Zildjian has possibly created the coolest Transformers/GI Joe Crossover figure with his almost two feet tall Custom Transformers GI Joe Megatron figure/vehicle. Using the concept art of Don Figueroa as a blueprint for this amazing piece, Zildjian has outdone himself as this Megatron was completely scratch built from the ground up. Using joints from a Cybertron Metroplex, and Energon Omega Supreme, as well as potions from Energon Omega Supreme, he was able to craft a figure that not only looks awesome but can function as a vehicle for Destro and his troops.
The remaining 80% of this figure was custom built using styrene plastic, industrial grade plastic fusion adhesives, custom built joints, and numerous screws. With a figure like this, it is not meant to be read but seen so here is a video of all of the special features of Zildjian's Custom Transformers GI Joe Megatron:embedded by Embedded Video
D&D Customs has set out to create every GI Joe figure in Marvel Legends scale from years 1982 to 1988, which are really the best years for the Joe and Cobra lines. I am focusing on this Custom Marvel Legends Dusty figure today but D&D has made a countless number of other figures. Dusty was one of my favorite figures to play with as a kid and D&D has done a superb job, along with all of his other customs, in recreating that 3 3/4" classic GI Joe feel in Marvel Legends scale.
You can really see the fine detailing in a close up shot. From the classic desert camouflage to the stitching in his uniform, it looks like no detail was left untouched. The helmet and weapons tie the figure together and make D&D's Custom Marvel Legends Dusty figure very sought after if you are looking to own larger scale classic GI Joe figures. D&D is one of the best at creating this line of figures so if you don't want to lose out on this, head over to eBay and buy it now!
Hungrr, Sinnertwin, Blot, Cutthroat, and Rippersnapper combine to form GetRightRobot's amazing Custom Transformers G1 Abominus combiner. Standing at 16" tall, this behemoth puts his G1 predecessor to shame. Paying a great homage to the G1 color scheme, GetRightRobot used 19 color sprays and painstaking took each figure apart (including the hinge pins) to apply the paint apps. The overall look and feel of the figure is a great translation to the G1 classic figure and the scale looks awesome compared to the figures seen in the photo below:
If you are fan of the Killzone video game, you will love jps9779's Custom Kill Squad GI Joe 25th Anniversary figures. First of all, how could you pass up a group of customs called the Kill Squad? I sure can't and jps9779 could not pass up making them! My favorite figure in this set is the Heavy Gunner as it reminds me of the Helghast figure with the way the helmet was constructed and painted. The gas mask is not only pretty cool looking but incorporates elements of both modern and vintage masks from World Wars 1 and 2. I like the double canister filter look, which pays a nice homage to the origins of the gas mask. Besides, you can't have too much protection on the battlefield!
Of course, no squad is complete without an Propaganda minister but you will have to check him out, and the Squad Leader, while you are clicking over to view jps9779's Custom Kill Squad GI Joe 25th Anniversary figures.
MangaMike has taken on a classic hot rod and turned it into an instant classic with this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Big Daddy figure. Period pieces are some of my favorite customs look at. The original Big Daddy concept was a muscle car but MangaMike's concept does the figure better justice as the paint style fits more with the period of the 50's. The details on this figure are what makes it stand out among the rest. The flames, the silver bumper, the air intake above the hood, and even the black dice hanging from the rear view mirror complete the look and feel of a classic car. You can check out the scale of the figure below as MangaMike shot this photo with an Alternators Hound to give you a picture of the scale of the figure:
You can picture this hot rod tearing down the streets in the 50's and skidding into a classic diner where a lady delivers your food via roller skates. Not only has MangaMike created a great figure that will fit nicely with your Masterpiece Transformers collection, but he also depicted one of the true classic cars in American History very well. To see more photos of this Custom Transformers Masterpiece Big Daddy figure, head over to eBay!
