimus can do his evil deeds. Just like in the original Rodimus figure, the shattered glass designs are consistent between the hood of the car and trailer. I like the fact that the pipes on the trailer are muted in a matted silver finish rather than a chrome as it goes better with the overall look of the figure. The figure looks equally as great in robot mode with Rodimus sporting his signature evil goatee! You can view more photos of Xaviercal's Masterpiece Shattered Glass Transformers Rodimus Prime figure over on eBay!
With a percentage of the sale going to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Charity, Unavermin brings us his Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Shockwave figure that scales really nicely with your MP collection. Chockablock full of modifications, this MP Shockwave has a new custom made head, pulsing LED eye, click rotation feet, blinking LED laser hand, laser blasting sound, and hip missile detail. To check out the scale of the figure, Unavermin posed the figure with an MP Starscream (not the most flattering pose for Starscream but he is used to begging on his knees for mercy):
Unavermin also made a short video demonstrating the blinking LED light in his head and blasting so check it out after you make the jump to view his Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Shockwave figure.
MangaMike has taken on a classic hot rod and turned it into an instant classic with this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Big Daddy figure. Period pieces are some of my favorite customs look at. The original Big Daddy concept was a muscle car but MangaMike's concept does the figure better justice as the paint style fits more with the period of the 50's. The details on this figure are what makes it stand out among the rest. The flames, the silver bumper, the air intake above the hood, and even the black dice hanging from the rear view mirror complete the look and feel of a classic car. You can check out the scale of the figure below as MangaMike shot this photo with an Alternators Hound to give you a picture of the scale of the figure:
You can picture this hot rod tearing down the streets in the 50's and skidding into a classic diner where a lady delivers your food via roller skates. Not only has MangaMike created a great figure that will fit nicely with your Masterpiece Transformers collection, but he also depicted one of the true classic cars in American History very well. Building upon Megatron's G1 Military Commander, Sculpt-Bot brings us his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Shockwave figure. This figure was built up from a "G1 junker" that Sculpt-Bot had lying around and he also had to scratch build the gun barrel, which he added a very cool feature. Since Shockwave is known as a computer with legs and is ruled by logic and reason, in Sculpt-Bot's words, "this gave me the opportunity to make it a little more useful in his bot mode, so I put a built in, flip out, science station in it," which allows him to analyze his newest experiments! You can check out the gun barrel and science station below:
Along with paying a very nice homage to the overall look of the figure, Sculpt-Bot managed to nail the G1 purple color that made Shockwave so special! To check out more photos of his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Shockwave figure, head over to eBay!
Dubbed the ferocious fusion of all five of the Predacons: Divebomb, Headstrong, Rampage, Tantrum, and team leader Razorclaw, L.K. has literally created a monster with his Custom Transformers G1 Predaking Combiner Masterpiece figures. Standing a towering 14.5 inches tall, L.K. has captured the essence of this massive Decepticon. This version of Predaking is less bulkier than the original and the the rage on the lion's face in the center of the figures chest gives Predaking a fierce and intimidating look. I also like the decision to mute some of the colors and make them less loud as in the original G1 figures. This is number 12 in L.K.'s Masterpiece series and you can check out more photos of his Custom Transformers G1 Predaking Combiner Masterpiece combiner on eBay.
Only available through mail order in 1986 for those lucky kids who collected enough robot points and scrimped and saved their allowance to pay for the shipping and handling, Frenzy.Rumble created an updated version of this G1 toy/cartoon fusion with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Reflector. The color choice for these figures is spot as it looks like the figures were pulled right from the cartoon, in their classic silver, purple, and green color scheme. Not only has Frenzy.Rumble added massive amounts of articulation (compared to the original figures), he also added some cool effects, such as a light up lens and a hologram of the Decepticon symbol on the view finder. To show the scale of these figures, here are some pictures with their Decepticon buddies:
This is yet another example of Frenzy.Rumble's talent and dedication to creating the best custom figures! To check out more photos and to place a bid on Frenzy.Rumble's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Reflector, head over to eBay!
Omega Supreme was a cool concept in the 80's but lacked sufficient playability and articulation. How many times could you watch him roll around in a circle on the track? The customizer with a unique name, HappyMealHater, also known as Aaron Aufdenberg, has figure solved this problem by creating this Custom Omega Supreme Transformers G1 Masterpiece figure that is chalk full of articulation and stands a towering 20" tall from foot to top of the tracks:
As you can see from the photo, the MP Grimlock is used as a comparison shot to show the massive scale of the figure. Some of the highlights include a G1 style look and feel as well as a cartoon head for true 80's realism. Although this figure does not transform, it looks amazing and would make an awesome addition to your MP collection so head over to eBay and check out HappyMealHater's Custom Omega Supreme Transformers G1 Masterpiece figure.
