Encline Designs consistently makes incredible customs and his Custom G1 Transformers 15″ Devastator is a great example of his talent. A lot of thought goes into these creations so here are some of the modifications that Encline has made:
“1) I added a custom hand-sculpted head (sculpted by Ptitvite). 2) The incredibly detailed paint job of adding mud, wear, and rust while holding true to the classic color scheme of G1 Devastator. You will also notice the cement dried in MixMaster’s chute and drum. For the thighs and the face, I wanted to make them look like steel so I airbrushed them with chrome and a slight blue candy hue at certain angles. 3) I replaced the piece of plastic in the crane hydraulic with an aluminum rod to look more realistic. 4) To top it off, I am the first to add LEDs. As always, I think LEDs should compliment the figure and not be the main focus. So I installed four LEDs inside his torso for Longhaul’s headlights. I also installed an ultra violet LED inside the custom built chest piece to light up the Decepticon symbol. The headlights and the chest shield are on separate circuits as well as have their own easily accessible battery packs. 5) Added custom Encline Construction logos heehee”
The choice of green that used has more of an iridescence quality to it. In some photos it looks more florescent in other photos it looks like the classic Constructicon green. I especially like the Encline Construction logo, which is very subtle so you can play a quick game of ‘Where’s Waldo’ to find them. Custom Transformers 'The Junction' Thomas the Tank Engine Combiner
When I first saw this custom from Frenzy.Rumble, I really did not know what to think at first. As I looked closer, I realized that this was not just a repaint of a G1 Transformers combiner but a totally new idea that Frenzy.Rumble had come up with. If anyone has kids, they will appreciate his Custom Transformers ‘The Junction’ Combiner made from Thomas and Friends trains. I always thought that the Thomas show was a bit odd but the toys were great and kids love them! Frenzy.Rumble is great at putting imagination in motion and his latest figure is no exception. More than meets the eye is one way to describe Boggs6ft7’s Custom GI Joe Transformers Crossover Toss N Cross figure. As I was scrolling through the Custom GI Joe section of my site, I saw this GI Joe vehicle and thought to myself that someone must have repainted the old 80’s GI Joe Bridgelayer but upon closer inspection, I discovered something cool! Boggs6ft7 has taken the Transformers Universe Dropshot figure and used it as the base for this Toss n Cross custom. How cool is that! So not only do you get a killer homage to a cool GI Joe vehicle but you get the added ability of the vehicle to transform. What a great way to combine two legendary toy lines. Well done!
Jetfire Custom Revenge of the Fallen Transformers Figure
I have always been a fan of the military and the “might” that they produce so when I saw that Jetfire was an SR-71 Blackbird I was stoked and Bratimus Customs has paid a great homage to this great warrior with his Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Jetfire. The paint aps on this figure bring out so much of the detail that was lost in the original Hasbro version. The style of paint really adds depth to the figure and brings the character to life. I can almost hear Jetfire’s crotchety old voice through this figure. The blue LED’s are a great addition to the figure!
Ever since Revenge of the Fallen came out of the theaters, this character had me hooked. He was cranky, old, and most of all fun! I’ve always been curious as to what Jetfire would look like in his toy version. When he was finally released, I have to say that Jetfire was such a canvas for creativity.We had a blast just trying to add details to the final paint. We ended up deciding to put details on the gears inside his torso and thighs that we had to sacrifice some of the electronics particularly the sounds that he makes. Moreover, we had to sacrifice the Decepticon, skunk and Lt. Col. Brawley Insigna to make the jet look like a a sleek blackbird.
JC Artwork has poured his heart and soul into this magnificent Custom Transformers G1 Devastator. The detailing on this figure makes it come alive. The grit and grime of these 6 Decepticons makes it feel like these could be real vehicles that will one day form into the massive Devastator from a construction site. JC Artwork has also paid a great homage to this behemoth by staying true to the Generation 1 look and feel of this figure. I always love hearing what inspired customizers to spend so much time and effort making these customs so let’s read more about JC Artwork and Devastator:
“This is a customize decepticon combiner Devastator ,which I spent 1 year in making.A lots of effort has been done building from scratch till completion. When I first saw Frenzy Rumble Devastator,it really hit me which is way too cool to make such a masterpiece in a lifetime experience.I thought it would be impossible for me to achieve such a massive robot,but the urge to build 1 has driven me to find out more on the construction for the project.I took a great step forward and challenge myself . I did a lot of research to get the proper details of how this bitch was being build,of cos there is a lot of trade secret behind it hahahaha.From sourcing of parts to construction ,which really took me 1 year in making.The process of building such a masterpiece was really excruciating but fun, I got alot of injuries during the construction n even got some great cuts on my fingers ,but nevertheless it was worth it when the result turn out to be what I have expected.The construction was completed on Sept 2009. Who knew a Transformers Armada Megatron could look so great? Frenzy.Rumble is up to what he does best and has transformers a lackluster figure into this awesome Custom Transformers Headmaster Hardhead figure. I love the gritty and raw look and feel this figure has. Frenzy.Rumble always has a great story to tell so let’s read more about his inspiration for this figure:
“As a kid, I always had a special love for Headmasters. One that I particularly remember well was Hardhead. I wanted to do a more modern revamp of this character. This custom started as an Armada Megatron. I completely rebuilt and replaced the upper legs, allowing much more articulation (rotation above knee, then full hip and knee articulation) I replaced the hands with articulated hands, which also rotate at the wrist. I had to make more space for these hands in the front (shoulder) treads. I heavily modified the turret/top of his alternate mode. Adding guns and a cockpit (Duros does not fit in) This turret rotates. For the head (Duros) I combined a Nightstick from Universe Cyclonus with a Safeguard (Vector Prime) Added ball joint articulation to the hips. Once built, I added some battle scars and painted him with some custom blends using House of Kolors (lacquer), and Testor model master (enamel).Hardhead stands approximately 11 inches tall. Duros stands approximately 1.75 inches tall.”

It is only a couple months into the new year but Xaviercal has one of my favorite customs of 2010 with his Custom Transformers Omega Supreme scratch built figure. It is one thing to take a figure and do an excellent paint ap on it but to take an amalgamation of transformers parts and turn it into a vision is another thing that transforms into both a robot and vehicle mode. Some of the scratch built Transformers customs I have seen only have one mode but Xaviercal has gone above and beyond with his Omega Supreme. Here is more detail on this great figure:
“This is a one of a kind scratch built Custom Transformer, built from head to toe. He stands roughly about 20 inches (51cm) tall. This custom has been compile with many different generations transformers parts. The main body of Omega Supreme transforms into a Space Shuttle Launcher. The chest and head turns into a mini tank. The legs turn into a Cybertronian Space Shuttle similar to the Autobot Ark. He is fully painted into G1 color scheme and detailed.”

Sometimes things happen for a reason and due to a buyer backing out on a commission, Frenzy.Rumble has placed his first venture into the Transformers Animated series with his Custom Transformers Animated Kup figure. The Animated Optimus Prime was the perfect base for Kup as the figure looks a lot like the Generation 1 figure with the Cybertronian design. To tell us more about this figure, here is what Frenzy.Rumble wrote:
“This is my first dive (and a little late) into the Transfomer’s Animated series. Originally, this was a commissioned project, but the buyer backed out (before seeing the pictures) and (lucky for you) he is now available through this auction. Thanks to the great customizer ”Shinobitron” for the idea/concept of this guy. Kup started as an Animated Optimus Prime. I removed the exhaust stacks on his forearms, made the truck roof attach on to his back in robot form, added rotation articulation to his hands. The head started as an Animated Jetfire head, completely resculpted the chin, mouth, and more. Also filled in many hollow areas and screw holes with Ave’s Fixit.Please check out the list of add-ons and modifications made to this custom.”

Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Devastator
One of the coolest scenes in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen was when Devastator violently combined into the huge robot that tore apart the pyramids in Egypt. Crefigz has taken this monster and applied his signature techniques to his Custom Transformers ROTF Devastator. A very funny scene in the movie was when Agent Simmons was standing beneath the wrecking “balls” of Devastator and Crefigz even added this detail from the movie. Sabrina Ng is at it again with a fully loaded Custom Transformers Henkei Shockwave. What I love about this figure is that it looks like the G1 classic figure in robot mode and in alternate mode he looks like a futuristic battle station. Let’s read more about this great custom:
“Up for grabs today is Henkei Shockwave. Armed to the teeth and more. He was also modified at his back with a small hook to prevent him from toppling. Those with the shockblast figure should know what I mean. Rare earth magnets were used for the weapon add-ons. Shockwave is able to pose freely with his weapons. As usual, Shockwave was protected with Anti-UV clear and will last you for a long time to come!”

Bratimus Customs has put the G1 back into the MP-08 Grimlock figure with his Custom Generation 1 Masterpiece Grimlock figure. Staying true to the cartoon version of Grimlock, the colors that were used represent a simpler time where, as kids, we would be glued to the television watching the Autobots battle the Decepticons. Let’s read more about what inspired Bratimus Customs to make this great homage to Grimlock:
“I remember watching every transformer episode when I was a kid and waiting for the Dinobots to make an appearance. And when we decided to make our first TF custom, we decided on making him first. We’ve always liked the yellow color scheme more than the diaclone version gold simply because it was more faithful to the cartoon character that we’ve always loved. The yellow color scheme made him look more menacing.”
Frenzy.Rumble is always thinking of new ideas and his Custom Transformers Nucleon Quest Super Convoy is no exception. I love the block look to the figure as it reminds me of the G1 classic figures. The figure definitely has a presence to it and will add a great new character to your collection. Here to tell you more about this great custom is Frenzy himself:
I’ve had this appendage kit for over a year now. It’s made by a great company called “Fans Project” and this past week, I thought of a great unique idea to run with. Nucleon Quest Super Convoy was the black (rare) version of Powermaster Prime. The Fans Project City Commander kit used here is original, not the knock off (important to note as the plastic quality is better in my opinion.) The Convoy figure (see slide show below) was a Classics Optimus Prime, I added articulated hands to him. The trailer comes apart and combines onto Convoy, forming the Super Convoy. I’ve added articulated hands, new chest, new face, weapons and rubber wheels to the Super Convoy. Please check out the list of add-ons and modifications made to this custom. All paints used in the process were lacquer and enamel, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!) I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations to keep the colors vibrant and true for years and years …always through an air brush to ensure thin, even perfect coats. I ensure the highest and most durable paint applications on all my customs. Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Megatron
Crefigz is back with a kick ass version of the leader of the Decepticons with his highly detailed Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Megatron. This has to be one of the most detailed Megatrons I have seen thus far from the ROTF line. If you look at the photo above, there is scoring, many levels of paint shading and he even added molding to Megatron’s head to achieve a more movie like look. Sideways Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Figure
Sideways is a great looking Decepticon and although he is briefly in the movie, his purposed was served by providing a very cool action scene in the movie where Sideswipe leaps over him in pursuit and throws a blade into the front of his hood and slicing him completely in half when Sideswipe reconnects with the blade thus finishing him off. Fallenkia has a great version of Sideways (before his demise) that is movie accurate and has a very cool feature, which are headlights that light up via a CR2032 Lithium button battery. Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Ultra Magnus
One thing that I love about new movies is that they provide customizers with a fresh canvas to create great works of art and collectibles. That brings me to MyCuztom’s latest creation, which is a Custom Ultra Magnus Revenge of the Fallen Transformers custom. This figure is very well done and the colors used remind me of the G1 Ultra Magnus as that was pretty much a white version of Optimus Prime. Wheeljack is one of my favorite G1 customs to see redone and updated and Sabrina has given this one a showroom shine. Let’s read more about how Sabrina made this great figure:
“Made with the add-on kit from Mastercollectables (Google it!), I went for a more Japanese Anime cell shaded look with this custom. You can see the effect of the shadings from the back flaps and weapons. Airbrushed, detailed, shaded, dry brushed, as well as protected by a special anti UV component, Wheeljack will last for a very long time. Do take note that due to the limited run of this add-on kit, this will be a one of a kind custom from me.”
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! This week, Zildjian has an awesome Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Nemesis Prime figure. It is hard to believe that this used to be a ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime figure but Zildjian has done such a great job with this figure. This is one of the most detailed Nemesis Prime’s I have seen to date. I love the red, gold, and silver detailing as it is very well done. “These customs are the AMAZING result of Monolith Productions. The company did a VERY short (discontinued) run of this Hearts of Steel Prime figure. These 2 are VERY unique and will not be reproduced. Each figure consists roughly of 100 resin cast parts, each and every part was hand smoothed, cut, sanded, screwed reinforced (you get the idea) I was lucky enough to land a set of these a few months ago, a friend of mine scooped them up because he was so amazed with the results. Due to personal issues, he has decided to put these up for auction…and YOU found it! The Nemesis Prime variation was slightly modified, adding spikes to his alternate mode to give him a more grim and evil appearance.”
Runabout and Runamuck Custom Transformers Alternators
Xaviercal has a great duo for this week with his Custom Transformers Alerantors Runabout and Runamuck figures. Using the Dodge Viper Sunstreaker as the base for the figure, he has made two G1 classic figures. When I first looked at these figures, one thing that struck me was that the paint application is so smooth and even. Top the figures off with their G1 style heads and you have an up to date Alternators version of two mischievous Decepticons. The great thing about customizers is that they are all unique and have thier own style and Sioce is no exception with his Custom G1 Transformers Superion figure. One of my issues with the original G1 combiner was that the figure seemed to slim and skinny and Sioce has corrected this by making this figure the way it should have been produced. While still retaining the G1 color scheme, Sioce has augmented this figure blades, weapons, and the use of the smaller jets to augment the arms, giving the figure a more grand appearance! DarkCaveCustoms has the ultimate homage to the one of the greatest combiners in Transformers history with his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Bruticus combiner. One of the aspects of this customs that really stands out are the vibrant colors that were used and the fact that the figure stands a towering 21″ tall. The plastic on the figure was painted to look like steel, which adds depth to the figure. DarkCaveCustoms had an ingenious idea of using all of the extra parts that fuse the bots into Bruticus and turn them into a Mobile Battle Station, which you can take a look at over eBay by checking out this awesome Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Bruticus combiner.
Adding his “midis touch” to the commemorative edition G1 Insecticons, Frenzy.Rumble has his Custom Transformers G1 Insecticons up for sale this week. I actually just came across my G1 Kickback, which is one of the few original Transformers I owned as a kid. The rest I had to buy back from other people selling their collections on eBay but it is great to see customizers paying homage to the G1 classics. Frenzy.Rumble always pours top quality into his customs so let’s get some insight into his mind and how he creates these masterpieces:

It has been a while since Sabrina Ng has listed a custom on eBay but her latest G1 Transformers Optimus Prime is well worth the wait. Let’s get up speed on what Sabrina has been up to:
“I had been practicing with new techniques and perfecting existing ones. Officially introducing Starburst Metallics. This breakthrough technique allows me to achieve a higher colour saturation as compared to conventional techniques. Trust me when I say that the custom looks way better in real life than what the pictures can say. Deeper and more virbrant hues regardless of the colour that I am using.
For this version of G1 Prime, I literally dropped his whole silver stripe concept and decided on giving him an updated look. I wanted Prime to look more majestic thus the gold chrome on the front of his truck. He was airbrushed, detailed, shaded, dry brushed, chromed, blue LED modded and protected by a special anti UV component.”
Her introduction of Starburst Metallics is great news for the customizing community and for fans of her work. I thought she has her painting technique nailed down it is so great that she has perfected a new technique. The last custom in the Ark Autobot collection is Sideswipe, created by the talented TonyzCustomz. The classic red, white, and black color scheme is very reminiscent of the G1 figure and the red is spot on. He also added a custom license place that says “Make a Wish,” which rounds out the collection of 11 Autobots in this unique collection. Big Hank has some great additions to his Custom Cliffjumper figure. Not only is this figure painted in very high quality, but you will notice a certain gleam in his eye. Here to tell you more about the figure is Big Hank himself:
“Cliffjumper was painted with Testors Model Master enamel paints. He comes complete with WORKING LEDs in his eyes, tail lights and head lights. All are controlled with small switches. Batteries which power these lights are easily replacable. Custom made “Make-A-Wish license plate.”

One thing that struck me about Payton34’s custom Bumblebee figure for the Ark Autobot collection for charity was the shade of yellow for Bumblebee, which matches exactly to the G1 figure from the 1980’s. Here is more about how he painted this great figure:
“I used Model Master bright yellow spray enamel to give the outer shell a more accurate color scheme. After that, I used Testors Flat Black Noir Mat for the bumper/fender areas as well as the arms/fists; Testors Flat White Blanc Mat for the headlights; Testors Red Rouge for the tail lights. Finally, I used Liquid Leaf Silver Argent for the metallic areas and topped it all off with a layer of Model Master Ultra Gloss Clearcoat”

As part of the Ark Autobot collection for Charity, Thyvipera has custom painted a Transformers Classics Mirage to look more like the G1 figure from the 1980’s. Given the popularity of NASCAR, I wonder if they made Mirage today, would it be a stock car? According to Thyvipera, “Mirage was painted using Krylon Fusion paints and airbrushed with Tamiya and Testors. He is detailed using Testor’s enamels and clear coated for protection from damage and UV light.” Thyvipera makes some awesome customs so be sure to check out this and other customs from him.

Next Autobot from the Ark Autobot charity auction is Jazz, which was designed and created by Encline Designs. Talk about starting from scratch on this one. Using a Transformers Universe Prowl figure as the base, he took a model kit and, as he called it, “re-shelled” the figure into Jazz. Let’s read more about this figure and how it was made from Encline Designs himself:
“When I took on the responsibility to make a Jazz, I had no idea I
would do what I did. The problem with making a great Jazz figure is
the fact that there are not really any good TFs to make in to a Jazz.
So, after thinking hard and drinking a lot of rum (just kidding, I
didn’t think) I had the idea to do a “re-shell”. I wanted an updated
version of Jazz to fit in the the rest of the updated TFs in the
auction. I search a good while and found a 1/35 PORSCHE 911 GTI La
Mans slot car plastic model! I used a universe Prowl figure as the
skeleton and totally dismantled the figure to get it that way! I then
had to measure, cut, dremel, grind, glue, cut, drink, yell, dremel
some more until it all fell into place. After Jazz was constructed, I
base coated him using PPG automotive urethane white with a PURPLE
PASSION Pearl on top of that. I felt, as Jazz was a race car, he
should have his sponsors on the car. So I added all the artists names
that are a part of this auction along with the appropriate racing
stripes for Jazz! He was clear coated with PPG Automotive urethane
clear coat for the best shine possible. The head is a custom head that
I got from a fellow artist. This custom here now has me hooked on re-
shelling and I look forward to the next ones!!”

I first came across Encline Designs back in 2008 and I was struck by the creativity and talent that this customer possessed. As part of the Ark Autobot Charity Auction, Encline has made this Custom Transformers G1 Hound figure. I really like the muddy look to the figure and the addition of the military decals. As Encline stated, he is a former Jeep owner and his jeep was never showroom shine clean so he decided to dirty it up. This is another awesome figure from the Ark Autobot collection for charity!
Encline Designs wanted to personally share his thoughts on the Custom G1 Hound that he made so let’s read what he has to say:
“I wanted to capture the essence of the G1 hound with he up to date
style of the new Universe figure. The mod I did to make the most
difference was I added a grill from a 1/35 Jeep Willy model kit. That
way it has the old grill and headlights of the Jeep we all know and
love. He was base coated with House of Kolor Kustom Kolor enamels and
I added military decals from the same 1/35 model kit. I airbrushed the
thighs with ALSA MIRROR CHROME like the G1 toy has also.To give a
little nod to the original Japanese Transformers, I decided it would
be cool to add the “Convoy Commander” to the hood. Also, being a
former Jeep owner and lover, when is a Jeep ever clean?! I airbrushed
mud and dirt splatter in the appropriate places.”

The focus of today’s Ark Autobot collection is Wheeljack created by Big Hank. Part of a massive collaboration effort with 7 other customizers, Big Hank has created this Wheeljack figure using Transformers Universe Sideswipe as the base. An effect that is not Photoshop’d, which you can see above, is that he has working LED lights in his eyes and headlights, which are controlled by a small switch on his roof. Like Sunstreaker, Wheeljack also has a custom license plate which says “Male a Wish.” This is another awesome G1 Autobot from this massive collection for charity.

Today I am kicking off the first of the Ark Autobot Charity auction spotlight with one of my favorite G1 characters from the 1980’s. TonyzCustomz, as part of a massive collaboration effort with 7 other customizers, has created a modern version of this Generation 1 classic figure in Sunstreaker. Using the Transformers Universe Sideswipe as the base figure, TonyzCustomz has payed a nice homage to Sunstreaker and has even given him a personalized license plate that says “Make a Wish.”

Since the Transformers Animated line was short lived, there were many figures left on the table. Jin Saotome has filled a void in the line with this Custom Transformers Animated Toxitron figure. Although Toxitron was not meant to be an Animated figure (to my knowledge) but was a redeco of Laser Optimus Prime, Jin used the Animated Wreck Gar as the base for the figure and made some sweet modifications to bring this figure to life. Let’s read more about this great figure from Jin himself:
“Toxic waste, hazardous materials, and deadly chemicals are Toxitron’s specialty! Based on the unreleased figure shown at Botcon (google Toxitron for pics) he’s been given the Animated treatment with the same pea soup green and garish purple features. While not actually in the TFA series Toxitron has still been painstakingly detailed by hand with shading, highlights, brilliant shades of color, and intricate detail that will really make him stand out in your Transformers Animated collection. You can swap out the Laser Prime-ish head for a newly designed Hazmat one with hoses for a different look. Pop off the dumpster lifts and attach his Toxo-blaster and buzzsaw so he can make a mess of the Autobots.”