Modeled after Jim Lee's art style, Loose Collector has created a magnificent Custom Marvel Legends Gambit figure. The facial features and hair really give this figure a human look. As a mutant, Gambit possesses the ability to manipulate kinetic energy, as well as a hypnotic charm. He is also skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff, which Loose Collector proudly displays. The trench coat is also well done as the plastic looks flowing and lifelike. If you compare this to the Toybiz version of Gambit, Loose Collector's figure wins hands down:
Building upon Megatron's G1 Military Commander, Sculpt-Bot brings us his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Shockwave figure. This figure was built up from a "G1 junker" that Sculpt-Bot had lying around and he also had to scratch build the gun barrel, which he added a very cool feature. Since Shockwave is known as a computer with legs and is ruled by logic and reason, in Sculpt-Bot's words, "this gave me the opportunity to make it a little more useful in his bot mode, so I put a built in, flip out, science station in it," which allows him to analyze his newest experiments! You can check out the gun barrel and science station below:
Along with paying a very nice homage to the overall look of the figure, Sculpt-Bot managed to nail the G1 purple color that made Shockwave so special! To check out more photos of his Custom Transformers G1 Masterpiece Shockwave figure, head over to eBay!
The Crimson Guards are the elite and best of the best in the Cobra Army and Mythic Customs has given these soldiers an upgrade with this Custom Battle Armored Crimson Guard squad. The combination of Star Wars Kamas works well on these figures and gives them a more refined look. One thing that the CG's lacked was proper body armor so it looks like Destro and the Crimson Twins have struck a deal! The armor on the figures has great coverage, especially in the neck area, where the helmet meets the rest of the uniform. The tiny rivets on the shoulder armor add realism to the uniform as well as the squad leader's silver chest plate gives the appearance of rank and order in the Cobra Army, another aspect that was lacking in the toy line and in the series.
It is a great achievement when customs bring out emotions and feelings and Hotwire Customs has achieved the feeling of combat and conflict with his latest customs. When I think of war, I think of grit, grime, dirt, explosions, carbon, and soot and Hotwire Customs brings these feelings to fruition with his Custom War for Cybertron Megatron and Soundwave figures. If you can imagine a time where machines are waging war against each other, oil and sludge would be spewing everywhere with each blast or each punch that was thrown and these figures bear the marks of veterans of a Cybertronian battle. The weathering technique that was applied to these figures is some of the best I have seen, which makes them look like they are fresh from the video game. The scoring and battle effects on the figures makes each part stand out and also makes the plastic appear like metal, which is a very cool aspect to achieve. Hotwire tells me that he has War for Cybertron Autobots on the way too and if they are as great as these figures, I can't wait to see what he has in store!
Prahvus is a notable warlord on the planet Eternia following the rise of the Mystic Wall. He was known to had terrorised regions of the world in order to bring them under his dominion and Argenta-2008 has brought this character to life with his Custom MOTU Classics 200x Prahvus figure. This figure will fit right into your MOTU Classics or 200x line although the figure would blend better with the Classics line in my opinion. The sculpting of this figure captures the MOTU 200x version very well and this is a figure probably not slated for production in the near future.
My favorite part about this custom is the armor and the head sculpt. We need more MOTU Customs in this world as Mattel's release schedule is too slow for me. Argenta-2008 has other MOTU Classics customs up for sale this week so while you are checking out his Custom MOTU Classics 200x Prahvus figure, check out his others too!
Placing 3rd in the TFcon 2010 3D art contest, Nemesis Predaking brings us this awesome Custom Transformers Animated Power Up Sari figure. It takes a keen eye to see what would look great as a custom and how you will pull off your idea. Sari's jet backpack is very cool and the way that the fire was sculpted makes it look like it is taking off. Using a Figma Drossel, Nemesis Predaking created a one of a kind Sari figure that you will never find in stores. Here is a side by side comparison of how he took the Figma figure and turned it into a cool Transformers Animated Custom:
The aspect of combiners that I love learning about is what pieces and parts make up each custom and TFMaker has used some really great figures to make his Custom G1 Transformers Superion. Standing a towering 17" tall (that is 43.18 cm to exact), this Superion figure has parts from Starscream (head), Metroplex (arms), and Unicron (hands). The technique that TFMaker used to paint this figure is awesome and the coloring retains that cartoon G1 look and feel to the figure. The shading and toning gives the figure depth and character while making sum of each of the parts stand out from each other. You can get a good feel for the shading in the close up photo below.
