Samurai is the term for the military nobility of pre-industrial Japan. Sporting a suit based on traditional samurai armor, Shinobitron brings to life one of Wolverine's oldest enemies with his Custom Marvel Legends Silver Samurai figure. One of the aspects that immediately stood out on this figure was the intricate detail that was paid to the armor. You almost get lost in the detail as the armor is very mesmerizing. My favorite parts of the figure are the shoulder and leg armor. The protruding spikes on the legs and shoulders gives the figure a menacing look while the realistic facial features complete the overall feeling of a soldier waiting to strike its prey. To get a closer look at the amazing detail of this Custom Marvel Legends Silver Samurai figure, head over to eBay and check out Shinobitron's masterpiece!
Baraka is one mean SOB and mjb3777 has captured the cold, brutal looking features of this classic Mortal Kombat character with his Custom Marvel Legends scale Mortal Kombat 9 Baraka figure. There are a couple aspects of this figure that are outstanding. First, the blades protruding from the forearms slice seamlessly from the the flesh and integrate nicely into the bone. Second, the facial expression of anger and shear malcontent really comes through with the way the eyes, mouth, and teeth were sculpted and painted. The costume design is simple yet very effective, capturing the video game styling of this classic character. This Custom Mortal Kombat Baraka figure is 12th in mjb3777's series of MK figures so if you are collecting them all, this one is not to be passed up!
Bringing to life one of Batman's foes is MadTinker76's Custom Marvel Legends Bane figure! Ooooozing with detail (and toxic waste), the figure looks like it was plucked right from the Arkham Asylum video game. The detail is stunning on this figure. My favorite aspect of this figure is the way the toxic chemicals appear to be flowing from his body and running through his veins. The toxic waste weapons and storage armor are the highlight of the figure from a functional perspective and the way the face was painted and sculpted makes Bane come alive and look like he is seething with anger and vengeance. The shading and detail applied to the figure give it a 3D feel to round out this Marvel Legends scale figure.
From Custom Transformers to Marvel Legends figures, Shinobitron is one of those customizers that excels in what ever he puts his hands on and his Custom Marvel Legends Black Panther X-Men figure is no exception. Putting his own militaristic twist on this figure, the cat like figure possesses many feline characteristics. I really love the head of the figure as it was well done and I really like the way the snout was crafted. If you take a closer look at the hands, they are very lifelike and have the ability hold daggers between the fingers. In addition to getting this amazing figure, Shinobitron created a pleathora of accessories like extra unmasked head with cowl, his tribal necklace, an ornamental spear, and 3 vibranium daggers which attach to his belt via pegs. The unmasked head is pretty cool but you will have to make the jump over to view Shinobitron's Custom Marvel Legends Black Panther X-Men figure to see it!
Only less than 9 hours left to nab this amazing Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Kitana figure! Fashioned after her appearence in the Mortal Kombat 9 video game, this figure is highly detailed and recreates her representation from the game very nicely. The costume design is fantastic and captures the detailing on the boots and forearm really well with the graphic design. The fan design looks like it is straight out of the game and fits nicely in the hands, which where designed to hold the weapon in each hand. The head sculpt is very lifelike and the eyes give a lot of personality to the figure. The long flowing hair also looks real the way it was crafted and the flowing loin cloth adds to the realism. There are more photos to view over at mjb3777's auction page so head over to eBay and bid on his Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Kitana figure!
Foe of Thor and Thunderstrike, Bloodaxe is a force to be reckon with and Loosecollector has transformed the comic into a living breathing plastic with his Custom Marvel Legends Bloodaxe figure. This highly detailed figure demonstrates Loosecollector's talent in so many ways. The sculpting and craftsmanship on this figure give it depth and the the black really stands out due to the way the clothing was fashioned. The rippling effect on the body make it look like the figure is going to jump through the screen and get you! The sculpting of the axe and skull knee armor make the accessories look like they are real metal. Giving the figure that worn and battle hardened look is a superb weathering and cracking job. If you want to add a one of a kind figure that will fit with your Marvel Legends collection, check out Loosecollector's Custom Marvel Legends Bloodaxe figure.
