As naive Corporal Upham said "What's FUBAR" in the movie Saving Private Ryan, the Custom 2nd Ranger Company Omaha Beach Figures are far from FUBAR! In all my years of writing about customs, I have never seen a collection like this up for sale. D-Day, June 6th, 1944, is one of the most important dates in history and one of my favorite historical subjects to study so I am happy to see customizers paying homage to the fallen soldiers who were responsible for freeing Europe and keeping this country safe! This collection features Captain John Miller , Technical Sergeant Mike Horvath , Private First Class Richard Reiben , PFC Jackson , PFC Mellish , PFC Adrian Caparzo , Technician 4th Class Irwin Wade , Technician 5th Class Timothy Upham 29th Infantry Division and James Francis Ryan of the 101st Airborne Division , 506th B Company. The heads for the figures looks like they were carefully selected as they have an uncanny resemblance to the on screen actors from the movie. For some close up shots, head over to eBay and take a closer look at RicardoManzoArt's Custom 2nd Ranger Company Omaha Beach Figures.
Combing the best of the animated world and continuing the Transformers story line, the Prime series continues to pump out great canvases for customizers. I have to tip my hat to Hasbro for making the Soundwave's alternate form a Drone as this is perfect mesh of today's technology while still keeping the original concept of Soundwave true. I am also tipping my hat to Jicco's Customs with his repainted and redesigned Custom Transformers Prime Soundwave figure. The smallest aspects of the custom can really change the look and feel of the figure. One of my favorite parts of this custom is the wave that is running across the face of the figure. That small jagged lime green line adds a ton of personality and brings the figure to life. I also really like the paint app technique as it gives the figure depth and makes it more interesting. To see more photos, head over to eBay and check out Jicco's Custom Transformers Prime Soundwave figure.
Twenty fifth in the line up, Bischoff Inc's Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Shang Tsung figure is a testament to his skill and dedication recreating the Mortal Kombat figure in living color! This customizer has the uncanny ability to recreate the on screen characters from the game in exquisite detail. From the colors to the costume, no aspect is left untouched and he has even gone as far as to build in the scalloped look to Shang Tsung's outfit. I hope Bischoff does not stop at this one and continues to make killer MK9 customs! If you have an idea for the next figure, post a comment here or on my AFC Facebook page!
One of the pivotal scenes in the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movie was the epic battle in the forest between the forces of good and evil! Megatron and Optimus Prime were engaged in a fierce entanglement and Encline Designs has captured the moment where the great leader of the Autobots lost his spark with his Custom Leader Class Megatron and Optimus Prime diorama. Encline Designs is at the top of my list as one of the best customizers out there and his diorama really captures the somber mood and climax of Optimus Prime as he clings to life's last moments before he goes dark. It looks like this dio might have been a commission piece that someone is selling so lucky for you!
I have seen some pretty cool mashups in my lifetime but sometimes customizers surprise me and think of unique combinations of figures and his Custom Deadpool Madalorian Star Wars Marvel blends the worlds of Marvel and Star Wars like you have never seen them before. Using two very popular figure concepts, the Deadpool figure comes through loud and clear in the color palette and the design of the helmet, which represents the mask. Underneath the helmet, you can see Mr. Wilson's pock marked scarred face. Overall, I love the concept and it was very well executed!
The 12" line from Sideshow Collectibles is wildly successful but sometimes customizers out do the professionals and Mattman1968's Custom Star Wars 12" Furry Chewbacca is one of those figures that is nicely executed and very well done! What a great idea to add fur to the Chewbacca figure and it makes him look so realistic. What is a Wookie without fur anyway? The way that the fur is applied makes the figure look like a costume and if you did not know the scale of the figure, it is easy to fooled by this figure. In the picture below, you can also see that Chewbacca is nicely scaled to fit with the Sideshow line.
One of the aspects that I really like about Jin Saotome's customs is the unique shading technique that brings out all of the fine detail in his customs. This Custom Marvel Legends Dr. Doom figure is a fantastic example of this effect as you can see all of the lines, rivets, and muscles on the figure. The base color on the Dr. Doom figure is silver and my hat goes off to Jin for his ability to make this figure look like metal with the paint app and the overall look and feel. Not only is Jin one of the greatest customizers out there, he also writes some pretty interesting descriptions for his figures:
"When you have a country to run, superheroes to harass, and diabolical plans to create, it usually spells Doom. That's right, this week I've brought you the Latverian ruler himself in his classic look. Victor has been hand-painted with deep shading, bright highlights, metallic weathering, realistic clothing effects, and amazingly intricate detail which will really make him stand out in your Marvel Legends collection. He has a real metal chain and cape clasps, removable energy arcs, and a brand new hooded head that's ball jointed separate from his cape. This Doom is ready to take on the Fantastic Four and anyone who stands in his way of world domination. So, know a Marvel fan that would love a unique figure for their collection? Have a nation that needs a tyrant? Then, don't pass this auction up!"
I agree! Don't pass Jin Saotome's Custom Marvel Legends Dr. Doom figure up!
Looks like Wilestbilame's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure flew too close to the sun and with a temperature of 15.7 million kelvin that type of heat is sure to do some damage to your system! The first time I saw this type of 3D effect on a repainted and custom Starscream was on Frenzy Rumble's version that he made a little over one year ago. The melted effect that is applied to the wings gives Sunstorm his personality and helps to achieve a really cool 3D effect that not many customizers are doing. He also changed up the shape of the wing, which I will let him tell you about:
"Sunstorm was also heavily modified his wings into a new batwing like shape to give him a more menacing look and his side fins were permanently attached to his now modified hips for a better look that sets him apart from his seeker brethrenhe was detailed by hand to bring out the detail on panel lines in his body and circuitry details and was also applied with a subtle flame camo on his body that might not be so apparent in the pictures, then again it wouldn't be camo if it wasn't subtle! lol."
For more photos and to place a bid on this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Starscream figure, you know where to go!
When I first saw Andy Hibbs' Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica, I thought I was looking at the real deal from the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie. This is a very different Transformers custom than people may be used to as the figure does not change into robot mode but the extreme amount of detail, raw material, blood, sweat, and time that was put into this 1:16 scale makes up for it. This is the best replica of the Tanker Truck I have seen to date. Spending 7 weeks working on this custom, the detail that was put into every inch of this replica really shines through when you when you look closely at the vehicle:
Andy also made a very cool video showing off his amazing Custom Transformers 1:16 Scale Megatron Tanker Truck replica so go head over to eBay and check it out!
Combining efforts from two other customers, Wilestbilame makes his childhood dream of creating a Dinobot a reality with his Custom Transformers G1 Cartoon Style Masterpiece Swoop figure. Using a custom cast kit from Sculpbot, hands designed by Fakebuster, and the ingenuity of Wilestbilame, this Custom Swoop achieved the look and feel that was inspired the G1 cartoon! The shading of the figure sealed the deal for me! Every now and then, customizers provide us with their inspiration for creating these great pieces so let's see what he has to say:
"Ever since I was a kid I always loved the dinobots, and apart from Grimlock I always had admiration for Swoop the truly awesome pterodactyl Transformer that really knew how to be as savage as his Dinobot leader. Sadly we never got a proper update to this legendary bot nor classics or MP, but thanks to master sculptor and customizer Sculptbot, Swoop has now become an awesome reality!! Utilizing a custom casted kit by Sculptbot I combined it to upgrade another transformer into a full fledged Masterpiece swoop and I figured I would bring him into the masterpiece line with a closer to the cartoon appearance than previous toys done a in the past. He features super articulated individual finger seeker hands(special thanks to Fakebusker for designing them), ball joint head, articulated dino head and jaw, wings fold via swivel for easy transition from dino mode to bot mode and for flapping his wings I guess LOL, embossed autobot symbol on dino head. I painted the sword to look as if it were lit up all the time and heating up, I wanted to bring back the glory days of generation 1 by recreating this masterpiece with his Cartoon colors, one of the things. I always loved about the cartoon and comic was that"shine effect" they were drawn with on their windshields and shading on their bodies, sort of as if the metal and glass had it's own shine in cartoon style, so I replicated that effect through a modern method known as "cell shading" and panel lining across his body to bring out a true cartoon style adding a more dynamic color scheme far beyond the simple repaint. Swoop was carefully sanded and cleaned prior to painting, after which he was airbrushed with super high quality automotive grade lacquers and slightly detailed with high quality acrylics, and sealed with UV resistant matte finish to preserve his colors for years to come!"
Straight from the Brother's episode of Star Wars the Clone Wars comes Thinkinink1972's Custom Cyborg Darth Maul figure. I was excited about the reintroduction of Darth Maul into the Star Wars Clone Wars universe but I was not sure what to think after I saw the episode. I actually felt sorry Maul as he looked so pathetic and nothing like his former self as seen in Star Wars Episode 1, The Phantom Menace. That feeling of sorry carries over to this figure as Thinkinink1972 has done a tremendous job capturing the cartoon version of the Cyborg Darth Maul and his spider'like self. The limbs were fabricated from wire and clay and allow for a range of articulation. Recreating the mechanical spider legs and abdomen demonstrates Thinkinink197's creativity as well as skill as he has mastered fusing metal and plastic together to create a great work of art and a Star Wars figure you will definitely not be seeing in the stores! I really like the way the metal weaves around the legs and throughout the torso, creating the effect of many intricate parts making up the walking mechanisms that Maul scrounged from the galactic dump. There are many more photos over at Thinkinink1972's eBay listing so go check out his amazing Custom Cyborg Darth Maul figure.