TFMaker has an abundance of well lit, well shot photos over on his eBay page so check out his Custom G1 Transformers Superion and place a bid while you are there!
DarkCaveCustoms takes one of the Jumpstarters to a whole new level with his Custom Transformers Twin Twist figure. Although I bought this figure as a kid in the 80's, I was never happy with it but DarkCave has made this figure look so powerful and menacing that I wish he was one of the designers of this figure back then. Taking full advantage of the Hulk Transformers Crossover figure, he recreates this classic Jumpstarter figure in a bold new way. I love the massive drills on the figure and the overall color scheme. The figure looks just as great in robot mode:
Shredder is the primary bad guy in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe and jps997 has created this villain from the Secret of the Ooze movie with his Custom Marvel Legends TMNT Super Shredder figure. The back story on this figure from the movie is that after Shredder exposed himself to a mutagen vial, he is transformed into a massive "Super Shredder," an almost mindless giant-mutant being with immense superhuman strength.
I love the armor detail on this figure! The helmet is super detailed and intricate and I was pleasantly surprised to see the design on the back of the helmet. The helmet is also very proportional and is a great fit for the figure. The plastic looks like metal and the way that the body was painted gives the figure depth. Overall, I am very impressed with the attention to detail that jps9779 took with this figure as he did an excellent job translating the movie into art! To view more photos of this Custom Marvel Legends TMNT Super Shredder figure, head over to eBay!
By now you have probably figured out that I dig the Steampunk line of customs and Jin Saotome is continuing to feed my obsession with his Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk War Machine figure. You can imagine this War Machine figure, as Jin states, "ratcheting and clanking through the battlefield" when you look at the intricate clockwork detail in this custom. If I ever imagined what a Steampunk War Machine figure would look like, this would be it! I love the arching electricity coming across the power lines and the riveting of the metal suit, which creates the illusion of the figure being in the time period where electricity was new and the industrial revolution was on its way!
There is so much old school detail in this figure that if you do not look closely you will miss it. For example, you can see the gears poking out from under the chest armor and the riveting work inside the figures shoulder area. It would be cool if this gears turned and the figure electrically arched but I will take this figure any day! To see more photos of this one of a kind Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk War Machine figure, head over to eBay!
Using the Revenge of the Fallen Sideswipe figure as the inspiration for this Custom Transformers Red Alert figure, Unavermin pays homage to the G1 Autobot Lamborghini Fire Chief. Painted in the classic red and white color scheme, the finish on the figure is smooth and even. The F.D. decals are in the right places and the spirit of the classic paint app is captured very nicely, right down to the stripe going up and down the hood of the car. Topping the car off is an updated, more streamlined version of the siren lights. One great mod to this custom features internal hinge that allows his bulky "backpack" that normally sticks straight out back, to concentrate inwards to make him look more compact and stable in robot mode. To view photos of this mod, head over to eBay and check out Unavermin's Custom Transformers Red Alert figure.
What do you get when you cross a WFC Soundwave, G1 Slag, Beast Machines Triceradon, Energon Landmine, Star Wars Crossover Luke Skywalker, and Lego Knights Kingdom knight? That's right! You get Joeyz90's Custom Transformers Dinobot Slag. What is very hard to believe is that the the base for this figure was a WFC Soundwave but taking a closer look at the certain areas of the custom, I can see why Joeyz90 used it as it gives Slag that bulkiness of Dinobot.