JAF has outdone himself with his latest Custom Masterpiece Generation 1 Scourge figure. This figure was originally designed for the “Create the Ultimate Scourge” challenge and here to tell you more about this figure is JAF himself:
“The goal was to create a cartoon accurate, manga styled Scourge with realistic details and mechanicals. A bit of gothic/demon style was thrown in also. The figure is Masterpiece scale, meaning that it stands just about as tall as MP Starscream and is FULLY articulated. Great effort went into providing interesting details and working joints and mechanicals. The hovercraft is almost entirely scratchbuilt from styrene and the robot body was created from an alternators sideswipe, Gundam Kamfer 1/100 scale action figure model kit, and more scratchbuilt parts. The hands were custom casted by TomServo. The figure is fully transformable and is also fully articulated with over 25 joints on the robot alone. The wings are also posable in bot mode – reminiscent of the cartoon and manga artwork. Quality enamel paints were used to detail and finish this custom. Realistic weathering and staining has been applied in places and decals have been applied for further effect.”
I am really impressed with the accurateness of this figure, the colors, and painstaking detail that must have gone into making him. The head is my favorite part of this custom as he had to recreate Scourge’s Foo Manchu, adding human characteristics to this massive robot. The purpose of kitbashing is to obtain something that can’t be bought, to improve upon a figure, or simply to engage in a refreshing exercise of creativity and JAF has definitely let his creative side show and created some magnificent. Lucky for the readers of this blog, JAF’s Custom Masterpiece Generation 1 Scourge figure is available for sale on eBay so head over there and place a bid!
Just like Unicron had assembled Galvatron from the left over Decepticons, Primo Customs has forged his Custom Transformers Universe G1 Galvatron figure from a “Henkei Megatron and 1 Classic Megatron. Among other parts, he has been put together using the finest glues, sculpts and paints.” This Galvatron ranks high on my list as one of the best I have seen. The colors are dead on and the overall look and feel of the figure remind of the classic G1 character from the movie. Halloween brings out another side in customers. I am used to seeing the Marvel Legends figures done up Zombie style but this is the first Transformers figure I have seen done this way and I have to say I am liking it! To commemorate Halloween 2009, Frenzy.Rumble has created this one of a kind Custom Toxic Zombie Transformers Jetfire figure. What you are seeing in the photo above is not an optical illusion but a “special mix of paint and micoscopic beads to create the ‘toxic slime’ effect” that glows in the dark. Red Alert Custom G1 Revenge of the Fallen Transformers Figure
If you think back, Red Alert was one of those classic G1 figures that you will always remember and associate with the carefree times of the 80’s. Hunter Knight Customs has made a version of this figure from a ROTF Sideswipe figure with his Custom Generation 1 Red Alert Revenge of the Fallen figure. With some of the figures in the ROTF line, I really liked the different ways that they moved around. For example, the Sideswipe figure rolls around as if on Rollerblades and Demolisher was more like a destructive unicycle as he tore about the city. I love the use of the Sideswipe mold here and the detail pays a nice homage to the Red Alert figure from the past. Wheeljack still remains one of my favorite Autobots from 80’s and Toyphilia has an amazing Custom G1 Transformers Wheeljack up for sale this week on eBay. This is one of the best Wheeljack’s I have seen to date and it is highly detailed and very accurate to the classic style we all group up with. The colors are spot on and this figure pays a great homage to the classic Transformers figure. Defstar has created the mother of all G1 Transformers with his Custom Generation 1 Metroplex that was made from a Brave Maximus figure. This bohemoth stands a towering 24″ tall and the figure pays a really nice homage to the G1 classic figure we loved as kids. I am really impressed with Defstar’s ability to retain the look and feel of Metroplex on this big of a scale. Another amazing aspect of this figure is that it transformers into an Autobot base:
Shockwave Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Figure
What I love about BoskoesToys is that they are always striving to create new figures for toy lines and there latest Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Shockwave figure is no exception. I agree with Boskoes when they said it is a shame that Shockwave did not make it into the movie but if it did, Hasbro would have made a terrible figure so we need people like Boskoes to introduce old characters that did not get any screen time. The alternate mode is very interesting as they made this figure transform into a Power Station:
Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime
The new Leader ROTF Class Optimus Prime figure as a great upgrade from the previous 2007 movie version but Zildjian has upped the stakes with his Custom Transformers ROTF Optimus Prime figure that possesses many great features and stunning detail. The first thing that jumped out at me was the showroom finish paint aps that shows off Zildjian’s talent. Attention to detail is a strong point for this custom so here are the finer points from Zildjian himself:
- High end House of Kolor Automotive metallic blue and red urethane paints.
- Alclad II mirror chrome finish on all robotic and chrome truck parts
- High quality vinyl decaled flames with hand painted silver trim.
- High end automotive clear coat finish.
- Multiple shades of Alclad silver, gunmetal, aluminum, copper and gold on all details
- Custom made gun with switch activated working high intensity white LEDs. LEDs and switch are hidden behind a sliding door on top of the gun. The batteries are replaceable.
- Each energy sword has switch activated dual red SMD LEDs and are removable from Prime’s forearms. They connect within Prime’s forearms with a rare earth magnet. They both also have easy access to the batteries to replace them.
- Upgraded chrome smoke stacks.
- Chrome side view mirrors.
- Chains and tractor trailer air brake connection wires on the back of the truck.
- Chrome hubcaps and single rubber front tires, and dual rear rubber tires. The tires DO NOT roll, they are fixed.
- Articulated hands.
- Blue LED in head replacing the green one.
As you can see, this Custom Transformers ROTF Optimus Prime figure is not only a beauty to look at but contains many features that make this Optimus a one of a kind.
DarkCaveCustoms has possibly one of the most creative uses of the Blackout figure I have seen to date with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Shockwave figure. Curiously absent in the last two Transformers movies, DarkCave has solved this problem by making one of his own. What I like about this figure is that the G1 look and feel is still retained in the figure with the head sculpt and purple color. This figure would fit in nicely with either Generation 1 or movie lines. There are also subtle additions to the figure such as the chain gun that magnetically attaches. Toyphilia is kickin it old school with a grand scale with his Custom Generation 1 Transformers Bruticus combiner. Standing a towering 20″ tall, this figure is ready to do some serious damage. Some of my favorite parts of this custom are the head and the colors used to detail the figure. First, the head really sets this apart from other Bruticus figures I have seen because there is so much detail and depth to the face. If you remember the G1 figure, the head was very boxy and Toyphilia did a really great job taking the look and feel to the next level. The colors used on this figure remind me of the G1 classic figure while still retaining an updated vibe to it. Sideswipe Custom Revenge of the Fallen Transformers Figure
The Human Alliance line of the new Revenge of the Fallen is an interesting concept that pairs Voyager Class figures with very small figure that fit in the vehicles. Xaviercal has switched up the paint scheme on his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Sideswipe figure from the silver version and has done a fantastic job applying a smooth, showroom metallic red finish. Not only are the paint aps stunning, he also has added a custom pair of blades and fashioned new hands to better hold additional weapons. The legs have also been modified to have more articulation to increase the poseability of the figure. The detailing on the head is very intricate and you can view this and more of the photos by heading over to eBay and checking out Xaviercal’s Custom Revenge of the Fallen Sideswipe figure.
It takes a keen eye and a ton of creativity to take a character who only got 3 minutes of airtime in a movie and turn him into an instant G1 classic figure. Jin Saotome has created this Custom Revenge of the Fallen G1 Kickback out of a Sideways figure and the result is simply amazing. From using the car windows as wings to the black, purple, and yellow color scheme, this figure can fit into either the G1 or the ROTF line with no problem at all! Let’s read more about how Jin customized this one:
“Well he’s back and deadlier than ever, transformed into the Insecticon Kickback! He has been painstakingly detailed by hand with a deep glossy black paint job, metallic highlights, brilliant shades of color, and intricate detail that will really make him stand out in your Transformers collection. Transform him or pose him any way you want, just take care when doing so as there a lot of moving parts to him. Kickback even has his trademark antennae but you can remove them if you want the slim-headed look”
The Fallen is still one of my favorite figures from the Transformers 2 movie and Frenzy.Rumble was worked his magic, skill, and expertise with this Custom Transformers ROTF The Fallen figure. The painting technique looks like this figure is glowing molten red. To see how Frenzy.Rumble achieves this look, here is a little more on the types of paint he uses:
“All paints used in the process were lacquer and enamel, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!) I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations to keep the colors vibrant and true for years and years. I ensure the highest and most durable paint applications on all my customs. I exceed necessary preparation to these customs – Special plastic adhering primers, automotive grade lacquers and the best paints around to detail with.”

LK shows us the darker side of one of the greatest combiners in the G1 Transformers line with his Custom Nemesis Superion figure. I like the evil twist on this one. Here is LK to tell you more about this great piece:

Boskoes is bringing some G1 style to the Revenge of the Fallen line with his Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Galvatron figure. I really love the direction they took this figure as the paint aps are in the right places and they were able to salvage a mediocre Hasbro figure and turn it into a great piece that will fit nicely with your Revenge of the Fallen line. Let’s hear more from Boskoes on how Galvatron was created:
“Definitely one of my favorite pieces we’ve done. We started out with a ROTF Leader Class Megatron and disabled the sound function so he no longer says ” I am Megatron”. We kept all the light up functions, which can still be activated by either pulling down the switch in his chest or by moving his giant arm cannon. As you can see we gave him a different head, but it has the exact same articulation as the Original Megatron head (still moves up ‘n down and side to side- and eyes still light up). The only other mod we gave him is an exchangable arm which attaches easily, but fits on great and is very sturdy. Nothing we did here gets in the way of the original Transformation into Tank mode.
Lastly paint- we hit him with a mix of purple candy shell and a darker lightly metalic purple using raw silver for some well placed dings and scuffs. On his legs and treads we used a combo of flat and gloss grays, tinted primer, silvers coppers and rust. The list could go on for a bit, but I’ll just leave it saying, I really really like the paint on this one.”
Anemis007 has created an Autobot that we rarely see and he has made her in the scale worthy of a queen with his Custom Masterpiece Transformers Elita One figure. For those not familiar with Elita One, let’s learn more about her from Wikipedia:
“Elita One is the female Autobot commander on Cybertron trying to liberate the planet from the corrupt grip of the Decepticon guardian of Cybertron, Shockwave. Advised by Alpha Trion, she led a group of female Autobot resistance fighters including Chromia, Firestar, and Moonracer. Elita One possesses a rare and powerful weapon built within herself that can temporarily halt the flow of time within its radius of effect. However, the weapon drains her life force, so she only uses it when there is no other hope of victory. When used one of the few things that can save her life is a power transfer from Optimus Prime, who has a compatible power system to hers.”

The Nissan Z is a sweet ride and Sabrina Ng has put her showroom shine on this Custom Transformers Alternity Megatron Binaltech figure. The paint aps on the figure brings out the detail and gives Megatron the much needed personality. The original figure looked really muted ad boring but Sabrina knows just where to place the right colors to make the figure pop. This figure is the first in a long line of Alternators coming from Sabrina so be sure to head over to eBay and check out her Custom Transformers Alternity Megatron Binaltech figure because there are more great figures to come!
Custom Transformers Bumblebee Human Alliance Voyager Class Figure
We finally get a Voyager Class figure worthy of the figure and Metallichemist has done an excellent job making this Transformers Human Alliance Bumblebee look like it could belong in the movie. What I found odd about the movie was that the robots look dirty and dingy but when they transform into vehicles, they have a squeaky clean showroom shine. Metallichemist has done a great job with the detailing of this figure to give it depth and character. Here is how he describes his process: “Work done on BUMBLEBEE includes a full extensive repaint on the body with custom metallic paint to give a sense of weight.The completed paint job is scratched and brushed to achieve a worn out look that is fitting for the determined lieutenant battling against the Decepticons.” Head over to eBay to view more photos!
Alphamagnus has used the 2007 Transformers Movie Starscream figure and created a great set of G1 coneheads for your collecting pleasure with Custom Ramjet, Dirge, and Thrust Revenge of the Fallen seeker line. If you are like any person who grew up in the 80’s, the seeker jets were the toys to own and what a great way to blend the classic style of the G1 Transformer with the newer Revenge of the Fallen movie. Although I loved the concepts of the newer figures, they were always missing the classic feel and Alphamagnus has solved that issue. If you want to see more photos, head over to eBay!
Omega Supreme has always been on those figures that was great in concept but the execution of the G1 figure was never quite right until now! Sunok Studios has revived this legend with his Custom G1 Transformers Omega Supreme figure. Here are some of the special features this figure is packed with:

Fully custom face in the helmet with light up eyes and a visor that moves up and down
Super articulated joints, 360 degree rotating arms, head, and bendable knees, pivoting feet, and waist

UniqueToyz has a movie accurate take one of the coolest figures in the Revenge of the Fallen line with his Custom ROTF Ravage figure. Most of the Ravage’s I have seen so far have had a G1 flavor to them but I really like the attention to detail the UniqueToyz has taken with this figure. This figure reminds me of a surreptitious Scorponok in the first Transformers Movie. The paint scheme really shows off the finer points of the figure and gives Ravage depth and character. Some of the G1 style customs of this figure often mute the details but the way this was painted makes them stand out. Aside from Demolisher obliterating Japan in the opening scene of the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, another high point in that sequence was from a dynamic duo inconspicuously disguised as an Ice Cream truck. poppoonly111 has taken the pitiful figure that Hasbro produced and created a movie accurate figure with his Custom Mudflap and Skids Revenge of the Fallen figure. Not only is this figure painstakingly painted, but the headlights illuminate for an extra effect. One of my favorite military planes and also a great figure to add to the Revenge of the Fallen line, TK385 has brought this great concept of a figure to life with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Jetfire figure. Not only does this figure have an excellent paint job, but it also has a special feature that I have not seen anyone do before. You can take a look at the effect below (which is not Photoshop):

First, let me start off by saying that all of the proceeds from this auction go to will go 100% to a Singapore charity of choice by the TF.SG Fans site. Sabrina Ng is based in Singapore so I have a treat for all of you rest of world fans out there who are not searching the eBay Singapore site. She has listed this Custom Transformers G1 ROTF Ravage on the eBay Singapore site so I encourage everyone to bid this one up because it is for charity! This custom possesses some aspects of the Generation 1 style with the hind leg mounted cannons and black and silver styling. Sabrina makes the most amazing customs as her paint detailing is top notch so check out her Custom Transformers G1 ROTF Ravage figure here as you will not be able to see this if you search the regular ebay.com website.
I have to admit, I was excited by the prospect of the Devastator figure when I heard about it but now seeing it in stores, I have to say I am not too impressed with it but Encline Designs has given me faith that this figure can look great with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Devastator Supreme figure. There are many mods to this figure ranging from body, electronics, and paint. One of my favorite mods to the figure are the 2, 12 volt mini fans that can be installed inside his mouth to create the spinning vortex that tore everyone a new one! I will post the video when Encline adds it to his listing but here is another awesome photo:
You don’t see this very often but when two customizers collaborate and put their skills together, there can only be a great result. Sabrina Ng’s metallic paint skills and Thyvipera’s engineering join forces to create this Custom Transformers G1 Menasor Combiner. This figure is stunning! What I like about Sabrina and Thyvipera is they give credit where credit is due and they call out some great customizers as inspiration:
I’m honestly very tempted to even call this a Henkei Version of Menasor. But before I continue further, credit must be given to those that have embarked on similar projects before. Some of them include Frenzy_Rumble, Ptitvite, Malfunction, Crefigz among the many talented artists out there. This custom colloboration is the product of Thyvipera’s engineering as well as my metallic paint applications. Menasor consists of the 5 Stunticons. Each Stunticon has been lovingy customized to perfection. Without further ado, let me elaborate on some of the more interesting mods done to the figure.
There is something nostalgic about the G1 Devastator color scheme. Maybe it is because I remember crying myself to sleep on the floor of my parents bedroom when I was a little kid because they would not take me the toy store to get one but that is beside the point. It also could be because it was just a cool combiner that we all grew up with so I am going with that for now. Xaviercal captured this feeling with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Generation 1 Devastator figure. I love the one unifying color scheme of this figure. The original figure has way too many colors, which mutes the overall look but Xaviercal has managed to capture that 1980’s classic nature while applying a consistent color pallet that makes the individual parts stand out.
On the heals of Frenzy.Rumble’s ROTF Devastator comes his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Jolt figure. What I love about Frenzy.Rumble’s creativity is that he is always thinking of ways to make things better beyond a paint app. Here are some examples of this from his current figure:
- Head modified allowing it to have more range of movement
- Working dual “electro-whips” easily attach to back of figure with easy to access on/off buttons. The batteries are also easily changeable.
- Sparking light up chest – with transparent blue plastic; small button inside activates blinking light display (see video below for demonstration) Batteries are also accessible for change if ever needed.
It is great when customizers take figures in different directions and Dubz has done just this with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron version with rust. I always wondered how the Autobots and Decepticons can go from dirty and greasy in robot mode to showroom shine in alternate mode? This brings me to the rust version of Megatron that Dubz has made. If I was sitting at the bottom of the Ocean waiting for a gang of Decepticons to liberate me from my watery resting place, I would look in very bad shape. This version of Megatron is what he would look like if the Movie obeyed the laws of physics and chemistry. MalsMasterpieces knows how to do the G1 combiners right with his Custom Generation 1 Devastator figure that stands a towering 16″ tall. This figure is how it should be done as he tried to get as close to the classic figure as he could. There is something unique about this figure but I will let him tell you about it:
“What’s the best way to prevent a painted custom from scratching and chipping? Don’t use any paint! Featuring the color matched plastics DEVASTATOR. I tried to use only pieces that matched the entire color scheme of the original classic from the 80’s. However, the difficulty of creating such a figure includes finding and making sure the pieces matched as well as functioned properly. There are a few pieces I had to paint because they did not come in alternative colors. For example, Mixmaster is heavily modified and none of his parts came in green he is partially painted. The only other pieces which received paint were the forearms, upper shins, knees, and devastator head. Also, every cut and hole drilled had to be perfect because there was no hiding the fabrications with paint. The goal was to make it look so clean like it came right out of a transformers box. So if your looking for a custom you can play with, without the fear of damaging the paint then this 1 of a kind custom might be the custom transformer you’ve been looking for.”