Looks like 2011 is off to a great start with your chance to own this amazing Transformers Custom Masterpiece G1 Skids made by the 2010 Botcon Custom contest winner! Standing at 8 inches tall, this figure would scale great with your current Transformers Masterpiece collection. It is great to see scratch built pieces as it shows the talent and skill of how a customizer can take a normal 1/24 scale vehicle and create a G1 style Transformer. Let's read more about how this figure was made by Duom himself:
"Skids was built from a 1/24 Tamiya Honda City Turbo, and Master Grade Gundam arms. Everything else is entirely scratchbuilt, from the legs to the feet, all the transformation mechanisms, and even the hands! As a robot, Skids is fully articulated, including: Ball joint and swivel neck, outward and forward swiveling shoulders, bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, ball jointed wrists, articulated fingers, outward and forward swiveling hips, thigh swivels, double jointed knees, and ball jointed feet! Included are Skids' two arm-mounted weapons. Each weapon can attach to either the top or outside of the arm. As a car, Skids features realistic Honda City features such as proper hood mounted rear view mirrors, authentic Honda logos and decals, opening doors, and detailed interior. Skids was painted with resilient Tamiya and Model Master paints, and has been clear coated for extra protection. The Autobot logo, side stripes, and rear license plate are custom made decals. Bare Metal Foil was also used to add chrome accents to Skids."
From the blue paint apps down to the G1 style decals, this Skids screams classic 80's! Here is what the figure looks like in car mode:

jbarb78 has taken the leader of the Dinobots to the next level with his Custom Masterpiece Grimlock figure. The metallic look to this figure is just what it needed as the original plastic look to the figure really detracted from the overall style and jbarb78 picked the perfect match of colors with the shading technique that only he can do. The eyes, feet, and even the teeth are set off and stand out against the metallic gray base of the figure, which looks a 1000 times better than the original. This is one of the best paint apps on an MP Grimlock I have seen to date. I took some screen shots of some of the sections of the figure so show the fine detail and the gritty look of the custom that really makes this one stand out above the rest:
Back in the 80's, Windcharger was a minibot, which meant he stood about a 2 inches tall and had very limited transformation and articulation. Thanks to Shinobitron, Windcharger gets super sized with this great looking Custom Transformers Masterpiece Windcharger figure. This figure can appeal to many fans because Shinobitron has built out 3 different modes of transformation. Turing from robot to car is the obvious one and the other two involve different robot modes. One mode pays homage to the G1 character we all grew up with and loved (pictured above) and another version which is more like the Scout Class figure (seen bel0w). Giving Windcharger a Masterpiece styling means that the figure is not the puny minibot but a towering 9" figure. Check out the photo next to the Leader Class Optimus Prime figure:
There have been a flood of awesome Transformers customs popping up on eBay so today I came across a really cool Generation 1 figure. Fans of the Masterpiece Transformers rejoice as you know have a very cool Custom G1 Masterpiece Transformers Blitzwing to add to your collection. This is a fully transformable Masterpiece triple changer. Keeping the classic beige and purple G1 color scheme, Kingoctox did an excellent job choosing his colors and the paint application looks very smooth. This Blitzwing comes with some upgraded weapons, which you can view when you head over to eBay and check out this great Custom G1 Masterpiece Transformers Blitzwing.
Sculpt-Bot has the perfect companion for the Masterpiece Grimlock hitting Toys R Us stores with his Custom Masterpiece Swoop Transformers figure. Standing 9 inches tall and with a wing span of 18 inches, this piece pays a great homage to the G1 Dinobot Swoop with the classic silver, gold, and red color scheme. Using a heavily modified Transformers Universe Silverbolt as the base for the figure, Sculpt-Bot turned an average looking figure into a Masterpiece. Here is what the figure looks like in Pterodactyl mode:
Continuing the Masterpiece theme from yesterday, JAF has a kitbash that is very unique. His Custom Transformers Masterpiece Megatron Flak 88 kitbash figure crosses several generations. The robot mode is remeniscant of the G1 Megatron that we all know and love but the alternate mode many may not be familiar with. One of my favorite hobbies is also catching up on World War 2 history and the alternate mode of this figure is a Flak 88 cannon:
I love the originality of this figure! Remember in the storyline for Revenge of the Fallen, Jetfire was talking about the Decepticons being there for a long time and this figure would fit into the the 1930's and 40's era as being hidden in plane site. A great use of Megatron and incorporating some history in the figure is a big plus for me! To view more photos of Megs clashing with Prime, head over to eBay and check out JAF's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Megatron Flak 88 kitbash figure.
Standing over an impressive 21" tall, ThyVipera brings us his G1 Masterpiece Transformers Custom Defensor combiner. This is the scale that toy makes should have been making combiners. The bigger the better! This Defensor looks very much like the G1 classic. The classic powder blue coloring is unmistakable. ThyVipera also did a great job selecting parts from various Transformers. Here is a photo showing the scale of the figure (note: the Skywarp is a Masterpiece figure...he looks so tiny!):
In order to make figures the best they can be, sometimes customizers have to create figures that do not break down into smaller parts or other transformers figures, which is the case for this Defensor. Nonetheless, this is an awesome figure so head over to eBay and check out more photos of ThyVipera's G1 Masterpiece Transformers Custom Defensor combiner.