There are several features of the this Slag that are a significant improvement to the original G1 figure. For example, the the head sits higher on the figure and the body is longer, giving it a sleeker look. The face of the figure and the placement of the horns and frill (the part of the head that flares up above the horns) makes it look more realistic. Again, I had to do a double take looking at the laundry list of figures used in this custom but I must say that they all came together magnificently! To see more photos and to place a bid on Joeyz90's Custom Transformers Dinobot Slag, head over to eBay!
PS: A special thanks to James B for emailing me a link to the this custom!
Based on the Clone Wars animated series comes DefiantYogi's Custom Star Wars Clone Wars Clone Commander Jet figure. I love the Clone Wars series as it is a great way to expand the Star Wars universe without the overhead of making a live action movie. Dubbed "CC-1993, nicknamed "Jet," was a clone of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. Grown and raised on the planet Kamino, Jet served in the Grand Army of the Republic as a clone trooper commander during the Clone Wars. He participated in the Second Battle of Geonosis, serving under the command of Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi."
It was very creative how DefiantYogi created the helmet and head for Jet: "Custom cut earphones attached to the right and left sides of helmet. Custom cut decorative hexagon attached to middle of helmet, just above visor. Helmet fin shaved off to make dome smooth. Custom cast resin Captain Rex Head painted bald and with battle scars on both sides of face." To see more photos of this great figure and to place a bid so you can add him to your collection, head over to eBay and check out this awesome Custom Star Wars Clone Wars Clone Commander Jet figure.
In Star Wars minifig style, venom113jp has created this cool Clone Wars character with his Lego Star Wars Pre Vizsla Clone Wars Custom minifig. Modeling the figure after the Clone Wars animated series, this figure will make a great addition to your Lego Minifig collection. Pre Vizsla was a Mandalorian from the planet Mandalore, who lived during the Clone Wars. By around 22 BBY, Vizsla had become the leader of the Death Watch splinter group in opposition to the pacifist Duchess Satine Kryze and her peaceful New Mandalorian organization's rule over Mandalore, a government that Vizsla believed dishonored the Mandalorians' generations-old warrior traditions.
You can really feel the pain and emotion in Raynir's Custom Marvel Legends Goliath figure. The face on this figure was sculpted very well, especially the nose and cheek bone area. Typically the noses on figures look more like a cartoon and the facial structure of this figure look more human. The eyes are also a great feature and Raynir thought to put bags under his eyes, which is how the face responds to squinting or anger. Last but not least, the veins protruding from the neck add to the emotion and feeling of this large scale figure. To see more photos, head over to eBay and check out Raynir's Custom Marvel Legends Goliath figure.
Soundwave is the Decepticon's Communication officer and is best known for his distinctive, monotone, computerized voice. FrogDNA has given this Generations figure a G1 makeover with his Custom War for Cybertron Soundwave figure. Using matte enamels to get that cartoon look, FrogDNA has really captured the feeling of that square micro cassette recorder we all loved as kids. It is amazing how the paint and technique applied to a figure can turn a dull looking Hasbro figure into this:
You will also notice one of Soundwave's reconnaissance cassettes in the photo above and FrogDNA has scratch built Laserbeak to complete this awesome custom. To view more photos of this Custom War for Cybertron Soundwave figure, head over to eBay!
Sunstorm has had many roles and personalities through the Transformers generations but one thing has always remained the same, he was always a Decepticon jet who is yellow or orange in color and DarkCaveCustoms has given him the royal leader class treatment with his Custom Transformers Sunstorm figure. Always wanted to create his own version of Sunstorm, Darkcave has come out swinging and hit a home run with this one. This figure looks amazing with the custom Cybertronian markings and the array of armaments that magnetically attach to the figure. Here are some more highlights:
- Custom sculpted head
- Buzzsaw saw and Rail gun
- The Rail gun opens and extends!
- The Buzzsaw actually spins!