DarkCaveCustoms is one of the most creative customizers I have seen and he is not afraid to go bold on his work and his Custom Transformers Dark Knight Optimus Prime crossover figure is no exception. Not only has he created a killer looking Batmobile, it also transforms into the leader of the Autobots. Let’s hear more about his inspiration for making this great figure:
“As a HUGE Comic book hero fan, as well as a fan of Transformers, this one was a very fun project to do. The Original figure is Transformers: Cybertron Leader Class Megatron, modded with hands that include a moving trigger finger and grouped fore fingers. The hands rotate for poseability. The head from Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime is mounted on a ball joint and is fully poesable in a circular motion of tilt (forward, backward and a degree of tilt from left to right). Embedded in his left forearm, shoulders, chain guns, boomerangs and feet are neonydium super magnets that attach all weapons included with this action figure custom. The figure has been primed and painted with high quality paints, allowing him to fully transform with no damage to the paint if transformed properly.”
I know that fans are clamoring to get their hands on largest combiner to date in the Transformers Movie realm and Creg has this Custom Revenge of the Fallen Devastator up this week for your ogling pleasure. One of the funniest parts of the movie was when Agent Simmons was underneath this behemoth looking up at his nether regions and as a bonus, Creg has included optional wrecking “balls” to make this combiner movie accurate but you will have to head over to eBay and check them out for yourself!
It is not often that I see great figures come up again but Chris Morada has another Custom ROTF Leader Class Fallen Prime up this week. I originally wrote an article on this figure on June 25th so I am excited to see it again! This is still one my favorite concept figures and I love the photo above as it looks like Optimus is about to open a can of whoop ass on some unsuspecting bots.
It was only a matter of time before this behemoth of a Transformers hit the scene and I am happy to see that one of my favorite customizers taking on this challenge. If you follow Frenzy.Rumble on Twitter and put 2 and 2 together, you could have guessed that he was working this Custom Revenge of the Fallen Devastator Transformers figure. When Devastator formed in the movie, it was one of the highlights for me and it is great to see that Frenzy.Rumble has give each of the six figures his undivided attention to make this figure the work of art that it is. Some of my favorite parts of this custom are the added articulation in key areas and the ability for the vortex to stay open like in the movie. Kickin it old school, Xaviercal has given the Revenge of the Fallen Ratchet and Bumblebee a classic look with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen G1 Inferno and Ratchet figures. Ratchet has been given a makeover with an Inferno red paint ap and styling while Bumblebee has been given a Red Alert transformation with trademark fire department logos and lights. I love these types of crossovers and want to see more from the custom community so bring on the G1 and ROTF crossovers! Jin Saotome is well known for his highly modded and detailed customs and his latest Custom Revenge of the Fallen Sideswipe is no exception. The paint aps are not only amazing, but he added extra hoses and even scratch built his blades to make them more movie accurate. This is one of the best Sideswipes I have seen to date from the ROTF line. Here is more details from Jin himself:
“He’s been given the detail treatment folks, the paint job for my RotF customs is more complex than anything I’ve done before and includes airbrushed shading, weathered detail, blended shades of color, highlights, oil/grease splatter, metallic toning, and more. All this culminates to a super realistic look of a professional miniature model and Sideswipe is no exception here. Included are two new removable arm blades that look more like the ones he sports in the movie, cutting Sideways in half on screen. They are scratch built with sharp pointy tips so take care when attaching them. Various hoses and extra detailing has been added to Sideswipe including fixing his feet to look more movie accurate. He still stands just fine and you can adjust the heel-spurs in the back to allow him different sliding poses!”
Just when you thought there was no Decepitcon more ruthless than Megatron…think again? Enter the supreme leader of the Decepticons and frogDNA has created a movie accurate version with his Custom ROTF The Fallen figure. There are times where I love customizers to be creative and run with a custom and make it thier own but in this case, I welcome the quest to get this figure movie accurate as the toy line lacks this aspect from the get go. Let’s take a peak at how frogDNA retooled his head:
“This is how The Fallen should look like! The first thing I did was get rid of that skinny chinny face he had and totally resculpted his “mouth” and chin, I also added a pair of those blue fins on the sided of his face, for an even more accurate look, I also retooled his forehead (that slicked back forehead he originally had was driving me nuts!) aaaand, just for the coolness of it, I added a ball jointed neck! Plus, I filled all the screw holes.”
Frenzy.Rumble’s Custom Revenge of the Fallen Power Up Optimus Prime is ending today in 4 hours! This is the most viewed custom I have seen in a very long time. It is about the break the 15K view mark so head over there and place a bid while you still can!
I have always been a fan of Encline Designs and he has an Optimus Prime up this week that is awesome! His Custom Leader Class ROTF Optimus Prime is stunning. I love the additions of the new stacks and the articulated hands as these subtle details really make the figure. I still am not tired of writing about the Revenge of the Fallen customs and this week, Sabrina Ng has a great figure with some special mods up for sale with her Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Ravage figure. Not only does this figure have a paint finish that rivals some cars out there, but there are some special twists. First, she added an LED to the eye (very cool feature) and if that is not enough, she even went as far as thinking how the light turns on and off. I will never get tired of writing about the Revenge of the Fallen customs when I see great work coming out of so many people. This week, Dubz gives a proper paint job and styling to a very cool Autobot with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Sideswipe figure. One thing I love is that when customizers get their hands on these figures, they turn them into movie accurate works of art. Here is an example from Dubz himself:
“For the robot mode i wanted to add a very detailed but dirty looking-battle worn appearance just like in the movie. Various shades of silver were drybrushed on, then i added the weathering with shades of black, gun metal and light rust and oil stains for a super-realistic effect. The robot mode parts also feature tiny chips and light textures to simulate worn metal.”
One of my favorite parts of this custom is the head because you can see all of the detail. One of my pet peeves with the ROTF toys as they are is that so much of the detail is lost when the factory paints them just one color. Malsmasterpieces has created a behemoth of a combiner from the 80’s with his Custom G1 Transformers Menasor figure. This beast stands a towering 16″ tall and one of his goals with creating this figure was to make this feel more G1 than the original:
I don’t have to tell you who this character is, some of us had him growing up or if you were like me, we wish we did. Menasor was one of the first combiners of the animated series back in 1984. Unfortunately 25 years later, all takara Hasbro could give us was a repainted classics mirage and called it dragstrip from the stunticons. I have now faced the fact that Hasbro/takara will never release figures respectable enough to call menasor. So I decided its time to bring back the rest of the Stunticons and bring Menasor to life and create this custom one of a kind transforming sculpture. My masterpiece of a combiner, not because of its closeness to g1 specs but because I used pieces of the transformers masterpiece, classics, and even generation 1 line to create him. He is made up of some die cast pieces, more articulation points that ratchet and click durably like figures from masterpiece line. A lot of planning and engineering went into this figure and only the finest and most durable enamels went into painting this figure to match the color scheme of the original back in the 80’s. If you have the original one back from the 80’s your going to love this one. Twice as big, twice as cool, and a million times more rare than the original. Again the goal was to be more G1 than the G1 versions from the 80’s

Xaviercal is kickin’ it G1 style with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Megatron in Generation 1 color scheme. The way he painted this figure makes the parts stand out. For example, the tank treads and the gun are so muted in the original figure because everything is the same color. By adding black, red, and gold accents to the figure, it helps to bring out the classic nature of the figure and remind us of the Megatron that we grew up with. The red accents really define the sections of the figure and call attention to the arms and legs. You will also notice the absence of the toothpick arm on the original figure as he gave Megatron two new arms, which go well with the figure and make Megatron more menacing as he looked kind of pathetic with a thin arm. Resurrected from the depths of the Laurentian Abyss, Crefigz has an excellent version of the leader of the Decepticons with his Custom ROTF Megatron figure. I am very impressed with the way this figure has been painted. For example, he has made the metal look worn and warped, like Megatron has been sitting on the bottom of the ocean waiting for someone to rekindle his spark. There are some great additions and mods to this figure, which include a crystal added to Megatron’s blaster and ball joint for his hand. Crefigz is excellent at layering on the paint to make the figure look as realistic as possible so head over to eBay and check out more photos of his Custom ROTF Megatron figure.
Another high point on the Revenge of the Fallen movie was when Sam used the Matrix to bring Optimus back to life and Jetfire sacrificed himself for spare parts so that Prime could fend off and defeat the The Fallen. Frenzy.Rumble has captured this aspect of the movie in super high detail with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Power Up Optimus Prime figure, which uses Leader Class Prime and Jetfire figures. Another favorite figure for me was Jetfire and although I have not spotted any figures in retail stores, I will be keeping my eyes out that one as it looks cool. The one thing I really love about all of Frenzy.Rumble’s is that he makes excellent choices with repsect to paint apps and modifications. It seems like the mods are all in the right places and the paint aps are bullet proof. I can’t possibly write about all of the amazing aspects of this figure so here is Frenzy.Rumble to tell you more about it:
Optimus Prime Modifications and Details - “Truck Mode” flames were meticulously “traced” on computer using oversized images of the real truck, printed and sized accordingly, then processed and plotted onto high performance vinyl creating perfect stencils. The flames were then air brushed and hand pin-striped.
- Real chrome paint on front grill, bumper, exhausts, rims and other areas. Protected with industrial strength clear coat via air brush.
- Extra accessories fitted; chrome rear view mirrors and exhaust pipes, red and blue wiring on the back of the cab.
- Fully articulated hands with rotation at the wrists (allowing him to hold bonus items to be seen later….)
- Ultra shiny and durable lacquer paints used.
Jetfire Modifications and Details - Meticulously detailed, every wire, gear, detail…. painted to look like the real deal.
- 5mm ultra-bright blue LED lights added to his jet turbines which are activated through reliable switches.
- Arm “kibble” modified so that it is removable, giving his robot form a much more accurate appearance.
- Articulated fingers and hands with rotation at the wrists. The ”out of box” Jetfire has “fused fingers”
- Ultra matte finish on his alt mode ; SR-71 Blackbird.
- Modified head allowing him to look right and left
Power-Up Prime
- Added jet wings to his lower legs and chest
- Fixed the shoulder pads to better resemble the on-screen and concept art.
- Added parts to his feet to give a more accurate look to the on-screen and concept art.
- Created “alternate” transformation sequence to really make him one-of-kind and more movie accurate.
Demolisher had to been one of my favorite Decepticons from the Revenge of the Fallen movie and Tonyz Customs has paid a great homage to this devil of destruction. His Custom Revenge of the Fallen Demolisher is like he was seen in the movie thanks to Tonyz great work. I love that the robot has no legs and just rolls around obliterating everything in his way. Tony has done an excellent job with this figure and has given him a dingy look. Not only has he given him the movie look he deserved, he also did some needed modifications so let’s hear it from him:
“With Revenge of the Fallen still fresh in my mind I bring you Demolishor! Painted to resemble his movie counterpart more this voyager class figure is one showstopper. Painted completely with Automotive Grade Paints, Lacquers, and Enamels you can rest assure that this is a top shelf custom you can treasure forever. Besides the wonderful paint job he also underwent some modifications including a new and improved double jointed neck, free-spinning wheels, and claws that can fold in and out for total mayhem.”
Dubz has an interesting twist on an old friend with his Custom Transformers Movie Style G2 Optimus Prime. I never liked the G2 Optimus Prime but Dubz has given this figure a new look and a new life that is based on the Transformers Movie version. I like the flame job he did and that he carried the paint ap all the way through the trailer. This is a great time to get Transformers customs as everyone and their mother has come out of the woodwork for the launch of the Revenge of the Fallen movie so head over to eBay and check out Dubz’ Custom Transformers Movie Style G2 Optimus Prime.
One of the high points in the Revenge of the Fallen Transformers movie was when Jetfire sacrificed himself to lend a hand to Optimus Prime’s fight against The Fallen and the Decepticons. His Custom Optims Prime Jetfire Combiner figure brings to life the newly resurrected Optimus Prime and he does a great job integrating the SR71 Blackbird parts into this Prime figure. I thought this was a cool concept and this figure is nicely executed. For more, head over to eBay!
Arguably the funniest Autobot duo to debut, Frenzy.Rumble has these two protector comedians up this week with his Custom Mudflap and Skidz Revenge of the Fallen custom figures. Here are some of the modifications and highlights you can expect for these figures:
“For Skids, I made some changes to the way his transformation works. His head now moves more freely while in robot mode, allowing full articulation. I’ve also added a major overhaul to the alt (car) mode, to better represent the actual car. This included some work on the front lights, running boards, and tail lights. Mudflap’s shoulder have been modified to better position his arms. His head was also “fixed up” a bit to allow more articulation, his car mode was also completely revamped to appear more like the real deal.”
What a huge opening weekend to the Revenge of the Fallen movie and one customizer has been pretty busy gearing up for the release. I was very happy to see that Omega Supreme was given some air time in the Transformers Animated series. Anemis007 has brought this icon to life with his Custom Transformers Animated Series Omega Supreme figure. The colors really capture the G1 nature of the figure and the scale is a great size, standing 13.5 inches tall. I am not sure if they will be making one of these figures or not but you can own it now by heading over to eBay!
I promissed myself to lay off the Optimus Prime figures for a while but I could not resist letting people know about this one! Chris Morada has one of the most unique Revenge of the Fallen figures up this week with his Custom The Fallen Optimus Prime figure. The flames on this figure are amazing and the paint aps look like a brand new car with a showroom finish. There are so many aspects of this custom that leave me without words. First, the flames looking like they are searing and burning through the figure. The chromed out parts are great and the smoke stacks really make a great addition to the figure. I am torn with respect to whether this figure looks better in robot mode or truck mode so I will let you decide:
Encline Designs has another excellent Revenge of the Fallen custom up this week and he has added something special to his Custom ROTF Ravage figure…can you guess what it is? If you can’t guess what it is it is staring you right in the face and no it is not a Photoshop effect. I won’t go as far as calling Encline a doctor but he did conduct some brain surgery on Ravage and gave him an LED light, which is a very cool aspect of this figure. Here are some of the other mods he did:
“Added one red LED in the head. The batteries and off/on switch are housed in the torso. Added a socket at the neck and base of the skull. Made a double sided ball joint and put in the neck. Now RAVEGE has more neck articulation than ever! Added teeth and filled in the screw hole on the side of the head”

I have a feeling I will writing about Revenge of the Fallen customs for many months but that is ok with me because I have been waiting so long for these figures to hit the stores. Sabrina Ng has this Custom ROTF Transformers Sideswipe figure and it is chromed out and looking slick. Soundwave’s dog has come a long way since the little puppy we saw wreak havoc on the Autobots in the 80’s. This week, Frenzy.Rumble applies his magic and talent and created this Custom Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Ravage figure. The paint aps on this figure look like metal and the detailing brings out the intricate robotic parts of this great figure. Enter…RAVAGE, a minion of Soundwave and Decepticon spy. All paints used in the process were 100% enamel, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!) I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations to keep the colors vibrant and true for years and years. I ensure the highest and most durable paint applications on all my customs. I exceed necessary preparation to these customs – Special plastic adhering primers, automotive grade lacquers and the best paints around to detail with.

Xaviercal has taken a Masterpiece Prime figure and turned him into a badass with his Custom Masterpiece Scale Nemesis Prime Transformers figure. This figure is packing heat and even has custom smokestacks to add that extra level of detail and villainy. Let’s read more about this figure from Xaviercal himself:
“Inspired by the truck in the movie Deathrace the tanker of Nemesis has HUGE cannon on the back and double mini guns on the front. Nemesis has a new pair of smokestacks to make him look more evil looking. But that’s not all ,even nemesis has to take a break sometime!!! So he has a throne made from an alternator parts and armada prime, some random parts and a wheel from a RC truck and to go with the throne nemesis has a staff from the heads of fallen transformers including Megatron, Shockwave, Optimus prime, and a movie Starscream. All of these are custom painted and detailed”
The thrown is a cool effect and I like the black paint on the oil tanker. I was never a fan of a chrome tanker so this is a great change. Encline Designs has a wicked twist on Optimus Prime with his Custom Leader Class ROTF Nemesis Prime figure. If there was ever a figure so dark and twisted, it would be this one! Not only does this figure pack enough heat to melt anyone it his path, but the facial expression Encline chose for this figure gives it the evil personality it was made for. I enjoy reading how customizers describe their creations so let’s read how Encline tells his story:
This one is the direct disciple of The Fallen. Empowered by the fire inside, he hunts. Nemesis hunts for any Cybertronian that did not side with The Fallen when he chose in his deepest of processors to gain power. Being the most hot headed of three prototforms created together, he hunts with out mercy. Nemesis has made his way to earth. Sensing a new fear of a great warrior, he takes his form. The hunt will begin by putting fear in the heart of this brave leader by killing off his soldiers one by one. Under estimating the strength and pure drive to protect that Optimus Prime has, Nemesis meets his match sooner than expected. Loving the trill of hand to hand combat, Nemesis drops his shoulder cannon and wants to remove Prime’s head for his trophies.

Frenzy.Rumble continues to amaze me with his talent of interpreting the classic Generation 1 Transformers figures and coming up with original works of art. His latest collaboration with JAF has yielded these 5 Custom G1 Dinobots and I have to say that this entire set is a site for sore eyes. I really love the yellows, grays, and reds on these figures and Frenzy.Rumble and JAF have payed a great homage to the the G1 cartoon representation of the figures. It is unfortunate circumstances that collectors must sell their most prized possessions and that is why it pains me to write this article as the owner of this custom has fallen on some hard times. This Custom Transformers Masterpiece Mirage figure is simply amazing. Fashioned after his G1 counterpart, this Mirage was kitbash of several different Alternators and end result was a classic figure that will fit nicely with the Masterpiece line. “This custom was made by master customizer JAF. It is a real Indy car Leiger Gitanes model kit altyered to Transform with several Alternator donors as Parts – Skids, Prime, and Sideswipe. He is very poseable! The Gitanes on the side of alt mode is accurate to the real car. (That is the way the real cigarette name is spelled, hence the decals on the side), but I had JAF make custom “Citanes” ones for his spoiler/feet and his front spoiler, torso to be more G1 in robot mode where he really shines. You also get his custom Hunting Rifle and Shoulder Missle launcher.“
Taking Jetfire back to his roots, Boggs6ft7 brings us this awesome Jetfire VF-1S Custom Macross Transformers Robotech figure. From the skull and crossbones to the classic yellow and black paint aps, this figure captures the essence of the original while still retaining the feel of a Jetfire figure. I love the weathering job that was done and the detailing is just enough for this figure. I took a look at the original Marcross VF-1S figure and that is loaded with extra detailing, which is a little overkill in my opinion. Megatron kind of got the shaft in the 2007 Transformers movie with getting a cube shoved in his chest and getting dumped liked yesterdays garbage in the Laurentian Abyss but Encline Designs has resurrected the leader of the Decepticons with his Custom Leader Class Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure. This figure has been enhanced, sculpted, and sanded from its original version and I have to say it is such an improvement. “As you can tell, I put a ton of work into him fixing the arms. I there are now ratchet joints at both elbows with hands, claws, mandables..(whatever they are) on ball joints at the wrists!!!! The DEATH ARM has 3 options!!!!! You can have the regular arm, attach the gun, or remove the arm all together and snap the DEATH ARM into place. Now with an elbow. Yes, the missile still fires. I sanded down Megatron with 150 grit to give him some texture. He was airbrushed with HOUSE OF KOLOR gunmetal enamel base. I Shadowed with transparent black and highlighted with ALCAD II chrome(that is ground up aluminum). I then did some brush work to add the rust and weathering. He can still be transformed!”
DarkCaveCustoms has a very unique custom up this week and I am very happy to feature his Botcon 2009 contestant piece. This Custom Transformers Redemption Prime is a truly one of a kind piece and it looks like DarkCave has poured so much imagination and skill to getting all of the pieces he needed to make this custom a work of art. The alternate mode for this figure is a giant battle hawk and it looks like all of the parts fit great together. The Fallen from the new Transformers Revenge of the Fallen line has to be one of my favorite looking toys to date for the Movie line. Frenzy.Rumble has taken the stock Hasbro figure and turned it into a work of art. His Custom Transformers ROTF ‘The Fallen’ figure is actually the second figure he has done for the line (I think he forgot he did an ROTF Soundwave in December 2008). I love the finish on the figure as it makes the orange accents pop on the figure and appear that the colors are running through the figure. Let the Revenge of the Fallen customs begin! There are a couple things that I love when a new movie comes out! First, we get to see a whole new line of toys from the creators at the toy companies and, second, we get to see the awesome customs from creative people like Xaviercal with his Custom G1 Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Tracks figure. Retaining the classic blue and the firebird symbol on the hood, this figure, made from a ROTF Sideswipe, is a great canvas for Tracks. I am looking forward to the many ROTF customs to come and I have a feeling that there will be too many to keep up with so make sure you also check out the Transformers section as well to keep up with the latest.
The G1 combiners are still some of my favorite Transformers and Hangyodan has created one of the most Generation 1 accurate customs I have seen to date with his Custom Transformers G1 Bruticus Combiner figure. The detailing and the colors of this figure really capture the classic nature of 1980’s version. My favorite aspects of this custom are the head and chest shield. I like the head because it is a bit more streamlined than the original. I always thought Bruticus has a fat head and Hangyodan has solved this issue with a longer, narrower head. The chest plate is great because it is more grand than the original. I like the way the chest plate extends further as this aspect makes the figure look like a great warrior. Sabrina Ng is downsizing this week but this little guy is packed with all of the skill and love she puts into every custom. Her THS-01 Optimus Prime Custom Transformers figure is very highly detailed and from what she said was very difficult to customize due to the size. This highly updated version retains the classic yellow and blue color scheme but with a more intense focus on deeper, rich colors. What I love about Sabrina’s customs is that you just don’t get a straight repaint but you get her interpretation of the classic style, which is more artistic and one of a kind. Darkcave Customs has outdone himself with his Custom Transformers ‘The Fallen’ Optimus Prime figure. This heavily modified Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime figure boasts many awesome features, which are outlined below:

This is one of the grittiest Optimus Prime customs I have ever seen and this figure looks like he was resurrected from the depths of hell. The fire accents that engulf the figure appear to be glowing, which is a very cool effect. The way that they are placed on the figure also made Prime look like the fire was flowing through his joints and gears. There is nothing mini about this minibot! Shinobitron has brought back to life a G1 classic with his Custom Transformers Gears figure. He has made a Deluxe figure that stands 6″ tall and this figure really captures the classic nature of Gears with an updated look. Still donning the classic red and blue paint scheme, this figure looks great and will fit in very nicely with your other G1 or customs Transformers. Frenzy.Rumble has a one of a kind creation up this week with his Custom Transformers Autobot X figure. He also refers to this figure as Autobot Spike but nonetheless, it is an amazing piece that shows off his talent and creativity. To give us the run down of the features of this awesome figure, here is Frenzy.Rumble:
- Roughly 50 points of articulation and/or moving parts!
- Head’s scratch built, using a Sigma 6 Joe face, refined and “chiseled” then building the rest around it with clay and styrene.
- Eyes light up thanks to a small LED inside his head. Also harnessed in his head is the battery pack and switch on back. The batteries are easily accessible and replaceable.
- Head sits on a ball joint.
- Porsche shoulder on his right is cut and reshaped from a die cast model.
- On his back are opening rocket packs. They swing open and the rocket/engine slides down and out.
- In his chest is a sound chips, triggered by a small button on his back. The sound chip plays the ”transformation noise.”
- His upper right arm has a small door which opens to reveal gears inside.
- His lower right arm has a small door also, which reveals a canon (shown later)
- Right Hand is from MP Prime (man that hurt cutting him up for this, but the size was perfect)
- Left upper arm “post thing” up top near his shoulder is on a hinge, allowing that arm to extend to any position (if it remained sticking straight up, it would collide with the shoulder)
- Door on back right is from a second die cast model car, the mirror is real glass (what?)
- Lower left arm has red laser light inside it, pressing the front of this forearm illuminated the canon’s recessed areas, canon tip, and 2 small holes on the sides of the forearms.
- Right leg bottom has scratch-built working hydraulic.
- He’s over 11″ tall

Sabrina Ng, with her latest in her Henkei series, puts a new look on a on friend with her Custom Transformers Henkei Nemesis Prime figure. Sometimes, it is the little things that mean a lot, especially when it comes to Sabrina’s customs as her figures are packed full of the smallest of detail. I love the purple accents on this figure. They are in the right places, along with the Decepticon symbols flanking the shoulders of Nemesis Prime. Color is very important on figures and Sabrina has decided to share a tip with everyone:
“What you see on him is not black but a special mixture of gloss grey, patiently layered until this specific colour was derived. Why not black you ask? Well, black is firstly a very common colour and that it tends to be overly harsh on a vehicle. Unless absolutely necessary, I try to stay clear of black.”
TimShinn has an awesome Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure up this week. The aim of this work of art was to get close to the movie version and pick up the slack where Hasbro left off. The hands are one of my favorite parts of this figure as they really capture the feel of the movie. Imagine getting chased by this figure! Here is TimShinn to tell you what went into this figure:
“Built over several months using a 1:25 scale Revell 2006 Mustang GT model kit and modified Bionicle parts for the skeleton into this articulated representation of the Barricade character from the 2007 Transformers movie. The model kit was cut up into over 200 pieces, cleaned, sanded and painted. The hands and head are mostly scratch built from sheet styrene and other found objects (Gundam bits, etc). 15 points of articulation. Stands at just under 9 inches tall. Hand painted and detailed. High quality custom decals were created by Reprolabels for this custom figure to duplicate the look of the movie character. 2 panels on the chest are removeable for access to the power switch and batteries for the working police lights.”