Gearing up for the July 22nd release of Captain America on the silver screen comes Raybot Customs with his Custom Marvel Legends Captain America figure. Given the intense gaze and stare of the figure can mean that this figure means business and he is out to prove it. The lower body and the upper body contrast each other very well and I like the way the red, white and blue costume bleeds into into the black matte finish. Here is some more information about this great figure from Raybot himself:
"Bucky was revived as the Winter Soldier, and after Steve Roger's death he took on the mantle of Captain America! Now leading the main Avengers team, James Buchanan Barnes fights alongside Thor and Iron Man. He uses his indestructible shield, bionic arm, special pistol and expert fighting skills to defend the world in Fear Itself. This custom's built tough so you won't have to worry how you handle it, and he features a slick metallic paintjob, factory-styled oversprays, a working holster, as well as a shield, pistol, and machine gun."

From dreadlocked head to pointy toes, Izzy Black has made this comic book character come to life with this Custom Marvel Legends Shathra figure. The iridescent blue really stands out against the black figure and looks exactly like the comic version. This blue is also carried through the wings, which gives the figure a glowing appearance. Although the comic art shows the hair in more of a crazy mess on the head, Izzy Black's version almost looks likes a cross between the Predator and Alien with its elongated skull and dreads. Overall, I really love the concept and it is great to see new characters being created!
Raybot Customs is really great at capturing the human aspects of figures and his Custom Marvel Legends Emma Frost is a great example of how an action figure can possess realism. There are a couple aspects of this figure that made me think this way. First, the legs are well done from the boots all the way up her thighs. Giving the boots a more wrinkled and worn appearance makes it look like the figure has been walking in them for a really long time and adding the slight definition to the thighs gives them that realistic muscle tone. The eyes and facial expression complete the figures persona and the addition of the cape gives the figure much more poseability and display capability. A subtle aspect of the wrist articulation and the severe bends in the joints give her a very feminine appeal.
rluxcustom's has created this massive Custom Marvel Legends X-MEN Colossus statue, which is a real work of art. I really like the way this figure was sculpted and the lines give the figure definition and dimension. The expression on the figures face is one of anger and destruction. Standing at 18" tall, this statue possesses a lot of feeling and personality. The base of the statue goes really well with the overall look and feel of the statue and makes it look like the ground is crumbling beneath the feet. The yellow and reds are very vibrant but, at the same time, are muted by the nice weathering detail, which rounds out this excellent figure.
The amazing husband and wife team of K&L Custom brings us these dynamic Cloak and Dagger Custom Marvel Legends figure in their signature style that only they can achieve. Cloak and Dagger first appeared in the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 from 1982 but the duo's future was a bit tenuous with spin off comics never gaining any traction but thanks to customizers like K&L, the Cloak and Dagger couple lives on as amazing action figures. One of K&L's strengths is creating lifelike action figures with lots of personality. The facial expression on Cloak's face is priceless and the way the face was sculpted with the raised brows and wrinkles between the eyes gives the figure a menacing feel. The hair sculpt on Dagger is awesome and I love the way the layers flow. If you want to see more great photos of K&L's latest Cloak and Dagger Custom Marvel Legends figures, head over to eBay!
Continuing with his Steampunk line of figures, Jin Saotome has immortalized the God of Thunder with his Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Thor figure. It is cool to imagine the classic Marvel characters in an age of steam, metal and bronze. The shading of the figure brings out all of the amazing detail, such as the muscles, rivets, head gear. The voltage containment units on his back give the figure a very cool effect and the larger pointed bronze pieces protruding from the knees and biceps add dimension. Metal gears, chains, reflective optics, and magnetics round out this awesome Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Thor figure so head over to eBay because there is less than a day left to snag this one and add it to your Marvel Legends or Steampunk collection.
Being able to absorb the properties of anything touched is a pretty cool ability and PriceSmashers has epitomized this comic character with his Custom Marvel Legends Absorbing Man figure. The texturing on this figure was really well done. I especially like the bleeding of the textures from one section of the body to another, which gives the illusion of the absorption of material. For example, the gray on the left side of the body bleeds over to right side and the brick on the left leg is also carried over to the right leg. The texturing also brings out the flesh tones and the striations of the muscles.