- Eyes light up, chest lights up
To check out more amazing photos of DarkCave's Custom Transformers Sunstorm figure, head over to eBay!
Jin Saotome is continuing his Steampunk line with this amazing Captain America Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk figure. There are subtle details in this figure that bring out that old world style. For example, the letter A on Captain Americas forehead is done with a style reminiscent of the 1900's and the rivets on the front of the figure remind me of an old style military uniform. Saving the best piece for last is the magnetic clockwork shield, which I believe is the central feature of this custom. The detail in the gears and mechanisms of this shield are superbly executed and there are blades that can attach in any way you please.
I have now come to realize that wasting countless hours and quarters playing Mortal Kombat at the local bowling alley was well worth it when I see figures like Anthony's Custom Marvel Legends Mortal Kombat Scorpion figure. The entire costume design of the figure is outstanding. Scorpion has a skull as a belt but Anthony has taken it to the next level and has embellished the belt in a way that it incorporates the skull design all the way around, which is a very subtle but effective touch to the figure. The figure gets some more added touches, with the addition of the silver spear and a black spear that attach to the figures left hand.
Today marks the passing of Major Dick Winters*, who was one of the few remaining World War 2 leaders and soldiers that liberated France on D-Day. In honor of Major Winter's passing, I am proud to present Zildjian's Custom World War 2 Highbrow P-38 Lightning figure. The painting of the lovely lady on the side of the plane really captures the period that was World War 2, where planes were given nick names and used as canvases to express people's thoughts and feelings. Given the that the P-38 did not have huge revolving gun barrels mounted to their wings, I like that Zildjian has removed them to to keep with the era but still uses them in Robot mode.
The goggles and flight helmet complete the look and feel of the era. To view more photos of Zildjian's Custom World War 2 Highbrow P-38 Lightning figure, head over to eBay. For those who would like to know more about the late Major Winters, please read on below:
Looking at the photo above, you probably would not guess that Collectabletoyz305's Custom Marvel Legends Phalanx figure stands a massive 12" tall (I guess you could of gathered that from the title of this article so work with me here). This figure, for being all black, is highly detailed and the sculpting brings out the features of the this figure very well. Sometimes when figures are painted one solid color, you lose some of the detail but not this figure. The head was completely sculpted from scratch and there are no Photoshop effects for this custom as Collectabletoyz305 added LEDs in the head and a small switch in the back so you can easily operate them.
According to the Marvel Wiki, "The Phalanx are an evil alien race bent on world conquering. They once tried to invade Earth but were eventually opposed by the X-Men. They were later seen trying to destroy Shi'Ar airspace and badly damaged the civilization, but they were once again opposed, this time by a space-travelling X-Men team. Afterward, the Phalanx weren't heard of for quite some time, until after the Annihilation wave struck the entire galaxy. The Phalanx tried to begin where Annihilus left off, and are soaring through space once again, opposing several heroes in their path, and chose Avengers villain Ultron as their leader.
As Collectabletoyz305 writes: "He is an extraterrestrial, sentient form of "techno-organic" life, resembling machinery in various ways. Because of their ability to absorb energy and mass from living beings, a process which also converts the victims into techno-organic material, the Technarchy have a special safeguard in encoded in the techno-organic virus that they can transmit. If too much techno-organic material remains alive or otherwise becomes corrupted, it forms a collective intelligence and physical mass known as the Phalanx. In fact, the Phalanx' primary objective is to culminate in the creation of a Babel Spire that can send a signal to the Technarchy homeworld, telling the Technarchy that the techno-organic virus has unsafely overrun the planet and must be destroyed before it risks contaminating other sources of "food."
Collectabletoyz305's Custom Marvel Legends Phalanx figure is up for sale this week so head over to eBay and check out the photos or place a bid!