Standing a towering 13" tall, LK Customs is at it again and he is going large with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers G1 Six Shot figure. The original G1 Six Shot Transformed into a robot, a tank, a spaceship, a gun, an off-road vehicle, and a winged wolf and I am happy to see that LK has retained all alternate modes and still kept the grand scale he was going after with his Masterpiece line. Boasting 41 points of articulation and a very accurate G1 color scheme, this massive figure is a must have for your Masterpiece Transformers collection so head over to eBay and read more about LK's Custom Masterpiece Transformers G1 Six Shot figure.
Bratimus Customs has put the G1 back into the MP-08 Grimlock figure with his Custom Generation 1 Masterpiece Grimlock figure. Staying true to the cartoon version of Grimlock, the colors that were used represent a simpler time where, as kids, we would be glued to the television watching the Autobots battle the Decepticons. Let's read more about what inspired Bratimus Customs to make this great homage to Grimlock:
"I remember watching every transformer episode when I was a kid and waiting for the Dinobots to make an appearance. And when we decided to make our first TF custom, we decided on making him first. We've always liked the yellow color scheme more than the diaclone version gold simply because it was more faithful to the cartoon character that we've always loved. The yellow color scheme made him look more menacing."
Bratimus Customs has taken many photos of this great figure so head over to eBay and check out their Custom Generation 1 Masterpiece Grimlock figure.
JAF has outdone himself with his latest Custom Masterpiece Generation 1 Scourge figure. This figure was originally designed for the "Create the Ultimate Scourge" challenge and here to tell you more about this figure is JAF himself:
"The goal was to create a cartoon accurate, manga styled Scourge with realistic details and mechanicals. A bit of gothic/demon style was thrown in also. The figure is Masterpiece scale, meaning that it stands just about as tall as MP Starscream and is FULLY articulated. Great effort went into providing interesting details and working joints and mechanicals. The hovercraft is almost entirely scratchbuilt from styrene and the robot body was created from an alternators sideswipe, Gundam Kamfer 1/100 scale action figure model kit, and more scratchbuilt parts. The hands were custom casted by TomServo. The figure is fully transformable and is also fully articulated with over 25 joints on the robot alone. The wings are also posable in bot mode - reminiscent of the cartoon and manga artwork. Quality enamel paints were used to detail and finish this custom. Realistic weathering and staining has been applied in places and decals have been applied for further effect."
I am really impressed with the accurateness of this figure, the colors, and painstaking detail that must have gone into making him. The head is my favorite part of this custom as he had to recreate Scourge's Foo Manchu, adding human characteristics to this massive robot. The purpose of kitbashing is to obtain something that can't be bought, to improve upon a figure, or simply to engage in a refreshing exercise of creativity and JAF has definitely let his creative side show and created some magnificent. Lucky for the readers of this blog, JAF's Custom Masterpiece Generation 1 Scourge figure is available for sale on eBay so head over there and place a bid!
Anemis007 has created an Autobot that we rarely see and he has made her in the scale worthy of a queen with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Elita One figure. For those not familiar with Elita One, let's learn more about her from Wikipedia:
"Elita One is the female Autobot commander on Cybertron trying to liberate the planet from the corrupt grip of the Decepticon guardian of Cybertron, Shockwave. Advised by Alpha Trion, she led a group of female Autobot resistance fighters including Chromia, Firestar, and Moonracer. Elita One possesses a rare and powerful weapon built within herself that can temporarily halt the flow of time within its radius of effect. However, the weapon drains her life force, so she only uses it when there is no other hope of victory. When used one of the few things that can save her life is a power transfer from Optimus Prime, who has a compatible power system to hers."
Shades of pink are really difficult because if you are a hue off, the figure can take on a different look but Anemis007 has selected a great shade of pink. To check out more photos of this great piece, head over to eBay and view Anemis007's Custom Masterpiece Transformers Elita One figure.
Xaviercal has taken a Masterpiece Prime figure and turned him into a badass with his Custom Masterpiece Scale Nemesis Prime Transformers figure. This figure is packing heat and even has custom smokestacks to add that extra level of detail and villainy. Let's read more about this figure from Xaviercal himself:
"Inspired by the truck in the movie Deathrace the tanker of Nemesis has HUGE cannon on the back and double mini guns on the front. Nemesis has a new pair of smokestacks to make him look more evil looking. But that’s not all ,even nemesis has to take a break sometime!!! So he has a throne made from an alternator parts and armada prime, some random parts and a wheel from a RC truck and to go with the throne nemesis has a staff from the heads of fallen transformers including Megatron, Shockwave, Optimus prime, and a movie Starscream. All of these are custom painted and detailed"
The thrown is a cool effect and I like the black paint on the oil tanker. I was never a fan of a chrome tanker so this is a great change. The figure looks awesome in truck mode towing the suped up tanker so if you want to see that mode, head over to eBay and check out Xaviercal's Custom Masterpiece Scale Nemesis Prime Transformers figure.