Anthony's Customs is well known for his attention to detail and the plethora of accessories he creates to give each figure a unique style. Maximizing the display capability of his Custom Marvel Legends Deadpool figure, he literally created an arsenal of weapons for this Deadpool figure to mess around with. Check out the battery of weapons Anthony has provided, which are included with the figure:
As for the figure, it is executed nicely with a black weathering and accents that accentuate the figures muscles and overall look. With the shear amount of weapons that this Deadpool figure can adorn, you must click over to check Anthony's Custom Marvel Legends Deadpool Armory Edition figure.
Fueled by the combustion chamber in the chest, Pack Rat Studios' Custom Steampunk Iron Man figure is the epitome of the age where steam and fire drive mechanical parts. The rivets and welding beads along with the copper exterior really give this figure the classic Steampunk look. The grill on the front of the figure looks like it was forged from an old stove or perhaps a coal powered train engine, which has a very cool light up effect inside. The smoke stacks on the shoulders look like they have been belching black smoke as the Iron Man suit clunks its way to freedom. The details on this figure are too numerous to mention but take a look riveting and armor work that was done on the hands and feet:
Pack Rat Studios' Custom Steampunk Iron Man figure is the perfect example how a modern day figure can be transformed back in time to a simpler era and you should head over to eBay to view more photos or place a bid!
Raynir has done an excellent job taking 2D concept art from the comics and transforming it into a figure that will fit right in with your collection with his Custom Marvel Legends Aurora figure. The costume design mirrors the comic version with a slight variation in the boots and cufs, which is a welcome change in my opinion. As you can see in the comparison below, there is too much yellow in the comic version and the gold boots and cuff helps to subdue the canary yellow (see below). I love it when customizers do what is right and not just copy what they see!
The head sculpt is really great looking and you can even see the curl of the hair replicated. To see more photos of Raynir's Custom Marvel Legends Aurora figure, head over to eBay!
The Bi-Beast is an android with two heads (one atop the other - the top skull is given knowledge of warfare while the bottom skull was given a knowledge of culture) and Lokoboys has brought this creature from the pages of the comics with their Custom Marvel Legends Bi-Beast figure. Fashioned in the likes of his appearance in the Incredible Hulk video game, the figure features a killer sculpt with very deep, rich colors that accentuate the parts of the figure. The metal parts of the figure look very worn, weathered, and realistic. The head sculpt is achieved by the melding of a crazed head on top of a more down to earth yet serious head. It is cool when figures from video games are brought to life with interpretation from talented customizers like Lokoboys so head over to eBay and check out more photos of this Custom Marvel Legends Bi-Beast figure.
K&L Customs really excels at making beautiful figures and their latest Custom Marvel Legends Goblin Queen is no exception. From head to toe, this figure that is seen in the comics. I would like to point out the finer details of this custom that deserve note. It is attention to the smaller details that make a custom stand out among the rest. The shoe design, in particular, was sculpted to look like a modern woman's boot, which adds to the realism of the figure. The hands also have striations and muscle tone to them. The hair is finely sculpted to give it a slight wind blown look and the cape is tattered and frayed, adding to the overall essence of the costume design. Overall, this is a fantastic figure that would fit well with your Marvel Legends collection so head over to eBay and check out more photos of K&L's Custom Marvel Legends Goblin Queen.
Iteration is the cornerstone to improvement and Anthony's Customs has done just this with his latest Custom Marvel Legends Gambit v2 figure. Back in February, he created his first iteration of Gambit and if you remember the article I wrote about it back then, I was impressed with not only the figure as a whole but also the accessories that come with the figure. With this latest version of Gambit, Anthony has included two head sculpts that feature a long hair and a short hair version. Both head sculpts are very well executed and I am personally a fan of the long hair version. The facial features and hair look very lifelike and the flaming cards adds a great feature to the overall look of the figure.
There are certain details that catch my and today I wanted to focus on Raybot's Custom Marvel Legends Jubilee figure. First, the colors really pop on this figure and stay true to how the figure appears in the comic. Second, the application of the paint is done in such a way that is accentuates certain parts of the figure. For example, the jean shorts look like real denim the way the paint was weathered or washed on the shorts. The pink glasses set the hair off, adding to the realism to the figure. The hair sculpt adds to the depth of the figure and the face looks very angelic. To view more photos of Raybot's Custom Marvel Legends Jubilee figure, head over to eBay!
Don't let your eyes deceive you or think that these are Photoshop effects but CollectableToyz305 has created this Custom Ghost Rider Marvel Legends figure with real flame action. I actually liked the Ghost Rider movie so I am happy to see a cool rendition of Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcyclist who morphs into the demon vigilante. One of my favorite parts of this custom are the wheels that actually look like they are on fire. The way that they were sculpted look like they are flaming down the streets with chunks of rubber flying off the wheels. The Johnny Blaze figure is pretty cool too and check out the light up flaming skull and eyes!
Taking concept art from comics and translating this into a well executed figure takes some imagination and skill, which Toyphilia has done with his latest Custom Marvel Legends Rock of the Buddha figure. The rocky substance on the body was very well done as well as the overall look of the figure. According to Comicvine, they describe this character as "A member of the Black Dragon Death Squad, Rock of the Buddha was the martial arts team's analog to The Thing. He had half his body comprised of a rocky substance as well as spikes jutting from his spinal column." Toyphilia's shading of the figure gives it depth and makes each detail stand out, accentuating the veins, muscles, and flab (The Rock of the Buddha could stand to go on a diet). There is less than a day left to place a bid on this amazing figure so head over to eBay and check out this Custom Marvel Legends Rock of the Buddha figure.
Creating the Mighty Thor in the the last outfit the worn "before he destroyed the Asgard and the Cycle of Ragnarok," Wylun Customs brings us this flawlessly executed Custom Marvel Legends Rune Thor figure. From the scalloped armor, deep royal blue and gold paint apps, and the broken hammer, this figure looks like it was ripped from the pages of the comics. I really like when customizers share the ingredients of what went into their creations and Wylun Customs was nice enough to shoot me an email with the run down so here it is (I especially like the last one!):
- Head ML Adam Warlock
- Upper Torso DC deathstrike
- Lower Torso DC Booster Gold
- Couple kibble from random stuff..
The paint apps look especially smooth and rich as they shine from the figure. A great choice in parts combined with the skill of bringing it all together makes Wylun's Custom Marvel Legends Rune Thor figure something you would wan to add to your collection!
Unique concepts are what customizers stand out above and beyond your average toy company. Claw Carved Customs is a great example of blending a one of kind idea with excellent execution with his Custom Marvel Legends Deadpool Mech figure. Combing the worlds if Iron Man and Deadpool, the mech suit fits a smaller scale Deadpool figure inside the suit, just like Tony Stark! Claw Carved Customs provided much detail about this thought process for this figure so let's read more about the concept behind the creation:
"With all of the heroes out there in robot suits, deadpool thought it would be a good idea to join the crowd! Made from parts of the iron monger and stolen prototype parts from starks suits deadpool was able to build his very own mecha! Ok now lets be realistic This figure took WEEKS of constant work and troubleshooting but as you can see it was all worth it! I hollowed out and "iron monger opening cockpit figure" and gave him a huge drastic makeover with all the nice weathering battle wear and weapons you could ever want with a figure! There is a removable helmet, articulated claws and yes the "dead missile" can be shot out of his weapon. I even gave the marvel universe deadpool a more classic look and repainted his belt with a leather color, gave him his classic leather straps, leather katana holders, a custom pilot vest and the best part is that you can detach his katana holder oh and the katana's have been sharpened!"
You can see how the Deadpool figure scales with the mech suit in the photo below:
Continuing his classic era figures comes Jin Saotome's latest Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Dr. Doom figure. The way the armor was crafted and painted in bronze, gold, brass, and copper effects makes the figure look more like royalty, especially when it is holding a goblet in his hand. If you think about it, this is the perfect figure to do in Steampunk style due to the fact that his suit is made entirely of armor, which gives a lot of latitude in how this figure could be conceived and executed. My favorite part of this figure is the leg armor as I can picture Dr. Doom clunking around as the gears turn and the knee joints bend. The weathering of the figure makes it look like it is from the era. To view more photos of Jin's Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Dr. Doom figure, head over to eBay!
DBO Customs has created this amazing Custom Marvel Legends Weapon X with Adamantium Tank. Taking the Marvel Legends scale figure to the next level by designing display tank puts this custom on another level. The figure features real metal claws and the tank was made using thick, durable glass, real metal and both Aves and Sculpy. The tank scales very nicely with the figure and the way the hair was designed, it works both in and out of the tank. When the figure is placed in the tank, the hair looks like it is flowing in liquid and out of the tank the figure takes on a crazed look. The face is full of emotion and rage, which gets hidden when the mask is put on the figure when it is in the tank. This figure is a perfect example of how taking concept art from a comic can turn into a living, breathing figure that is nicely executed. Take a look at more photos of DBO's Custom Marvel Legends Weapon X with Adamantium Tank over at eBay!
Anthony's Customs threw everything (and the kitchen sink) into his Custom Marvel Legends Gambit figure. As far as the figure is concerned, my favorite parts are the way the trench and the hair are sculpted. The hair looks very realistic as well as the trench coat with its flowing look of clothing. He also did not miss a beat when thinking about this figure and the different poses and styles you could display this figure. In addition to creating a very accurate Gambit figure, he included 7 interchangeable hands, a short real steel staff, a long real steel staff, 2 sets of two cards, 2 single cards, a charged card accessory, and a large base. I really like that Anthony has the foresight to create the much needed accessories to truly go above and beyond the call of the duty. One of my favorite accessories for this figure are the 'charged energy cards' (shown below).
To view more photos and to place a bid on Anthony's Custom Marvel Legends Gambit figure, head over to eBay!
"Hulk Smash!" or "Hulk fix your toilet?" Jin Saotome never ceases to amaze me with his creativity and this week his Custom Steampunk Incredible Hulk figure caught my eye for several reasons. For one thing, I thought how could you turn a Hulk figure into a Steampunk era figure when typically the Hulk just uses his shear strength and power to overcome his foes? First of all, the Hulk was given a very cool pair of clockwork gauntlets that protect his precious hands in battle. The grime and gritty feel of the figure makes it look like Hulk could moonlight in a coal mine if he is not saving the world! There are less than 12 hours left to grab Jin's Custom Steampunk Incredible Hulk figure so head over to eBay and place your bid!
Hunter Knight Customs (HKC), along with making killer Masters of the Universe customs, focuses his skills and talents on this gorgeous Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Kitana figure. Taking the best aspects from her appearances in Mortal Kombat3, Shaolin Monks, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC, HKC has done a tremendous job translating video game art into a lifelike plastic sculpture. What struck me about this custom was that when I viewed it for the first time, I could not tell if this was a person in costume or an action figure.
I really thought my mind was playing tricks on me as the face of the figure looks very human. The eyes of the figure look full of life and the hair is molded in a way that looks flowing. Although half the face is hidden by the mask, the duvets in between the eyes gives the appearance that the figure is looking into the distance, perhaps plotting her next move against her opponent. HKC also makes pretty cool videos so check out his Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Kitana figure and view his video after you make the jump!
With their first figure in 2011, Boskoes Toys is coming out swinging with their Custom Marvel Legends Stryfe figure. The team over at Boskoes Toys are excellent at translating comic and art into plastic and this figure is an excellent example of how talented their designers and sculptors can be. The paint app style and shaping techniques makes the plastic on the figure look like metal. The addition of blue accents on the figure on the thighs and chest really break up the silver tone of the figure and give it a unique look. The mask is more streamlined than the comic art but that is a welcome addition as it takes a lot of the weight out of the face. Round the figure out with the protruding spikes on the thighs and shoulders and you have one heck of a Custom Marvel Legends Stryfe figure!
Bringing the hammer down, Mercury Art Studios brings this highly detailed Thunderstrike Thor Custom Marvel Legends figure. Not only does this figure look like the art from the comic books, the face has some definite attitude.
I really love how the face was sculpted to give Thunderstrike a very menacing and nasty look to him. This look is achieved by giving the face some divots between the eyebrows and drawing one the eyes off kilter. Furrowing the cheek bones and creating a stiff upper lip completes the look of the face. To view more photos, head over to eBay to view Mercury Art Studios' Thunderstrike Thor Custom Marvel Legends figure.
Described as the spy turned super-powered soldier, foe to Captain America and The Invaders, Wanderer-X brings us this Custom Marvel Legends Warrior Woman figure. What I like about this figure is the attention to detail on the face. The way the eyes and eye brows were drawn makes the figure come alive with a mysterious and sinister look on her face. The face also has a persona of someone that means business! The outfit also looks like it was pulled right from the comic from the choker around her neck right down to the thigh high boots. To check out more photos of Wanderer-X's Custom Marvel Legends Warrior Woman figure, head on over to eBay!
D&D Customs has set out to create every GI Joe figure in Marvel Legends scale from years 1982 to 1988, which are really the best years for the Joe and Cobra lines. I am focusing on this Custom Marvel Legends Dusty figure today but D&D has made a countless number of other figures. Dusty was one of my favorite figures to play with as a kid and D&D has done a superb job, along with all of his other customs, in recreating that 3 3/4" classic GI Joe feel in Marvel Legends scale.
You can really see the fine detailing in a close up shot. From the classic desert camouflage to the stitching in his uniform, it looks like no detail was left untouched. The helmet and weapons tie the figure together and make D&D's Custom Marvel Legends Dusty figure very sought after if you are looking to own larger scale classic GI Joe figures. D&D is one of the best at creating this line of figures so if you don't want to lose out on this, head over to eBay and buy it now!
Modeled after Jim Lee's art style, Loose Collector has created a magnificent Custom Marvel Legends Gambit figure. The facial features and hair really give this figure a human look. As a mutant, Gambit possesses the ability to manipulate kinetic energy, as well as a hypnotic charm. He is also skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff, which Loose Collector proudly displays. The trench coat is also well done as the plastic looks flowing and lifelike. If you compare this to the Toybiz version of Gambit, Loose Collector's figure wins hands down:
Shredder is the primary bad guy in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe and jps997 has created this villain from the Secret of the Ooze movie with his Custom Marvel Legends TMNT Super Shredder figure. The back story on this figure from the movie is that after Shredder exposed himself to a mutagen vial, he is transformed into a massive "Super Shredder," an almost mindless giant-mutant being with immense superhuman strength.
I love the armor detail on this figure! The helmet is super detailed and intricate and I was pleasantly surprised to see the design on the back of the helmet. The helmet is also very proportional and is a great fit for the figure. The plastic looks like metal and the way that the body was painted gives the figure depth. Overall, I am very impressed with the attention to detail that jps9779 took with this figure as he did an excellent job translating the movie into art! To view more photos of this Custom Marvel Legends TMNT Super Shredder figure, head over to eBay!
By now you have probably figured out that I dig the Steampunk line of customs and Jin Saotome is continuing to feed my obsession with his Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk War Machine figure. You can imagine this War Machine figure, as Jin states, "ratcheting and clanking through the battlefield" when you look at the intricate clockwork detail in this custom. If I ever imagined what a Steampunk War Machine figure would look like, this would be it! I love the arching electricity coming across the power lines and the riveting of the metal suit, which creates the illusion of the figure being in the time period where electricity was new and the industrial revolution was on its way!
There is so much old school detail in this figure that if you do not look closely you will miss it. For example, you can see the gears poking out from under the chest armor and the riveting work inside the figures shoulder area. It would be cool if this gears turned and the figure electrically arched but I will take this figure any day! To see more photos of this one of a kind Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk War Machine figure, head over to eBay!
You can really feel the pain and emotion in Raynir's Custom Marvel Legends Goliath figure. The face on this figure was sculpted very well, especially the nose and cheek bone area. Typically the noses on figures look more like a cartoon and the facial structure of this figure look more human. The eyes are also a great feature and Raynir thought to put bags under his eyes, which is how the face responds to squinting or anger. Last but not least, the veins protruding from the neck add to the emotion and feeling of this large scale figure. To see more photos, head over to eBay and check out Raynir's Custom Marvel Legends Goliath figure.
Jin Saotome is continuing his Steampunk line with this amazing Captain America Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk figure. There are subtle details in this figure that bring out that old world style. For example, the letter A on Captain Americas forehead is done with a style reminiscent of the 1900's and the rivets on the front of the figure remind me of an old style military uniform. Saving the best piece for last is the magnetic clockwork shield, which I believe is the central feature of this custom. The detail in the gears and mechanisms of this shield are superbly executed and there are blades that can attach in any way you please.
I have now come to realize that wasting countless hours and quarters playing Mortal Kombat at the local bowling alley was well worth it when I see figures like Anthony's Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Scorpion figure. The entire costume design of the figure is outstanding. Scorpion has a skull as a belt but Anthony has taken it to the next level and has embellished the belt in a way that it incorporates the skull design all the way around, which is a very subtle but effective touch to the figure. The figure gets some more added touches, with the addition of the silver spear and a black spear that attach to the figures left hand.
Looking at the photo above, you probably would not guess that Collectabletoyz305's Custom Marvel Legends Phalanx figure stands a massive 12" tall (I guess you could of gathered that from the title of this article so work with me here). This figure, for being all black, is highly detailed and the sculpting brings out the features of the this figure very well. Sometimes when figures are painted one solid color, you lose some of the detail but not this figure. The head was completely sculpted from scratch and there are no Photoshop effects for this custom as Collectabletoyz305 added LEDs in the head and a small switch in the back so you can easily operate them.
According to the Marvel Wiki, "The Phalanx are an evil alien race bent on world conquering. They once tried to invade Earth but were eventually opposed by the X-Men. They were later seen trying to destroy Shi'Ar airspace and badly damaged the civilization, but they were once again opposed, this time by a space-travelling X-Men team. Afterward, the Phalanx weren't heard of for quite some time, until after the Annihilation wave struck the entire galaxy. The Phalanx tried to begin where Annihilus left off, and are soaring through space once again, opposing several heroes in their path, and chose Avengers villain Ultron as their leader.
As Collectabletoyz305 writes: "He is an extraterrestrial, sentient form of "techno-organic" life, resembling machinery in various ways. Because of their ability to absorb energy and mass from living beings, a process which also converts the victims into techno-organic material, the Technarchy have a special safeguard in encoded in the techno-organic virus that they can transmit. If too much techno-organic material remains alive or otherwise becomes corrupted, it forms a collective intelligence and physical mass known as the Phalanx. In fact, the Phalanx' primary objective is to culminate in the creation of a Babel Spire that can send a signal to the Technarchy homeworld, telling the Technarchy that the techno-organic virus has unsafely overrun the planet and must be destroyed before it risks contaminating other sources of "food."
Collectabletoyz305's Custom Marvel Legends Phalanx figure is up for sale this week so head over to eBay and check out the photos or place a bid!
Updating one of the classic X-MEN characters, Horton's Heroes presents their Custom Marvel Legends Wolverine X-MEN figure. For being an action figure, this version of Wolverine possesses unique style and personality, which is a credit to Horton's Heroe's ability to paint and sculpt emotion and feeling into his work. In both the masked and unmasked versions of the head sculpts, the expression on Wolverine's face can be interpreted in a few ways. Add real metal claws and a killer paint app to the costume and you have one awesome Wolverine figure.
Jin Saotome is a master of originality, which brings me to his latest Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Deadpool figure. Never seen before in any comic or video game, this version of Deadpool is a one of a kind! According to Wikipedia, Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc.
The Steampunk style is evident in not only the costume design of Deadpool but also the weapons, which are my favorite parts of this figure. The weapons look like they were scrapped together using parts from a factory. Here is more about this great figure from Jin himelf:
"Complete with new headsculpt, Wade has been hand-painted from head to boot with deep shading, superb color blending, weathered highlights, brilliant metallics, and intricate detail which will really make him stand out in your Marvel Legends collection. He features hand-sculpted detail using Aves Apoxie Sculpt, the most durable 2-part modeling compound out there. Deadpool comes with two Steampunk inspired weapons he can hold in either hand and the ray gun plug into his beltpack. His sword is sheathed on his back and can be drawn to defend himself against whatever mechanical creations Dr. Doom has unleashed."
Jin more has pictures posted on his auction page so head over and check out his Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Deadpool figure.
Basing his figure on the Bowen Style Bust, op180 created this Custom Marvel Legends Scale Deadpool figure. With two interchangeable heads, you can make him Deadpool, the disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary or Wade Wilson, the poster child for Oxy pads or Stridex. In all seriousness, op180 did an excellent job translating the bust into a 6" tall, articulated figure. The costume detailing matches the bust exactly, even down to Deadpool's squinty right eye. Here is a side by side comparison of the bust and the figure:
As you can see, op180 has done a great job detailing Wade Wilson's complexion and I like the way he scaled the face to match the body of the figure. In the figure, the face is much narrower than the bust, which goes great with the Marvel Legends scale.
"Bringing art and fantasy to your collection" is the tag line for Mercury Art Studies, creators of this amazing Custom Marvel Legends Destroyer figure. Bringing the concept from the comics to life, Mercury Art Studios has executed and amazing figure. The plastic actually looks like a metal armor suit and the figure was created with metal spikes, which are affixed to the arms, shoulders and boots, giving the figure a very menacing look. The Destroyer has a very medieval look to it, a judging from the protruding spikes coming from its armor, I would not want to run into this in a dark alley.
The story of The Destroyer is an interesting one since it is not a living entity it absorbs the life essence of anyone. It is not a suit of armor that can be physically worn or disassembled and a life force must be projected into the armor in order to animate it, leaving the possessor’s body in a catatonic state.
I love the way the face armor was made, which is very symmetrical and gives a nice depth to the figure. The real metal spikes protruding from the boots are pretty cool too, which Mercury Art Studios warns are very sharp! Here is a photo showing the scale of the figure with his arch enemy, Thor:
K&L is a very accomplished customizer and is published in Toyfare magazine. I must say that K&L customs has their way with the ladies and their Custom Marvel Legends X-MEN Emma Frost is another great example. They make the most beautiful customs of the female nature, which is one of their specialties. In addition to creating accurate figures based on the Marvel Comics, K&L has the ability to make their figures come to life with the way that the faces and eyes are painted. The way the eyes and the eye brows are painted gives the figure a very distinct look. The hair looks natural and flowing, paying a nice homage to the this mutant telepath. Here is a close up of her face:
According to the Marvel Wiki, Black Goliath's history began as Dr. Foster, a director of one of the nation's most prestigious research labs. The research he conducted gave him the power to instantaneously grow to a height of 15 feet, with the strength of a giant. Steveid brings this gargantuan to life in Marvel Legends 12" scale with his Custom Black Goliath figure. Not only did he do an excellent job translating the comic art into a great looking figure but he also scaled the figure to a foot tall. The costume design looks just like the comic and the skin tones and face paint look amazing. There are only 10 hours left to nab this so head over to eBay and check out Steveid's Custom Marvel Legends 12" Black Goliath figure.
The one thing I love about customs is that no two customizers make the exact same figure in the same way. This week, Anthony's Customs has a Custom Mortal Kombat Reptile figure, which is a very well designed and executed figure but I am not sure if I am familiar with this version of Reptile or if Anthony has made his own take on the figure. The jury is out but nonetheless, the costume design is very well sculpted and artistically done. My favorite parts of this figure are the dragons that painted on the shoulders and the belt design. Here is a close up:
The shin and boot armor are also very well executed! To see more photos or to place a bid on this Custom Mortal Kombat Reptile figure, head over to eBay!
I don't if I should call this a figure or a work of art but Speedlees has definitely achieved something monumental with his Black Knight Spawn Marvel Legends Custom figure. I had to do a double take when I read that this figure is 100% hand sculpted because the figure is so intricately detailed. The shoulder and leg armor are my favorite parts of this figure as the skulls look they are screaming out of the figure. There is so much dimension to this figure that it would need to studied up close to really see all of the detail but from a far, you can really see Speedlees artistic prowess and technique shine through.
Speedlees has made a video and you get to see this Black Knight Spawn Marvel Legends Custom figure in some of the early stages of development:embedded by Embedded Video
Even the weapons and sword are intricately detailed to match the overall look and feel of the figure. Speedlees has taken many more photos over at his auction page so head over to eBay and check out his Black Knight Spawn Marvel Legends Custom figure.
Straight from Mortal Kombat 2 comes Jinzin's Custom Mortal Kombat Reptile Marvel Legends scale figure. Although the costume design is reminiscent of MK2, this figure appears to be an amalgamation of Reptile through the MK years. The scales on the arms give it a very authentic look and I especially like how the scales permeate through the fingers. I don't know if this was done on purpose but the knee armor look like snake heads. The gold accents outline the figure nicely and set off the armor and detailing. The profile view of the figure shows off the facial details and more of the scaling that was done to achieve a very snake like look. As you can see in the photo below, the face is sculpted to give the figure a serpentine twist to compliment the beady little eyes.