At first glance, you would not guess that Unicron9's Custom G1 Transformers Omega Supreme is actually an Autobot combiner but he figured out a way to retain that the classic Gen 1 style with the added bonus of giving Omega the ability to separate into five individual figures. This is a concept I have never seen before (but that does not mean it has not been done before) and the figure is executed perfectly to give Omega the size and look and feel we remember as kids. Let's read more about this one of kind Omega from Unicron9 himself:
"Rather than a tank, Omega Supreme's main body becomes a heavy armored transport defender truck, still with a big red gun up top. Besides becoming an armored transport truck, there is another big difference in this new Omega. The main body/truck becomes a robot on its on, called simply, Omega. The side parts to the space shuttle clip firmly onto Omega's legs to give him bulky shins and feet instead of the terrible legs the Energon Optimus had. The Omega Supreme team set also comes with an emergency repair truck with extending ladder, a transport helicopter, and a multi-laser drill tank for clearing paths with ease for the Omega convoy. Merge the team together to make the Autobot's last line of defense, Omega Supreme! Omega Supreme's spark power core lights up bright red with the press of a button, with cannon firing sounds. A switch in the back changes Omega Supreme's sound effects to fit the 4 different vehicles. The front of the shuttle opens into an articulated claw.Laser drill spins when tank is rolled, or use the wheel underneath as a dial to spin laser drill in robot mode. Omega Supreme's mask was designed to look like a flying recon drone when not used as the head in combined mode."
If you head over to check out Unicron9's Custom G1 Transformers Omega Supreme, you can see a photo of the Power Chamber all lit up!
Destro has always been the fashionable one in the Cobra Legion and Mindbender Customs has created a Crimson Pimp Daddy Destro figure to add to his wardrobe. As one of Destro's other duties is to chair the Crimson Guard meetings, he needed a suit for the special role. You can imagine Destro has a suit for every occasion and he realized that the silver head just wasn't doing it for him anymore. All in all, it is a cool concept and I like the different color head for Destro.
Dubbed the ferocious fusion of all five of the Predacons: Divebomb, Headstrong, Rampage, Tantrum, and team leader Razorclaw, L.K. has literally created a monster with his Custom Transformers G1 Predaking Combiner Masterpiece figures. Standing a towering 14.5 inches tall, L.K. has captured the essence of this massive Decepticon. This version of Predaking is less bulkier than the original and the the rage on the lion's face in the center of the figures chest gives Predaking a fierce and intimidating look. I also like the decision to mute some of the colors and make them less loud as in the original G1 figures. This is number 12 in L.K.'s Masterpiece series and you can check out more photos of his Custom Transformers G1 Predaking Combiner Masterpiece combiner on eBay.
Updating one of the classic X-MEN characters, Horton's Heroes presents their Custom Marvel Legends Wolverine X-MEN figure. For being an action figure, this version of Wolverine possesses unique style and personality, which is a credit to Horton's Heroe's ability to paint and sculpt emotion and feeling into his work. In both the masked and unmasked versions of the head sculpts, the expression on Wolverine's face can be interpreted in a few ways. Add real metal claws and a killer paint app to the costume and you have one awesome Wolverine figure.
Order 66 was the Darth Sidious' final solution to the Jedi Order and BrickBuildersPro has created some killer Custom Lego Star Wars Clone Trooper Assassins, painted up as an homage to some very popular Dark Lords of the Sith. Here is the story behind these figure:
"Months after Order 66, force sensitive clones are recruited to hunt down any remaining Jedi. A prelude to the shadow trooper, these deadly assassins paint there armor in terrifying colors to honor their dark master's legacy: Maul, Nihilus and Vader"
I love the concept of Clones working for Sith's and painting themselves up in their honor. The three figures and base also looks like a mini diorama with the skulls and lightsabers of fallen Jedi at their feet. To place a bid on BrickBuildersPro's Custom Lego Star Wars Clone Trooper Assassins, head over to eBay!
Looking like something out of a 1930’s science fiction movie, 785Tanks has created this Custom Steampunk General Hawk GI Joe figure. The story behind this figure is a unique one:
“General Hawk is a Renowned Sky Captain and the Father Of Scarlett who he plans one day to hand over the role of Commander
His Body was injured in a Cobra Raid so Mech Body was created to help him to move about and assist in fighting Cobra
he is more gung ho now than ever before!”
The overall clunky nature of this figure lends itself to the period very well as you can imagine having to scrap together a mech suit from materials found in the 30’s. The suit looks like a combination of a deep sea diving apparatus with some parts from an old pipe organ strapped to the back. The head sculpt also gives the impression that General Hawk was a salty sea sailor with years of experience behind him, which you can see in his face. I love the overall concept of the figure as it brings together some aspects of Star Wars as General Hawk’s body had to be salvaged and reborn as well as staying true to the classic Steampunk styling.
Only available through mail order in 1986 for those lucky kids who collected enough robot points and scrimped and saved their allowance to pay for the shipping and handling, Frenzy.Rumble created an updated version of this G1 toy/cartoon fusion with his Custom Transformers Masterpiece Reflector. The color choice for these figures is spot as it looks like the figures were pulled right from the cartoon, in their classic silver, purple, and green color scheme. Not only has Frenzy.Rumble added massive amounts of articulation (compared to the original figures), he also added some cool effects, such as a light up lens and a hologram of the Decepticon symbol on the view finder. To show the scale of these figures, here are some pictures with their Decepticon buddies:
This is yet another example of Frenzy.Rumble's talent and dedication to creating the best custom figures! To check out more photos and to place a bid on Frenzy.Rumble's Custom Transformers Masterpiece Reflector, head over to eBay!
Combining my two favorite hobbies (reading and learning all I can about WWII and action figures), Sculpt-Bot has engineered this amazing looking Custom Steampunk Transformers Jetfire figure. Designed to look like a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the plane sports the classic Jetfire red and white paint apps with a slight modification of grunge to fit with the period.
The Steampunk genre is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The Sculpt-Bot achieved the period detailing is evidenced when looking at the rear of the figure. The way the riveting and the engines were painted fits right in with the Steampunk era styling. Giving Jetfire that fly boy look from the late 30's, the head was designed so that a pair of goggles could easily slide over his eyes:
To view more pictures and to place a bid on this Custom Steampunk Transformers Jetfire figure, head over to eBay! I bet you thought you would get away without a short history lesson but you thought wrong. Here is a quick history lesson, compliments of Wikipedia:
"The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a World War II American fighter aircraft built by Lockheed. Developed to a United States Army Air Corps requirement, the P-38 had distinctive twin booms and a single, central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. Named "fork-tailed devil" by the Luftwaffe and "two planes, one pilot" by the Japanese, the P-38 was used in a number of roles, including dive bombing, level bombing, ground-attack, photo reconnaissance missions, and extensively as a long-range escort fighter when equipped with drop tanks under its wings."
According to the Star Wars Old Republic Wiki, "Darth Malgus, born Veradun, is a male Sith Lord in service of the Sith Empire. During the Great Galactic War he earned the rank of "Darth" and led a Sith invasion on the Core World of Alderaan. His attempt failed and he was defeated by a female Jedi. Because of his injuries in this battle he was forced to wear a special mask. Later in the year 0 BTC he led the Sith attack on the Jedi temple. He was managed to enter the Jedi Temple and kill Ven Zallow."
JackOfTradze does and excellent job at creating figures that are lesser known or simply do not exist at all. His Darth Malgus Star Wars The Old Republic Custom figure is an great example of how he can take a figure from concept art and create a figure you would die to have in your collection.
I really love the overall look of the breathing apparatus attached to the face of the figure as it brings back the feeling of and the sounds of listening to Darth Vader for the first time. The costume design looks like it is right from the game. To own this awesome Malgus Star Wars The Old Republic Custom figure, head over to eBay!