Legos may be small but people can make some mighty customs with them and Menges76 has found a way to improve upon the design of one of the galaxies most menacing ships with his Custom Lego Star Wars Slave 1 vehicle. Here is how he did it:
"Designed from set 6209. The base has been lengthened and widened. The top is removable in two sections to access a computer and gauge monitoring station and weapons station. An ion cannon and rocket rack deploy from doors that open on the sides of the hull. The floor for the upper deck is removable and reveals a large cargo area and prisoner hold. Boba Fett can sit in the pilot's seat with his jet pack on. The cockpit is highly detailed with multiple computer screens and gauges. The wings turn independently and turn when ship is in its flying position."

The Masters of the Universe line ranks up there with one of my favorites and week after week, Hunter Knight Customs continues to deliver the highest quality customs and his Custom MOTU Classics Captain Randor is one of those figures! If you are familiar with the Masters of the Universe cartoon and the toys from the 80's, you may remember a King Randor that came out in 1987. Before Randor was King, he was a Captain and the 2002 Masters of the Universe revival portrayed the back story on how Prince Adam becomes He Man. If the first episodes dubbed "The Begining," Captain Randor faces his arch enemy Keldor (who later becomes Skeletor) where he throws acid at Randor that is blocked by his shield. The figure portrays Captain Randor as he did in the 2002 cartoon and HKC has not only captured the essence of the figure but he also sytled it in the MOTU Classics form, which is what Mattel is putting out as their adult collector line. HKC has a cool video to a company his figure so head over to eBay and check out HKC's latest Custom MOTU Classics Captain Randor figure.
Call them the dynamic duo! From the fascinating, colorful and throbbing city of Bangkok, Thailand to the roaring shores and sun bleached state of California, TB Productions and Xaviercal have teamed up once again to bring you this Supreme Class Custom Transformers Tripticon figure. Working on the custom detailing, Xaviercal added new, detailed arms, extended the legs, added much needed articulation. Adding the Accented with purple, turquoise, gold, silver, and yellow, and his signature shading, TB productions had a great canvas to work with and the finished product looks fantastic. I have said this before but when customizers team up, they can make some really great figures come to life and this Supreme Class Custom Transformers Tripticon figure is another example of putting two great minds together to produce something fans will go nuts over!
Hot off the heals of his Custom Shattered Glass Devastator comes Xaviercal's TFC Hercules Custom Transformers Devastator in a Generation One color scheme. Using the 3rd Party Transformer as the base for the figure, the classic nature of the G1 yellow-green paint app really shines through. One welcome addition to the color palette is the use of purple on various parts of the individual figures. For example, on Mixmaster's cement mixer and Bonecrusher's bulldozer front end. The addition of the color purple help to break of the overbearing green that the typical Devastator radiates. In addition to the awesome paint app, Xaviercal has also created a G1 inspired gun for his Custom Transformers Devastator so head over to eBay to take a peak at this homage one of the greatest combiners!
There is not enough Star Wars to go around for my lifetime or any fan's lifetime I am sure of that! The movies are one thing but the story lines of the video games, books, and the television shows really bring the Star Wars universe to life. Customizers, like Katosuki, bring the on screen video game persona's to life and his latest Star Wars Old Republic Custom Marvel Legends Female Bounty Hunter is a testament to that. This figure is not in your typical 3 3/4" scale but a 6" figure more in keeping with the Marvel Legends scale figures. I provided a comparison shot in the photo above and as you can see, the figure that was created did a great job at capturing the overall look and feel of the figure while taking some liberties with the design - as customizers should! The Bounty Hunter definitely looks ready for action so if you want to check out more photos, head over to Katosuki's Star Wars Old Republic Custom Marvel Legends Female Bounty Hunter as he has some great shots of the figure!
Call it the trifecta of the post Megatron Transformers universe where Unicron's spawn's rose up from the twisted metal from the heated battle of Cybertron. FrogDNA has created custom cartoon G1 versions of Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge, which is a first in his customizing career. One of FrogDNA's strengths is getting that cartoon look and feel just right. The way that he paints the figures and shades them bring out every detail. Due to the fact that Galvatron was kitbashed and, in his own words, "some kind of Frankenstein," the alternate mode was sacrificed to make the robot mode as close to the cartoon as possible. I am cool with that given that the finished product looks amazing.
If you have kids and they have a Wii, chances are you have heard of the Skylanders craze that is sweeping the video game universe. Skylanders are an ingenious creation by Activision where the game play is enhanced by the use of collectible figures. These figures are then placed on a base (called the Portal of Power) and any upgrades that are obtained in the game are stored on a wafer thin chip that is built inside the figure. This way, kids (and adults...I know there are some of you out there) can take the figures to their friends house and the upgrades and stats travel with them.
Building on the aspect of the game where the characters come to life is Evilos with his Prism Break Custom Skylanders figure. Adding some moss and LED's into the two crystals and the base of the figure, the figure is reborn with a fantastic display of blue light that emanates from the hands and base. Due to the nature of the custom and the process in which it was made, the figure's wafer does not story any information as it was destroyed during the customization process but the cool factor of the LED's make up for that. There is also a cool video that accompanies the listing so head over to eBay to view Evilos' Prism Break Custom Skylanders figure.
If you want to purchase Skylander figures, you can do so below!
In the G1 Transformers cartoon, it appears that Omega Supreme is the largest Transformer. Decepti-Punk has made this a reality with his Custom Transformers Supreme Class Omega Supreme figure. Standing a towering 20" tall, this figure is one behemoth of a custom. Not only one, but two Energon Omega Supreme's and one G1 Omega were used to make this fully transformable figure, which is a feet in an of itself. Usually, when you build figures this tall, some customizers sacrifice the transformability of the figure, usually called an Action Masters, but Decepti-Punk used his skill to create a massive battle station. Keeping with Omega's G1 color scheme, this figure is one of the best Omega Supreme figure's I have seen to date.
With the release of the Transformers Prime figures, customizers now have a new canvas and outlet for their creativity. This week, Zildjian focuses his efforts on creating the best Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure he could! First, the paint style and application are stunning. The carbon scroing look that he gave the figure is lightyears beyond what the toy company's can mass produce. Here is a close up look at the brush strokes that were used to create this cool effect. If you look at the before shot of the figure (on the right), you will see a very drab and boring color scheme. Contrast that with Zildjian's Custom Transformers Prime Megatron figure (on the left) and you can see the world of difference. If the paint app wasn't enough to make you buy this one, he also wired the figure with purple and red LED's to give the give that extra something special.
What do you get when you cross a Marvel Legends Hulking with a House of M Hulk figure? You get a killer Custom Marvel Legends Strong Guy figure, who first appeared in the New Mutants comic way back in 1985. It takes a keen eye and a vision to take two totally disproportionate characters and fuse them together and, ultimately, in the end, come out with a much better figure that you began with. This figure works on so many levels. Knowing that Glennweb69 would need two figures of different proportions, he was able to find two Hulk figures and seamlessly combine them together to form Strong Guy to form the overly muscular upper body. Since the legs on the Hulking figure are so small, this effect is amplified when you look at the figure as whole. Finishing the figure off with a great paint app that incorporates an updated look and feel to the figure brings up to par with some of the great customs of 2012.
The Shattered Glass concept is the mirrored universe where the bad guys are good, the good guys are bad, and everyone has different paint schemes. Xaviercal, using the TFC Toys Hercules set, has added another character to this bizarro world with his Custom Shattered Glass Devestator combiner. The original G1 Devastator had a lovely lime green color scheme. Contrast this with Xaviercal's red and white paint app with red Decepticon symbols and you have a recipe for some Shattered Glass greatness. The red and white scheme is traditionally an Autobot flavor, which makes this custom work so well. So well, in fact, that it is based off of the Shattered Glass comic version. To view more photos, head over to eBay and check out Xaviercal's Custom Shattered Glass Devestator combiner.
M.A.S.K., Mobile Armored Strike Kommand, is by far one of the great concepts and to lines from the 80's. I remember the cartoon like it was yesterday and I still have the toys. The RHINO was one of the best of the line and Turboassel81 has created this awesome add on Custom Defense Unit for Bruce Sato and Alex Sector's rig!
The aspect of M.A.S.K that appealed to me the most was the vehicles and playsets for the toy line were so unassuming and they looked very normal, which makes this custom fit in the line so well. Looking like a transport trailer and an every day hitch, the Defense Unit is a great way to mask (no pun intended) the potential that this trailer has inside. A very simple, yet, effective concept lies beneath the metal inside and when sprung into action, two large missiles open up and two large guns open up from the sides to keep Miles Mayhem's group of thugs at bay. Even in Defense Unit mode, the custom still keeps in style with the M.A.S.K. line and even fits the two inch figures very well. To see more photos of this cool Custom Defense Unit for the Rhino (or the Bulldog), head over to eBay!