I love Sabrina’s Henkei series. She is the first Transformers customizer I know to do a line like this and I know she will make some lucky collector very happy with her latest edition in this Custom Henkei Transformers Mirage figure. Sabrina has really outdone herself and has captured the essence of the G1 figure while still retaining her own style and feel. I love the way she takes liberties with the colors and tries not to do an exact match but she comes close, which makes her customs very sought after and popular. Sam has revived an 80’s classic with his Custom Transformers G1 Jazz figure. There are so many awesome features to this custom let’s get it right from source:
Customised front end to closer resemble Porsche 935 Turbo that jazz is based on. Used wire grill, recessed the lights, completly reshaped the front
Custom built styrene rear spoiler! Large and flared, this is a lot closer than using the original spoiler that looks nothing like jazz’s.
Real Rubber tyres ! these rims were fitted so it could still roll, but have the real feel of rubber like the G1 type vehicles!
Built up and flared rear tyre guards to closer resemble the 935’s large back, and also to fit the wider tyres !
Scratch built head on a ball joint for full posablity, this head closely resembles the G1 Jazz and still fully transforms!
Custom Decals I made myself on my computer then applied, clearcoating in futures to help protect them! These took many hours to make from scratch! Logos such as ‘Martini’ and ‘Porsche’ applied in all the relevant areas.
Painted in Fusion white for durability. Citadels and clear coats were also used to help make it as durable as I could.
Recast weapons such as his famous shoulder-mounted Flame thrower! His rifle is also replicated, and theres more…

Xaviercal is back with a Generation 1 custom that is a mix of current and classic form and function. His Custom Transformers Alternators Hoist is a great combination of the old (orange crane, green paint aps) and the new (Dodge Ram pickup as the base figure. Who can turn a mediocre Animated Transformers into a killer looking SWAT vehicle? Jin Saotome can with his Custom Transformers Animated Payload figure made from Bulkhead. Jin has totally changed the look of Bulkhead and made him into a Decepticon. What a great addition to your Transformers Animated collection.
“If you remember the Transformers movie version of Payload, he was an armored truck that I turned into a SWAT vehicle before. Well here’s an Animated Payload based on that theme, an armored police vehicle of sorts. He has a great paint job that has all sorts of battle worn shading, highlights, and metallic effects so he’ll fit right in to your Transformers collection. Check out those claws, they’re articulated and can be used to pick up his Autobot enemies! You can transform him into his alt mode that resembles an armored police vehicle compete with custom decals and effects.”

What a way to kick off AFC’s 600th article! I have waited for this day ever since the announcement of Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen. New movie, new toys, and awesome works of art like Butler’s Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen Megatron figure. I can’t wait to see the movie but until then I will ogle the amazing customs. Seeing prototypes and photos of the original TF2 Megatron, I was most unhappy with the paint scheme but I then remembered that customizers will soon get their hands on them so that made me smile. The paint aps on this Tf2 Megatron are very well done, smooth, and the highlights are in the right places. Butler has made this figure 1000% better! Shinobitron possesses the great skill of taking great looking Animated Transformers figures and turning them into cool crossovers with his Custom Transformers Blur Batman Beyond figure. Blur is a great choice of figures for this crossover. The head is sculpted to look like the Batman Beyond counterpart but the coolest aspect of this figure is that it transforms into the Batmobile but you will have to head over to eBay to view that shot!
I can’t get enough of combiners and Xaviercal has a one of my favorites up on eBay this week. His Custom Transformers G1 Menasor figure is very well done and ranks very high in my mind with one of the best I have seen. The design is very simple and I like that he did not go overboard with trying to make this custom have too many bells and whistles. I like the fact that he used the windows on Motormaster as it keeps the figure from being bulky. There is so much detail in Sabrina Ng’s Custom Masterpiece Grimlock figure. This is one of my favorite customs she has done to date. The colors really pop on this figure and if you look at the image below, you can see all of the intricate detail she puts into each and every figure:

Hot on the heels of his magnificant Custom Generation 1 Devastator, Defstar brings us his Custom Generation 2 Devastator figure. The Generation 2 Devastor, in the 90’s, came out as a yellow and an organge version of green gestalt combiner that came out in 1985. The yellow version was released in Europe and the orange was only available at KB Toys. Defstar did a tremendous job blending both styles of the G2 constructicons and the G1 figures with his blend of orange, green, and yellow paint aps that capture the feel of the G2 line while paying homage to the G1 figures.
Not happy with how the Transformers Movie figures turned out, timandashley2005 have redesigned and custom created this Transformers Movie Blackout figure to be accurate. Although this Transformer is not transformable, he felt that the need to go above and beyond to create this great looking figure and the best part is that 10% of the proceeds from this auction go to help the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. I think it is great that customizers deviate from the norm and make tradeoffs for the best of the custom and the fans. Let’s read more about this great custom:
“You are looking at a custom leader class non-transformable Movie style Blackout. Blackout out was created out of a need to fill in my movie collection. He was painted in Citadel acrylics and made from scratch. The base of this figure is Leader class Megatron, arms cannons and other bitz came from other transformers and model kits. When I first saw the Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime figure, I never imagined that this figure could be turned into something this spectacular. DarkCave Customs has really outdone himself with his Custom Transformers Galvatron Prime with Roller. This figure pays homage to the G1 colors of the original Galvatron but he takes this figure to another level with the massage body armor and guns. This figure also was made with some special features, which you can read about below:
“For sale today is Galvatron Prime and Battle Roller. They are a modified Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime and a heavily modified Classics Acid Storm. He has been modified into a armored Heavy Truck and Single Manned Combat Tank. They come with an Ion Fusion cannon, with an operational laser sight, 4 Plasma Discharge Rifles and combined more than 20 points of magnetic connections.”
I love Sabrina Ng’s Henkei series as she is the only customizer out there doing them consistently, which will make these very sought after. She is winding down her Henkei series and she has a great one this week with her Custom Henkei Grimlock figure. She possesses the skill to blend and apply paint like I have never seen and the golds and the silvers really work well together and they are in the right places. “Grimlock was an interesting character to handle. Not only is he not a vehicle, he was always depicted as a dull coloured grey in the G1 line. Grimlock was painted a shade of glossy grey by mixing highly diluted black with super clear gloss. His red at the torse was derived from a custom blend of red that is heavier than my usual glossy red colours”

Xaviercal has taken Rollbar, an Alternator, and turned him into a Generation 1 classic that is the minibot Beachcomber that we all know and love. I love the direction he took with his Custom Transformers Beachcomber as he did an excellent job with the modifications. For example, he added larger buggy tires and a different front grill. The G1 Beachcomber blue seals the classic nature of the figure and rounds out another great custom from Xaviercal. Defstar is at it once again with his Custom Transformers G1 Devastator figure. Going for a more Generation 1 feel, he has really captured the feel of the figure from the 1980’s. With the cartoon head, it reminds me of the Devastator we grew to know and love. Let’s hear more about this great figure from Defstar himself:
“Hello everyone…I return with yet another take on the great Transformer combiner Devastator (as some may remember my Universe Devastator from a little while back)…this time aroundI’m aiming to get even closer to the original look of the G1 version. First I would like to mention the help I got from fellow TFW2005 member Ptitvite…I opted to use one of his Devastator head molds for this project…he’s very skilled at what he does and turns out quality work. Devastator stands approx 14” tall and 9” wide…he is painted with a combination of quality sprays and acrylics and then coated with a very durable sealer…he has full rotation of his head and both shoulders…be bends 90 degrees at the elbows and knees…his fingers move as do his legs at the hip…waist has about 15 degrees movement in both directions.”
Back in the 80’s, Astrotrain was an interesting concept is was one of the first triple changing Transformers. Sabring Ng, continuing her Henkei series, brings this awesome version of this triple changer to life with her Custom Henkei Astrotrain. I love the way the figure mould turned out but the colors were very wrong on the original figure, which Sabrina has solved with her stellar paint ap and color choice. I have not thought about this before but painting this figure must be like painting a car. Take a look at what Sabrina has to say about how she pulled off the striping of this figure:
“Astrotrain’s a tricky fella being the first triple changer that I’ve worked with. His white stripes was painstakingly taped and airbrushed on. His glossy grey was achieved through a very light shade of highly diluted black.”

Continuing her Henkei custom line, Sabrina Ng puts paint to plastic with one of my favorites from the G1 era with her Custom Transformers Henkei Sunstreaker figure. I have to hand it to her because every custom she does comes out so flawless. In vehicle mode, the paint job is so smooth and glossy, it is hard to believe that this is a toy as the photo looks like it belongs in a showroom. Not only does she have the skill to paint flawlessly but she also can mod the figure to put that finishing touch on it. For example, she swapped out the fists for some better looking ones. Manana109 pays homage to one of the most, in my opinion, undercustomized figures of the line with his Custom Transformers Leader Class Brawl figure. I love the camo job as it is really detailed and the browns really stand out on the figure, giving it more definition. If you want to see more photos, head over to eBay!
Paying homage to the great Frenzy.Runble, MacrosFA-19 gives us his version of the towering Decepticon Stunticon combiner with his Custom G1 Transformers Menasor figure. I love when customizers throw down and kitbash because the results are awesome and impressive. The choice of figures for this combiner was nicely selected and the color choices for the figures pay a great homage to the 1980’s classic generation 1 Menasor. Pulling out all the stops and literally going for gold, Frenzy.Rumble has outdone himself and 24 karat gold painted various parts of this exclusive Custom Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock figure. Just to be clear, all of the gold details on Frenzy.Rumble’s Grimlock (excluding his chest) are real gold lead, which is 24 karat. Let’s outline the other details of this figure:
- Small button changes the eye colors of Grimlock’s robot mode AND dinosaur mode (red or blue)
- Button “snaps” his mouth closed
- Red LED light in hand light up his energon sword (included) and energon blaster (also included) through small button on his shoulder
- Several parts on this custom are die cast
- Tail swivels and connects to neck in dinosaur mode
This giant masterpiece figure has been air brushed with automotive primer. Layers of lacquer and enamel paints ensure the BEST possible paint to withstand transformation and usage. Every detail has been meticulously painted and highlighted. He was primed with a special plastic adhering primer, base coated (via air brush) with a strong enamel based neutral gray. He was then coated with lacquer based gray, then coated with a metallic clear coat – finally sealed with Testor’s “dull coat” sealer. Grimlock’s paint is VERY durable, strong and colorfast (will retain it’s hue for MANY years and is immune to UV damage).

I really liked the Transformers Universe version of Cyclonus when it came out but TonyzCustoms has taken it back in time and to the next level with his Custom Transformers Universe 2 Cyclonus figure. Taking a break from her Henkei series, Sabrina Ng brings us her latest gem with her Custom Alternity Optimus Prime figure. The design of the figure is awesome and Sabrina takes it to the next level by paying homage to the classic version with the reds and blues in her signature style. It is not often when I do comparisons like this but I felt the need to show what this figure used to be and show it side by side with Sabrina’s to show you how talented she is:
Looking at the two together really points out how a great paint ap can bring out the personality of the figure. The bland colors on the orignial figure mutes the whole figure while applying the paint aps in the right places gives the figure a totally different style. Crefigz applies his mad skills to this popular Decepticon with his Custom Revenge of the Fallen Soundwave figure. I have seen the original paint scheme from Hasbro and I have to say that Crefigz’ version is 1000% improved and not even in the same league. He pays homage to the 80’s figure with some of the blues throughout the figure. I can’t wait for the mass release of these figures because if Crefigz’ work is a prelude to the great things to come, sign me up! Sixth in her series of Henkei figures, Sabrina Ng works her magic with one of my favorite G1 characters with her Custom Henkei Transformers Hound and Ravage figures. Being a military history fan, I was drawn to Hound as he is a military jeep decked out in classic olive green, which Sabrina has captured quite nicely! I love the additions of the gold stripes and modded fists, which puts a nice finishing touch on the figure. Hot on the heels of his Custom G1 Inferno come Frenzy.Rumble’s Custom G1 Transformers Universe Grapple figure. Hasbro is known for taking a toy and making many paint variations and modifications to it and Grapple and Inferno (along with Ironhide and Ratchet) were no exceptions so I was very happy to see figure. I think Frenzy.Rumble nailed the yellow color and did an excellent job with constructing the hook and hydraulic crane. He also added some great effects which you can view below:

You have to love the creativity of customizers. To take 3 distinct figures and meld them together takes a great mind and the execution of this figure is awesome! Xaviercal adds another seeker jet to the line up with his Custom Transformers Animated Thundercracker figure. The styling harkins back to the 80’s with the G1 color scheme. Xaviercal nailed the G1 color blue of the classic figure and the way the figure was painted really brings out the detail in the various parts. I like the use of silver on the arms and the feet. Sabrina’s 5th installment in her Henkei series features this stunning Custom Optimus Prime figure. She nailed the color red on this one. The richness of the colors always amazes me coupled with the deep blues and greys completes the figure. One aspect that I love about her customs is the shading she puts into the figures, giving them a realistic metal look. Frenzy.Rumble just made a great addition to his Custom Transformers Universe Inferno figure by adding the classic Generation 1 style ladder. I don’t know why this was not part of the original design but it is customizers like Frenzy.Rumble that do the jobs the toy companies fail to do year after year.
l.designs is not short on creativity this week and it shows with his Custom Road Warrior Optimus Prime crossover figure. What a way to put a Voyager Class Prime to good use. There are several aspects of this custom that are great. In vehicle mode, he designed a custom cow pusher, which is used as a shield in robot mode. There are also parts of the tanker that are used for his killer shoulder spikes. Let’s read more about this great custom from l.designs himself:
Initially I was just planning on doing an all out G1 style repaint of this guy. Anyhow when I finished the matte black undercoat I saw the tanker from Road Warrior. After that I searched for a suitable tanker in the proper scale and everything. I went all out for the paint and weathering on this one. Made some custom scale barbed wire for the top (careful sharp) and scratch built the cowpusher that locks onto the grill. Just so happen that when I found the tanker it was the type to light up and has some great sound effects of a running truck to add to the fun.

Sabrina Ng brings us her 4th installment in her Henkei series with her Custom Henkei Bumblebee Transformers custom. One aspect that I love about her customs is she takes the time to get it right and she also pays homage to the G1 era with the paint aps. Although the figure from the 80’s was a canary yellow, the cartoon version was more an orangy yellow, which Sabrina captured nicely! Along with giving Bumblebee realistic looking metal parts, the shine and gloss to the figure gives it that showroom finish. Frenzy.Rumble has the ability to take a mediocre figure (at best) and turn it into a figure that you will want to have as the centerpiece of your collection. The intricate detail to his Custom Transformers Universe Inferno figure must takes talent to transform the plastic into a realistic looking fire truck and is a 1000% improvement to the Transformers Universe figure. There are many subtleties to this figure and I like the way that he has made the tires realistic looking (if you remember the original figure, it had red rims) as well as the hoses, the lights, and bumpers. It takes a lot of patience to do this work but as you can see it is very rewarding. My favorite part of this custom is the Autobot symbol on the front, which for G1 fans, is how the original Inferno rolled! I have to say that Jetfire is my favorite Transformer of all time and Sabrina Ng has her third installment in her Henkei series with her Custom Transformers Henkei Jetfire figure. The third time is the charm and the paint aps for this figure and all of the enhancements bring out the best in the figure. Although my G1 Jetfire is bright white, I really like Sabrina’s concept for the figure and the carbon scoring that is seen on the jet mode brings the figure to another level. You will also notice Sabrina’s signature deep red color on the engines, which other Transformers, such as Optimus Prime and Sideswipe, have had the honor of wearing. I am very impressed with this figure and can’t wait for more to come. With that, I will hand it over to Sabrina to tell you more about how she made this figure her own:
“The third installment of my Henkei series. Jetfire. The technique to Jetfire’s paint scheme consists of a fusion between Gundam and Transformers. He was shaded, panel lined and had a layer of metallic red airbrushed on him. White has never been an easy colour to work with due to the numerous layers of paint needed before the desired shade of white is obtained. He was then clear coated and protected with anti UV gloss for that extra radiant shine and protection. Jetfire was given a pair of Gundam 1/100 fists as well as 2 additional weapons. A hand held Grenade Launcher which fits snugly into his hands as well as a Beam Rifle!”

Sabrina Ng gives this Henkei figure a showroom shine with her Custom Transformers Sideswipe figure. The original look of this figure (before Sabrina put her touches on it) looked too plastic for my taste so I am very happy that Sabrina decided to put her energy into making Sideswipe shine. This is her second installment in her Henkei series and if this one (and ) are a preview of more to come, sign me up! She did take some liberties with the paint scheme and color aps but I will give her a pass on this one because the two colors that she chose go really well together and it takes an artistic eye to know what colors will compliment each other. Creg is back in full force and has a movie accurate Custom Optimus Prime Leader Class figure to feast your eyes on. Creg has really captured the personality of Optimus Prime and this shows in this custom. Sculpting a new face for Prime, he was able to capture the concerned look of the Autobot leader, giving this figure his own persona that adds to the display capabilities of the figure. To do this, he created two heads for this figure and added articulation in the form of ball jointed neck. Don’t underestimate the tilt of a head to give the figure a new look as this also adds some human aspect to the figure and ability for it to change emotion with each tilt of the head:

Cyclonus’ design was one of the coolest among the seeker jets and Sabrina Ng has given this Decepticon warrior a fresh new look with her Custom Transformers Henkei Cyclonus figure. The shape of Cyclonus is very different that the original seeker jets and the original paint scheme was a deep purple and silver, which Sabrina Ng has captured nicely with her flawless painting technique. “To begin with, Henkei Cyclonus has some of the coolest looking chromy purple wings ever. That however didn’t stop me from designing an even better colour scheme to complement him. I took some of the best paints that I had and spent countless hours experimenting before I managed to churn out a very metallic looking chromy purple that’s close to the stock colours of purple chrome. He has been airbrushed with utmost care and shaded and detailed at every corner possible without turning this fearsome Destron warrior into looking overly colourful. Notice the very limited colour choices on Cyclonus without sacrificing the amount of attention to him.”
Customizers always see the inner beauty of a figure sitting on the shelf and they always seem to bring out the best in the figure. Sabrina Ng has again worked her magic with her Custom Transformers Universe Optimus Prime figure. Thinking that the figure looked too dull, she focused on making this figure shine with a combination of painting techniques. I especially love the direction she took the midsection and the grill, giving Optimus that burnt steel look. There are also very small details that if you are not paying close attention, you will miss. For example, she noticed that the box shot had a picture of Prime with a symbol on his lef arm and she went ahead and made that correction and even put a high gloss finish on it to protect it. I have said it before and I will say it again, Sabrina makes outstanding customs and you should feel lucky if you win one because you should know that the ones she makes are the highest quality and best around. When I first came across Wheeljacks Custom Body Shop’s Custom Masterpiece Transformers Thrust, Ramjet, and Dirge, I had to do a double, triple, and quadruple take. These seeker jets look so amazing in the photo, they must look unreal in real life. One aspect that struck me about these customs is that the heads and the winds are handmade! Now stop and digest that statement for a while! The parts look like just like the G1 originals that they were modeled after. These have to be some of the best looking Masterpiece Customs I have seen ever! Let’s get some more detail on these great jets from Wheeljack’s Custom Body Shop:
“You’re bidding on THREE custom Masterpiece Transformers. Dirge, Thrust and Ramjet. These dudes are fully transformable. Each comes with unique weapons and ladder. These guys fit in really well with the Official Hasbro Starscream and the Takara Skywarp and Thundercracker. The wings and heads are entirely hand made. They were painted with automotive enamel and Modelmaster Testor products. Decals were custom designed. They are also sealed with a couple coats of future acrylic. The manufacturing process was fully documented at Sector70. They took about 6 months to complete. Bidder should understand that these are one of a kind handmade items. They are not subject to the same structural standards as factory toys. They are durable however they are not designed for everyday use or rough handling. Winner will receive a PDF file with Transformation Instructions similar to factory toys. The boxes are not like the standard MP Takara boxes. Standing a towering 8.5 inches tall, Master Maker’s Custom Transformers Masterpiece Sideswipe captures that Generation 1 feel on a much larger scale. This figure is truly a work of art and you can tell that Master Maker has poured his heart and skill into this one. I like the direction he took with the head as the G1 and cartoon heads were stylistically too plain for me. He has preserved the G1 paint aps of the original with his choice of Lamborghini red, white, and black. I love the additions of the LED lights and sounds as it adds another dimension to the figure. Master Maker also did his homework so I will let him tell you more about Sideswipe’s vehicle mode:
“The shell is made from a 1/24 scale Tamiya Lamborghini Countach Walter Wolf Edition. This is the true version used in the 1984 G1 Sideswipe figure enhaced to it’s fullest with the authentic paint scheme of the Walter Wolf edition Lambo.”

Sixshot first came out in 1987 and puichun721 has paid great homage to this classic figure with his Custom G1 Transformers Sixshot figure. He managed to capture the classic nature of the figure with an almost spot on look and paint aps (you have the love the mint chip green of the 80’s to appreciate this one). His Sixshot changes into 7 different modes and stands a towering 9 inches tall. It also comes with 100% custom guns and a hand made instructions sheet. Bringing together the concepts and artwork of Mr Guido Guidi, the concepts of griffith_76, and the execution of form and function of Sabrina Ng comes this outstanding Hearts of Steel Optimus Prime Custom Transformers figures. This is a dual effort as griffith_76 is the designer and built these beauties from scratch and Sabrina has applied her skill with the brush. Stylistically, you will notice that the finish on these customs is very different from Sabrina’s usual glossy showroom finish as she decided to go for realism for the period that this comic was set in. “This first edition set pair of Hearts of Steel Optimus Prime is designed to be modelled after the Hearts of Steel comics as well as my very own rendering of a Hearts of Steel Nemesis Prime. I set out to do up a more realistic impression of a train as opposed to my usual shiny and reflective customs. The HOS 01A (red/blue) was dry brushed before using coats of red and blue to get a steely outlook for the his parts. Much of his trailer was shaded before being covered with clear blue. HOS 01B (black/gold/teal) was predominantly shaded to achieve his burnt steel look across. His gold was achieved by airbrushing layers of enamels for a richer shade. Both figures were given an anti UV gloss coat for a lasting finish that will retain their colours for many years to come. This auction includes HOS-01A (red/blue) and HOS-01B (black/gold) only. Movie Ironhide and Bumblebee are used as gauges for the audience to estimate the height and build of the Hearts of Steel customs. Leave it to Shinbitron to blend the universes of GI Joe and Transformers to come up with his latest Cobra weapon. His Custom Cobra BAT Transformersfigure is a cool concept and totally fits into modern warfare. Continuing the great trend of G1 combiner figures, ThyVipera has payed a great homage to this classic Autobot combiner with his Custom Transformers Superion figure. Standing an impressive 18″ tall, this figure boasts the red, white, and gold paint scheme we all loved growing up. Here are more details on this awesome figure:

jcartwork has given this Autobot a showroom shine with his Custom Transformers Binaltech Bluestreak. One of the coolest points about the Binaltech line was that Takara and Hasbro used 1:24 scale, accurate real-world vehicle modes officially licensed from car manufacturers that transform into the characters we know and love. One thing that I like that jcartwork has improved upon is the way he painted the figure in robot mode as it shows off all of the detail. I love the color choice for the internal parts as it really brings out the ‘bot’ in the figure. One thing that was great about the Transformers Animated line was that it gave a fresh canvas for talented customizers to work with and create original works like NemesisPredaking’s Custom Transformers Animated Beast Wars Megatron figure. Megatron has had several incarnations of himself and NemesisPredaking has captured the evil Predacon version by making excellent paint choices and choosing a very cool Transformers Animated figure as the base. I have seen the concept art and the head on this figure is right on. Also, the way that the paint was applied to this figures makes it look very smooth and high end, which I would not expect anything less from NemesisPredaking! When I first saw the Transformers Universe 2.0 Onslaught figure, I never imagined that someone would turn into a masterpiece but Darkcave Customs has managed to create a killer concept with this Custom Transformers Universe 2.0 Shockwave figure. Darkcave has managed to retain the classic feel of Shockwave while giving him a more Cybertronian look to him in vehicle mode. Let’s read more about the back story of this figure from the source:

Ever since I saw the Transformers Movie figure Stormsurge warming the pegs at Target, I have been waiting for the day for someone to create a G1 version and Duom has answered the call with his Custom Transformers G1 Seaspray figure. Let’s get some more detail on how he made this great figure:
“Seaspray started life as a Stormsurge from the movie line, but with a new paintjob and scratchbuilt peices has been rebuilt into the Autobot Naval Defender! Stormsurge’s original “lobster claw” hands were removed and rebuilt as new larger feet for Seaspray. New hands were scratchbuilt and fit perfectly into feet for transformation. A new head was also built for Seapray, and his gun was given a new handle to fit into the new hands. Finally, the spring loaded, key activated mechanism was removed, allowing the missles to simply be flipped forward or back. Seaspray is painted in glossy Kyrlon Fusion White and Blue for long lasting durability, finished off with a orange-yellow and dark metallic grey. Details are done in clear blue, clear red, and clear yellow over chrome silver.”

I thought I would ring in the New Year with a big bang and feature L.K.’s Custom G1 Masterpiece Bruticus figure. I have seen a nice run of combiner figures in the last couple months and I just have to say to all of the customizers out there making them…keep them coming! This is the 3rd in L.K.’s Masterpiece Custom (MPC) figures and I do have to say that there are a few customizers that know how to do these figures right and L.K. is one of them. Not only is the Generation 1feel intact and preserved, but the scale of the figure goes so much better with the scale of the G1 figures. If you look at the cartoon, the combiners towered above the other bots but somehow the sense of scale was lost when the characters were translated into the toys (which is one of my pet peeves). Darkcave Customs has made the most intricate and detailed combiner figures yet with his Custom Generation 1 Predaking Prime figure. This is one badass beast and you have to hand it to Darkcave’s imagination for making this one into a reality. The story behind Predaking Prime is Optimus unleashing his inner beast and this is what Darkcave translated this into…a G1 style behemoth that stands 17.5 inches tall and 13 inches wide. This deviates from the traditional combiner figures as only 3 figures combine to form the larger robot but this is a welcome deviation as the other two figures are not needed as Prime’s legs are used in place of the two figures. I love the colors that he chose on this one as it harkins me back to the 80’s when Predaking made his colorful debut. My favorite part of this figure, which are many, is the lion chest plate smack dab in the middle of the figure and the massive sword that this beats yields. Sabrina Ng has gone above and beyond with her latest homage to the great leader of the Autobots with her Custom Leader Class Optimus Prime with trailer. This custom is jam packed with detail, as well as a uniquely designed MP-02 Trailer and a custom Battler Roller (remember that six wheeled little guy…yup…he is in there too!). I love the way that Sabrina can turn plastic into metal and she has a great eye for the color palette. Here to give us more detail is Sabrina herself:
“This figure is one the main reasons why I wanted to take up customizing initially. I’ve always wanted to do up a full repaint of the Movie Optimus Prime but it was too complex at first. The multiple layering of colours as well as flames made it a nightmare for most customizers. My G1 Prime enabled me to understand the toy’s design better while I planned for a colour concept that would be unique to him. 6 months after my 1st custom, I belief that I’ve managed to recreate a Movie version of Optimus Prime that is truly aesthetically pleasing. This auction includes Movie Optimus Prime, an MP-04 trailer, the MP-02 Commander Set, the TFC-EX002 Battle Roller as well as an extra weapon for Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime was given many shades of colours that range from sunset yellow to orange, red and blue. Most of the colours blend smoothly into one another. He was also given a Mirror Chrome finish on certain parts of him. Do note that this is the Hasbro version of Optimus Prime. He does not initially have any Chrome parts unlike Takara’s Premium mold. The MP-04 trailer was covered with styrene to emulate an actual truck better. Only the autobot logo from the original trailer remained. Flames that matched Optimus Prime were painted on the exterior and the internal compartment was dry brushed with silver and detailed accordingly. The upper, front and rear ends of the trailer were given a post and pre-shading treatment for a weathered look. The repair dock was painted in a metallic blue shade. The Mp-02 Commander Set was repainted to match Optimus Prime’s colour scheme as the original colour was meant for Ultra Magnus. The TFC-EX002 was given a chromy metallic blue finish as well as a pair of articulated fists that holds an additional weapon. His joints have been tighten for more stability as compared to the vanilla version.”

I have to hand it Encline Designs for his latest in his series of Transformers Ultra Class figures. His Custom Transformers Movie Blackout transcends any custom in this class this year. This figure is the third in his lineup and I was happy to cover his other two earlier in the year, which were his Custom 15″ Optimus Prime and his Custom 13″ Bonecrusher figures. Let’s take a look at some of the aspects that puts this figure in a class by itself. First, the led lights in the figure make it unique and add another dimension to the figure, which replicates the way that Blackout was portrayed in the movie:
The huge chest cannon is massive and looks like it could cause massive damage. Made from a mix of model helicopter parts and other figures, Blackout’s blades give the appearance of a mid-transformation where is then breaks out the huge canon and opens a can of whoopass on the base in Qatar. I seriously was in awe watching the first live action Transformer come to life and Encline Designs has captured the true essence of the movie figure with his massive creation. I never get tired of seeing customizers pay homage to the great leader of the Decepticons and jcartwork does an excellent job with his Custom Leader Class Transformers Movie Megatron figure. The shadowing and black washing on this figure is amazing and his technique makes the plastic cast a battle scared metallic look. The gold accents are in all the right places and add another dimension to the figure. Let’s take a closer look at some of the fine detailing:

Tonyz Customs has brought the concept art of Don Figueroa to life with his Custom Transformers War Within Shockwave. The finish on this figure is amazing and Tony captures the Generation 1 feel of the figure while also keeping the War Within styling in mind. It is a great blend of concept and execution in my opinion! Let’s hear more about this great custom from Tony:
“He comes with a removable left hand for the Tank mode so he has the treads and a blaster hand for bot mode(Both are fitted with strong magnets for easy switch). Getting his hands on the rare Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen figure, Frenzy.Rumble has once again worked his magic and turned this mediocre Soundwave into a figure worthy enough for Megatron. His Custom Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen Soundwave is the first of its kind that I have seen customized and kudos to Frenzy.Rumble for seeking this one out and doing a bang up job! Let’s remind ourselves about how Soundwave used to look before the customization:

I like the way Frenzy.Rumble used the same color palate and really enhanced this figure to bring out the intricacies of the figure. The detail simply gets lost in the original figure. L.K. Customs has been busy and thier latest is evidence that the G1 Combiner figures have a life post 1980’s. His Custom 15″ Bruticus figure rivals his 15″ Superion figure he created in November 2008. L.K. did a great job keeping the Generation 1 feel alive with this behemoth, even getting the right tones on the figure. As this is not a direct interpretation of the figure, I feel that this Bruticus gives a more updated and modern look to the one who is quoted as saying, “The road to conquest is paved with Autobot wrecks.” Speaking of quotes, lets hear more from L.K. about this great custom:
“Most of the BRUTICUS joints are movable, head moves up and down, left and right. Shoulder rotates 360, Fingers moves up and down ( thumb has individual ball joints ). Legs/hips moves forward, knees bends !! All figures has been given a fixative coating on top of the paint to make it durable.The paint used are the professional resin base paint.Apart from these, all figures have been given a muddy/metalic effect on the surface to make them looks more realistic like an Army Set !! Besides, with Combaticons’ individual wapeans, can combine and form a giant Weapons for Bruticus!!”

I love the 2007 Transformers Movie but I was very disappointed with the quality of the toys that Hasbro produced. It is customizers like Sabrina Ng that have brought the toys back to life and reinvigorated the toy line with accurate figures like her Custom Transformers Movie Ratchet figure. I would call Sabrina’s paint aps bullet proof because they look so life and the metal shines like it is real. Let’s get more insight on why Sabrina wanted to customize Ratchet:
“Ratchet’s something that I’ve longed dreamt of doing as I felt that the Hasbro/Takara molds do not do him justice at all. Even the Metallic/Best buy Ratchet was not even anywhere near droolsome. He was meticulously detailed and even his butterfly axe had the red patterns repainted. Ratchet was painted with a special paint mix of 80% yellow and 20% green. He was shaded and drybrushed, panel marked and had anti UV gloss smacked on to him. Well, that’s that. Always wanted to re-do Ratchet. And I’m really happy that I’ve finally done it!! And among all my customs, I dare say that these pictures do not do Ratchet any justice as he seriously looks twice as nice (at least in my opinion. hehe) as he is resting on my work desk right now. I’ve also included 3 pictures of WIP in the slideshow to show how it looks like without the black background and lighting.”

Kickin it G1 style, Crefigz applies his unique paint ap technique to an old friend with an updated look with his Custom Transformers Universe 2.0 Ironhide figure. It is figures like this that remind of being in Boston, Massachusetts where you can see older buildings reflected in the newer skyscrapers and this is the feeling I get when I see this Ironhide. Although this Ironhide has a new look thanks to the Transformers Universe 2.0 line, Crefigz has given this figure a G1 paint ap reminiscent of 1980’s tride and true Autobot. With the familiar yellow stripe gracing the sides of this figure, you can get a feel for the classic Generation 1 Ironhide we all know and love but with a sleek, angled new mold. Over the years, I have seen many awesome Devastator customs and before I get into the details of MalsMasterpieces Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Devastatorfigure, I have to give props to Frenzy.Rumble for providing great inspiration to so many customizers out there. Back in June 2008, I featured Frenzy.Rumble’s Custom G1 Devsastator and there have been many great customs that have been modeled after it. It is great that the customizing community provides such great inspiration to everyone.
For MalsMasterpieces’ Custom G1 Transformers Masterpiece Devastator figure, he chose a great hue for the base color green that resonates with the Generation 1 feeling from the 80’s. MalsMasterpieces’ gives us more detail on this great figure:
“As this custom becomes more popular, since it was announced that the 2009 Movie Transformers:Revenge of the fallen will have the combiner Devastator figure added to the cast. This custom will only grow in popularity. Authenticity is the #1 priority for most collectors and that was my main goal in creating this custom. I have seen this custom done before but there was always something not accurate or unproportioned about the figure. I wanted to master this custom by keeping authenticity and proportion the main goals. This made for a high level difficulty of completion, but this is what I came up with. A lot of Hasbro/Takara figures were massacred in order to create this one of a kind masterpiece, but i think it was well worth it. Not only did I keep the figure 95% Hasbro/Takara but he is fully functional, meaning that all 6 figures transform from vehicle mode to combiner mode with ease, as well as into full Devastation mode. To conclude, this Masterpiece is the holy grail for transformer lovers because of its closeness to the animated series from the 80’s, the Devastator we all wanted growing up but Hasbro or Takara never produced. If you have the devastator from the 80’s then you’ll understand how much this custom is really worth.”
Wheeljack has to be one of my favorite Autobot customs and Duom has payed a very nice homage to this G1 favorite with his Custom G1 Transformers Universe 2.0 Wheeljack figure. This figure began as a TFU2.0 Sunstreaker but is not a Generation 1 great thanks to a very talented dude. Not only did he use Sunstreaker as a base, he also custom made many of the parts and decals. Let’s read more about how Duom made this excellent figure:
“The new front body kit was scratch built from styrene, as were Wheeljack’s trademark wings, head details and enhanced spoiler. Wheeljack’s wings peg into his car underbelly for storage, and his “ears” even fold up for transformation. Wheeljacks sports a new, high-gloss, Krylon Fusion white paint job for ultimate durability. He is finished off with chrome silver details and a custom dark grey for body parts. All decals were custom designed just for this particular Wheeljack, no ill-fitting reproduction G1 stickers here! The decals are protected with gloss clear coat for added protection. Please note, however that there are a few spots of unavoidable paint scratching, namely the clips on the doors on the pegs on the legs. It’s quite minor though.”
Frenzy.Rumble is back on the scene with an exclusive treat that will not be out in the US for another few weeks and the best part is that they are customized in their Generation 1 likeness. His Custom Transformers Universe Hound and Ravage figures are the epitome of the 1980’s and Frenzy.Rumble has outdone himself once again by using the very effective olive green (for Hound) and silver and black (for Ravage) to capture that G1 flavor that fans clamor for. Like all of Frenzy.Rumble’s customs, the finish and paint aps are like glass and you know that he goes out of his way to please fans. Let’s learn more about these great customs from the source:
“Hound was one of my favorite Autobots as a kid, and who doesn’t love Ravage? Transformer Universe Hound and Ravage won’t be available in US retaill for another month, but here they are …and they’re customized. With Hound, I removed the existing hands, and replaced them with fully poseable hands, which can point, wave, make a fist and more. These new hands actually fold into the forearms when transforming into alternate mode. I achieved Hound’s awesome green color using 6 shades of green. All the detail was painful to add on, but suits the figure very well. His Jeep mirrors are painted with chrome to give a great reflection. I later added custom made decals, such as the faction symbol, army stars and vehicle ID tags. There’s even been a custom California license plate added with the text : HOUND1. I also replaced the ugly tires which this figure came with for some authentic Jeep Wrangler rubber type tires. For Ravage, I repainted the entire figure and added a metallic look to his limbs, a faction symbol, and tiny details, like glowing red eyes and shiny silver teeth.
All paints used in the process were 100% enamel, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!)? I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations. This is a must-have and definite collectible for G1 and movie fans alike”
DW40 shows us an evil side to the Transformers Universe Sidewipe figure with his original concept TF Universe Striker Decepticon figure. The last time I featured a custom by DW40, I wrote about his Custom Warmachine. The one thing that has impressed me about his customs is the smooth paint aps he applies to his figures. I really like the paint scheme on this figure and the way he used the black and purple to accent the figure. The black paint on the hood, roof, and fin makes this figure very interesting to look at. I love when customizers provide a backstory to thier original concepts so here is Stiker’s story:
“Many years ago on the planet Cybertron many transformers were brought online. Siblings born mere nanoclicks after each other. Unknown to anyone some were brought online in secret. One would become well know as the Decepticon Striker. Striker is one the most powerful Decepticons. Even Megatron has heard about the mysterious Decepticon that lurks in the shadows waiting to strike at any given moment. Striker is one that takes orders from no one; His actions are his and his alone. Although loyal to the Decepticons, he follows his own path of evil! His spark is made of pure dark energy that will never extinguish. When the day comes that Striker steps out of the shadows and reveals himself to both the Decepticons and the Autobots, will be the day both factions fall!”
Fans are in combiner heaven with ThyVipera84’s Custom G1 Transformers Devastatorfigure. This is one figure you do not want to miss out on! First, the paint aps are in amazing detail and the weathering on this figure makes this one stand above the rest. Towering 15″ tall, this Devastator is a great scale to other smaller Transformers. This is one of the best custom Devastator figures I have seen to date! The figure also comes with two head styles:

Ever wonder what Jazz would look like if Jazz came across a different dealership and scanned a red Pontiac Solstace? Sabrina Ng applied her signature painting technique to make a version of the Transformers Movie Jazz you will never find anywhere. It is great to get into customizer’s heads so let’s learn more about this great figure:
“The last of my red customs (I think. hehe). Zoom Zoom!!!! I was inspired to take on this project when I realized that some Mazda cars on the road actually had the word Zoom Zoom written on them. He’s been given some extreme metallics as well as an additional head, recasted to pay tribute to his Binaltech inspiration. I’ve always been amazed by how Jazz can look so good in red (or any colours for that matter). Deluxe Premium Jazz was given a nice shade of red metallics to emulate Zoom Zoom. As always, I take great pains to clean the figure of any factory residue. He was primed and was given a base coat of supper black to bring out the strength of the metallics. He’s got approximately 7 layers of red and 3 layers of anti-UV gloss to keep him in great condition for the years to come.”
L.K. Customs has put his talent to work and has created a massive combiner from the past with his Custom Masterpiece Superion Transformers G1 figure. Using the Transformers Universe Silverbolt as the centerpiece of this figure, he seamlessly recreates the Generation 1 feel of the classic Aerialbot crew, which is evidient in his color choices and overall style of the figure. In robot mode, the 5 figures combine to form a massive 15″ autobot, which towers over the deluxe and voyager class Transformers. With the size difference he was able to achieve what Hasbro could not do with the original. Let’s learn more about this great figure from L.K.:
“Most of the SUPERION joints are movable, such as Shoulders move in and out, Elbows bends, Arms rotates 360 front/back ways, Fingers moves up and down ( thumb has individual ball joints ). Shoulder movable joints are not simple ball joints, they are the gear wheels joints which will give a “click” sound whenever you move the joints!! Defstar does not mess around when it comes to making what fans want and his Custom Transformers G1 Devastator is no exception. This behemoth stands a towering 17″ tall and is 12″ wide and your G1 Transformers would not want to meet this monster in a dark alley! This figure is made of 6 Constructicons that combine to form Devastator and it looks like great care was taken in making sure that this figure retained its G1 look and feel while creating a masterpiece.
“Created with the best epoxy and paints available and coated with a protective sealer for durability. He has full 360 degrees of rotation at both shoulders and 180 degrees of rotation at both his elbows and knees. His fingers are functional and his head turns 360 degrees…this devastator is very large and very heavy…but his pose ability remains relatively good. He is very simple to transform…all six Constructicons do transform into their alt modes as shown and combining Devastator is very simple as well…though transforming instructions will be provided to the winner…(note: this custom is not recommended for children but collectors only as some care needs to be taken when handling the figures)…”

Mooncricket pays a very nice homage to a G1 classic with his Custom Animated Transformers Grimlock in Gernation 1 style. The paint aps are very nicely applied on this figure and it is very smooth looking and professional. It takes a very talented artist to make paint appear like glass on plastic and this is a great example of how a great technique translates into a work of art.
This figure looks awesome in robot mode, where the shiny chrome, reds, golds and blacks have all been re-done to look like the classic Grimlock we all know and love. The G1 colors are all in the right places and this figure would make a great addition to your Transformers collection. It is still great to see customizers paying homage to the original and Sam’s Customs has outdone himself with his Custom Transformers Universe Generation 1 Jazz figure. Looking at this figure brings back so many memories of playing Transformers with my friends in elementary school. For a period of time, we would all bring our Transformers to school and recreate the cartoon at recess. Some interesting things to note about this custom include:

** REAL RUBBER TIRES have been installed, and they still roll!
**Custom head to better resemble his G1 countenance!
**Completly redone front end to look like the martini Porsche
**G1 styled weapons made to fit!
**Custom made decals to give an authentic G1 look!

Shockwave was already a great addition to the Transformers Classics line and, as expected, Jin Saotome goes above and beyond and really brings out the Generation 1 feel to this Custom Transformers G1 Shockwave figure. Using the purple and pink color scheme from the cartoon, this figure very closely resembles the Shockwave from the 1980’s. I like the modifications that were made from the Classics figure and it just goes to show you that more is less in robot mode. In blaster mode, on the otherhand, this figure closely resembles a German Nebelwerfer, a six-barreled (nonrotating) tubular projector, with barrels 3 to 3 1/2 feet long and 160 mm in diameter.
On that note, let’s hear more about this great figure from Jin: “This auction is for an 8” tall ‘Shockwave’ figure with removable arm blasters, magnetic shoulder cannons, and Space Cannon/Ship base. He has multiple points of articulation and in my opinion is the best Shockwave mold ever to come out of the Transformers line. He’ll fit right in with your current Transformers collection and is scaled to Voyager size. He doesn’t come with instructions because of the different Alt mode but you can probably figure it out by the pics. You asked for him time and time again, the cold and calculating Decepticon with the single eye. Shockwave is back and this time he’s packing an arsenal of weapons! As you can see he’s been decked out in G1 colors using deep shadows, highlights, metallic effects, and the shocking purple/pinkish color right from the show. Shockwave has also been sealed against paint wear and transforms into a Space Cannon or removing the base has him looking like a cosmic battleship of sorts. His arm cannons are removable and fire off missiles while his giant shoulder cannons magnetically mount and can be removed too. So, were you looking for the definitive Shockwave for your Classics/Universe collection?”
Master of the Generation 1 Custom Transformers, Shinobitron pays homage to another Predacon with his Custom Transformers G1 Headstrong figure. Back in February 2008, I featured his Custom Predacon Rampage figure. The Predacons are cool and it is great to see more customs and this Headstrong figure keeps the essence of the original with the G1 color scheme. Let’s learn more from Shinobitron about this great figure:
“HS is fully articulated and can transform freely! He has been detailed to resemble his G1 self and comes with his horn Sword and a gun! He has been given a metallic paint job for that extra shine when hunting down some Autobot! Need a Pred to add to your collection? Do you beleive that most of the jungles animals are red and Gold? This week, CreFigz has taken on a G1 Classic with his Custom Transformers Animated Grimlock figure. One of my favorite aspects of his figures is the way that he brings plastic alive to look like metal with his airbrushing techniques. The color choice and placement of them really pays homage to Generation 1 Grimlock while still giving him that animated feel to him. The deep reds, golds, and greys compliment each other very nicely and the way the figure is shaded gives it an added dimension of depth. A month ago, EnclineDesigns created a Custom 15″ Transformers Movie Optimus Prime and this week he has his next installment of movie accurate customs with his Custom Bonecrusher figure that stands 13″ tall. With a work of art like this, EnclineDesigns had to sacrifice the transforming function for this Decepticon legend, which is fine because if you look at the result, you will not want to transform this figure into a vehicle. The detail on this figure is amazing and EnclineDesigns is the first, that I have seen, to pay homage to this great Decepticon warrior in the scale he deserves. “Thank you for checking out my second HUGE custom from TRANSFORMERS live action movie. This time around I bring you Bonecrusher in all his angry Autobot hating glory. I am not even sure at this point how many figures, models, stryrene sheets, clay, or live animals I used to make this. But it was a lot!!! I have tried to make him as movie accurate as possible. But of course with doing this, he does not transform. I did make his arms and shoulders with up, down, in, out joints. They are also able to extend out like the toy and other pictures but never did in the movie. Bonecrusher also has his Mega Claw with 13 points of articulation. The wheels on his feet do roll!!! He has been airbrushed with enamel paints for durability. Then I added all the little details with brushes. Please remember, this guy has been built with a collector in mind. PLease note he can be posed but in mainly for display. I will have a few special features coming up later this week, but let’s just say that he in battle damaged for a reason.”
Paying a very nice homage to a Generation 1 classic figure, Defstar brings us his version of one of the few female Autobots with his Custom Transformers G1 Arcee figure. What I love about this figure is that is retains her Cybertronian look. Defstar chose the perfect shade of pink and white to compliment the classic nature of Arcee. Since the figure is pink and white, Defstar did a great job knowing where to add black accents to the figure to give it an added dimension. I don’t see Arcee’s come up very frequently so it is great to see her appear once and a while and Defstar delivered what fans want! When it comes to Generation 1 Transformers, Ironhide is one of the originals and you can’t beat that! Kids from the 1980’s had Ironhide in their Autobot line up and Rick Coronel has paid a great homage to this G1 legend by not only kitbashing him to G1 specs but also creating him in Masterpiece style. His Custom Master Piece G1 Ironhide will fit in very nicely with the MP collection. Standing about 7″ tall, Ironhide’s scale will look great standing next to the MP Prime. As far as the G1 likeness is concerned, Rick nailed this one! Albeit a van is not the sexiest vehicle to transform to but the way that Rick engineered the pieces together is amazing and I am very pleased with how this came out. BoskoesToys continues to amaze me with thier creations. This week, they bring us a Leader Class style Custom Transformers Galvatron figure that stands over 9″ tall. Tricking out the Energon Megatron figure to the max, this Galvatron pays a nice homage to its G1 counterpart with the nice shades of purple and oranges. Rather than describe the transformation process, they included a video to demonstrate:
You have to hand it to Jin for creating a mash up of two of the most popular toy lines in history with his Custom Cobra Rattler GI Joe Transformers Universe crossover figure. Using a great weathering technique, this Rattler is sporting the classic Cobra blue. The decals make this custom unique as the Decepticon Symbol and the Cobra Symbols compliment each other well on each wing. Let’s learn more about this great figure:
“Powerglide has been transformed into the most iconic Cobra aircraft, the Cobra Rattler. He’s decked out in a highly detailed paint job that includes realistic shading, panel wear, flight weathering, metallics, and is sealed to prevent wear. He even sports the Cobra Airforce decals as well as Decepticon emblems. His missiles are removable and he has a rotating center turret that activates his lights and machine gun sounds.”
Those who grew up in the 1980’s remember Ironhide as a a red and orange minivan. Sabrina Ng has taken the classic paint aps of the Generation 1 figure and fused it with the 2007 Transformers figure and you get her Custom Transformers Movie G1 Ironhide figure. Airbrushed figures are some of the best painted customs I have seen and if you are lucky enough to come across a customizer who uses this technique, you are in a for an eye candy treat. One aspect of the 2007 Movie Transformers that needed special attention was the look of the metal and steel and Sabrina has done an awesome job creating a realistic look of metal with her painting techniques. To tell you more about this G1 Ironhide, here is Sabrina herself:
“A weapons specialist, a tough soldier and one of the oldest Autobots. My fondest memory of Movie Ironhide is when he wanted to blow the dog away with his canons for peeing at his legs This is a very special custom to me as I took some time experimenting in combining airbrush shading with dry brushing to bring out a more shadowed steel look. After my G1 Optimus Prime, I felt that Ironhide deserved a G1 makeover as well. Ironhide was soaked, washed, cleaned and primed before painting. I made sure that the icky sticky factory finish did not interfere with my paint scheme. I applied three layers of shading combined with five shades of dry brushed silver. I gave him a very special metallic vermillion colour for his vehicle mode and topped it off with his G1 yellow stripe which is of a darker and more metallic variation of the typical sunset yellow. Various detailing were done but I was careful not to make Ironhide appear overly ‘colourful’. I ended this custom with several layers of anti UV gloss coat in order to protect and retain his vibrant colours for years to come.”
The War Within Transformers comic book mini-series takes place on Cybertron before the Transformers came to earth. Building upon this theme, Frenzy.Rumble has created his version of a Cybertronian Tank in the form of this Custom Transformers War Within Grimlock figure. Using the Transformers Universe Onslaught as the base figure, Frenzy.Rumble has really made this figure his own and given it a completely fresh look with a familiar face. The paint aps are stunning on this figure and he gives the vehicle mode some cool extras, not to mention the killer battle scars. Let’s read more about how Frenzy.Rumble made this great figure:
“There’s lots of cool extras and customizing done on Grimlock. To start, I resculpted the head to best resemble Grimlock, I painted the visor red, and the eyes light up using a small button on his back. The gray base color was achieved using several shades of gray, all the way to an almost white. The gun comes from a Gundam model kit and was painted to match this custom. The gun was also custom made, and the ammo belt actually fits into a small groove on the gun. He also makes lots of sounds… and lights up in various spots (alt mode lights on top)!!! As for the alt mode (Cybertronian Tank)… I wanted to give Grimlock maximum firepower. I made some custom guns that mount onto small pegs up towards the front. The guns can pivot upwards, downwards, and slightly outwards so Grimlock won’t have a problem locking onto any target. I also added some accessories to his alt mode, like the metal sections towards the back, the pipes on his back door, and the spare tire.”
It seems like everything Crefigz touches, turn to gold and his Custom Transformers Movie Bumblebeeis no exception. Putting Crefigz’s signature touch on this 1974 Camaro version, he has brought out the richness of color and detail in Bumblebee. The original Hasbro produced figure pales in comparison and is really only used as the base model for this custom creation. One aspect that I really love about this custom is that the great detail was paid to make this custom movie accurate, even down to the rust on the car mode. Crefigz has a unique talent to make plastic look like metal but don’t take my word for it. Here is how Crefigz explains his process:
“Took over ages to complete this one and it will be the unique one and only from Crefigz.
Airbrushed with the IMPROVED signature shading style by Crefigz. Completed with worn out effects based on The Transformers Movie 2007.Different perspectives of view under high or low lightings show different tones of shadings done on most of the parts. This figure is not only special in the shading, it also has a layer of coating that makes it look ultra realistic and protects the paints from wearing off. The whole figure has been painted all over again to bring out the realistic feeling the moment you look at it.”
“Insanely detailed realistic-movie accurate paint job” is the only way to describe Boskoestoys latest masterpiece. This Custom Transformers Movie Leader Class Megatronranks on the top of my list as one of the best movie versions I have seen to date. The paint aps are so accurate and applied in such a way that the figure looks like metal. Check out all of the detail that went into this awesome Megatron:
“Next the Blue LED eyes- the biggest problem with movie Megs is that his eyes didn’t light up. We fixed the problem by installing a tiny blue LED system in his head. The whole light system is contained in the head and works on a push putton. Push it once and it goes on a pulse. push it again and it stobes, push it a third time and give Megatron a steady glowing blue gaze- finally push it a forth time to turn it off. The LED system runs on 4 small watch bateries, and they are replaceable infact we’ll include a spare set. The head mod doesn’t change up any of Megatrons transformation, and aestheticallty is very discret. Claw fix- We fixed it so it shoots out when you push the button. Fushion Cannon Fix- Removed the spring so you can just flip it open and it stays that way until you fold it back in. Fairy wings- We didn’t remove them ’cause we like’em. If you win this custom but want them removed they’re as good as gone.”
Shinobitron always puts a cool spin on his customs while retaining their G1 likeness andrs his Custom Transformers Animated G1 Swoopis no exception. Calling Swoop a “flying ninja,” Shinobitron added a custom double edged sword to fit more with his concept. Let’s read more about how Shinobitron came up with this concept:
“Don’t get me wrong I love TFA Swoop but he should have been so much more. My Swoop comes detailed to look like his G1 self and is done in metallics for that extra shine. Swoop still stands 6″ tall and is fully articulated. Along with being superposeable Swoop can still change into his Pterodactyl Dino mode. The dino mode has been changed with added missiles that can be attached during both modes. The TFA figure comes with a cool looking mace, but to me thats not a weapon for an aerial warrior. Swoop has been given a double edged sword that fits his look and new personality. The sword looks awesome and can be used in many of Ninjaesk poses.”

Sometimes you have to sacrifice an aspect of a figure to make a truly amazing design. Encline Designs did what needed to be done and created a work of art with his Custom 15″ Transformers Movie Optimus Primefigure. To pay great homage to Optimus, he had to make a non transforming Transformer but the end result is unreal. Scale is one aspect that Hasbro has grappled with ever since they started producing toys but it is customizers like this show them how the proper scale can really add a tremendous amount of value to the design. Capturing the grit and mechanics of the movie, Encline Designs balances emotion with realism. Let’s read more about what inspired this amazing figure:
Hello fellow Transfans and collectors. Have you found all your movie Primes lacking something? I thought Hasbro really broke some new ground with the Transformers movie toys. Leader Prime is great. But, he is lacking one thing. SIZE!!!!! Up for auction is my scratch built 15″ MOVIE OPTIMUS PRIME. He was scratch built and made from a number of figures, spare parts, and even styrene for parts I had to create. He does not transform. But, with out transforming, I was able to add a bit more to get the bot I wanted. I built him how I want him to be. He has various truck parts for body parts. I built him from the inside out. I airbrushed the truck body with a mix of red and copper pearl, then faded from back to front with a red candy. The blue is a mixture of blue, purple pearl, and silver. I then hand pinstriped the flames. I then did multiple brushing techniques for fine details. He has been painted with automotive paint and clear coated. I also added some damage and hieroglyphs to his face.He has about 30 points os articulation including his waist and chest. His head, shoulders, and wrists are on ball joints. One of my favorite shots in Transformers in after Prime rips the top off of the Sector 7 Escalade and we are looking up at Prime and you seethe silhouette with the headlights shinning. So, I installed a battery pack inside that runs off of 2 AAA batteries. The pack lights up the headlights, eyes, and yes, THE MATRIX OF LEADERSHIP!! This guy was built for a collector. I have taken great care in construction to make him safe to pose with careful adjustments.

I never grow tired of seeing customizers turn current figures into G1 classics. This week, Hunter Knight Customs shows us what the latest Prowl would look in G1 style with this Custom Prowl Transformers Animated G1 figure. The 1980’s Prowl was very simple and classic and Hunter Knight Customs captures that feel with his Animated repaint. If you think about it, the original Prowl was a cop car and back in those days, the only flavor of colors for those cars were the good old Black and White. The custom looks slick in motorcycle mode but you will have to head over to his Custom Prowl Transformers Animated G1 figure on eBay to view them.
I have to admit, I owned plenty of Gobots in my day so when I came across 007’s Custom Cy-Kill Transformers Animated Gobots figure, I had to write about it. Using the Oil Slick Animated figure was the perfect base for Cy Kill. Painting the figure in the Gobots classic Red, White, Blue, and Yellow, the figure pays a nice homage to the leader of the Renegades. Come to think of it, the Transformers movie version of Starscream would make a great Leader 1 if anyone want to take that project on. When I first saw Frenzy.Rumble’s Custom Transformers Menasor G1 figure I was at a loss for words, which is not good for a blogger When I composed myself, I began looking closer at this work of art that stands over 17″ tall and began to see how awesome this figure truly is. Due to the fact that the sum of the parts make the whole, let me start with the Stunticons themselves:

Let me stress that this is not a repaint of the G1 Menesor but it is actually 5 distinct Stunitcons that combine to make Menasor. Each Stunticon looks to be painstakingly detailed and Menasor is the beautiful creation that is made up of them. The colors on this one remind me a lot of the Generation 1 combiner and each figure resembles their former self from the 1980’s. Stay tuned for updates as Frenzy.Rumble has informed us that there will be 3 bonuses added to his Custom Transformers Menasor G1 as it progresses for check back often.
Crefigz, in another one of his signature shading jobs, has created a Megatron that will make fans drool over. This Custom Transformers 2008 Movie Megatronhas to make the execs over at Hasbro cringe when they see great work like this and it is a shame that they can’t make toys as good this but then again, customizing is an art form so I would not want them to make figures this good. I still love a good Megatron and this is one of the best. Kyle Robinson has taken 1/5th of the Stunticons and paid homage to one of them with this Custom G1 Tranformers Breakdownfigure. The combiner figures are great and I still own Menasor and it is great to see people making these figures. Staying true to the G1 nature of this custom, Kyle has done a great job matching the colors to make this custom come to life. The head sculpt is my favorite part of this custom as it does not exactly match the G1 figure, it does a great job keeping with the scheme of the updated figure. BoskoesToys puts their spin on what they think Scourge would like if he appeared in the upcoming Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen movie with thier Custom Leader Class Sourge Transformers Movie figure. One thing that sets this apart from other Scourge customs I have seen are the awesome flame effects (take a look below)
These effects are very realistic and add another dimension to the figure. Imagine if Scourge ever met The Falllen and you have BoskoesToys version! matt1989cars has finally figured out a solution for the cab on the Voyager Class Optimus Prime. He has turned into a double barrel machine gun that looks like it can do some serious damage. This Custom Voyager Class Optimus Primefigure is very nicely detailed and the added use of the cab as a bad ass machine gun is a reason to own this custom. Many fans complain about the cab but turning it into a weapon was something different. Like all of his customs, matt1989cars has great attention to detail and the dio adds an extra level of display. EnclineDesigns proves once again that he can take a normal Optimus Prime figure and transform it into a formidable predator with his Custom Nemesis Prime Transformers Animated figure. This custom is a step above the rest of the Animated Transformer customs I have seen to date for several reasons. First, EnclineDesigns has retained some of the coolest G1 aspects of Optimus Prime in his Nemesis Prime figure. For example, he has a custom trailer and he also went as far as customized his version of Roller (which you can read more below). The backstory and how it was made is awesome so let’s hear it from EnclineDesigns himself:
“I have always thought, “What if there was a PREADTOR TRANSFORMER?” This is what I got. I have repainted a Voyager class Transformers animated Optimus Prime to bring you the most lethal Cybertronians. I completely took his chest apart and added in four LEDs with an off on switch on the back. I resculpted the grill to look like teeth that way, his chest looks like a skull. I also added teeth to the outside of the face shield and added self inflicted battle scars to the face underneath. As you can tell, he has battle damage with glow in the dark fluid. The Trailer, arm guards, hands, and shoulder gun are connected with rare earth magnets. The smoke stacks can rotate to become arm cannons. Nemesis is also G1 accurate in that his hands must be removed to transform. But do not worry!!!! They are stored on the walls on the trailer along with his arm plates, if you wish to store them there. What else can be stored in the trailer. Well, Optimus Prime has Roller, so Nemesis has RunOver. His only trusted companion. RunOver is a repainted ACTIVATORS ANIMATED BUMBLEBEE. I painted him with a cracking effect that is achieved by painting one color on top of another before it is fully cured. This added to the “Death” affect for RunOver I was looking for.”

The Transformers Universe 2.0 line is proving to be a very nice canvas and another creative outlet for Transformers customizers. In December 2007, I wrote my first ‘The Fallen‘ article and it is great to see another one come on the scene. I just started writing about Dark Cave Customs’ figures and I thoroughly impressed with what I see. His Custom Transformers Universe 2.0 The Fallen figure is no exception. Using the TFU 2.0 Onslight as a canvas, DCC has brought out the grit and anger in his custom with excellent attention to detail. This figure includes a removable heavy gun and dual bladed gauntlet. The cannon barrels have been upgraded and head modifications have been made. I would highly recommend heading over to see DCC’s Custom Transformers Universe 2.0 The Fallen figure as this is one to add to your collection.
Dark Cave Customs has added another figure to the growing Custom Animated Transformers with his Custom G1 Cyclonus Animatedfigure. Painted in classic Cyclonus purple, this figure is a great representation of the G1 Transformers Movie version. The angles on the figures of the Animated Series lend themselves to a great canvas for creating G1 figures. The head sculpt is crafted in a way that pays a very nice homage to the classic figure. Dark Cave Customs provides a little more detail about how this custom was created:
“Cyclonus is a repainted and modified TF Animated Starscream action figure. He includes a two removable stun cannons, which can be mounted under his wings, or attached to his gauntlets with embedded super magnets, and the head has been modified to better resemble his G1 namesake.”
Taking on the minibot, FrenzyRumble uses the Transformers Universe line as a base for his Custom Transformers Animated G1 Powerglide figure. There is nothing mini about this Autobot as the Transformers Universe line gave this little a hero an upgrade to Ultra Class. Giving Powerglide a much needed Generation 1 makeover, FrenzyRumble describes his painting technique and process to get his figures just right:
“This time around, I actually dyed the original figure in a burgundy plastic dye bath. This tedious process left my stove and hands bright red for a week, but more importantly changed the white plastic to a deep burgundy red. This ensures any scratches, dings, etc, would only expose burgundy, rather than white. Like all my customs, I went over the edge with detail. EVERY detail is painted to perfection. The red was actually achieved using various blending and dry brushing techniques. There are roughly 10 or more shades of red. The arms and legs were painted in various shades of metallic silvers, golds, coppers, and gunmetal. Nothing beats the amazing results from enamel metallics….it will actually shimmer in the light. On Powerglide’s plane mode, there is an American flag (which can be changed to your countries’ flag) and near his cockpit, are traditional “kill point” markings, showing the number of Decepticons he’s taken down. All paints used in the process were 100% enamel, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!) I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations. In addition, he’s got lots of sounds and lights. Pressing a small button in Warthog (plane) mode the cockpit and jet exhausts light up. Pressing that same button in robot mode lights up his eyes (although painted light blue to resemble his cartoon persona) This is a must-have and definite collectible for G1 and movie fans alike. “

The Transformers Animated series is providing a great canvas for some killer customs. Up this week is Shinobitron’s Custom Transformers Animated G1 Brawn Minibotfigure. Using the Animated Soundwave figure as the base, the way the car mode resembles the G1 Brawn nicely. The spare tire on the roof is a nice addition to the car, which adds the G1 flare that Transformers fans will love. In robot mode, which you will have to view Shinobitron’s auction to see, the head that was sculpted to really pays a nice a nice homage to the G1 minibot Braun’s look. BoskoesToys has created one of the most intricate and bad-ass Rodimus Prime’s I have seen to date with his Custom Transformers G1 Rodimus Primefigure. Using the Energon Leader Class Megatron as a base, this figure bears no resemblance to its former self as BoskoesToys has completely transformed the leader of the Decepticons into the new Leader of the Autobots in a stunning form. The paint aps and detailing is very intricate with this custom and the colors are amazing. The custom looks awesome in car mode as BoskoesToys has captured the essence in this G1 Rodimus remake. Sabrina Ng has taken the Premium Leader Class Prime a step up and made it her own with her Custom Transformers Leader Class Movie Optimus Primefigure in Generation 1 style. It is really great when customizers go back to the G1 roots. The way this custom was painted gives it a metallic look that only a true artist can achieve. The truck actually looks like it has rivets in it. The color red is a very nice and richer than I have seen in most custom Prime’s but the color goes well with the figure. Here is how Sabrina made this work of art:
“I’ve airbrushed, painted, dry brushed, weathered and highlighted the entire figure to be as realistic as possible!!! Well, let’s see. After washed and dry, I gave him a coat of primer followed by a base coat of steel and gold. Anyway, I then gave him a nice overall chrome silver coating as well as 2 layers of gloss coat before I started on his primary colours of specially mixed red and blue paint. MP-01 had a chilli red colour scheme but I felt that it was too common and doesn’t do this figure justice. Thus, I settled on a more intense shade of red and blue to give him a deeper character. Body parts were painted with a shade of silver and dry brushed for the steel effect. After all was done, I gave him another layer of gloss coat to seal in the paint before I started on doing some weathering and detailing for him. Before I ended the job, I gave him a glossy UV protection coat to prevent the colour from fading over the years. The end result, an ultimate work of art.”

I have not come across many unique custom Transformers but when I do it is a really nice change. AshKan has given the leader of the Decepticons a fresh look with his Custom Transformers Megatronfigure. This one of a kind Megatron is a nice change to the repaints and there are several aspects of this figure that make this one to add to your custom collection. First, the overall concept scores high marks in my opinion. I can imagine that this is one of Megatron’s incarnations when he was waging on Cybertron. As evidenced by Optimus Prime’s decapitated head, it looks like Megatron has prevailed. The lines on this custom give this figure a battle torn look as if this was Megatron’s suit of armor. The two different styled hands pay a nice homage to the Transformers Movie Megatron but with a totally different style.

Shinobitron’s latest G1 creation is this Custom Transformers Generation 1 Scourgeand he is really taking advantage of the Transformers Animated line in a very good way. This time, he has created this figure from the Voyager Class Megatron mould and what a great base figure this made for Scourge. The way Shinobitron sculpted the head, complete with the ‘fu man chu’ mustache Scourge is known for, really captures the G1 likeness and essence of this figure. The colors are spot on and the vehicle mode was a perfect choice for this figure.
BoskoesToys has brought to life one of the most menacing Transformers icons to life with his Custom Transformers Movie Unicronfigure. They really hit the mark on this one with thier choice of colors and staying true to the Generation 1 look and feel. Let’s get a bit more detail on this one from the source:
This dude holds up to 27 Mini-Con figures, has glowing eyes, a glowing fist, a chest cannon, and missles galore! There’s an Energon Unicron under all that delicious paint so i’m sure you’re acquainted with the sheer size of this transformable bahemouth. We took the paint all the way with this one- emptying out our trick bag, and painstakingly mixing up custom hybrid blends of our very favorite pots. Minimal mods, infact just some minor apoxy work on the chest so all is good in the hod as far his original Transformation goes.

First, I must say that this Custom Animated Transformers Ghost Rider is simply amazing. He has really thought of everything when creating this custom. There are basically 3 modes you can display this piece and every single one is awesome. I never thought the Oil Slick Animated Transformer could be used this way but Shinobitron really has a keen eye for what will look great and he comes through every time in the execution. “Ghost Rider has been detailed to resemble his Marvel Comics counterpart as close as possible. I tried my best to keep fans of both happy with 3 modes of conversion for the TF fans and Chains and flames for Rider fans. GR is fully articulated and can change freely from bot to bot to Bike. He has 2 head (one for Blaze and one for GR) and an extra set of hands for Blaze. Blaze needed a gun though so I was sure to include his Hellfire shotgun in TF form. But what to do when in the presence of evil? Extend the arms swap the heads and add some flames and you got a Robotic Ghost Rider ready for some fierce justice! Another cool feature is that when Ghost Rider is in his bike mode the Marvel Legends Super Hero Showdown Ghost Rider is able to ride him! Talk about your ultimate team up!!!”

I never thought I would be writing about another Punch Counterpunch custom but here I am! This week, Frenzy.Rumble has remade a Generation 1 classic figure with his Custom Transformers Punch Counterpunchfigure. Made from the Transformers Universe Sunstreaker figure, one of the coolest features about this custom are the customs lasers for each figure (which you can view below). This is one of the coolest customs because it is like getting two robots in one. The car mode is really slick and simple the red rims compliment the figure nicely. Punch Counterpunch G1 Custom by Frenzy.Rumble
The auction is for one transformer, with 2 robot forms; Counterpunch (the Decepticon) and Punch (the Autobot). Read the “Character Description” below to learn more about this awesome double-spy Transformer. To make his head, I actually took 2 other Transformer heads, cut them in half and welded them together with apoxy resin. His hands are articulated too! There are arm-mounted lasers for both Autobot and Decepticon forms, which shoot a real powerful laser light. Counterpunch is the version with blacks and blues, his laser is RED. Punch is the version with the yellow shoulders and chest, his laser is BLUE. There’s even an authentic working heat sensitive faction symbol on his chest. This figure has been meticulously detailed with several shades of silver, blue and yellow, an array of metallic colors, and many other colors. EVERY detail is painted to perfection. All paints used in the process were 100% enamels, so the finish is very durable, and the colors will stay vibrant and true for many many years. (Keep in mind, this is a collectible, so don’t throw it around!) I finished him off with several finishes of Testor’s clear coats, all matte, semi-gloss, and gloss variations.

puichun721takes on a classic Generation 1 figure with his Custom Transformers Universe Jazz figure. This version of Jazz has a custom head and other parts that make it look more like the cartoon figure. We got a peak into his workshop and here are some pictures of how puichun721 made this figure:
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this figure was ‘royalty’ and Crefigz has dressed Optimus Prime in his finest with his Protoform Optimus Prime Allspark Gold Custom Transformers Movie figure. The protoform mould is perfect for this kind of interpretation with Prime’s crown-like head, which is painted very well, bringing out the royal look of the figure. The gold accents outlining figure also add to this effect. This is one the most unique Protoform Prime customs I have come accross and you know when you buy from Crefigz, you are getting top quality!
Crefigz explains some of the back story that went into the thinking behind this unique Protoform Prime: “This Protoform Optimus Prime has went through evolution made by Crefigz. Got this inspiration after listening to the Transformers Movie 2007 : The Scores – “Arrival To Earth” and wanted to repaint something royal / kingly and it came out to be this so called Golden Prime son of Optimus Prime – The King Of Autobots. Shinobitron pays homage to a Generation 1 icon with his Custom Transformers Animated Cyclonusfigure. Created by Unicron, Cyclonus is the Decepticon’s air warrior and saboteur. Shinobitron has an eye for what will look great in the end and as he explains, “Starscream being made with reverse wings he was just begging to be Cyclonus!” I totally agree with his interpretation and the end result is awesome. Done in the classic Cyclonus purple, this custom has a couple features that add to its appeal. First, the head sculpt is maded from steel and Shinobritron was able to give this figure the aged and hardened look it had in the movie. He also included Cyclonus’ signature gray gun. “My Cy stands 8″ tall and comes fully articulated and transformable. Hes been done in my favortie Cyclonus color purple thus the embodiment of the Decep symbol! Whats Cyclonus with out a grey gun? I took care of that and included one! Cy has been given a custom head that was made from steel sculpt. Not only does his head look cool but he also has red piping to show how evil he really is. Cys head is pretty big with his warrior horns. I took care of this problem and made a slot under the landing gear to attach it when in jet mode. I also couldn’t decide where to place his Decep symbols. I am including 2 reprolabel stickers so you place your factions symbols where ever you like!”
When making customs, Jin not only goes big, he goes above and beyond to create one of a kind pieces that are made to fit in with the genera of choice. This week, Jin tackled a behemoth and the end result was his Custom Transformers Universe Style Megatronfigure. He designed this figure to fit in with the Transformers Universe but I do see a hint of G1 in Megatron’s eyes. The head sculpt defines this figure as Megatron and Jin has done a great job keeping Meg’s classic look and feel. In Tank mode, the barrel of the canon is huge and menacing. I also see a hint of Shockwave in the canon, making it a great centerpiece of the vehicle. The grays and blacks bring out the detail in the figure and red accents are in the right places.

Taking his inspiration from the Transformers Generation One classics, Ptitvite has created a stunning version of the Insecticons with his Custom Transformer G1 Bombshell, Kickback, and Shrapnelfigures. What is great about these figures is their cartoon likeness and classic look and feel. The colors compliment figures very well, which helps to define their Generation 1 appeal. Another aspect that I really like about these figures is they are scratch built, which demonstrates Ptitvite’s talent as a customizer. This delightful set of modified G1 Insecticons will please the most passionate collectors. They are now super-articulated and are truly unique. Some parts are scratchbuilt and some taken from other Transformers. I carefully enamel-painted them, inspired by their cartoon interpretation and a bit of my own. They represent about 55 hours of work altogether…for toys that size! I really work hard on my customs and I always try to make them look perfect.
I have always been a fan of the Protoform figures but they were lacking something…a good paint scheme and Crefigz solves this issue with his Custom Transformers Movie Protoform Optimus Prime figure. One of Crefigz’ strengths is his shading technique and he really goes to town on this figure. The technique he uses gives the figure much depth and brings it to life. The paint aps gives this figure a metallic look that was lacking in the original design.
Sabrina Ng is back and has taken on her latest creation with her Custom Transformers Revoltech Nemesis Prime figure. The paint aps look very well applied and smooth and this was a creative figure to use as the base as it does not transform into anything (go figure…a non transforming Transformer). Typically, Nemesis Prime has been decked out in Blacks and Purple’s but Sabrina’s accent color of choice is teal (as she explains below):
I used a convoy revoltech to repaint it into the darker more sinister Nemesis Prime! I coated it with primer as the material was kind of rubbery. First time working with such a surface. Gave him a jet black base coat. Think I hit almost 8-10 layers of black and silver paint for him! My favourite was of course the teal. No Nemesis Prime of mine will be complete without teal. His chest plate was given the most sinister red that I could find. Really gave it all I’ve got into creating the perfect figure with all possible detailing. Too bad I didn’t have a Decepticon logo to paste on him.

Shinobitron pays homage to a classic figure from the 1980’s and finds a new way to use the Optimus Prime mold from the latest series with his Custom Transformers Animated Kup figure. What a great idea to use Prime’s animated figure as a base for this one as the vintage Kup takes on the almost the same design. The head sculpt is updated and reflects Kup’s age in a more dignified and refined look. At first glance, the head looks like it could belong on top of Panthro from the Thundercats but maybe Shinobitron will make another crossover figure in the future (a Thundercat/Transformers crossover is not likely but I would not put it past him…he has made some crossover figures in the past with his latest being a Custom Batman/Transformers crossover I wrote about a few weeks ago but I digress). The colors are spot on as this Kup has a nice powder blue like the classic figure. I have said it before and I will say it again, Shinobitron is the Man when it comes to G1 Customs and he is always thinking a step ahead and seeing what he can make and is not afraid of a challenge.
Jin Saotome has captured the classic feel of a 1980’s Transformers favorite with his Custom Punch Counterpunch G1 Transformers Universe figure. Part of being able to capture that feel are the colors used to create this figure. The yellows and the blues are dead on and the most unique aspect about this custom is that it is essentially two figures in one. Jin goes on to describe more about this unique custom:
“Punch is an Autobot, Counterpunch is a Decepticon, but they’re the same being! Confused? Not as much as the Decepticons will be when this Doublespy infiltrates their ranks. Punch/Counterpunch can be transformed into two completely different robots, just like his G1 form could. Just a few extra twists and turns will change Punch into his alter-ego Counterpunch. He (they?) have been painted with rich semigloss colors, bright highlights, and sealed to protect against wear.”
puichun721, a customizer based out of Hong Kong, has captured the Generation 1 feel of a classic Autobot with his Custom Transformers Universe Sideswipe figure. He has captured the cartoon feel of the figure and has done a great job with the fine details of the figure. For example, he has added a shoulder mounted canon, which will remind you of the 1980’s version. He has also reworked and sculpted the head which pays a very nice homage to the classic version. The paint is very well done and is in a nice deep fire engine red. The Autobot symbol and the air intakes on top of the car add a nice touch to the figure.
Sonray Customs has found a great use for the Star Wars Transformers figures with his Custom Optimus Prime G1 ‘pre earth’ figure. What a great idea to take a Star Wars Transformers Commander Cody and turn it into a G1 legend, Optimus Prime. I like Sonray’s take on this figure as it pays a nice homage to Optimus Prime’s earth likeness and what he may have looked like rolling down the streets of Cybertron. The G1 colors are great and the pin striping on the sides and the silver pipes gives this figure a very distinct and familiar. Sonray describes more about how he made this great figure:
“Basically I saw this awful SWTF toy in a store and saw that despite all its design flaws it had some potential to make a pretty good looking, pre-earth G1 Optimus Prime. So i took it home and painted him up with high quality acrylics and enamels in a pure G1 style, added a Movie voyager Prime head, and attached on some old 20th Anni’ prime smokestacks i had saved.This is a great looking custom and very unique. Its fully poseable as you can tell by the pictures, and the paint is very durable.”
Sabrina Ng is new to customizing but you would not know it from looking at her Custom Movie Tranformers Jazz figure. It is great to see emerging talent in the customizing world, especially with Transformers. With the Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen due out in 2009, I am expecting high quality and unique work from the customizers out there. What struck me about this figure is the rich silver color that she was able to create and the finish on the figure is one to behold. The detailing on the circuitry in robot mode is a very nice touch as well, which was lacking in much of the original toys produced by Hasbro. I will be keeping an eye on this up and coming customizer as she already possesses the skills to deliver what fans want and need! Here she is to explain more about her Custom Jazz:
“Tried to give him a more accurate colour scheme faithful to the movies. Buffed, polished and waxed to get a very smooth finish. Managed to get some weathering in as well in certain parts of the body. Also, rest assured that all the pictures taken are not doctored or edited in any way to give it a more than accurate representation.”
Encline Designs crosses two Transformers wolds together with his Custom Allspark Nemesis Prime Transformers Animated figure. The love the harsh steel look of this figure (when the lights are on) as it makes a stark contrast when darkness succumbs Prime and you see him in his Allspark glory. What a fantastic idea and executed well. Encline Designs did not over do the Allspark aspect as I could imagine someone running wild with the glow in the dark aps. The lights add great dimension to the figure and this would be something you want to sit and stare at with the lights out. Here is how Prime was made and the story behind him from the source:
How Prime was Made
He was dismantled and rebuilt. First you will notice I ran four red LEDs though the chest cavity with an on/off switch and battery pack on the back. It has a removable cap to replace the batteries. I removed the blue glass and replace it with clear acrylic sheets sprayed with transparent red. While apart, I airbrushed the whole figure with Flat Black enamel. I always liked purple on this guy, so, I put a simple metallic purple stripe on him. The paint is great, but no need to let Chuck Norris fight with it!! Then, I panel lined with GLOW IN THE DARK paint, and airbrushed glow in the dark ALLSPARK energy markings on him. I figured Nemesis Prime needs to have weapons like Prime, but a lot more menacing. So he has a new axe, the regular axe, a new arm grapple with blades, and not to mention the Chrome removable smoke stacks/rotating arm cannons. Also, look under the face mask!
The Story Behind the Figure
I thought it would be cool if the new C.E.O. of Sumdac Ind. wanted to create a bot to get rid of ALL transformers. While a rouge psychotic Transformer with the ability to scan other Transformers and gain there powers is heading to earth, from the future to scan Optimus Prime because he has become the greatest warrior, and next thing you know, he crosses paths with allspark and Sumdac Ind. to become the greatest threat to ALL TRANSFORMERS. So, there you go, you can complete the story when you add this to your collection.
Adding some spice to Transformers Animated line, Jin Saotome cooks up this bizarre fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron known in the Generation 1 world as Guiltar. Oh yes, don’t forget to add a pinch of ghost spark from Starscream and you get a pretty cool figure that I will gaurantee will never see the light of day in the Animated line. The molds of Optimus Prime and Megatron were perfect for this creation. When I first looked at this figure, I thought Jin had made two heads for it but when I read more about it, he actually created a movable faceplate that you can operate via a level to show a more rabid look to the figure. This figure looks very well put together for being a fusion figure and one to own for the hardcore Generation 1 fans. Guiltar, also known as the “Great-Gun Soldier”, is a bizarre, vicious fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron, sent to attack both Autobot and Decepticon alike. It is ultimately a lifeless shell created by the Quintessons, animated by the “ghost” spark of Starscream. It has a massive artillery truck mode, as well as multiple gun configurations for its robot mode. Physically, it can hold its own against many of the toughest Transformers.
Boskoestoys have outdone themselves once again and paid a really nice homage to a 1980’s legends with their Custom Transformers Generation 1 Shockwave figure. Made from a Transformers Classics Megatron, Boskoestoys has taken that mold to the next level. The head sculpt is great and really captures Shockwave’s G1 look. Another aspect that captures the Generation 1 feel is the color as Boskoestoys was able to replicate a very close match to the original scheme with the nice addition of color variation. Shockwave come jammed packed with some really cool accessories, some which may surprise you! For example, Shockwave comes with a cool Lightsaber (yes you read that correctly), an Energon Axe, 7 different left hand attachments (fit in and out on a sturdy bionical type plug system, attachment port flips out of left forarm, and back in for transformation), a lightning rod, and the large base.
Shinbitron is not afraid to take on a challenge and he proves this week after week, especially with his latest Custom Headmaster Transformers Generation 1 Mindwipe and Vorath figures. He always find some really cool base figures to work from and the end result is always a unique and quality piece. This time, he has chosen to take on Mindwipe with his little buddy Vorath so you are getting 2 for 1 with this one. This figure resembles a huge bat and also the G1 version of Mindwipe in robot mode. Here is a little more insight into his creation from Shinobitron himself:
“So I decided to take a stab at another one of the lovely Headmasters this time a Decep. I chose Mindwipe cause he was a cool Vampire bat that could control your mind! Mindwipe of course doesn’t come alone and comes with his partner Vorath. My Mindwipe comes standing near 7″ tall and is fully articulated. He comes with a gun and his tail can convert into a sword. The wings can pop into his back as seen and they also can double as swords!. He can easily change to batmode and has been given shiny red eyes that say BID ON ME!! YOU CANNOT RESIST!!!”
Now that the Transformers Animated Series are in full force at retail, we are seeing some great customs of figures you will never see in stores. Jin Saotome has his take on the evil Autobot with his Custom Transformers Animated Nemesis Prime figure. Painted with a smooth finish, Jin’s choice of colors fit in nicely with the rest of the Animated Transformers in the line. Instead of the typical black and purple color scheme, Jin chose a nice light blue, red, and black scheme. What do you get when you cross DC Comics and the Transformers Animated series together? You get one kickass Custom Transformers Animated Batmobile crossover figure from Shinobitron. When I first saw the Transformers Animated Lockdown figure, which this custom is based off of, I thought to myself that this looked very much like a vehicle that was zooming around Gotham city. Sure enough, Shinobitron has executed this crossover very nicely. The black paint aps and the colors fit nicely with the color scheme of the Transformers Animated series and the choice of the figure was spot on as Lockdown provided so much to work with. The addition of the Bat symbol on the chest is a nice homage to Batman and I like the fact that this figure does not have any autobot or decepticon symbols on it. It is a true crossover figure that can fit in both the Transformers and the Batman Universe. The addition of the soft goods is a nice touch and, in robot mode, the figure takes on the persona of Batman with the cape. Overall, very well executed!

A couple articles ago, I was reviewing a Custom Animated Starscream and I said that I was not a huge fan of the Animated Series but the figures have really grown on me. I actually picked one up and held it for the first time on Father’s Day and I actually really like most of the figures. I ended up buying Starscream, Megatron, and Bumblebee but if I had come across a Grimlock, I would have bought that one too, which brings me to the topic at hand. encline598 has done a spectacular job with his Custom Animated Transformers Grimlock figure. The figure, in many ways, pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 Grimlock figure with its simple silver and gold paint aps and new head round bring out the feel of the 1980’s figure but with an updated look. I was not too impressed with the original paint scheme that Hasbro chose but I am glad that encline598 has gone back to the basics and really made a great looking figure. The hammered silver look blends nicely with the overall look of the figure and it will fit right in with the other Animated Transformers, which is very important because you would not want mismatch in paint style to make the figure look out of place.
When frenzy.rumble tackles a Transformers project, he goes BIG! Take a look at his latest creation, a 16″ Custom Transformers Devastator Combiner figure. I really like frenzy.rumble’s artistic liberties he has taken with this behemoth as I think it is a vast improvement to the original Devastator while still retaining the classic Generation 1 styling we all know and love. First off, you may notice the absence of a pretty dominant color purple that was the focal point of the 1980’s classic. He has gone with a metallic look where there used to be purple and I think that adds very much to the look and feel of the figure. You can tell that this combiner has been painstakingly painted (as you can read below) as frenzy.rumble has achieved a nice Constructicon hue. frenzy.rumble goes into a bit more detail on how he created his masterpiece:
“Devastator is a combiner! This means he is 6 individual Constructicons that transform into construction vehicles, which combine into 1 gigantic Decepticon. In the slideshow below, you can scroll through the various pictures of each of these Constructicons, please note; there are 3 pages of slides. But if these aren’t enough, to see many more pictures (including how this masterpiece was created) search “frenzyrumble” on Google. (It should be the 1st result returned)There are over 30 points of articulation on Devastator…. his head is on a ball joint, waist slightly rotates, shoulders move in and out, arms have 360 rotation front/back ways, elbows bend, forearms rotate in and out, all fingers (minus thumbs) have 3 points each, leg/hip moves outwards and back, knees bend, lower legs rotate outward/inwards, feet pivot on ankle (Mixmaster only.) I built this custom starting with 6 individual transformers, which I completely took apart, removed any factory paint, and primed with plastic primer, which provides a very durable protective under paint. All paint you see is 100% enamel. It’s harder, and more durable than the customs you’ll see painted in acrylic. Also, enamel paints are ‘color-fast’; meaning they will retain their original color for 10+ years, whereas acrylics typically fade after 2-3 years. The yellowish-green is a result of 5 different shades. The silver metal robot parts on him were painted in 6 shades of silver, to give the ultimate metallic look.”

Now that the Transformers Animated figures are out in full force at retail, we are seeing more and more customs week after week. Using a perfect base figure from the new Animated Series, Jin Saotome has given the Lugnut figure a face lift and turned it into one of the coolest minibots with his Custom Powerglide Transformers Generation 1 Animated figure. Although this figure is far from mini, standing at 7″ tall, Jin pays a nice homage to the little red plane known as Powerglide by closely matching the distinct rich red color that the original minibot was painted and also keeping the light gray accents. In the original figure from the 1980’s, the head was cone shaped as the figure did not have much articulation or hiding places for transforming parts so I like the fact that Jin did not try mimic this aspect and give this Powerglide a pointy melon and kept true to the facial features with a new head sculpt. Jin has many talents but one that I really appreciate is he is not afraid to give figures new heads (and sometimes he gives them two) to keep in line with the original designs.
Back in black! Jin Saotome takes the Animated Starscream figure and gives it a classic, Generation 1 feel while still retaining the animated nature of the figure with his Custom Transformers Animated Skywarp figure. Looking like it fits right into the Animated Series, Jin has decked out this figure with the classic purple and black deco and even has given him a new head sculpt and in Jin’s own words, “a very peeved Skywarp, probably because he’s being bossed around by Megatron all day.” I would believe it! The colors are rich and toned perfectly to mirror the other figures in the Animated line. In the most anticipated movie of 2007, CREG Customs’ recreates the Transformers Movie version of Optimus Prime in the most detailed, realistic custom I have seen to date. Through advances in CGI, Optimus Prime was able to exhibit emotion in the movie with various facial and mechanical expressions. To achieve emotion, the eyes and mouth are typically manipulated so that human emotions are mimicked, giving Optimus a persona that the 1980’s cartoon could never achieve. That is one thing to capture that emotion for a multi million dollar movie but it is equally as difficult to capture feelings through sculpting a toy. Not only does this figure have amazing detail, CREG captures the raw emotions of Optimus with two types of custom heads: one with a mouth guard and one without. The head without the guard, really does a great job at capturing various looks of Optimus and, depending what angle you look at him, the figure will appear to exibit different emotions.
A stealth aircraft is an one that uses stealth technology to make it difficult to be detected by radar by employing a combination of features to reduce visibility in the visual, audio, infrared and radio frequency spectrum. Well known examples include the United States’ F-117 Nighthawk and the modern F-22 Raptor fighter, which was the vehicle mode of choice for Starscream in the 2007 Transformer Movie. The stealth bombers I am familiar with have a black deco, like the Custom Stealth Starscream figure by Chih!
Chih’s not only provides him with a stealthy paint job, but he also pays a nice homage to Skywarp, a Decepticon Seeker Jet that has a purple and black Generation 1 deco. The nose cone and the wing trim give this figure its signature G1 appeal and Chih even went as far as coloring the cockpit glass the classic yellow/gold that topped the 1980’s classic seeker jet. Crefigz pays homage to the Generation 1 Starscream of yesteryear with his Custom Generation 1 Transformers Animated Starscream figure. First off, the base figure that Crefigz had to work with is stellar. I am not a huge fan of the Animated Series but some of the figures they made are really nice but it suffered from a lackluster paint scheme, which Cregfigz has more than made up for. Not only is this figure a Generation 1 throwback, the way it was painted makes it look like it could fit into the animated series today. You know you have come across some talent when a customizer can take a figure and make it fit into the current scheme of the series. The toning on this Starscream is down right amazing, giving it the cartoon feeling. The texture of this figure is also something to note as the toning has been done so smoothly that it looks like a factory job. All things considered, I think this may be one of the best looking Generation 1 repaints I have seen thus far.
Much in the spirit of his G1 counterpart, Starscream is a sarcastic, treacherous and two-faced usurper, who desires to be the leader of the Decepticons by overthrowing Megatron. However, his attempt ultimately backfired. As with all previous incarnations of the character, he transforms into a fighter jet, armed with his signature null-rays.
Chih is heating up the Transformers category with his Custom Megatron Transformers Movie figure. I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not but I have seen a decrease in Transformers customs with the introduction of the Premium Series Transformers. I must say, the Premium Series is a slight improvement to the figure line but they do not hold a candle to the talent, craftsmanship, and artistic ability of the customizers out there and Chih ranks very high on my list of people that consitantly create quality pieces for the fans out there.
For toy companies, it would seem like a simple task: Create a figure that comes close to their movie likeness. I guess that was what they were trying to achieve with the Premium Series line but they have to realize that they need to up the quality of the figures if they are to compete. Fans are growing tired of repaints and poor quality figures and that is where customizers fill the gap. Chih’s Custom Megatron is a great example of Megatron was supposed to look. A very nice silver with bronze accents gives this figure that war torn battled look that the original toys were lacking. The custom transformers section on eBay has been a bit quiet but Jin has woken it up with his Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure. Some of the things I really like about about Jin’s customs are his quest to make it accurate, his attention to detail, and the quality and craftsmanship is light years beyond most. For example, in this Barricade figure, he has added a ball joint to the head, claws, and an LED kit so that the police lights work. My favorite part about this custom are the claws. I know it is a really small detail to be excited about but the original hands on the Barricade figure bugged me (well, most of the figure bugged me as it was not very movie accurate to begin with).
What if Jetfire played for the Decepticons? boggs6ft7’s plays this question out with his Custom Transformers Evil Jetfire figure. There are too many cool customs to write about each week but from time to time I look in eBay’s completed items and come across some gems and this is definitely one of them. Shinobitron, my go to guy for G1 Transformers, has a unique version of a 1980’s classic with his Custom Transformers Laserbeak figure. The unique aspect of this custom is that the eagle version of Laserbeak does not transform into a cassette tape but a pretty cool robot! Springer is a wise-cracking, easy-going, sharp-witted and somewhat caustic fighting Autobot. He has an unfailing optimism and good humor and courage beyond known bounds, and with it all, the willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends and the sake of his mission. Jin Saotome brings this G1 Classic figure to life with his Custom Transformers Springer figure. First appearing in the cartoon version of the Transformers Movie, Jin has given this figure a fresh look while retaining it’s G1 nature. The original Springer figure left much to be desired and was a very plain Transformer but Jin has given this figure a new life by using the Transformers 2007 Movie figure, Incinerator.

Rack up another Generation 1 smash hit for Shinobitron! This week, he brings us Soundwave’s saboteur with his Custom Transformers G1 Ravage made from the Energon Battle Ravage. This is a huge improvement from the original Hasbro release and Shinobitron has really captured Ravage’s classic look as he kept the paint aps simple with black and silver. I liked the way he removed the ball attached to his tail and the placement of the Decepticon symbols was also a great choice, which brings me to my next point. It is the little things that make a huge diference and make a custom come to life or simply capture the real style of the figure and the additon of the circular discs to Ravage’s legs is that little thing that made this custom stand out and complete Ravage’s Generation 1 look. I have said it before and I will say it again, Shinobitron is one of my favorite G1 Transformers customizers so head over to eBay and show him some love with some high bids!

Chris Morada shows us how he can take customizing to the next level with his Custom Transformers Generation 1 Beastbox figure, made from the Transformers Movie XBOX Controller. It really takes a keen eye to see a figure on the shelf of a store and know that it will become a work of art when completed. Crefigz gives a slick look that is movie accurate with his Custom Transformers Ironhide figure. What is really great about this figure is that it (1) looks very much like the Movie version and (2) the metal detailing looks very realistic. Here is a close up:
My favorite aspects of Crefigz’ Ironhide is that the truck mode and robot mode compliment each other very well. With some other customs I have seen, too much effort was spent on making the robot mode look great but when it is transformed back into truck mode, something just does not look right. dan-saoto has given Custom Transformers Movie fans a reason to run over to eBay with his Custom Voyager Class Ultra Magnus figure. The truck mode is nice and clean with a stark white finish, giving it a classic look. Keeping with Optimus Prime’s flare, the white flames add a nice touch that pay homage to the movie counterpart without over doing it. The metallics paint aps are in the right places and I like the red when Ultra Magnus is in robot mode. It is a nice surprise and adds some color to the figure. AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself.
Shinobitron: My real name is Justin and I currently reside in north western Pennsylvania. I’m 28 years old and work in a stock room for the Pittsburgh Steelers when I’m not making customs. I’m big into Anime and classic 80s toons. Not only do I customize figures I also make costumes. I’ve been Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, the Hobgoblin, and Soundwave! Soundwave could actually transform and the chest opened to reveal a cassette that also changed into Lazerbeak. LB had magnets in his feet that let him attach to my wrist!
My artist name comes from 2 things 1) Shinobi, one of my favorite video games of all time. Not only that but the remake for the PS2 had Hotsuma, the main character, in one awesome looking uniform. 2) Tron, not for the old movie but as in Megatron. I’ve always like the bad guys more. AFC: When did you start making customs?
Shinobitron: I started making them in 1999. This all started with my love for Resident Evil. I bought the entire set of figures from Toybiz and was mad no Wesker figure was made. I used a Toybiz Johnny Blaze and remade him into Wesker. That’s when this all started I then took it into Gundams, Various models kits, and random figures for practice. I got the heaviest into it however when the Marvel Legends released and have been very steady ever since.
AFC: How many customs do you work on at one time?
Shinobitron: For the most part I try to keep all my focus on one figure at a time. This lets me give all my attention to one item and let me give one figure my all. I do however base coat figures that up for painting while working on another figure. This let any sculpty or glues I have on my main project harden and keeps me from sitting idle. (I do cave and treat myself to some PS2 or PC games in between phases though)
AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?
Shinobitron: I have to go with Transformers on this one. First of all each piece can end up being super easy or one heck of a challenge. After you finish one of the pieces you get a great sense of accomplishment, knowing that you made not one but two toys in one project. You got a badass looking robot and a sleek vehicle that looks equally badass.
Another reason I like TFs is the fans reaction. TF has a diehard fan base that love their bots. When you sell a figure to a person and he/she says that your piece is proudly displayed in their collection for everyone they know to see it give you a great sense of pride.
AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?
Shinobitron: That’s a tough question. I would have to say a very rough tie between my Darkstalkers, Ghost in the Shell, Galvatron, and Hotsuma figures. These piece have a special place for me as they are major display pieces on my shelves.
AFC: What customs do you have lined up for your next ones?
Shinobitron: My minds always working on what to make up next. I’m a real spur of the moment kind of person and even though I set myself a list of figure to make I usually end up doing something else cause I just got a great base fig I “have” to use right then and there. Heres a tenative list: Goldbug, Movie Beachcomber, Hoist, SHS Venture Bros figures, Animated Deadpool, Female Junkions, gears, The entire Cowboy Bebop cast, Bludgeon, Anime X-Men, 8″ Master Cheif, Hellsing characters, G2 Grimlock, and more Sigma 6 Cobra members.
Believe me there so many I can’t even remember them all.
AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?
Shinobitron: Practice, Practice, practice. I know that Jin says this but its the truth. Never be afraid to use new techniques, screw things up or break things. Doing this is sometimes the best way to learn. Try new items, new paints, and new parts. Just remember to have fun doing it and never give up.
Chih has gotten back to military basics with his Custom Transformers Incinerator figure. Although this vehicle appeared in the Transformers Movie, it was not a central part of the storyline nor did it actually transform into anything, I feel this figure is a nice addition to the Transformers Movie line. With respect to Chih’s overall plan for this figure, it is spot on. I love the military grey and the Air Force decals really make this figure stand out. The copper accents are a great touch as they highlight the parts that are lost in the original release of the figure. Shinobitron has the knack of moulding and sculpting Transformers figures into Generation 1 classics. This week, he has created a far superior version of a Transformers Generation 1 Classic Dragstrip figure. Standing 6″ tall, Dragstrip has many unique features that make this custom a cut above the rest. What I like about this custom is that Shinobitron has taken many liberties with the figure but retained the G1 style look to Dragstrip. The original figure had a purple gun that mounted on the spoiler but in Shinobitron’s version, he has permanently mounted a silver blaster that is a great addition to the figure! The GI Joe Transformers comic was an interesting concept and I have been waiting to see if someone could pull off a decent crossover custom and it looks like Shinobitron nailed it with his Custom Transformers GI Joe Starscream Cobra Night Raven figure. One of my favorite planes in the GI Joe universe was the SR-71 Blackbird they dubbed the Night Raven. Shinobitron has done this bird some justice and it looks like he tried really hard to retain the classic 1980’s appeal of the Night Raven, even going as far as coloring the jet intakes orange like the original Cobra Jet. The smallest detail was not overlooked and if you look close enough, you can make out the tiny decals on the rear fins. Let’s read more about Shinobitron’s cross over custom:
“Screamers been made to resemble the way he did in the GI Joe TF Crossover. Screamer got to be The Cobra Commanders personnal jet, it must have been their stunning personalities or the love for each others voice. My Screamer stands at 6″ tall and had removable wrist lasers. Screamer can change into the Night Raven and has been detsiled to the extreme. Screamer has Cobra symbols the authentic night logo on the wing and tons of extra decalling that make him more than just a generic jet. He has been marked with warning markers at his exhaust ports hatches ect. Not only is he marked for Cobra but he also has very sutle Decep logos on his shoulders. Not only that but open his chest and his true aligence is reveiled!”
Bid on Shinobitron’s Custom Transformers GI Joe Starscream Cobra Night Raven figure on eBay today!
l.designs is showing his diverse talent with his Custom Transformers Leader Class Brawl Movie figure. One of things I really like about this Brawl is the depth that this figure has with l.design’s paint ap technique. The camo art is very well done and the tank looks down and dirty. The blackwashing on the figure gives it a realistic feel and the mud on the tank treads makes it look like Brawl has traveled a long way to open a can of whoop ass on some unsuspecting Autobots. Let’s get some more insight on how this Brawl was made:
“A lot of time and attention to detail went into making this as accurate as possible to available reference material I could dig up, but of course has my spin on it as usual. I started out in tank mode and took the approach of a real war worn tank. After creating a factory finish paint job from top to bottom I weathered this sucker as accurate as possible. The wheels were rusted a bit, then shined back up where it would naturally rub and thus be polished from use. Finally touches of mud were caked on top of that. The tracks themselves have dirt in the crevices, but then the exposed portion that would be rolling along several types of terrain have been scratched into a slightly polished look. All hinges and areas around hatches and edges and what not have a weathered metal look as the paint would be worn from these areas as well. There is soot stain across the paint job from years of battle and use as well as scratch marks here and there. The robot mode has had much the same treatment, with several types of metallic paint to give real depth to the metal areas.”
Straight from the War Within comics comes Warmachine’s Custom Transformers Sideswipe. One of the aspects I like about Warmachine is his ability to see a figure and truly make it his own. With this custom, he took the crossover Transformers/Star Wars Shuttle Tydirium and was able to look past the figure and see the potential to create a classic comic book figure. The paint looks impeccable and he has retained the G1 color scheme. I am really impressed with Warmachin’e work and this is your chance to own a one of a kind from a talented customizer. Let’s see how Warmachine made this great custom:
“Up for auction is a custom Transformers War Within Sideswipe modded from a StarWars Transformers Emperor Palpatine Tydirium Shuttle. I slightly modded a different head for him and added my own shoulder mounted missile launcher as well as a custom blaster rifle. Sideswipe is custom painted as seen in the War Within comics but with a couple more paint apps applied to enhance his overall look a bit. Now is your chance to add another character to your War Within collection. For the painting effects I used a combination of acrylic, and enamel paints as well as utilizing the drybrushing, panel lining, highlighting and wash techniques to achieve a more detailed look.”
One of my pet peeves with the Transformers Movie toys is that Hasbro keeps making toys out of vehicles that did not transform into robots but chih makes up for this by making a kick ass Custom Stockade figure. I guess Hasbro can still pumping out toys as this gives customizers a nice canvas to work with.
What I really like about this custom is that chih made the robot mode look a million times better with weathered steel, copper accents, and a dull black that makes gives the figure a fresh from battle look. Sometimes the showroom shine does not do a figure justice and chih has a great ability to make a blase Transformers and make turn it into a masterpiece.

Not happy with the Transformers Allspark version of Cliffjumper, chris-morada has unleashed his talent and created his own Custom Transformers Cliffjumper figure. The aspect that always strikes me about chris-morada’s work is the paint! He has the ability to create customs that have a ’show room’ shine. Certain customizers go above and beyond simply repainting figures and chris has sculpted a new head for Cliffjumper to give him a more Generation 1 feel.
chih has taken 2 Transformers Galvatron figures, Armada and Cybertron, and given them a G1 makeover! He as the unique ability to take mediocre figures and changed them into works or art. He calls it a 3 in 1 figure but it is actually 2 figures that were given the Generation 1 treatment so if my elementary education has taught me anything, 2 figures + 1 G1 makeover = 3. Ok ok…enough math…what I really like about these figures are the subtle details that bring out the real Galvatron in the figures. I prefer the Cybertron Galvatron over the Armada (personal preference) but chih actually does the Armada figure some justice. The Cybertron version of Galvatron makes a really cool car updated with G1 colors. The custom sculpt for the head really brings out the menacing look of the evil one and the canon on the arm cements the essence of Galvatron. All in all, these are two great customs that Transformers Armada and Cybertron fans would be happy to own. Let’s hear how chih made these great figures:
