Getting his inspriation from the Masters of the Universe Slime Pit box, Joe Amato created this unique henchman of Skeletor with his Custom Slime Pit Beast Man figure. It looks like Beast Man has been caught in the Evil Horde's pit of gruesome ooze and I love the way that the slime is layered and positioned on the figure. In addition to the cool looking figure, you also get some classic card art to go with it.
I have to admit, the Masters of the Universe cartoon was one of my favorites growing up. I would look forward to it every afternoon and Joe Amato has captured this classic box art in a figure you can add to your own collection!
When it comes to Master of the Universe Classics figures, MeMade Customs has a knack for creating one of a kind figures. This week, he brings us his Custom MOTUC Bluu-Revol figure, which is a figure and character that does not currently exist in the Universe of the Masters of the Universe. Having collected these figures myself, I can tell that Bluu-Revol will fit into anyone's collection. Taking on the persona as an ironclad ice horde gladiator, this figure has many cool attributes to it. First, the helmet is interesting as you don't know what Bluu-Revol's face looks like and you can only imagine. The apparatus strapped to his back is intriguing and I wonder if it is an ice generator. The look is completed with the broken chains dangling from his wrists and to get the full back story on that, go ahead and read MeMade's original story about this killer figure:
"Working as a slave for his entire life, Marcus was always a slave. There is never a time in his life that he doesn't remember being one. Raised in the Horde mines, he fought for his life protecting him and his younger brother Sparta from harm. One day Sparta was caught stealing a loaf of Eternian sweet bread by the on guard horde troopers. He would have been sentenced to death if it wasn't for his brother Marcus. Marcus stood before her attack and offered himself up in place of Sparta.
Hordak being of no mercy disintegrated Sparta on the spot in front of his brother Marcus. Marcus vowing to take his vengeance was placed in a mutagenic chamber transforming him from a simple young man into hey now ironclad ice horde gladiator. Now known as Bluu-Revo, Marcus does not remember who he exactly is but does remember vengeance will be his against he who has oppressed him the evil Hordak!"
You can check out MeMade's Custom MOTUC Bluu-Revol figure and his others he has for sale over on eBay.
Growing up watching He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was really fun and it was cool that Prince Adam had a talking cat! JACC (Joe Amato Custom Creations) imagines a world where He-Man trusty sidekick is more than just transportation and the occasional rescue feline with his Custom Battle Cat-Man MOTU Classics figure. Resculpting a removable helmet and chest symbol, JACC has retained the classic look of Battle Cat we grew up with while creating a totally brand new figure for us to enjoy. The green and yellow paint scheme is also new and to make this figure even more interesting, he also wrote up a really cool bio:
The armor on the figure completes the look and I like that he tied in the symbol and sword of He-Man, which makes it look like they belong together. The tunic is a nice touch giving Battle Cat a more human feel to the character. This would make an amazing addition to any MOTU Classics collection so make sure to snatch this Custom Battle Cat-Man MOTU Classics figure while you still can!
AFC has a virtual sit down with Masters of the Universe (and other genre) customizer extraordinaire Hunter Knight Customs! We wanted to learn more about his latest Custom Masters of the Universe Filmation Style Bow figure:
AFC: What custom do you have up for sale on eBay this week?
HKC: Masters of the Universe classics Bow inspired by the Filmation cartoon
AFC: How was this figure made?
HKC: Bow was really a simple one, since the most difficult part was to modify the boots to make them cartoon accurate. It’s basically the Bow base with He-man upper boots. They had to be shaved so the traditional Bow boots could be sculpted. His bracelets were also shaved, muscles resculpted and Filmation bracelets sculpted in place. The upper armor was resculpted as seen in the cartoon. I kept the quiver cause it just looks better and in character.
AFC: How many hours did it take you to create this figure?
HKC: Hmm hard to say, since the work is split in days/weeks. I'd say around 15 hours. I really like to take my time on making them, since a rush job is never good.
AFC: What inspired you to create this custom?
HKC: It was actually a suggestion from my Facebook fans/friends, they always wanted a Filmation style Bow Since the cartoon looks is quite iconic among He-man/ She-ra fans.
AFC: Is there any other interesting information this custom that you would like to share with your fans?
HKC: It was made by a fan, for the fans. It also includes an extra flaming arrow and the bow has a string added that allows the figure to shoot arrows..just don’t shoot at your pet….Shooting Panthor is fine though.
The MOTU 200x line that was produced back in 2002 provided the back story on the Masters of the Universe line we loved as kids from the 80's. As far as a cartoon goes, it ranks very high on my list as one of the best story lines for a toy line. The series met its unfortunate demise and was only run for a couple of years but I think the line was before its time. If the series came out today, I have a feeling it would have been around for a very long time. Fortunately for us, we have customizers like Hunter Knight to create the figures that were left in the line up and his Custom MOTU 200x Hordak figure is a great example of how one person can continue the legacy of a toy line one figure at a time. Like the 200x line, which was designed with hard lines and very sharp edges, this Hordak figure fits right into the line up!
With all of HKC's customs, painstaking detail goes into every figure. HKC took the statue and made prints of all the patterns and sculpts then transferred them onto a fully articulated base body. As you can see in the intricate designs of the armor, HKC really poured a lot of detail and effort into this great piece. The fireball adds that wow factor for me and gives the figure an added sense of personality when it is attached to Hordak's fist. I am very happy to see this line being built out one figure at time and I hope he continues his great work on other figures!
The Masters of the Universe line ranks up there with one of my favorites and week after week, Hunter Knight Customs continues to deliver the highest quality customs and his Custom MOTU Classics Captain Randor is one of those figures! If you are familiar with the Masters of the Universe cartoon and the toys from the 80's, you may remember a King Randor that came out in 1987. Before Randor was King, he was a Captain and the 2002 Masters of the Universe revival portrayed the back story on how Prince Adam becomes He Man. If the first episodes dubbed "The Begining," Captain Randor faces his arch enemy Keldor (who later becomes Skeletor) where he throws acid at Randor that is blocked by his shield. The figure portrays Captain Randor as he did in the 2002 cartoon and HKC has not only captured the essence of the figure but he also sytled it in the MOTU Classics form, which is what Mattel is putting out as their adult collector line. HKC has a cool video to a company his figure so head over to eBay and check out HKC's latest Custom MOTU Classics Captain Randor figure.
Taking a page out of the George Lucas' playbook of making figures that only appear briefly in movies for a half second is Joe Amato's Custom MOTU Classics Wind Raider Pilot who goes by the name of Sky High! All jokes aside, it takes a keen eye to spot this heroic sky strider from a Masters of the Universe poster and an even more talent to translate this tiny piece of art into a figure. Now that Mattel has released their first ever MOTU Classics vehicle, Sky High was made to fit in the new Wind Raider. Given the concept art that Joe had to work with, he did an excellent job staying true to the MOTU Classics look and feel all the while creating a brand new figure for the line.
Combining two of my favorite toy lines, Fernando has used combinations of Marvel and GI Joe body parts to create a new line of 3 3/4" Custom Masters of the Universe figures. I don't know how many countless hours it took this person to figure out what parts created which character from the classic 80's cartoon but the results are fantastic. He did a great job keeping the 80's look and feel of the characters while also giving them a more updated look, which is akin to what Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics line has done. The costumes and colors are pretty dead on and for He Man collectors that are running out of room to house the larger figure (you know who you are), the scale is small enough that this particular collection won't take up that much space.
Getting his inspiration from a 2002 the back cover of the 2002 comic book by MV Creations, Hunter Knight Customs brings us one of the most requested figures with his Custom MOTU Classics Illumina figure. HKC did a fantastic job translating the concept art into life, which finally brings this figure a reality. It is a shame when great concepts don't make it into production due to cancellations but it is great customizers that pick up the slack when the toy companies drop the ball. The figure is painted in Keldor blue and was made with armor accents that look very realistic, with decorative accents that complete the look of the figure from concept. The soft cape is a nice touch and softens the often hard looking MOTU Classics figures as most of them come with hard plastic capes. HKC also provides us with Emiliano's description of the figure:
"She's an old Gar with light related powers. She can control lights and she can blind adversaries when she fights. She's a formidable fighter, especially with melee weapons; in general her fighting skills are equal if not superior to a young Man-At-Arms, and also to a young Dekker. She's also a great strategist and wanders Eternia as a sort of nomadic secret agent..."

Each month, Matty Collector, Mattel's adult collector site, releases a new figure to add to their acclaimed Masters of the Universe Classics line. Last month, Catra from the She-Ra cartoon, was released and Hunter Knight Customs transformed this newly released figure into a fan requested member of the Evil Horde with his Custom MOTU Classics Scorpia figure. HKC, as always, did a fantastic job translating the cartoon concept art and show appearance into a fully poseable figure that is not on Mattel's list of upcoming MOTU Classics characters for production. What I love about this figure is that the scorpion limbs are seamlessly fused into the body, which is a testament to HKC's detailing and sculpting ability. The claws look very realistic and the tail is just the right size, which completes the look and feel of the classic She-Ra character. There are only less than 10 hours to go and this auction is over so head over to eBay to place a bid on HKC's Custom MOTU Classics Scorpia figure.
From the creator of the Steampunk WWII Jetfire custom comes Sculpt-Bot's latest venture into the classic era with his Custom MOTU Classics Steampunk Trap Jaw. Combining my two favorite concepts together (Steampunk and Masters of the Universe), the first word that came to my mind was raw when I saw this custom. The figure is over-the-top and captures the essence of Trap Jaw from the MOTU 200x line, where he was designed with over sized weapons and accouterments. You can almost hear the figure with its moving gears and parts; there is no way he can hide from his enemies. The color palette is dead on and the scaring and battle damage is very well executed. I only wish more MOTU figures were made in Steampunk style but one can only dream! For now, head over to eBay to check out more photos of Sculpt-Bot's Custom MOTU Classics Steampunk Trap Jaw.
Giving He Man's sister the reptilian coat of arms, Hunter Knight Customs gives the Princess of Power the treatment to fight off the wrath of the Snake Men with his Custom MOTU Classics Snake Armor She-Ra figure. She-Ra never appeared in Snake Armor in the MOTU 200x cartoon series but HKC is great at imagining different story lines as He-Man and She-Ra fight side-by-side to fend off the Snake Men. The metallic armor is very well dry brushed to appear like metal and the colors match the MOTU 200x cartoon style very well.
The detailing on She-Ra's armor looks awesome and the Snake emblem looks even better than how it looked in the cartoon. I love the way her chest armor blends in with the rest of the outfit and the larger jewel in the middle of armor completes look! To place a bid on HKC's Custom MOTU Classics Snake Armor She-Ra figure, head over to eBay!
I can see the creative gears turning with each Hunter Knight Custom and his Horde Apprentice Skeletor MOTU Classics Custom is another example of how imagination can turn a normal figure into a villain from a parallel universe. In the She Ra cartoon, we were introduced to Hordak, leader of the evil Horde and in the MOTU 200x cartoon, we learned that Skeletor was Hordak's apprentice at one point. You could argue that Keldor was Hordak's Apprentice as it depends on which storyline you follow (She Ra or MOTU 200x) but HKC has also provided an alternate Keldor head to play out this fantasy. One of my favorite aspects of this custom is the intriquate Ram's Head that adorns his kama around his waist. It could be conceivable that Skeletor used this concept to forge his Ram's Head staff but I will leave that up to your imagination to continue the story. To view more photos and to place a bid on HKC's Horde Apprentice Skeletor MOTU Classics Custom, head over to eBay.
The MOTU 200x line quickly became one of my favorite figure lines due to the highly detailed figures and storyline of the cartoon. Although plagued with severe lack of articulation, the re-imagined storyline and figure art introducd us to new characters and versions of the classic He-Man figures we grew up with. We were introduced to the Snake Armor version of He-Man in the cartoon and although a figure was made, Hunter Knight Customs has fashioned this awesome snake garb into a MOTU Classics figure with his Custom MOTU Classics Snake Armor He Man figure.
The detail on the armor is really well executed and crafted. In order to preserve the slimness of the figure, HKC deciced to paint the armor directly on the body, which was a great move as designing an extra piece of metal for this figure to wear would have made the figure too bulky. As you can see in the photo below, the snake armor symbol and the waste armor are meticulously crafted and painted.
I am typically not a fan of the multiple versions of the same figure that toy companies churn out but I was really impressed with Mattel's attention to detail and creativity with the 200x line. I really like that Hunter Knight Customs has brought this armor to a MOTU classics figure as now you can have the beauty of the Snake Armor in an articulated He Man figure. To view more photos of HKC's, Custom MOTU Classics Snake Armor He Man figure, head over to eBay!
Hordak and Skeletor never really got along. Although he was Skeletor's former mentor, Skeletor betrayed Hordak and trapped him in another dimension before beginning his own conquest of the planet Eternia. Imagine if Hordak broke free and began to transform Skeletor's minions into creatures with an allegiance to the evil Horde. Super Girl Saves imagines a world like this with her Custom MOTU Classics Horde Beast Man. Encased in Horde branded armor, this Beast Man met his fate when he crossed Hordak's path and became enslaved under his control. For being associated with Skeletor, Hordak punished Beast Man by sprouting ram horns from his head and possessing his mind like a zombie. This figure is a cool concept and adds another great one of a kind figure to your MOTU Classics collection.
The Shadow Beast is a being that was featured in the MOTU 200x cartoon and was recently released as part of the MOTU Classics line from Mattel. A customizer by the name of Super Girl Saves has an interesting take and story on this animal with this Custom MOTU 200x Horde Shadow Beast. Imagine if Hordak, leader of the evil Horde, got control of one these beasts and engineered it to do his evil bidding. The figure is fitted with cybernetic parts, which fit very well with the overall scale and look of the figure. If you want a MOTU figure with a twist, this is the one for you so head over to eBay and check out more photos of this one of a kind Custom MOTU 200x Horde Shadow Beast.
I always learn something new from customizers and Hunter Knight Customs let's us in that this little known factoid that the "Shadow Weaver is one of the most sought after characters in the She-ra line, due to the fact that Mattel does not own the rights to make her in toy form since she is a Filmation character," which would make his Custom She Ra MOTU Classics Shadow Weaver figure that more special. HKC is one of the few customizers that do He-Man and She-Ra figures and his latest figure is superb! Adding extra embellishments to her costume, the figure retains the classic nature of the 80's cartoon while giving the figure a more modern, sleeker look. Here are some of the details that went into this figure:
"She has been sculpted with exquisite attention to detail, adding some new elements to her costume as well as acrylic faceted jewels, that have been carefully placed on her chest plate. She preserves all of the essence of the classic character, but in a much more updated form! Her cape is made of soft goods and features a unique staff made only for this figure, representing the dark powers that fuel Weaver's spells!"
For fans of He-Man, we were elated to continue the series with She-Ra, since some of the characters of Eternia make and appearance in Etheria from time to time. For those who are not familiar with her, "Shadow Weaver is a vastly-powerful Horde witch, who commands an array of dark magic, and an encyclopedic knowledge of mystical lore. When Hordak arrived on Etheria, he promised Shadow Weaver great power in exchange for information about rebel leadership, to which she agreed (source: Wikipedia)."
The MOTU Classics line is ever so slowly introducing She-Ra characters to the ever growing number of figures but Hunter Knight Customs seems to be out pacing them with his latest Custom MOTU Classics Huntara She-Ra figure. HKC has an uncanny ability to translate television concept art from the 80's into a great looking figure that you will proud to display in your collection. He nailed the coloring, the hair, costume, and even the tattoo on the side of her head. This figure also comes with a customized base and if you look closely you can see She-Ra's golden wing tiara, making it look like Huntara has had her way with her. The figure scales perfectly with the MOTU Classics line (seen below) so head over to eBay and check out more photos of HKC's Custom MOTU Classics Huntara She-Ra figure.
Finally giving King Randor a Queen to have by his side, Hunter Knight Customs has created this beautiful Custom Masters of the Universe Classics Queen Marlena figure. Taking concepts from the MOTU 200x and vintage lines, HKC's figure combines the best of both worlds of He Man into one fantastic figure. The gown is simply exquisite and it is molded to look long and flowing with some very realistic fabric like behavior as it hits the ground.
The face is painted with a majestic look and the crown looks exactly like it did in the cartoon. The face looks like a much younger Marlena, like in the 200x series where it started the characters at a much in a earlier part of Eternia history. Now that I have the song, Three Marlena's by the Wallflowers stuck in my head, rush over to eBay to view more photo's of HKC's Custom Masters of the Universe Classics Queen Marlena figure!
Prahvus is a notable warlord on the planet Eternia following the rise of the Mystic Wall. He was known to had terrorised regions of the world in order to bring them under his dominion and Argenta-2008 has brought this character to life with his Custom MOTU Classics 200x Prahvus figure. This figure will fit right into your MOTU Classics or 200x line although the figure would blend better with the Classics line in my opinion. The sculpting of this figure captures the MOTU 200x version very well and this is a figure probably not slated for production in the near future.
My favorite part about this custom is the armor and the head sculpt. We need more MOTU Customs in this world as Mattel's release schedule is too slow for me. Argenta-2008 has other MOTU Classics customs up for sale this week so while you are checking out his Custom MOTU Classics 200x Prahvus figure, check out his others too!
Figures are meant to be posed and Monkey Samurai Designs has taken this statue and turned it into a fully articulated 6.5 inch Custom MOTU Classics Stinkor figure in Marvel Legends scale. One aspect I love about customizers is there ability to take a figure that is essentially a statue and dissect it and reconfigure it to make it an articulated figure that you can have fun with. In addition to adding poseability, the figure was given a much better paint app than the factory colors.
He Man faced the most interesting and unique foes in the land of Eternia and like any great cartoon that is selling a toy line, a new character would be introduced by simply just showing up out of the blue in an episode. Stinkor was different as he was first introduced as an action figure and never made it into the original He Man episodes from the 80's although he made his first cartoon debut in the 2002 series. Even in the early 80's, kids got a prelude of the magic of repainting and recycling older figures to make new characaters as Stinkor is a combination of a Mer-Man repaint, reused Mechanek armor, and a plastic blue shield that came packed with Castle Grayskull. Nonetheless, Stinkor is a cool figure and this Custom MOTU Classics Stinkor is a must have!
As Mattel is adding to the Masters of the Universe Classics line each month, so are talented customizers and Argenta-2008 has this very cool Custom MOTU Classics The Game Master custom to add to you collection. The characters in the Masters of the Universe cartoon were very creative and always trying to harness the power of Grayskull to overthrow He-Man but The Game Master was interested in other things. The Game Master is in it for the thrill of the hunt, like all of us who collect something. He is a a spacefaring gladiator called who lands on Eternia, intending to capture He-Man to make him fight for his amusement. Here is a comparison of The Game Master from the cartoon side-by-side with the figure dueling with Man At Arms:
Never happy with any version of He-Man throughout the years, mikeyel749954 decided to improve the MOTU Classics line with his Custom Masters of the Universe Classics He-Man figure. This figure looks more in line with the 200x line that came out in 2002, where the animation was more cutting edge and deviated from the classics 80's version of He-Man. Beheading a Neca Stacticon He-man figure, he achieved the look he was going for. The head blends great with the rest of the body and I like that the neck seems a bit more pronounced than other He-Man figures I have seen. Overall, I think this a great figure that gives a new and refreshed look to the 80's icon.
By the power of Grayskull! Narpa Sword channels the power of the Masters of the Universe with his Custom He Man and Battle Cat Marvel Universe scale figures. Having recently watched the 2002 He Man cartoons where the story begins before Prince Adam becomes He Man, it makes me really like the take on this figure. This figure looks like a very young He Man, which fits into the story much better than the character art for the cartoon and the figure. It seemed like when Prince Adam transformed into He Man, he got a little older. I love the detailing on this figure and Narpa Sword nailed the color of He Man's hair pretty well. It is also cool that the figure comes with a Castle Grayskull base and digital art for the total package.
Queen Veena, according to the 2002 Masters of the Universe series, was King Grayskull's wife and Hunter Knight Customs brings the "first Sorceress" to life with his Custom MOTU Classics Queen Veena figure. Having just recently watched all of the episodes from the 2002 Masters of the Universe cartoon, you get a sense of the history of the world of Eternia. This figure has many great aspects and fine details that should not go unmentioned. First, I love the mixing of the soft goods with the sash that is wrapped around her body. The wings on the figure look very realistic and the carvings on the shin plates and her knee armor is nicely done and adds a deeper dimension to the figure.
For those who want to know the history of King Grayskull, here is an experp from Wikipedia:
"In the 2002 remake of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, it is revealed that Castle Grayskull was once home to King Grayskull, an ancestor of Prince Adam & Princess Adora. He appears in the episode, "The Power of Grayskull", waging battle and ultimately defeating the Snake Men led by King Hiss but lost his sword in battle. He hoped it to be sign that it signified true peace for Eternia. However, Hiss' rival Hordak, who had defeated the Snake Men, was planning on conquering Eternia. Therefore, Grayskull went on a quest to find the power he needed to defend his kingdom. At the top of a mountain, he met the oracle who guided him on his quest, showing him his lost sword and explaining that his entire quest was to show his inner strength. Before leaving however, the Oracle informed him that he would not survive the battle. Despite knowing this, King Grayskull vowed to do whatever it took to save Eternia. He then returned to face Hordak. Though outnumbered, Grayskull managed to channel his mystical energies through his sword, turning Hordak's spell on himself and his army, sending them to the dark dimension called Despondos. Despite this victory however, the Oracle's prophecy came to pass, for Hordak, whose spirit was ripped from his body, managed to mortally wound Grayskull. As he lay dying, he proclaimed that his successor will wield his sword to defend Eternia. During his lifetime, King Grayskull ruled with wisdom and compassion."

Sometimes people can't wait for Mattel's release schedule so they take matters into their own hands. Op180 is picking up where Mattel has left off with his Custom Masters of the Universe Classics Stinkor figure. Repurposing a MOTU Classics Mer-Man figure, Stinkor retains his 1980's look and feel while fitting in with the current MOTU Classics line Mattel is currently producing. There was one aspect of Stinkor that Op180 has improved and that is he "didnt get round to soaking him in patchouli to give the old school figure smell" which I totally appreciate because the Stinkor smell is one that permeates everything! Here is another angle of the figure where you can see his face and the excellent use of the Mer-Man figure:
The Horde were the lead villains in the She Ra Princess of Power series from the 80's and they also made an appearance in the 2002 Masters of the Universe series that spanned only two seasons (like the original). Hordak waged his war against Eternia and the city of Eternos with his legion of Horde Troopers and Hunter Knight Customs has treat in store for MOTU Classics collectors with his Custom MOTU Classics Horde Trooper figure. The figure is in scale with the MOTU Classics line and with the upcoming Grizzlor release, this figure makes a perfect companion to the already released Hordak figure. Hunter Knight retains the classic nature of the Horde Trooper with the gray coloring and chest plate with the Horde symbol on it.

I am a huge fan of the MOTU Classics and vintage He-Man toy lines and I was very excited to come accross FrogDNA's Custom Masters of the Universe Cartoon Style Skeletor figure. I am also a fan of the cartoon and own all of the original He-Man episodes from the 80's and I have always wondered when someone was going to do Skeletor justice and FrogDNA has definitely delivered. Take a look at the side by side comparison of the FrogDNA's version (left), the 80's cartoon (middle), and Mattel's version (right) and see for yourself:
You can see that FrogDNA has really captured the Lord of Destruction's likeness from the 80's. Not only does he have the head right but he got the color right as well. Very nicely executed and if you would like to add this to your MOTU Classics collection, head over to eBay and check out this awesome Custom Masters of the Universe Cartoon Style Skeletor figure.
I am a huge fan of the Masters of the Universe classics line. Mattel really has done this line right so I am happy to see some customs coming out of this line. It is really hard to improve upon these figures but this Custom Masters of the Universe Classics Battle Damaged Faker gives fans a look at what Faker (the electric blue He Man that is supposed to look like the real He Man and 'fake' the people of Eternia out) after he has come back from battle. I would have loved to see more battle damage on this figure but the head gives you a glimpse at the mechanics underneath the smurfy blue skin. Skynet has nothing on this guy!