One aspect of the Transformers cartoon that puzzled me was that the size of the figures would change dramatically when transforming from robot to alternate mode. With Megatron, for example, when he transformed into the gun, he changed from a two story tall robot down to a small handgun that could fit into Starscream's weaselly little hands. Also, Frenzy and Rumble also changed scale as well but, with the ability to animate the figures, the cartoonists could morph their bodies to add cooler weapons and Jbarb78 has made a version of two classic G1 Decepticons with his Frenzy and Rumble Transformers Custom figures, based on the PE-01 Shadow Warrior. I love the pile drivers that are attached to Rumble as it gives him that G1 look and feel that was right out of the cartoon.
Jin Saotome is a master of originality, which brings me to his latest Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Deadpool figure. Never seen before in any comic or video game, this version of Deadpool is a one of a kind! According to Wikipedia, Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc.
The Steampunk style is evident in not only the costume design of Deadpool but also the weapons, which are my favorite parts of this figure. The weapons look like they were scrapped together using parts from a factory. Here is more about this great figure from Jin himelf:
"Complete with new headsculpt, Wade has been hand-painted from head to boot with deep shading, superb color blending, weathered highlights, brilliant metallics, and intricate detail which will really make him stand out in your Marvel Legends collection. He features hand-sculpted detail using Aves Apoxie Sculpt, the most durable 2-part modeling compound out there. Deadpool comes with two Steampunk inspired weapons he can hold in either hand and the ray gun plug into his beltpack. His sword is sheathed on his back and can be drawn to defend himself against whatever mechanical creations Dr. Doom has unleashed."
Jin more has pictures posted on his auction page so head over and check out his Custom Marvel Legends Steampunk Deadpool figure.
Omega Supreme was a cool concept in the 80's but lacked sufficient playability and articulation. How many times could you watch him roll around in a circle on the track? The customizer with a unique name, HappyMealHater, also known as Aaron Aufdenberg, has figure solved this problem by creating this Custom Omega Supreme Transformers G1 Masterpiece figure that is chalk full of articulation and stands a towering 20" tall from foot to top of the tracks:
As you can see from the photo, the MP Grimlock is used as a comparison shot to show the massive scale of the figure. Some of the highlights include a G1 style look and feel as well as a cartoon head for true 80's realism. Although this figure does not transform, it looks amazing and would make an awesome addition to your MP collection so head over to eBay and check out HappyMealHater's Custom Omega Supreme Transformers G1 Masterpiece figure.
Looks like 2011 is off to a great start with your chance to own this amazing Transformers Custom Masterpiece G1 Skids made by the 2010 Botcon Custom contest winner! Standing at 8 inches tall, this figure would scale great with your current Transformers Masterpiece collection. It is great to see scratch built pieces as it shows the talent and skill of how a customizer can take a normal 1/24 scale vehicle and create a G1 style Transformer. Let's read more about how this figure was made by Duom himself:
"Skids was built from a 1/24 Tamiya Honda City Turbo, and Master Grade Gundam arms. Everything else is entirely scratchbuilt, from the legs to the feet, all the transformation mechanisms, and even the hands! As a robot, Skids is fully articulated, including: Ball joint and swivel neck, outward and forward swiveling shoulders, bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, ball jointed wrists, articulated fingers, outward and forward swiveling hips, thigh swivels, double jointed knees, and ball jointed feet! Included are Skids' two arm-mounted weapons. Each weapon can attach to either the top or outside of the arm. As a car, Skids features realistic Honda City features such as proper hood mounted rear view mirrors, authentic Honda logos and decals, opening doors, and detailed interior. Skids was painted with resilient Tamiya and Model Master paints, and has been clear coated for extra protection. The Autobot logo, side stripes, and rear license plate are custom made decals. Bare Metal Foil was also used to add chrome accents to Skids."
From the blue paint apps down to the G1 style decals, this Skids screams classic 80's! Here is what the figure looks like in car mode:
